Like the old saying goes, you can't make a viola without breaking a few eggs.

BRAVO GRAHAM BUDDY ! what a work of art my friend . it sounds beautiful as well wish we could have heard more of it .
QUESTION !! if you are using a oil based varnish why not use oil paints ? now i know that oil paints take a very long time to dry hey will set in a day or two depending and with in a few minutes or so to touch . but take years to cure . so why not use oil paints ? how ever if using acrylic paints that are water based paints and dry super fast is it possible that the pigments being water based might dry from the water or spirits you used to dilute them will then mix with the oil varnish and in fact become oil paint ?
well ether way the viola looked very beautiful . i would have gone a little harder with the antiquing around the edges just to give it that dark hard boarder lines . but thats just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions lol . hey your the man brother created a master piece im sure whoever will be very proud of it and i hope you are as well .

Graham, I’m curious about your decision to use this shellac polish. Specifically, what convinced you that this product was superior to mixing up your own shellac - which is cheap and easy. Couldn’t you just simply brush on several coats of shellac, sand between the coats, and french polish the last several coats.
I am not challenging your decision. I am just attempting to learn something here.

It was just a time based decision. I had to order the ingredients and make some, or just get the shellac varnish ready made and ready to go....

I have never seen this egg white used as grain sealer before. Kinda blew my mind. But it makes sense knowing how egg dries on things. Thanks for that. And I really like the hand rubbed finishing. I picked it up from repairing grandpa's fiddle. I hand rub my furniture finishing when I make something. I really do best this way. Great video Graham.
