It has this one song in the soundtrack that is so good I can’t believe it’s not been used in any other games. It’s on par with some of halos best soundtracks. All that needs to be said about halo 3 is that it had the ability to make a clip go viral without any social media, it all happened in the game and only became viral on UA-cam later. Also halo wars story stand alone is absolutely great and I was super happy when they announced wars 2 and even happier when it released and was actually a worthy sequel that may have actually been better, heck that cutscene that introduced atriox and the one after where Isabel explains who he is and cutter takes a second and gives THEE single best speech in the whole franchise about family and dedication. Oh man what a cutscene!

They should update Halo master chief collection but maybe they should wait a couple years beings Halo infinite might lose players. Halo master chief collection is the ultimate Halo and I'm sad its not the newest title

When it comes to Halo Wars, I think the main reason I loved it's style of RTS gameplay even compared to bigger RTS games like Starcraft and Megaglest, is that it didn't feel like a snowball race or some form of grand strategy match. It felt more like a short-term tactical game like X-COM but in RTS format. Where instead of building grand armies and creating a large empire, you focused on early-conflict guerilla style hit-and-runs to make the most out of your limited resource pool. Capturing the key positions like a chess match and constantly prodding your opponents to see what they were building so you could counter in a more fast-paced chess-style manner. Like I would always crank a warthog out early and harass my opponents about 3 minutes in so I could get a feel for if they were focusing on infantry, vehicles, or air and plan my army comp early to counter them. Matches also were much more digestible and quick too.
Halo 2600 is pretty neat actually, remember playing it on emulators back in the day. You can do a skip through a wall and the game will cycle between all the rooms, if you pop out at the right time you'll be put in the final room and can kill the prophet quickly.
*My only hot take is that Halo 2 should be on top of all others,* completely for the story reasons. Followed by one then three. I am judging purely by quality of the story and writing
I agree with this. Halo 3 had the weakest story out of the original trilogy if you begin to scrutinize it, but is redeemed enough by the cool stuff that happens in it.
Dunno why people fanboy over Bungie so much, Halo CE & 3 are the weakest, CE has terrible level design from the mid section until the end. (Library, Pillar of Autumn reactor room, warthog escape🤮) Halo 3 has cool moments but the story is weak sauce & it looks the worst as it didnt get the anniversary makeover. They really only created Halo 2 & Reach were the only really good ones, ODST had the same weaknesses as H3 but it was ok.
I remember seeing your halo 4 retrospective a few years back, and I am glad to see you still think highly of it. The multiplayer wasn't that great, but I love the campaign of Halo 4 and was happy to see someone else liked it too. The history of Halo Wars is so fascinating to me, starting off as this red headed stepchild game that bungie hated to then getting a sequel that would introduce the banished, the most important faction in the now most recent Halo game. Just interesting and kinda funny how that worked out.
It always bugged me how these halo UA-camrs never really talk about the absolute abuse those developers went through by Bungie and how little help bungie gave the Devs while they were making the game.

