My brother's started with a lump under his left arm. Quickly followed by abdominal pain and nausea. Losing 60 pounds within 2 and a half months. He was diagnosed on his 19th birthday. He was given a 5% chance of survival. He turned 61 this summer.

I recently found out im diabetic after a finger glucose test, after years ago when i had the symptoms of prediabetes and went to the doctor for it, they said no its probably just dehydration, drink more water, and sent me home. Now my fasting glucose level is 210. I had a lump on my collarbone and he said "its probably a vein" and when I had night sweats he said maybe im stressed cause of covid lock downs. Turns out I had hodgkins lymphoma... im 24 years old. Always listen to your body! I finished chemo and im in remission but im currently doing radiation at the California proton center in San Diego. I switched to a more expensive insurance(blue shield) and I feel the doctors are WAYYY more on top of it. I told one of my pacient she has leukaemia just because of some oral signs: the aspect of the bleeding when I made the incision I had to do for another pathology, the aspect of her skin, and a lot of other signs that I saw. And the diagnosis was confirmed. When the signs are obvious, you don't give three rounds of antibiotics, that's stupid and that happens only in US (I live in Europe). But I'm DDS , Maxilo-Facial Surgeon and you are just a medical student. Hopefully you will study enough to be able to see those signs and symptoms and make a correct diagnosis IN TIME FOR THE PACIENT TO START TREATMENT, NOT AFTER TONES OF UNNECESSARY PILLS. You are a long way, I can tell you that. In this case, the diagnosis was obvious: it could have been Non-hodgkin's or lymphoblastic leukaemia (only the histopatologycal examination is accurate), but it was a blood/lymph cancer. She had enlarged lymph nodes in level 5 region of the neck, for God's sake!!!!!! In my country we biopsy all lymph nodes in superior neck levels. Do you study that at your country's medical school, student??????

Hi. Thank you for your video. I had a cough for 3 months, fatigue, anemia, night sweats, fever, loss of appetite & weight. I worked with my physician, a pulmonologist (he checked my lungs, gave me an inhaler, he checked for all types of allergies & did 3 asthma tests) & a gastroenterologist (I had a colonoscopy & endoscopy & they concluded I had gastritis. I actually did). They kept ordering blood work & tests & I really am grateful for investigative efforts. I just wasnt getting better.
Finally, I walked into my physician’s office just for a follow up. I didnt know I even had a fever (at this point it was normal). She tilted her head & looked at me & asked, “how are you feeling?). I just kind of chuckled & said, “not better”. She was concerned that I was still getting fevers & my hemoglobin levels were still declining even though I had started to incorporate more iron into my diet & taking iron supplements.
“I’m going to order a ct scan”. This was about 1 month from the day I came to see her & presented with my symptoms. So even though this had been dragging on for me, I really did think it was some stupid virus.
When she said the words “ct scan”, it was a little alarming, however, all tests & procedures I had were coming up negative so I just kind blew it off & said ok, of course I’ll go.
6 days later I had my ct scan. 2 hrs later I got the call & heard the words “lymphoma”. I didnt hear anything after that.
An hour later someone called me to schedule a biopsy & an hour after that, I met my oncologist. This was just 5 days ago. I had my biopsy 3 days ago & am waiting for the follow up with my doctor. This has hit us like a ton of bricks. I never get sick. But, cancer does not discriminate. Im dealing with this now.
I will pray that you stay in remission.
We will get through this. 👊🏼

Ran across your video. My husband was treated for Hodgkins disease 37 years ago, at same stage you were diagnosed. He received radiation treatments from his jawline to mid-chest. Sadly, he passed away just 6 months ago due to radiation heart disease from the treatments. Today treatments are better and they know how to avoid the heart getting hit with radiation. Nonetheless, his treatment at the time still gave us many precious years together and two children we might not otherwise have had, so I'm greatful. I do hope you are doing well now and that you have many, many more years of life ahead of you!

