Agree with you 100%...Dragonlance is THE fantasy world. Ive read Chronicles almost every 2 or 3 years since my teens and never get bored or tired. Thank you for this.
I've been a fan of these books and have read them more times than I can possibly count. I will agree that doing Chronicles then Legends is an incredible self-contained story however if you stop there you'll be cheating yourself horribly. I also like to add a couple of things if I may. Wanderlust comes at an age in a Kender when they realizes that life is short and that every moment should be lived in its fullest, so they go and do just that. The other thing I wanted to add to those who read Soulforge there was a second book called Brothers in Arms which is also incredible. Raistlin being my favorite character I rather enjoyed those two books.
I don’t rate those two books whilst agreeing that Raistlin is an iconic fantasy character. Terry Philips, the person that played Raistlin in the original D&D game that originated the books wrote a fighting fantasy choose your own adventure type book where you play Raistlin going through the Test at the tower which I really enjoyed and found a better back story than The Soulforged.
Thanks for the video ❤ I have been getting back into reading Dragons Lance The Elven Nations I have read the first 2 books in the trilogy just need to read the 3rd one so glad you shared the information so I know how it all began!
I first discovered them playing a 4th edition D&D campaign with some friends in Texas and the DM was using the old 2nd edition modules and books. It was a blast and I found the original trilogy dirt cheap at a used bookstore. Now I want to read the other books!! Thanks for the excellent video friend.
C.W. Hughes Well, there is decreasing quality as the series moves on, but I’d say Chronicles and Legends are a must in any fantasy collection. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
As a teen I read Chronicles, then Legends, then Tales 1, and started into Heroes with Kaz the Minotaur. 30 years later I've started collecting various DL novels I want to read, like the Raistlin novels.
I'm in the middle of the Legends trilogy and I read the Chronicles at the beginning of the year and have enjoyed them. I remember enjoying the War of Souls more than Legends, but it's been a while and I'll see if I change my mind when I reread them.
Agreed! You can see all the lessons learned throughout the years, as the dynamic duo is at the top of their game. War of Souls is hands down, their best work!
Read so many dragonlance🥰 love them all. For me chronicles is the best serie followed by War of souls❤ also big fan of Huma and Kaz.. Rereading dragons of summer flame at the moment
I don't want to seem ignorant, but the Meetings Sextet is a great place to start with introductions of these characters. I read it first, then Chronicles. Pretty seamless actually.
Not at all, I just find that those kind of things are enjoyed better post main story as it may delay the beginning of the main action but a very valid alternative.
A few years ago there was this book trend where readers would leave books in public places for others to pick up and read. The proper practice is to A leave a book in exchange or B return the book that what found. Maybe some reader had been doing that.
There are way more books than that but the reason why the world changes is because of the battle between the creation deities. In the chronicles story some of the characters gained advantages when the presence of their God assisted them. This is apparent in the best battle scene that I know of when the Dragon High Lord fell off the dragon, than he got up and encountered the protagonists. The world changed when one or more of the Gods were exiled from it (into the Abyss). It is a continuously changing world based on these events.
I am very aware of that, I was sticking strictly to the core books written by Weiss and Hickman. I am not sure I could make an argument in favour of the books written by other authors as being part of the series.
@@JosesAmazingWorlds The Lost Chronicles were not mentioned. They were written by the co authors. Way back when I read the first book as a child, that first book of the chronicles trilogy was fairly interesting, than I got lost in book two because the original group gets split up into two groups. Finally the Lost Chronicles trilogy fills in the story gaps in the original chronicles story. Both chronicles trilogies take place in the Age of Despair during the War of the Lance but looking at the Dragonlance timeline this is not a major event. The dragons are thousands of years old so they have survived though the ages but it is more of a story of the sibling Gods who wanted to create order out of chaos and they battle for control of Krynn. Way back I liked the Twins Trilogy better than Chronicles but now I probably do not anymore. I've read Chronicles again and what a great story, it has several complex story plots (at least three huge, huge, story plots). They are great and yes the characters to become important and significant and just looking at one thing, the dragon orbs. It is something that can not be fully explained in only one book as well as what happened because people attempted to use them. They became victims of dragons for example. This wizard called Raistlin he belonged to one of the orders of magic that has it's own administration, he isn't just a lone wolf but there is a lot to know about wizards and their towers of sorcery. There's a lot of story arcs and many more which can not be covered in the Chronicles trilogy.
do you think it is a good idea to read the first two trilogy and stop? Are these 6 books a complete, finished story? I don’t want to go deep into the world.
bahadrakmn Hi. Both trilogies are self contained. Legends came about because Raistlin was by far the most interesting character and they took him on an amazing journey in Legends. You don’t need to have read Chronicles to enjoy Legends first, but it will make a lot more sense if you do. If you are intrigued by this world but don’t want to get in too deep, then yes, Chronicles and then Legends. I sincerely hope you enjoy them as much as I did/do. Let me know how you get on!
I have done reviews up to Dragons of Summer Flame so far. You might disagree with me on some takes as you seem a hardcore Dragonlance reader. Check them out and let me know! Thank you for watching.
Great job, very helpful video I'm about to start reading the Chronicles and the Legends, but i also bought the two books from The Raistlin Chronicles (The Soulforge and Brothers in Arms). Do you suggest to read those two books before the Chronicles or later in the saga (maybe after reading the Legends)?
I find those two books inferior to the main trilogies. Particularly Soulforge for reasons I may one day do a video about. Yes you could do it chronologically, Soulforge, Brothers and then Chronicles etc, but I’d say start with Chronicles, far more enjoyable, then Legends and the those two books. Fact is, those two books are not relevant to Chronicles or Legends, they were written afterwards to expand on the world and background of characters. Leave them for later and let me know how much you enjoyed the series.
Any chance you can post all the books you mentioned in the description above? I learned a lot here but trying to find the reading order again is tough over a 25 minutes video. Thanks!!