Fireteam Raven is awesome as a sit down mounted turret shooter but even better theres a new version where its the exact same game but you're instead standing up with pretty well molded Halo CE assault rifles and it is SO MUCH FUN. S tier arcade game and fantastic Halo game even if its like literally impossible to beat it without dumping a ton of credits unless you're a REALLY good squad
Halo CE was genuinely the best First person shooter I had played after years of CoD. Even when grabbing the whole Bungie games of Halo along with the Black Ops trilogy and MW trilogy, I can whole heartedly say that the campaign of Halo CE, is up there on my list. (I still love CoD4 and Black Ops 1)
Halo 4 is one of my favorites purely for its story. It turned the camera onto the master chief, asking questions about himself. Imo, one of the best stories.
Gotta thank CE for giving us 2 joysticks. There are very few games over 20yr old that I can still go and play and have a great time. Halo 2 has my favorite halo mission though: Delta Halo. Reach is my favorite halo thanks to forge mode with fixed and phased physics. Hate how forge world has never made a return.
CE is my favorite Halo and could be my favorite game of all time. Campaign was awesome as it was in the later Halos as well. But the multiplayer was at it's absolute peak and has only come downhill since. CE has the best sandbox, every weapon has it's place (except the Needler XD). CE has static weapon and power-up spawns which are great and makes you to take these battles every minute around the map. But the best thing about CE is the weapon and power-up physics. There are just so many nades to learn to get some of the weapons and power-ups much faster or easier. It's a shame they lowered the physics so much in later Halos. Also close to being my favorite feature of CE is the melee system. No freaking melee lunge. It's so much better. Plus of course double melee, backpack reload, quick camo etc. And I actually like fall damage and health packs. You really need to know your paths around the map and you might need to look for health packs as one nade can kill you if you're low. Also if you're playing 2v2 as you should, the spawn system is great. Easy to manipulate if you know the system.
Nice change up to see this kind of content from you my dude. You could definitely do lists for the various versions of enemies from your "evolution" videos, just to highlight your favorites.
I'm actually really surprised to hear that people were upset with ODST at launch. And to be fair to it, the 60 dollar asking price did incude the comprehensive and updated H3 multiplayer
How dare LNG not discuss our Lord, Halo 2 Anniversary multiplayer, and our Savior, the console release of Combat Evolved Anniversary (plus the Halo Reach Anniversary map pack included with it). Not even the Halo 3 Mythic disc! Me and my boys also loved playing the Halo 2 Legendary Collector's Edition documentary disc. I jest, though. I agree with your takes, especially the Reach one. It's a lovable game, even if one disagrees with some of its choices.
My First experience with Halo was via the MCC, and I have to say, ODST feels a lot more appropriate in that context than it did as a stand alone game. It repackaging Halo 3's Multiplayer doesn't feel weird because it also contains all of Halo 3, the pricing is a lot more fair (as the entirety of the MCC is the price of 1 AAA game) And firefight's just a good time. I like playing the maps at night time and feeling spooked as I hear the covenant ships circling overhead with the next wave of enemies. And Halo Wars having a cult following like that doesn't surprise me. Brood War's community kept itself alive even after Blizzard tried to kill its E-Sports Scene in 2010-2011, and that was the main reason we got a remaster in the first place.
ODST was just weird at launch because it was released with a second disc that was halo 3’s mp with all DLC, along with 3 new maps. If you never owned the DLC for halo 3, the game was actually fairly priced.
Halo reach best halo ever the campaign is literally the greatest expirence I've ever had. I was 9 years old at the time. It f@#king slapped. 3odst was my first halo game and I thought it was OK but reach oh reach..mwha!!!! Its brilliant.the the multiplayer was shantastic and underated and every single point you made about the forge and the multiplayer itself were all things I felt as a kid and it really makes me smile to know that people still find it so good. I just frigin love this game. The spartan abilitys and stuff wasn't the best sure but it was the single handedly the best halo title ever.thank you for the nostalgia bro. Always appreciated❤
LNG Halo CE is not only a godly party game but also a godly competitive game due to how the weapons are balanced. A unforgettably fun starting Pistol that rewards skill, surrounded by a tightly balanced sandbox, packaged with a whole bunch of fun game modes and maps, make it a masterpiece of a game.
I personally really like halo wars 2 music, even if it’s different from the rest. Nothing gets me as hard as Antediluvian at 0:25 I also agree with you statement with infinite’s music. It actually feels inspired and has some really good ones (never tell me the odds) Your ODST statement is also very agreeable, I personally like it because of the dark atmosphere, instead of the guns blazing like in almost every other halo game
Halo 3’s story is honestly pretty bad compared to 1 or 2, not gonna lie. Because of the fact it’s held to such high standards, every time I replay it, I always think: “Maybe the story is gonna be better this time around?” but no. It’s got great missions but is narratively quite underwhelming. That’s until you get to the mission The Covenant, but you’re literally 3/4 done by the time you get there.
S - Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo: Reach A - Halo 3: ODST, Halo Infinite B - Halo: CE, Halo 5 C - D - Halo 4 F - 2, 3, and Reach are all the complete package for campaign and MP + Forge (counting H2A for forge.) These are my baseline for what I want out of a Halo experience. ODST is almost there, but I wish the campaign had a bit more variety. I still like it for what it is. Halo Infinite, for all its faults, I love. I'm largely uninterested in cosmetics and upgrades, and I love the core gameplay, the sandbox, and the new forge is AMAZING. I feel that the multiplayer experience got the most important core features very right and almost all of the supporting features very wrong, but I can mostly ignore those. Campaign was a mixed bag but once again the core combat was very fun and the enemy variety was superb, the best since Reach. CE I appreciate but I think it has aged a bit. There is a lot of janky movement and vehicles feel awful to drive, and the multiplayer is just a mess. Halo 5 had an awful campaign but a very strong multiplayer with great forge and custom games, so it balances out for me, Halo 4 is not a bad game, but I can't stand it. The art design, the writing, the audio for a lot of the weapons, the COD elements in multiplayer. It also had the weakest iteration on forge from any one title to the next, which is very important to me. I may be one of the few people who likes Halo 5 campaign more than 4, and I don't even like H5 campaign much. The entire game just rubs me the wrong way.

