🔴 Ukrainie War - Russian KA-52 Emergency Landing During Combat Sortie At Hostomel Airport • POV

- Intense video footage reportedly released by the Russian MoD shows a Russian KA-52 attack helicopter conducting a low flying combat sortie at Hostomel Airport on February 24th.
The video shows the helicopter engaging assumed Ukrainian infantry positions while evading a number of incoming MANPADS before bein hit by one of them and having to conduct a emergency landing in a nearby field.
The helicopter was providing close air support for the Russian landing forces and coverred a MI-8 transport helicopter loaded with Russian paratroopers.
Another video released from that day that showed a group of Russian paratroopers assulting the airport could have been from the same mission.
The Russian MoD reported that the crew dismounted the helicopter after the emergency landing and got in to defensive positions to wait for evacuation by another Russian helicopter strike group on the way to the airport.
Another video filmed by Ukrainian forces later shows a downed crash landed KA-52 helicopter in a location with similiar vegetation.
In the video the damage the helicopter took can be visible pretty well but it is not clear if all the damage was from anti-air fire or if shelling of the area later added to the damage.
Also we have not been able to confirm if it is indeed the same helicopter like in the video.

Right the one at the end was one of the 1st vids released 20 or so days ago, just not the 1st half of the vid
Did you blur out parts of the video?
They are not the same, use eyes! Different weapons mounted and paint.
Of course you can ... its not even the same damn paintjob.... ..... sigh
@@MrMorvana if it is the same then it's clearly been damaged more and tampered with after the Russians landed it and the Ukrainians filmed it. Which makes sense.
This is seriously my first time ever seeing a video this clear of a pilots perspective in war..
true
Just play DCS ... and just like in DCS, flying low, shooting rockets and guns, you end up with a broken helicopter.
You're just a very nice target flying this low.
i do these types of runs in BF4 all the time
I've played plenty of simulators including Arma 3 high end graphics, but to see the eye view from a helicopter pilot doing low attacks like that yeah this is my first and tbh its eerie to see war go on outside peoples backyards while I'm home safe... Games ain't shit compared to this nightmare couldn't imagine this pilots adrenaline guessing from the view on the video he had a go pro on his helmet or head cause i mean damn look at the HUD... cristal clear
@@mro9466 Eh, it's either fly low and take small arms or fly high and take SAMs.
for anyone interested:
1:30 gear down!
1:33 guys i'm hit, marking myself for anyone who see (flares), doing an emergency landing
1:43 heli is under control
1:48 callsign 8-60, gear failure, stand down
1:58 our reducer gonna fail apart soon
2:02 calm (quiet, slow)
2:05 hold it, we don't have the front one
2:08 disembark
(we can see there that gear worked well tho. Probably the signal system was damaged that made them think that there is a gear failure)
Great info mate. Well done

That's one lethal and armored helicopter. For something that small and compact to deal the amount of damage it did in a small amount of flight time and saved its skilled pilots after getting hit.
A wonder of Aviation.

from only a rational point of view the captain has got impressive skills drawing the complete attention on his vehicle to protect his squad and made MANPAD positions visible to clear. Highly trained pilot....

Took all that damage and didn’t go down.. Props to the pilot for being able to land it without crashing.
Well, the Kamov`s coaxial scheme makes it possible to land even with the engines shutdown, this heli doesn`t need the yaw stabilisation from the rear rotor. That`s why it descends so softly.
the k-52 is designed to hold a minimum of 30 missiles. it's a flying tank. but it is extremely complex.
Even if the tail part is destroyed, this helicopter is still able to land safely, the advantage of this helicopter is that it has two rotors on top

That was actually pretty impressive performance from the helicopter that it took so much damage and could still land in a controlled descent
its 2 different helicopters in the video of the russians it was a blue bottom but not in the ukraine footage
@@theslayer9164 But the second helicopter was still damaged and landed in the field.
Helies can land when engine goes out. As long as the rotors are functional.
When falling, the rotors get turning momentum from the drag. Then at the right moment, very skilled pilots can use that built up rotational momentum to get one last thrust.
@@RocketLR It sounds fabulous, or we are talking about a small height. Most likely, if the engine is damaged, then the rotation of the main and tail rotors (or two rotors in the case of the KA-52) will become out of sync, the helicopter will begin to rotate around its axis and it will fall into a tailspin.
@@Soichy2 Depends on a lot of things. If the pilots disengage the rotors from the engine. Then there should be nothing breaking the rotors when spinning. So both rotors should get equal amount of pressure on them from the fall.
Heres a video explaining it. on regular helies.

