I think SNK is also bringing back Art of Fighting. And Samurai Shodown with rollback netcode and more stuff. See, Capcom? Why don't you do the same? Darkstalkers and Rival Schools could deserve that kind of treatment. I doubt that's gonna happen, though..
King of Fighters, aka SNK Smash Bros. In this Video, Matt finds his best character despite never having played a KoF. He should try a combination of Hwa and Joe next time for maximum shirtless kickboxing action. Small side note: a lot of the Ikari Warriors have moves that reference Japanese _tokusatsu_ shows, Leona in particular has several.
To elaborate in 3v3 you always had different roles. The Point character is your first one: This character needs to have easy-to-use combos, good mix-ups, and be able to put out good damage without a lot of meter while building it up at the same time. Mid is the second. This character should have strong basic supers and be able to deal big damage in case you get behind. In games like Fighterz this is the character you don't mind losing first. Last is the Anchor: Hands down your best character and should be able to not only function by themselves but have a lot of meter to spend. This is where you usually see your meter dependent characters too.
For me personally there are times where 3d animation is preferred in games (like how it allows Mortal Kombat to add battle damage to the models as the fight goes on) but honestly, the limitations of sprite animation means you have more freedom to add extra stuff that you normally wouldn't with more up to date, complicated animation. For instance, in Blazblue, certain matchups like Ragna and Jin start with a couple of seconds long choreographed fight before the characters' intro qwips and I don't see stuff like that being added if the game was 3d animated.
Pretty sure the remaining members of Queen didn’t want to continue after Freddy died, so they didn’t make any more music after that. One of them went on to be a science professor at Oxford or something.
I love how despite making it clear that he's never played a KoF game, Matt instantly finds his version of Mileena/Rain and dominates everyone with it. Absolutely amazing.

@@sonicfan2403 Yeah; I feel ya on that. Stuff like zoning and corner trapping are considered strategies, but holy hell are they an absolute pain in the ass to deal with.

Matt sweeping at a game he's never played? Checks out, also on the topic of Queen. Matt is a bit incorrect about his statement about Queen releasing songs without Freddie. To give a little background Queen was made up of four people, Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon, when Freddie wanted to get into the music scene Brian and Roger were already established within the space, and Freddie went to them in order to form the Band that would be known as Queen, Queen would be the efforts of these four individuals, and fun fact Roger was a bit more well known so early posters would have it that Roger's name would be on the posters whenever Queen was playing, it'd be something like Roger Taylor featuring Queen. To go back though, Queen was the collaboration of these four if one of them wanted to do something solo they would do it under their own name, such as Brian May with his solo album. the only Queen song that was released by the band without Freddie's involvement would be "No one but you (Only the good die young)" if the title doesn't give the hint, this would be the song, their last song, they made after the unfortunate death of Freddie himself, after that Queen would be disbanded official around 1991. There were some recent "Queen" concerts, but it's only Brian and Roger that do the performances with some singer, and they only really sing Queen's songs, nothing original or promoted as a new "Queen" song. John was affected by Freddie's death that he just straight up never returned to music after it happened. So Queen never really released any song without Freddie outside of the final song since by then he had already passed.
I wonder if SGB will touch Granblue Fantasy Vs Rising, it does have a free mode with a limited roster if they don't want to commit to the full purchase. Also, it is quite easy to get into compared to other fighting games as there is two ways to do specials and unique moves. You can either do it traditional directional input style or by holding a shoulder button and pressing a corresponding button + up, down, left, or right. Lastly, despite it being related to the gacha browser game, you don't have to know anything about Granblue to play Vs.
Wait, wait, wait.... Thought Matt said he was a "grabber/thrower in fighting games"? Maybe Elliot calling him a "B*TCH" for doing that did something to his soul, and made him mysteriously good at fighting games, specifically those he's never played..... 🤔

13 got me into the series, thanks to when I played Terry in Smash Bros, and I found Mai hot :P
I also had fun with 14, 15, SNK Heroines, 2001, 2002UM, NeoGeo Battle Coliseum and NeoWave.