I love CE's campaign but can't stand it's multiplayer, and I think 5's campaign is the weakest in the franchise but it had a really great multiplayer and forge. Having to judge camp and MP together ends up with them lumped together for that reason, despite my feelings on the two games being wildly different in most regards.
halo wars was what introduced me to rts and now its one of my favorite genres ever. I remember when it came out i was about 11 and didnt do much research on it and when i got it day one just because it was a halo title i was so excited a new halo! I still remeber the disapointment i felt when i finally played it lmao it wasnt the halo i was used to, i went in expecting a halo prequel fps. But i kept playing even with my disappointment and it became one of my favorite games in the franchise along with halo wars 2. I wish many of my other fps friends would have given it a try. I remember it being trashed on alot cause it was a different halo.
Hey LNG, man? This video slaps. I haven't thought on it for years, since I sold my XB360 ages back, but- I spent about 5 hours one Friday back in the day on Reach in Forge. If you, LNG, or anyone out there, still has an XB360, I'd love if you could look for, and maybe find a photo- of something titled "UNSC Assault Frigate" by either FPSxWolfen or Wolfenstriker or something similar. Whilst I am no pro by any means, I showed virtually my entire friends list that map, and everyone said how well I'd recreated a playable, downscaled UNSC Paris-Class Frigate. I'd love to recreate it somehow in Infinite Forge, but I've no longer got a frame of reference.

my MCC bugged while I was playing halo 4, not really interrupting my game type of bugs but annoying, the sound and stuff started cutting out and I couldn't have any confirmation that I shot the enemy or even fired the weapon at all.

I thought that halo infinite’s campaign was perfect! They did a fantastic job making sure that the campaign doesn’t launch buggy, or messy! The open world was the best part of the game! I love how I can climb up a mountain, and take zero fall damage! The story also has all of the beats of the previous halo games, and the level design with the cake on top!

19:00 I have to severely but respectfully disagree. Halo reach may have had a ton of content but quality > quantity The overall design of the game in its sandbox/gameplay is trash and poorly executed. It was a one foot in with halo one foot out for destiny. Don’t believe me that’s it’s a lazy game? Look at forge world. They literally just made a big map and said in their meetings “nah 1 map should be enough, just make it 5 times bigger and those fanboys will eat it up” I also don’t get what you’re talking about with graphics. Reach was a downgrade compared to 3. Sure it had more geo points, but the lighting was sacrificed leading to a flat bland, cartoony look. Just look at the fricking motion blur (and I like motion blur). It looked horrible even by the 30fps standard. In film and photo, we understand that the softer the light and the more raised the shadows are the less percieved detail there is; contrast helps accentuate detail. Too little and it’s detail that can’t be appreciated, too much and you lose detail. The forge maps didn’t help this either. Grey, bleeping gray. Like really? Bungie couldn’t b bothered to give us different environments or pallets?
Idk what it is but halo 2 feels so good to play when it comes to the guns and everything. All the others have felt just a little off compared to halo 2 and I still don't why as nothing objective clicks and explains it. It might be a combination of small things like way faster projectiles and great hit feedback
Halo 2600 is actually super super cool, it's a pretty impressive project, it was made for a console from the 70's so obviously it's not exactly mind-blowing or graphically impressive but it is a pretty cool project imo