@@XDarkSlayerX yup, they have modern equipment. They been preparing for an invasion since 2014 & been getting equipment & weapons. They also had advisers.
Modern weapons is different in each nation.
For example the F-22 was produced from 2005-2011. Humvees are still being produce, so Ukraine can have Humvees made in 2017 which will make the equipment more moder.
All the anti-air, anti-tank & equipment they been getting in my eyes is modern. So depending on your definition of “modern”, you can have a different view.

Never did.
Remember: The KA-52 is one of, if not the only operational helicopters equipped with ejection seats
how do the pilots eject without hitting the blades?
Wild, I presume the blades are jettisoned milliseconds before the seats eject, or they eject horizontal perhaps?
@@ryanwatterson4038 you're right. Blades shot off before the seats come out. And the system of the seat is pretty interesting too.
@Ouro Boros Up
For those that don't know, the blades are attached to the rotor shaft by explosive bolts, and then when the pilot pulls the ejection handle, it fires those bolts and inertia handles the rest, the blades fly away and then the rest of the ejection sequence is virtually identical to any other plane equipped with ejection seats. The canopy is jettisoned, followed almost immediately by the pilot and then by the navigator/gunner
This was posted on another channel:
The helicopter here was covering the airborne landing that happened in Hostomel on the day of the invasion. The KA 52's were drawing fire away from the transport helos, allowing them to land and deploy troops on the ground. This was the first wave of helicopters. The downed pilots were evacuated by the second wave
According to the report given by the downed pilot, they managed to evade at least 18 missiles shot at them, as well as neutralising some AAA units. What took down this aircraft was a hit that took out an engine, and the main rotor reductor.

The video is heavely cropped. The full version is even cooler. The most surreal part was the copter AI giving hints in detached female voice siri-style. "Manpads locking on us on the right, 30 degrees".
That's not an AI lol.

How is it "not clear" if this is the same helicopter. The helicopter in the first video has a blue band around the bottom and blue "hubcaps", for lack of a better term. The second helicopter clearly doesn't have this. Unless Russia paints its helicopters a-symmetrically, these are two different helicopters.
These are different helicopters. The first one has been evacuated and is probably already in combat formation. the video with the pilot's comments is called - УНИКАЛЬНЫЙ рассказ пилота Ка-52 о бое за Гостомель
@@skStranger Also the first part of the video is filmed Horizontally with better quality while the last part is vertically at lower quality. During the landing you can see in the left mirror the left wing is intact (no damage visible at all) while on the last part the left wing is completely damaged. Clearly glued toghether in a convenient manner. Go figure!
Mate, even in Holywood movies, you find these "little errors" 🤣🤣🤣
@@killer_x_treme The matter if the two videos were separate was never in question... If you actually paid attention, you'd know that. I commented purely on the part where it said "It's not clear if the helicopter in BOTH videos is the same one"
@@killer_x_treme When I originally watched this video it was claimed that the first video was from the Russian pilot and the second was from Ukrainian forces finding the helicopter
Perfect example of how situational awareness is key.
The KA-52 in the second footage is a different one since you can see from the POV of the pilot after laying on the field, you can see a small area of the helicopter painted with light blue, and in the last footage is like a grey or dark green
Different helicopters, lots of people are mentioning the paint. But also, notice the weapons load, during the first video they were firing what appeared to be dumb fire rockets, in the second video it looks like the KA-52 had external fuel tanks and laser guided precision munitions, not rockets.

The first one has a sky blue bottom, but the second doesn't. They sure look different to me.
Ka-52, is definitely THE SAFEST combat helicopter to be operating in a combat zone. Not only does it not have a tail rotor, but it also has ejection seats for its crew. It's robust, armored, it freakin' held together long enough for the pilot to land it nice and smooth. Kudos to the Russian pilot that landed without a hitch.

