I always remembered this one though I only remember the Spinners from that 'Give Blood' advert. Russ did a great Psychiatrist/drumming sketch with the late, great Roy Castle too. His Noel Cowerd was great, too.
many many thanks for this i can remember this from the 80s and have been trying to find it for years its really made my day hope you tube dont remove it what a laugh its made my day we really get up your nose ha ha ha classic fantastic
Omg me too! I didn't think sketches/parodies could have that effect on you xD the lines about "ancient! really past it and should be put out to grass" "and I've got the whitest smile of all! :D" just crack me up every time they are pure genius :) I keep coming back to rewatch this video ha
Like the other commentators, I heard this sketch once, and have been singing it for, what, 25 years now? 30? Just from one hearing. That's genius writing. Thank you, thank you for posting.
I was looking for the "original" little boxes and came across this one. Now this is funny. There are so many things I've missed and learned from people on UA-cam. Every day's a school day!
I remember going to the theatre in Oxford in the early 80's when I was a kid and seeing Russ Abbott's mad house it was so funny.think it might have been near Christmas.
Brought up on stuff like this and it's great, there's absolutely nothing like it now. Is it Jeffrey Holland, Dustin Gee, Russ Abbott and Les Dennis from left to right?
Funny because it is so accurate. Forgot how much fun madhouse was from when I was a kid. Russ, Les and all the others became naff and old fashioned when I got into my teens and Rik Mayall and co came along. All of these performers were great and I cannot think of many comedies which were on early teatime and were watched by families. Apart from Dustin being blacked up, this has stood the test of time. Glad Russ is back on TV, despite it being in a very dull comedy.
I loved Russ Abbott I really did when I grew up with my dad, I swear there was one where Russ was a worm of catapilla but couldn't okay this today because well let's admit it ones blacked up and everything now is getting banned for that now
It’s clearly quite an affectionate parody...the harmonies are dead-on for what’s meant as a throwaway gag. Russ is the only pro there but Dustin, Les and Jeffrey are not exactly amateur either 😂
thankyou for posting. i remember the show doing a very funny parody of the then popular game show 'name that tune' in which contestants would try to name a well known song or tune having heard only a opening few notes'...except in russ's show it was called 'name that gag' and contestants would try to name well known jokes after having heard only the opening words.....was very funny...as some contestants in the spoof named gags after just hearing one word...which was usually 'this'.....
Brilliant! Haven't heard this since the year it was on. For some ooooh soooo strange reason, it wasn't even included in the "Best of..." at the end of the series. Several far weaker/less funny songs were favoured instead.
+Luke Bellman Not folk, show band playing stuff like 'Live and Let Die' and 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' with Clive Jones on lead vocals (excellent singer).
Those were the days, when Saturday night tv was actually worth watching
What a great legacy Dustin Gee has left...over thirty years since his death he is still making us smile and laugh!
Brilliant, Dustin Gee was just naturally funny...a great comic and Jeffrey Hollands so underrated. Thanks for posting, very funny.
Loved Russ Abbot. Loved him on last of the summer wine. He was brilliant on it.
when tv was worth watching love this
My Dad had one of their records - I grew up listening to this guys.
Nice to be able to reflect on old comedy and how it still works.

Genius and so funny, and they really all have great singing voices, listen to the harmonizing, its as good as the origional. Litttle boxes
I met Russ at great yarmouth in 1980 when I was 8, he was very nice :-)

So funny, especially 'and you'll know us when you hear us cos we always sound the same' hilarious.

Brilliant, funny as hell.
This is good. God bless them. I got pretty close to Russ Abbot once
Pure comedy gold; just as funny now as it ever was!!
was from the 80s !
gremlinuk1968 I know.

Classic! There was me being a sad sod looking for the Spinners and I found this.

Pure genius .
Love this sketch! thanks for posting.
T.v at its best funny as hell 😂😂😂😂
Russ Abbott got Tony Davies's expressions down to a tee.
Oh my. Hilarious. Thank you!
Love it!
brilliant
Funny and pretty good musically too.
Fantastic
best thing I've seen in years!

Right!
Excellent. Not made like that anymore.

A shame that we lost Dustin Gee
Can't believe it's almost 34 years since we lost Dustin Gee.
Russ Abbott, Dustin Gee and Les Dennis who was the other one please?
Jeffrey Holland
The guy in the pink sweater looks like Sean from Corrie, blacked up.
He sounds a bit like him too.

I'm the tall one & do the talking cause I can't play anything.
Didn't Russ start out in a folk group himself? The Black Abbotts?
+Luke Bellman Not folk, show band playing stuff like 'Live and Let Die' and 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' with Clive Jones on lead vocals (excellent singer).
Wow, Jeffrey Holland was in a folk group
I'm guessing the Spinners didn't appreciate this ! Not bad, though
Anyone have the lyrics
yes but its good