See I actually agree with your spartan assault placement more than halo 4 and 5. When ranking these I would only use consideration of what the games were like at launch and spartan assault did was it was meant to do a a mobile experience where halo 4 and 5 failed in their regards as mainstay halo games. Halo 2 is the best. I don't care if sacred icon and quarantine zone (best song in the game tho) are dogshit levels and no one has ever played more than 5 minutes of uprising. Halo 2 was where the multi-player of this this series really stepped into its own. If you weren't old enough to play swat on lockout, sucks to suck I guess but it was amazing. Halo 2 was the peak of Halo story telling (even with the cliff hanger). It had all the internet rumor wild speculation of early 2000s games with dev nods to the creativity of players breaking the game (hi scarab gun). It INTRODUCED SKULLS. Just glossed over that fact. CE laid the ground work and 2 perfected the sandbox. The series never really took a step forward after that. The stupid bubble shields in 3 and power ups were the beginning of the end, there was just enough of good Halo left you didn't notice it. I mean detachable turrets and destructable phantoms were cool, but nothing will ever top the feeling the first time you heard that energy sword active in 2.
I love halo 2 but halo 3 is so much more replayable and its not even close. no filler, no awkward waves of enemies in a single room, it was one incredible set piece to another. the entire game is a masterclass in level design. and you really call 2's BR-dominated sandbox perfect? even CE had a larger roster of viable weapons.
My biggest agreements with what you said: -Spartan Assault is excellent for what it is -Halo Reach is the biggest bang for your buck, most content in one game (though I'd put it in God Tier personally) -Halo 4 is actually really good

Big disagree on Halo 4. story was great, game was... Not. I played through it just to finish the story on it and have 0 desire to replay. Such a chore to play it
I don't know if Halo 2 classic multiplayer is bugged on MCC but the sound mixing is awful, i hear everything on the center and i don't know if i have a dude on the left, the right or behind. By that alone i don't like the multiplayer of Halo 2, broken game balance as well (Halo 1 even worse here). Halo 3, Reach and 4 have fantastic multiplayer, 3 and 4 in particular.
Man I played halo infinite forever after the game came out. It was my first ever RTS so I dont have any of the same gripes about it. The music, story, scale, everything about it was just perfect to me at the time. Now going back and playing it again today after grinding sc2 and I start wanting to shoot myself trying to select units. But at the time it was the best thing to ever exist.

Reach is my favorite halo thanks to forge mode with fixed and phased physics. Hate how forge world has never made a return.
CE is my favorite Halo and could be my favorite game of all time. Campaign was awesome as it was in the later Halos as well. But the multiplayer was at it's absolute peak and has only come downhill since. CE has the best sandbox, every weapon has it's place (except the Needler XD). CE has static weapon and power-up spawns which are great and makes you to take these battles every minute around the map. But the best thing about CE is the weapon and power-up physics. There are just so many nades to learn to get some of the weapons and power-ups much faster or easier. It's a shame they lowered the physics so much in later Halos. Also close to being my favorite feature of CE is the melee system. No freaking melee lunge. It's so much better. Plus of course double melee, backpack reload, quick camo etc. And I actually like fall damage and health packs. You really need to know your paths around the map and you might need to look for health packs as one nade can kill you if you're low. Also if you're playing 2v2 as you should, the spawn system is great. Easy to manipulate if you know the system.
Nice change up to see this kind of content from you my dude. You could definitely do lists for the various versions of enemies from your "evolution" videos, just to highlight your favorites.
I'm actually really surprised to hear that people were upset with ODST at launch. And to be fair to it, the 60 dollar asking price did incude the comprehensive and updated H3 multiplayer
How dare LNG not discuss our Lord, Halo 2 Anniversary multiplayer, and our Savior, the console release of Combat Evolved Anniversary (plus the Halo Reach Anniversary map pack included with it). Not even the Halo 3 Mythic disc! Me and my boys also loved playing the Halo 2 Legendary Collector's Edition documentary disc.
I jest, though. I agree with your takes, especially the Reach one. It's a lovable game, even if one disagrees with some of its choices.