America is worried that the wait in the hospital would be crazy and docs/nurses/ techs/etc would be overworked if they go Canada's route. So...how's that doin in Canada? Or your hospital(s)? I was thinking about this last night- the only people who should get paid a lot of money are surgeons since they do actual work to save lives- doctors only diagnose and give treatment orders. I could study diseases and call out a diagnosis (which many docs don't even get right anyway) if I got a book on medical issues to read-the pay for docs is stupid. Don't really think America would have any problem lowering the costs of healthcare IF they could fix the whole 'wait/ overstaffing' fears. Another money grabber is lab tests which I understand since it costs a lot to get the tools for testing, but if people spent money on lab tests instead of flying to the f*ing moon or building useless robotics that do not help anyone(it's surprising how many of those exist), that wouldn't be an issue. We wouldn't even need to go a socialist route like Canada's done(have the gov't pay it all) if morons stopped spending for dumb ass crap in the science department. Seriously, A.I. like Alexa are useless and for a bunch of lazy people who can't write down for memory anymore.

Hey! I have been quite worried recently because I have had a constant swollen lymph node for 3 years and many of the symptoms and risk factors (down to the specific meds I am on) of non-hodgkins lymphoma. I asked my doctor about it once and she said that it was probably because I was sick (ironically with a symptom).
I haven't followed it up yet because I thought that I was being stupid thinking that I might have cancer and getting anxiety over nothing but I am going to see my new doctor to talk about it as soon as I get home.
Thanks for posting this video because it has made me feel like I am not being ridiculous asking about it, even if it turns out that I don't have lymphoma. So happy to hear that everything is going well for you, wishing you the best :)

I also had a constant lymph node enlarged for many many years. It never grew just stayed that irregular size. However I got it "checked" and apparently it was benign. I never got sick or severe symptoms so I'm trusting what they told me. Also I did some hardcore digging myself because I was worried sick, and by the looks of it. The photo of the inside of my "tumor" seemed to look benign so I also calmed my nerves with my own knowledge.

It is scary having a biopsy and waiting for the results. I have another illness which gives you a higher chance of lymphoma, no one knows why. I did ask for a local as I had no one to drive me home. Most of the time my ENT was talking about how he had to get the Christmas party entertainment that year. I spent most of the time giggling. I had to keep turning my as the node would pop out and then go in again. Mt doctor said at the time that it wasn't cancer. I get nervous about feeling like I have a lymph node swelling as I see in my mind all the literature about much of a higher risk you are for lymphoma. I am so glad that you put about not having all the symptoms described in literature you can find. People can look at that and tell themselves well I don't have those symptoms so I must be okay. Texas also has MD Anderson so you really have a great source of help. I would ask at the hospital to speak with a social worker to see if they can help you out with paying for your care. They have sources and information that the regular doctors and nurses don't. I have ACA so I have to be very careful about which doctors I go to. I hope everything goes well for you, it now has such a higher success rate than before.

Certainly she and I had the same situation except th as that I got a fever then my biopsy, bad need tgT felt like death and everyone treated me that way. My boss and everyone wanted to know what was wrong and she starts crying into hysterics.
Long journey in chemo. First two surgeries..the port was word hurt like helll..ugh. but I'm almost done, despite chemo killin me.
Right now looking at this video I want to sell my flea bag useless dog and take this girl's awesome cat to keep me company besides my 24 year old parrot. :D
But cancer us scary as jell. I was l.j ese upset tywin everyone around me. But wgen6tgey get upset. I'd get upset. No insurance also is a NIGHTMARE OF DEBT. Thank goodness f pi r charity care. Everything esp labs and surgery are in the 3,000, 40000 percentile and there are the treatments, following ups...so on..I need to get my lazy but insurance _my job doesn't have health insurance..stupud...

      @lesleysmith1159 6 років тому

I hope you are feeling okay but it sounds like you have been to hell and back. Insurance is a pain, I don't know what I would do without ACA, though you don't have the insurance negotiated rates so you have to pay full. I am not sure how much I owe but it is a lot. The trouble is it is not like a cold where you have it and goes away, it is continual for the rest of your lives. I don't think people always realize that and are pleased you are doing well and think that's the end of it. Then some insurances don't cover preexisting conditions, I met a lady once who had a Downs baby and she had to fight her insurance company to cover him. I didn't know parrots lived that long ! I hope things work out for you, good luck.