@SickClown The western military aid gives Ukraine the chance to defend their country. And makes putin think twice before starting the new war in the future. And that saves lives. Lots of them.
@@azgarogly The only thing that is going to come from further escalation is Grozny 2.0. The Russians have already made it clear multiple times that Ukraine is their backyard, they won't allow it to pivot to NATO no matter how much CIA pays the ukrainian elite. Russia will flatten the country if escalation does not stop. EU sympathizing ukrainians will flee west (as they are already doing) and the remaining folk will balkanize. The donated NATO armaments are already being sold for pennies on the dollar by Ukrainian officials to third parties who smuggle out of the country. Very little material is actually making it to the frontline.
Having a neutral state with concessions is way better than becoming the next Bosnia or Iraq.
@SickClown Ukraine must win the war. Otherwise Russia will continue attacking it's neighbours and it will be more and more lives lost. It is elementary. Stop the aggressor in the very beginning, don't let him to escalate the conflict to global war.
Yielding to the aggressor to save the lives also is a strategy. Some people where suggesting yielding to Hitler just to avoid the terrors of the war. But it seems that it would be a shitty strategy.

Russian Su-25 returned to the airfield after being hit by a missile
They also have twin opposing rotors, which allows a more controlled crash-landing. Compared to a conventional helo, which will go down like a brick at low altitude. (Auto-rotation) Dodging MANPADS is just down to luck -that’s what flares are for. MI-# are bigger helo’s with a bigger heat signature and less manoeuvrability. The KA-52 is more nimble and can fire sideways, but if the shrapnel or rods from a SAM take out the rotors it’ll go down like a brick also. Arms fire is different depending on calibre what will bring it down. Anything over 12.7mm and it’s toast. One other consideration to take in. A conventionally single rotor helicopter has to have a tail rotor to counter torque from the main rotor. The Alligator has none. The co-axial rotor - one rotates one way the other the opposite, cancels out the need for a tail rotor. So if a SAM hits anywhere near the tail it won’t destroy the tail rotor (as it doesn’t have one) causing it to spiral out of control.
@@stumpusMaximus All things considered - the ability for the rotors to blow off and the ejection seats mean that with enough altitude, the pilots can safely eject. Crash landings are more easily accomplished when the bird isnt in a death spin too.
As its shown, all six pilots of the three Alligators shot down here survived with two airframes intact. They successfully suppressed the SAM/AA positions while providing cover for ground forces to meet objectives. Even with the three loses if the aircraft, the operation was a success which they played a large part of. Helicopters are replaceable overall, dead pilots are not, so this is a proof of concept validation. Bell and Sikorsky should be taking notes.
Es Es 👍
Just a small detail: not a single swear word was said during whole fight and emergency landing after they were badly hit by manpad
They're not American
We Russians know how to keep our cool in difficult situations and sometimes we may not say a word
They are gentlemens
That pilots voice sounds pretty calm considering being hit by manpad for 3 times. I'd literally shit my pants if experiencing something like this
So I'm assuming the pilot on the left is the gunner because he has that HUD in front of him and the other pilot it the one actually flying it. How does the pilot flying know where to point the chopper so the gunner can shoot targets with the rockets? I didn't see a HUD on his side. IDK if that other automatic gun he was shooting oscillates like on the Apache, but I'm assuming it does.
Also, IDK if that was the same chopper at the end. The belly didn't have that bright blue paint on it like the first one.
My flight sim at home doesn't shake like this, but now I want it to.
😂
you can come to Ukraine and experience arma 3 would you?

DCS has ka-50, it shakes!
It's weird hearing the autocannon in the real life footage and still knowing exactly what's happening thanks to the simulator sounds being on-point
Two different heli's. You can tell by the foliage. The first video, they jump out to very short mown fields. The next field is overgrown.
It's the new attack grass on a bad trip.

That would be a proffessional soldier for you. Those Z and V marks are not some ideological stuff like swastika. They are actually for marking the vehicles for West and East. However, it's the fellow civvies here in Russia to use those who bother me a lot.

@@K.Marx48 I'd say it's also quite irrational and rigid. Like there are so many things I know how to say in English but struggle with finding the correct words in Russian. And I am Russian.