My First experience with Halo was via the MCC, and I have to say, ODST feels a lot more appropriate in that context than it did as a stand alone game. It repackaging Halo 3's Multiplayer doesn't feel weird because it also contains all of Halo 3, the pricing is a lot more fair (as the entirety of the MCC is the price of 1 AAA game) And firefight's just a good time. I like playing the maps at night time and feeling spooked as I hear the covenant ships circling overhead with the next wave of enemies.
And Halo Wars having a cult following like that doesn't surprise me. Brood War's community kept itself alive even after Blizzard tried to kill its E-Sports Scene in 2010-2011, and that was the main reason we got a remaster in the first place.
ODST was just weird at launch because it was released with a second disc that was halo 3’s mp with all DLC, along with 3 new maps. If you never owned the DLC for halo 3, the game was actually fairly priced.
ODST felt like that because it was originally going to be a DLC addon for 3.
Halo reach best halo ever the campaign is literally the greatest expirence I've ever had. I was 9 years old at the time. It f@#king slapped. 3odst was my first halo game and I thought it was OK but reach oh reach..mwha!!!! Its brilliant.the the multiplayer was shantastic and underated and every single point you made about the forge and the multiplayer itself were all things I felt as a kid and it really makes me smile to know that people still find it so good. I just frigin love this game. The spartan abilitys and stuff wasn't the best sure but it was the single handedly the best halo title ever.thank you for the nostalgia bro. Always appreciated❤

LNG Halo CE is not only a godly party game but also a godly competitive game due to how the weapons are balanced. A unforgettably fun starting Pistol that rewards skill, surrounded by a tightly balanced sandbox, packaged with a whole bunch of fun game modes and maps, make it a masterpiece of a game.
I personally really like halo wars 2 music, even if it’s different from the rest. Nothing gets me as hard as Antediluvian at 0:25
I also agree with you statement with infinite’s music. It actually feels inspired and has some really good ones (never tell me the odds)
Your ODST statement is also very agreeable, I personally like it because of the dark atmosphere, instead of the guns blazing like in almost every other halo game
Halo 3’s story is honestly pretty bad compared to 1 or 2, not gonna lie. Because of the fact it’s held to such high standards, every time I replay it, I always think: “Maybe the story is gonna be better this time around?” but no. It’s got great missions but is narratively quite underwhelming. That’s until you get to the mission The Covenant, but you’re literally 3/4 done by the time you get there.
I love the fact you grew up with RTS Experience. I love Starcraft and Age of Empires (Though Starcraft is my gem)

2, 3, and Reach are all the complete package for campaign and MP + Forge (counting H2A for forge.) These are my baseline for what I want out of a Halo experience.
ODST is almost there, but I wish the campaign had a bit more variety. I still like it for what it is. Halo Infinite, for all its faults, I love. I'm largely uninterested in cosmetics and upgrades, and I love the core gameplay, the sandbox, and the new forge is AMAZING. I feel that the multiplayer experience got the most important core features very right and almost all of the supporting features very wrong, but I can mostly ignore those. Campaign was a mixed bag but once again the core combat was very fun and the enemy variety was superb, the best since Reach.
CE I appreciate but I think it has aged a bit. There is a lot of janky movement and vehicles feel awful to drive, and the multiplayer is just a mess. Halo 5 had an awful campaign but a very strong multiplayer with great forge and custom games, so it balances out for me,
Halo 4 is not a bad game, but I can't stand it. The art design, the writing, the audio for a lot of the weapons, the COD elements in multiplayer. It also had the weakest iteration on forge from any one title to the next, which is very important to me. I may be one of the few people who likes Halo 5 campaign more than 4, and I don't even like H5 campaign much. The entire game just rubs me the wrong way.

I love CE's campaign but can't stand it's multiplayer, and I think 5's campaign is the weakest in the franchise but it had a really great multiplayer and forge. Having to judge camp and MP together ends up with them lumped together for that reason, despite my feelings on the two games being wildly different in most regards.

halo wars was what introduced me to rts and now its one of my favorite genres ever. I remember when it came out i was about 11 and didnt do much research on it and when i got it day one just because it was a halo title i was so excited a new halo! I still remeber the disapointment i felt when i finally played it lmao it wasnt the halo i was used to, i went in expecting a halo prequel fps. But i kept playing even with my disappointment and it became one of my favorite games in the franchise along with halo wars 2. I wish many of my other fps friends would have given it a try. I remember it being trashed on alot cause it was a different halo.