Thank you Ally! Your video meant a great deal to me, and certainly has made me feel much better. This is my story: I began coughing up a small quantity of blood about a month ago, and thinking it was bronchitis my primary care physician put me on a five day course of Zithromax, which had no effect and the coughing continued. To make a long story short, this was followed by a chest xray, a CAT scan and finally a PET scan which flashed on lymph nodes located on my underarm, neck, chest and the back of my head. I’m going for my needle biopsy of the axillary lymph node on Monday. At this stage of the game no one wants to hazard a guess but the money seems to be on Lymphoma! I just wanted to say thank you so much for making this video, it was very informative and very helpful! Many blessings and the very best of luck in fighting this!

The whole I can’t go to the doctor because of money, even when a biopsy was suggested shows how the USA needs a universal healthcare system. So, glad from your update that you are in remission. I had a lousy bladder infection and my two appointments to my doctor, blood work and urine tests were all covered because I live in Canada. Not saying Canadian doctors can’t be dismissive or misdiagnosis but at least I don’t hesitate going to the doctor because of a money issue. Every year my doctor calls me to do a blood work and every two or three years ladies, a pap is recommended. All covered. Preventative and early diagnosis is key.

Doctors in the UK make laughable amounts of money. Like between $50k-$100k . You want gov run healthcare? Look at the VA's in America. They run horribly and doctors at VAs are underpaid. Affordability and quantity (universal healthcare) means you are not getting quality. Doctors have less of an incentive to work, often times, they don't have all the equipment necessary to do their jobs and because of these two things, quality suffers.

Any illness lasting longer than 3 weeks, is an obvious sign. But 3 months? Not normal. I empathize with why you took so long. There’s around 56 types of Lymphoma actually. Lymphoma isn’t found in blood tests, it can be found in CT’s sometimes even experienced can be in x-ray. There’s over 500 lymph nodes throughout your body and 0nly a few you can can actually feel. Good thing about lymphoma is this modern time is that stage 4 lymphoma can have similar positive prognosis to stage 2 lymphoma. The reason you may not have had typical symptoms is because there is type A and type B. Blood cancer stays within the lymph node for the most part so that’s why the prognosis is Great. There are also thousands of patient cases where you have lymphoma and the best protocol is to just sit and wait. They call them slow-growing carcinomas or low-grade lymphomas and that can happen with lymphoma. At stage 2A you also should not have had to shave your head. The treatments they provide today at that grade level, almost ensure you won’t lose your hair. That’s not fair to you. To make you feel better, a lot of lymphomas are stages 3-4 by the time they are found. 3-4 means it’s both on the top of your diaphragm and below and potentially outside the lymph nodes.

You’re so strong 💕 I actually had a scare recently where my lymph nodes swelled crazy big after having the flu and pneumonia. And no antibiotics helped. I was so scared mostly because I have a 1 year old.

Not all doctors got A grades. Trust your gut. Sadly, it's hard to get a second opinion when you don't have insurance or money. Americans need to wake up that health care is a right and not a privileged for a select few. BTW - I'm part of the select few, but I grew up poor. I know what it's like to depend on free clinics & sucking it up.

I’m so sorry Ally. I am actually about to go in for surgery to get a lump in my under arm removed. I’ve had it since Christmas of 2018. It was large, extremely painful, hard, and swollen under my arm because I had a cold. Had it for four weeks before I went to see a doctor, who gave me mild antibiotics and said there was basically nothing wrong with me and there was no mass. It was extremely painful. So we went to a non-urgent care doctor who got concerned and immediately put me on some different things and basically the lump went away after a round of antibiotics. Then it came back after a week, and that’s what I have right now. It’s deeper and less painful, but the sonograms show that the main one is 1.2 inches, and there are other ones surrounding it that are larger than normal. The lymph nodes under my left arm are completely normal. No one can really tell me for sure what it is. The general thought is that they are lymph nodes, but I was told at the beginning that it was a phlegmon, but there was no bacterial infection to cause it so that was ruled out after bloodwork. Anyway I’ll find out when they biopsy this thing in my arm after it’s removed. I’m really sorry if this is insensitive but to be honest it feels really good to let it all out right now after hearing something that sounds so similar to what I am experiencing. I hope this doesn’t offend you at all and I think you’re very strong and I thank you for sharing this.
