Have you ever considered becoming a school counselor one day? You have such an openness and gentleness about you.

@@kalikavalentine4143 Wow! That's so good to hear, I am doing the exact same thing. Just left teaching and started grad school for school counseling. It's so validating to hear how positive the change was for you!

Finishing up my degree and these glimpses into your classroom and teaching style are what I aspire to be. I’m excited to document my journey as well. Also, as a mom of 2 I appreciate that you don’t really show your daughter, there’s ways to share your life without compromising their privacy. ❤️

I have been feeling that same slip of balance between “kind and compassionate” and “get your ish together” with my students this week as well, on top of the major sensory overload I’ve been in as a new mom and fairly new teacher. I took a mental health day from work today and just watched your video as I took a lovely bath with candles. It felt nice to know I’m not the only one feeling like I’m losing balance. You’re doing amazing and those kids obviously love you.

I am glad to hear that I am not the only teacher who is struggling with being kind and wanting them to do what is excepted of them. We have been in school almost a month and there are times during the day when they act like it is day two. I enjoyed the video this week.

I know this video is old but for any teachers who come across it: I'm a parent of an 8yo who is just starting to mature out of the "little kid" stage. I've also worked in classrooms and routinely volunteer in my daughter's Girl Scout troop. I can vouch for the fact that first graders are just at a really tricky stage. They seem to be so big and mature one minute, and act like preschoolers the next. Those brains are growing like crazy, and of course with a whole class of them the maturity levels are all over the place. You're exactly right about how hard it is to balance compassion with high expectations. But the fact that you're aware of the need for balance means you're doing a great job! And I say this as a "gentle parent" - you don't sound overly strict at all. Remember enforcing the rules helps keep everyone safe and helps kids be clear on what to expect. As long as your expectations are developmentally appropriate, and allow for kids to have bad days, I think you can have high expectations and still be compassionate.

Lol! The spaghetti part was hilarious! So I snap my noodles in half, however, if you watch any Italian cook’s, videos they say that breaking the noodle is blasphemy. Apparently, the true Italian way is to cook the entire noodle without breaking them. So I guess in a way you’re both right? 😂

When did Jordan start crawling? I missed it. When she was crawling I was surprised. She seems so content. Some babies don't just chill in the bed that way so you're a lucky mama. The first couple of months of a new class is exhausting. The kids are still learning (and testing 🙄) the expectations. It's funny how much as a teacher we forget how the beginning is each year and it's often hard to stay patient because you feel they KNOW this and yet they don't.

I’m in third grade as a first year teacher and I’m feeling the exact same way with classroom management. I told myself i
wouldn’t be super stern the first week of school, but some thing I just can’t let go. For example we practiced and modeled flexible seating the first day of school. Second day a student chucked a bouncy chair across the room 😑 glad I’m not the only one 😂😂

Thank you for sharing. You have a lot of energy. It takes a lot of work to do this job. I come in love (ANY BUA BHaB). Pork and ham are not allowed as food, according to the Creator. Love your spouse, as he is a blessing from the Creator. No one wins when you are seeing who wins. Professional cooks often say, do not break the speghetti, but do what seems right to you. // SHLM & HaB (peace & love). The Name of the Creator is Hayah asher Hayah, as what He told Moshah (Exodus 3:14), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. There is a curse to the G-o-d name (Isaiah 65:11-12), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. All followers of the Messiah are to do the 7 appointed times (Leviticus 23), but no more animal sacrifices, following the Crucifixion of the Messiah. We are now of the order of MLK TSDQ (King, righteous), to Whom ABRaHM tithed. Ask the Messiah to be your personal Savior. He said to him, I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6). All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of Hayah (Romans 3:23). The wages for sin is death but the gift of ALaHYM is Everlasting Life through Messiah Yahushgh our Master (Romans 6:23). That if you confess with your mouth the Master Yahushgh and believe in your heart that ALaHYM raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved (Romans 10:9). He Himself is an Atoning Offering for our sins, and not for ours only but also for all the world (1 John 2:2). The Messiah died on the cross, & Resurrected three days later (presenting Himself as First Fruits to the Father). Please ask Him to be your Savior. He is the ONLY way to Everlasting Life.