If you, LNG, or anyone out there, still has an XB360, I'd love if you could look for, and maybe find a photo- of something titled "UNSC Assault Frigate" by either FPSxWolfen or Wolfenstriker or something similar.
Whilst I am no pro by any means, I showed virtually my entire friends list that map, and everyone said how well I'd recreated a playable, downscaled UNSC Paris-Class Frigate. I'd love to recreate it somehow in Infinite Forge, but I've no longer got a frame of reference.

my MCC bugged while I was playing halo 4, not really interrupting my game type of bugs but annoying, the sound and stuff started cutting out and I couldn't have any confirmation that I shot the enemy or even fired the weapon at all.

I thought that halo infinite’s campaign was perfect! They did a fantastic job making sure that the campaign doesn’t launch buggy, or messy! The open world was the best part of the game! I love how I can climb up a mountain, and take zero fall damage! The story also has all of the beats of the previous halo games, and the level design with the cake on top!

The overall design of the game in its sandbox/gameplay is trash and poorly executed. It was a one foot in with halo one foot out for destiny. Don’t believe me that’s it’s a lazy game? Look at forge world. They literally just made a big map and said in their meetings “nah 1 map should be enough, just make it 5 times bigger and those fanboys will eat it up”
I also don’t get what you’re talking about with graphics. Reach was a downgrade compared to 3. Sure it had more geo points, but the lighting was sacrificed leading to a flat bland, cartoony look. Just look at the fricking motion blur (and I like motion blur). It looked horrible even by the 30fps standard. In film and photo, we understand that the softer the light and the more raised the shadows are the less percieved detail there is; contrast helps accentuate detail. Too little and it’s detail that can’t be appreciated, too much and you lose detail. The forge maps didn’t help this either. Grey, bleeping gray. Like really? Bungie couldn’t b bothered to give us different environments or pallets?

All the others have felt just a little off compared to halo 2 and I still don't why as nothing objective clicks and explains it. It might be a combination of small things like way faster projectiles and great hit feedback
Halo 2600 is actually super super cool, it's a pretty impressive project, it was made for a console from the 70's so obviously it's not exactly mind-blowing or graphically impressive but it is a pretty cool project imo

See I actually agree with your spartan assault placement more than halo 4 and 5. When ranking these I would only use consideration of what the games were like at launch and spartan assault did was it was meant to do a a mobile experience where halo 4 and 5 failed in their regards as mainstay halo games. Agree with the rest and the points you, gave to them.
Halo 2 is the best. I don't care if sacred icon and quarantine zone (best song in the game tho) are dogshit levels and no one has ever played more than 5 minutes of uprising.
Halo 2 was where the multi-player of this this series really stepped into its own. If you weren't old enough to play swat on lockout, sucks to suck I guess but it was amazing.
Halo 2 was the peak of Halo story telling (even with the cliff hanger). It had all the internet rumor wild speculation of early 2000s games with dev nods to the creativity of players breaking the game (hi scarab gun). It INTRODUCED SKULLS. Just glossed over that fact.
CE laid the ground work and 2 perfected the sandbox. The series never really took a step forward after that. The stupid bubble shields in 3 and power ups were the beginning of the end, there was just enough of good Halo left you didn't notice it. I mean detachable turrets and destructable phantoms were cool, but nothing will ever top the feeling the first time you heard that energy sword active in 2.
I love halo 2 but halo 3 is so much more replayable and its not even close. no filler, no awkward waves of enemies in a single room, it was one incredible set piece to another. the entire game is a masterclass in level design. and you really call 2's BR-dominated sandbox perfect? even CE had a larger roster of viable weapons.
Honestly yeah solid list, I think I would just switch Halo and Halo 2s spots, but yeah I would have to mostly agree

I don't know if Halo 2 classic multiplayer is bugged on MCC but the sound mixing is awful, i hear everything on the center and i don't know if i have a dude on the left, the right or behind.
By that alone i don't like the multiplayer of Halo 2, broken game balance as well (Halo 1 even worse here). Halo 3, Reach and 4 have fantastic multiplayer, 3 and 4 in particular.

Man I played halo infinite forever after the game came out. It was my first ever RTS so I dont have any of the same gripes about it. The music, story, scale, everything about it was just perfect to me at the time. Now going back and playing it again today after grinding sc2 and I start wanting to shoot myself trying to select units. But at the time it was the best thing to ever exist.