The first SNK Smackdown Sunday
So Matt knows how to play HWA being a drunk fighting style.

"Hey you OK?" - Terry
I got so excited when I saw this because King of Fighters is my favorite fighting game series.
Well done Matt for picking up the series for the first time and not only finding a main he likes but winning a full sweep.
Unfortunately this was the last game Hwa Jae was playable. So Matt better switch it up with Joe.
Ash got introduced in 2003, and he's a dude lol
I just noticed this. Matt always does better with Muay Thai fighters in every game. This is like the 3rd Gane, where Matt did well with the Muay Thai fighter. Matt start training in Muay Thai. Life is telling you something.
Edit..... I had no idea that Matt was going to mention that he was a fan of Muay Thai fighters. 😮 Gibes even more credence to me saying, Matt start practicing Muay Thai. Life is telling you something.
WOW!!!! Look, I'm literally commenting this as I'm watching the video. Dude Matt just stated that he wanted to learn Muay Thai. Bruh, at this point. Just listen to what I'm saying and start practicing it. 😂
Matt has never played KOf but DAMN he learned shit fast! Hope to see more SNK fighting games in the future XD
I hope they do KOF XV and next year, City of the Wolves!
@@sonicfan2403 The issue there is that those games are gonna be 60$ and it's a bit of an investment for a game they're gonna play every once in a while on sundays. But yeaht that would be cool to see
I think KOF is the most pick up and play of all of the fighting game franchises, which is definitely a good thing.
Finally!
And it's the 30th anniversary of KOF too.
Never thought you would do this right now, what with the Mario Kart playthrough that's basically multiple Smackdown Sundays.
I remember fighting games;
My last one I ever played was KI 2013 Saga. Those were the days.
Now I'm all rusty & old.
Mai's dahoonkadankaloos. I can't even 😂😂😂
I wouldn't be able to play this game that well for those 2 reasons. 🤣
This is definitely a surprise! Guess you can say this will satisfy my hype for City of the Wolves!
Good lord what a beating Matt dished out, a job well done on his 1st experience.
You can pick flame iori, NESTS kyo and Mr karate by hovering over them and pressing the start button
Anyone else feel like Elliot has been screaming a lot more than usual. He's always made bird noises. But since they came back after hiatus he has been shouting at people or at the game and not just in surprise
One thing I've always admired about snk was their dedication to the actual story of these games. It's no Shakespeare but I think we can agree games like fatal fury and kof have the best stories in fighting games although there isn't exactly much competition.
That's true, they're so silly and over the top that they come off as super charming.
Every kiss begins with consent but consent can be withdrawn after the fact. 🤣 Also, King's design makes me think of Sailor Uranus.
happy 30th anniversary the king of fighters!!! :3
while not my favorite kof and prefer 15's look as the 2d style(do love snk's sprite style alongside capcom's fighters/the cameos of 13 that i do legit miss.) to me had it's time absolutely love snk's series way more than street fighter especially story(alongside capcom's fighters/arc system works the actual absolute best writing & narrative in fighting games period with orochi saga,1st half of nest,spin-off's outside heroines and 15 being my favorite) & definitely characters and enjoyed a lot of 13 just wish it had more characters like previous games in it's saga that got cut to a rather safe roster by the style(another reason i don't miss it).
i started with the nest saga at a laundry with my father and fell in love with the characters from the intro & started following around the beginning of the ash saga and really find snk's history interesting with how much passion they have for their series.
really cool johnny's favorite as she's my favorite alongside mai(fatal fury/early kof outside super's was nowhere near as bad with mai as it's 13 and maximum impact that are the WORST with it/even past that sakurai just screwed up at research as bayonetta's still way more shameless alongside street fighter not being any better tbh especially in 5 and definitely 6's "enthusiasm" with juri as for 13 it was after mai for some reason just disappeared after the ash saga's start.),chris/yashiro/shermie,king,terry,leona,shingo,whip,isla,luong,ash,kyo,dolores,b. jenet, kula, sylvie paula paula, rock howard, vanessa, blue mary & 'angel as i love the art of fighting characters story(mr. karate was blackmailed to kidnap yuri by mr. big/geese for not killing terry's dad with yuri revealing him as her and ryo's father takuma after ryo/robert defeat him.).
