- Russian State Media released footage of a Russian BTR-82 in urban combat during the ongoing battle for Mariupol.
Based on the footage it seems the BTR-82 was supporting Chechen fighters together with Seperatist forces and Russian Marines.
At first the BTR engages with a so called shoot-and-scoot tactic but takes a more exposed position after expected Ukrainian counter fire was missing.
Mariupol is one of the most contested areas in the war and it seems the city is about to fall in to Russian hands soon.

You sort of get the feeling that there's nothing happening here really. The body language of the Russians suggests that it's relatively safe where they are and there doesn't seem to be any incoming fire at all.

The power of suppressing fire. This is probably a low intensity zone, with likely just a couple of guys in a building on the other side. Neither side is releasing footage of heavy fighting because it's not good for morale if you see your soldiers scared or dying.
the video doesnt do justice of how insanely loud it is to stand by one of those when they fire, you feel it in your chest its so damn loud.
The 30mm automatic cannon of the BTR-82 is fucken scary.

I really swear that you can feel how powerful the main gun of the BTR by just listening to it's loud firing sound.

This appears completely staged: The lack of any visible resistance, the exposed positions of the Russians, the camera filming a few feet away from a prime target, the thumbs up and smiles, and of course the old woman whose conveniently left in the village and walking out onto and open battlefield. Yeah, In another post by the Russian media. They showed the leader of Chechen fighters praying to Allah in a gas station in Ukraine. The problem is the gas station is a Russian owned one which is not operating inside Ukraine.

Most of the videos from both sides appear to be staged. There have been some drone footage that appears legit. Where you see both sides scrambling under fire.

1:46 can you imagine a cameraman staying on the side of an armored vehicle during a REAL battle?
I have read many books written by tank commanders shortly after WW2, they often told of forcing army foot soldiers off and away from the tanks and scout tanks because the tanks draw large amounts enemy fire, and they were often killed and wounded just by being too close to tanks. The German officers were known for their journal keeping which enabled so many of them writing accurate accounts of battles through years of war. Some so much so it gets kind of boring listings all the data in their writing.

@@Temislaw Well I do and the poster is correct, there is no return fire at all. Also IFVs are a fire support platform whose purpose is suppression whilst your infantry closes in and kills the enemy.

Helping the old lady from the damage caused by themselves is kind of contradicting.
Well, this can indeed be grandma of one of the separatists. They are on their own land. The footage was taken in Rubezhnoye, from where many of the LNR fighters are from.
Most of the war experts here are call of duty veterans. Fought in the great war of black ops 2 and now giving us their hard shared experiences

The main gun on that btr82 is a scary beast some rate of fire for a larger calibre round, not much hard cover could take the beating that thing is handling out
1:39 would hate to be on the other side of those rounds, the sound of the weapon firing is scary yet has a interesting sound to its shooting
Its pretty fun to be inside of a similar vehicle when its shooting :D I was trained with the cv-90 and i can say i enjoyed :D But on the other hand, if a war broke out, i would not want to go in that thing EVER, its a damn coffin same as the BTR/BMP's that are getting shit on by javelins and such :P But the riding in it and shooting part is fun while not in danger, also i loved to sleep in it when we were doing a motor march hahah :D

As a former German soldier (2008-2021) I'll give you my personal thoughts and conclusions about this footage. Which means it is open for debate whether I'm correct or not.
My personal thoughts regarding this footage:
These guys make the impression that they don't really have a clue what their current objective is. Movement looks uncoordinated. The APC is hammering the building where the crew suspects enemy positions just to stand out in the open afterwards. Furthermore you can see some of the soldiers casually walking not taking cover (which is even more vital in urban combat).
My conclusion regarding this footage:
This looks like it may have been recorded after a real firefight in conquered territory (meaning it's staged for the Russian media). This is not a new thing. The Germans and the British did this back in WW I and WW II. A civilian might not be able to spot certain details. Anyway these are just my thoughts based on what I saw.
I think it is fairly obvious that no active fighting is happening at the time and location of the footage.
I think you're absolutely right. The theory of staged scenes is further reinforced by other videos uploaded by Chechens in Mariupol. Shooting some buildings without receiving any counterfire and many members of the unit casually standing around.

The Nazis in Mariupol are responsible for most of the civilian deaths, especially those who wanted to escape from the city. Unfortunately this youtube channel and others do not show the other side... many civilians celebrated the arrival of the Russian army.

Was thinking the same thing. Technically he probably had some distance to jump to the side, but the BTR backed very fast.
Technically he could see your arm or other body parts while you can't see his eyes cuz angles matter.

LOL. There's no "shift" in Russian strategy. From the beginning, Russian never intended to enter and assault major cities like Kiev. Instead they deployed forces in a feint to force Ukrops to defend those cities, effectively pinning them, and since Russia's had air supremacy from the getgo, attrit those units. Meanwhile, Russian Navy off Odessa pinned Ukrops there, while also launching strategic missile strikes.
The primary goal of the Russian forces has ALWAYS been to encircle and reduce the vast majority of the "best" Ukrops who had assembled along the LOC with the intent to launch an assault on Donbas in early March, which of course the Russians with their excellent intelligence were already aware.
Reduction of the east Donbas cauldron will now begin in earnest, essentially completing the task of wiping out the majority of whatever is left of Ukrops best troops.

If that was what Russia intended, they're fools. Ukrainian units aren't being "pinned", they're defending fortress cities. Russia is a maneuver-warfare army (they're failing at even that). Their doctrine isn't built to engage in urban warfare. That is how Sumy, Mauripol, and Chernihiv haven't fallen after over a MONTH of fighting. Ukraine's situation favors attrition, since THEY aren't under sanctions, and armor isn't their strongpoint. They're biggest strength is the fact that they can obtain advanced Western anti-tank missiles and MANPANDS, while Russia has to rely on its rapidly diminishing stockpiles, and whatever their defense industry can cobble together (which is very little).
The longer the war drags on, the weaker Russia gets. Their capabilities are degraded, their equipment is lost or captured, their precision weapons run out. Meanwhile, Ukraine further mobilizes, gets more man-portable weaponry, captures more Russian equipment.

So, let's do a quick review: Ukraine has no air defenses left, no air force left, no command/control left, no ability to mount effective counterstrikes, running out of ammo, fuel, bases, heavy weapons, and ... time.

Snipers or reconnaissance groups are sitting in many buildings. We have to work on the supposed points of the enemy in order not to lose personnel. The Americans, by the way, level cities with bombs for this.
Russia will have to leave Ukraine and pay for the damage caused. It`s so tragic that Putin has caused an unimaginable damage to Russia, has reinforced the need of defense architecture of Europe in cooperation with NATO, has damaged the Russian economy like no one before him and yet he still enjoys support. Russians need a wake up call, it looks like they have nothing more to offer to the world than raw materials and threats with nuclear war. Such a waste of great human and resource potential. This is what happens when you are completely consumed by the paranoid doctrine that everyone`s goal is to work against you while the globalized world has changed in the meantime.

Maybe it would be worth considering the desire of residents of the whole country before making decisions? Politicians unleash wars with their decisions, ordinary people suffer in them. Everything is as usual.

Thanks for the Video. Perfect example for a staged one. Granny walks first from left to right, than from right to left. Soldiers walk by... like nothing is there... No shot heared. BTR shows up... waits a few seconds and then shoots at some trees before a house.
