This lick is the ending part of the song ''Scarified''.
In the song he keeps exactly the same note sequence transferred in different positions. Simply awesome!!

Tbf its alot easier than the whole step stretches with the same picking pattern. Took me about 6 months of constantly practicing the "easier" one when i was 14 to get the picking down and once you do have it down it can be applied all over the fretboard in other scales

He's a very good teacher, acknowledging that it's difficult but encouraging you at the same time without showing off. He explains the mechanics of the thing as well.

a tip for anyone learning this, keep doing it at the sort of speed he plays it when he says "lemme slow it right down for you" (or something like that), and try and have some sort of steady beat (metronome, tapping your foot, whatever) that way it makes more sense in your head. or it did for me, hope it helps

The information on how to play is there, I agree with you on that. But remember, the brain can only send impulses to your hands (for the sake of the argument, I will use hands as an example), yet your hands and fingers must be able to receive those impulses and quickly translate them into mechanical movements. For instance reflexes, you may train your brain to react as fast as you want, but your body will be lagging behind if you do not train you body.

Exactly. I too went through the "look at me" phase. Sitting down, using technique to create meaningful songs/melodies is even harder. Especially if you plan to have your own trademark or identity and not just plagiarize.
I have studied so many artists over so many styles and it's quite easy to tell who is copying what. Not many can pull-off a unique identity, e.g. Vai

The "Right" notes, as you put it, is whatever sounds good to you. Theory is math, music is passion. Combine the two to become an "expert" of some sort. As long as it sounds good, it sounds good. there is no changing "good". Paul said it himself on the "terrifying Guitar trip" that even simple things are still the things that sound the best.