If Matt prefers the Muay Thai fighters, imagine if made a team with Joe and King alongside Hwa. He'd be unstoppable and wouldnt know why.
I fucking love KoF. 2002 UM is my all time favorite still. And i agree John. When it shifted to 3d we lost the gorgeous spritework it had.
I've been grinding this game again and suddenly there's an sgb video of it damn
On today's episode: Matt finds his main in King of Fighters and absolutely dominates. Meanwhile, John expects to suck and, all things considered did reasonably well.
I had no idea Matt was such a good hustler
The hell got into Matt that day? Did he finally unlock the Metelli secret technique giving him powers he previously thought were unattainable since they usually manifested when you were young?
On the 30th anniversary of the franchise
16:28 That gentlemen is known as corner trapping. It’s happened to me so much during my online days of Street Fighter 4 to where it’s not even funny. If anyone was half decent with a rush down character then you were eating shit constantly unless you knew how to escape the corner.
I hate those kinds of strategies. I understand that you struggle with learning combos and specials, but if you're just gonna spam instead of trying to learn, then I see that as having no honor in trying to practice.
@@sonicfan2403 Yeah; I feel ya on that. Stuff like zoning and corner trapping are considered strategies, but holy hell are they an absolute pain in the ass to deal with.
Queen didnt realease any songs after freddie mercury died that werent still sung by freddie mercury, which i had to look up.
Very nice one Matt 👍
King of fighters is a game that is niche in america in comparison to south America
King of fighters is so fun tbh. Terry is my absolute favorite character to play as there and I can’t wait to try him out in SF6
Hey look it’s the game with Bodega man in it
This was my first KOF and had good amount of enjoyment with this pushed me to try out 02UM at least.
Did all of Latin America give Matt their spirit energy? Because goddamn, this smackdown belonged to him.
Oh hell yeah, KOF.
8:04 in this case, for starters, Ash's a guy. Second, he was the protagonist of 2003, XI, and XIII... he's also a contender for most divisive character in King of Fighters history.
Damn, I wish I was instantly a master at games I've never played like Matt.
Well, "master" against people who aren't good at the game. If he went up against the actual playerbase he would likely be destroyed xD
Damn, Matt was kicking ass
Never clicked on a video so fast!!!
Fr
*Selects doubt*
24:24 That's Hayato from Kizuna Encounter.
05:00 this can happen to King and Yuri in this game, I'm not sure if it happens to any other character.
Are you okay!? BUSTAH WOLF!!!
Also, if you like Muay Thai characters, Matt, then I recommend King and Joe as well.
This is Ash's last canonical game. He dies in the ending. He gets better. I thinknhis first game was... 03?
Holy shite KoF! I am so happy
Schuppe Dam
Starting to think Matt prefers the rushdown type
Terry looks like a Muscled Pokemon Trainer Red.
Swole Red
That's what the younger Smash fans thought as well. Haha
Muscle packed Homestar Runner
Are you guys excited for terry and mai in sf6? Terry looks so amazing.
Wait, wait, wait....
Thought Matt said he was a "grabber/thrower in fighting games"? Maybe Elliot calling him a "B*TCH" for doing that did something to his soul, and made him mysteriously good at fighting games, specifically those he's never played..... 🤔
this game looks beautiful i may have to try it
KoF XIII. I believe this was the first KoF game I bought.
I have my own nitpicks with this game, but it is a solid entry in the series.
