Benny Hill was a quiet, private man with a beautiful soul and incredible sense of humor. Like Rodney Dangerfield, he gave the world far more joy than it gave him. Thank you, Benny. May you be resting and laughing in peace.
I read his biography years ago, his cheques from the shows would still be sitting on his mantelpiece weeks later, his agent kept telling him to put them into the bank. He just loved his work and didn’t seemed too bothered about the money.

I used to do work for Alf (Benny Hill) at his Southampton home, and even off-screen he was just as dry witted and hilarious. He was such a brilliant comic genius.
Like a lot of people I loved Benny Hills work. I never saw it as intimidating towards women, the men were always pathetic examples of manliness and the women were the dominant characters. I say bring back postcard humour, we can all laugh at that!
