How many of us were waiting until 2:20 to see their reaction to the high notes? :)
YUP!!!!!!!!
All of us!
Second to Phil Collins "In the Air Tonight " for me....
I know I was.
Exactly! Very few singers can actually hit those notes as cleanly and purely as Minnie did!
I love Minnie Ripperton. She was an amazing singer, there is no other like her. I cried when she passed away in 1979 of cancer. She was only 31 years old. The name Maya, that she mentions at the end of the song is her daughter, Maya Rudolph, from Saturday Night Live.
I remember crying too. She was beautiful and her voice was amazing
Did not know she was Maya’s mama. Makes sense to why I have sung that song to my kids for 30 years now. Go figure.(not the making love part though…that’s where I improv the lyrics)
@@melaneedebro2505 yes, she was one of a kind.
@@deeceepnw yes, she also had a son as well. I don't remember his name.
Her "Best of Minnie Ripperton" CD is so amazing!!!! Cut after cut. Wait til you hear that "orgasmic", sensuous, high note in her song "Inside My Love...." ua-cam.com/video/jlgp-jjHzC0/v-deo.html
I never realized she said her daughter's name toward the end of the song. Even more of a gift. Gone too soon.
Where? never heard
I heard it now. Never knew she did that. Thats awesome
I never realized that!
I had not either - bless you for pointing that out - I can hear clearly now (Johnny Nash)
Yes! When I first heard that baby Maya was in the studio with her when she recorded this? Oh my heart. ❤
Me and everyone who knows this song: They’re gonna lose it when she hits ‘the note’
Twins when she hits the note: 😱🥴🤤🤩
😂😂😂😂
Yeap!!!💥😜🤣✔🌟😬🥰
😂😂🎯
For sure
Imagine when/if they hear "Inside My Love"
Fun fact: she is Maya Rudolph's mom!
Maya was in the studio when this was recorded. At the end of the song when it starts to fade out, you can hear Minnie singing "Maya,Maya,Maya".
I knew THAT, but do the twins know Maya Rudolph?
No way! 😸
What? New fact for my grey matter. Thx
No way!? Wow
Every girl in the '70s tried to reach those high notes when singing along. None of us could. 😂🎶🎤
@@Terri.46 l came to say just that!! Lol
My throat STILL hurts!
@@jancw, I just tried again (come on, admit it, we all did), and nope, still can't get there. 😁😁😁
A lot of boys, too. I remember my 17 year old brother and some of his friends trying to do it. They couldn't, even in falsetto, but listening to them try was hilarious.
@@Terri.46 She did inspire her. I've read that in several publications
This song brings the tears. Mostly because she died right after this and her daughter Maya is a huge success.
Perfect Angel was released in 1974, Minnie died July 12, 1979. She released the following albums prior to her death: “Adventures in Paradise” in 1975; “Stay In Love in 1977; and “Minnie” on May 9, 1979. She died a little over a month later.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
She didn’t die “right after this”. Loving You was released in 1974. Minnie died in 1979. There’s a video of her singing Back Down Memory Lane and she is holding her arm “funny” because she couldn’t move it, that was filmed 2 weeks before she passed. Please make sure you are giving correct information. She lived 5 years AFTER her release of Loving You.
@@cherylcooke4308 Thank you. People want to sound so smart yet they don’t do their research and give out incorrect information or they just simply lie.
@@jobuck879 I was ready to reply "not JUST after this", but you got it! Thanks. Still sadly passed far too soon and such a tremendous talent lost. 💔
This was a hit in summer 1975. She had 4 octave range voice, just unique. She died of breast cancer at age of 31 in 1979, leaving 2 children Maya and Marc Rudolph.
Her "Best of Minnie Ripperton" CD is so amazing!!!! Cut after cut......
didn't know that...
how sad. 😥
thank you for sharing. 🥀
Five octave range.
May God Bless Her Children 🙏🙏
I had forgotten how young she died. So glad she left a legacy, but a life cut way too short
I watched Unsung about her life, she made videos of her daughter Maya when she was a small child. This as you know who she was singing about. The very funny and hilarious Maya Rudolph from SNL. She would be so proud of her daughter.
Or Bridesmaids lol
I think she was singing about Maya's FATHER.
When I heard it this time it made me think that the love they made produced her beautiful daughter Maya. You might be just right.
Nobody's been able to duplicate Minnie's high note since
Didn't Know, That Info. Thanks For The Info 👍
Ms. Minnie died so young, but her music has stood the test of time. Now you guys have to listen to Back Down Memory Lane.
Yesssss. My favorite.
@@WSTofKMT yassss! I am very appreciative to my grandparents & mom for making sure I grew up with good music. A lot of people from where I’m from look at me strange because I’m young & know all the good music word for word.
@@justkovi0630 that is a blessing. A real, true blessing.
Yeah...that was her.
She had the whistle register before Mariah Carey...
U GOTTA check out “Here we go” by Minnie Riperton & Peabo Bryson.. beautiful song
Many people can hit notes in the whistle register, few can actually sing there.
If you check out her song "Inside My Love" she hits that note not so "innocently" but like an orgasm in a very steamy song. Minnie could bring it both ways
Exactly 😊😊😊
@@dxwallace55 I Gotta Listen To That One 😮
true. i can hit only one note and i sound like a damn mosquito 😭 truly a pest
Oh she had a voice. So sad she died so young. Her daughter is Maya Rudolph and that is who she is talking about at the end of the song and Maya's godmother is Teena Marie. Nice review guys.
Wait a damn minute- I didn’t know the Teena Marie part!✍🏽
@@chancebrown106 - it is true. Maya's father Richard produced her album Lady T & it was the first album to use her picture on the cover even though it was her 2nd album. Maya is heard on the track Too Many Colors. You take care & have a good weekend 🙂
@@melissa2688 Richard who what's his last name?
@@juliemcdaniel499 Is this a serious question? His last name was Rudolph……like his daughter Maya “Rudolph”.
@@tj2002123 if she's/was married her last name could've been hubby's
“I remember those days”
“What days?”
“Ice cream”
Love it! ❤️
5 octave voice
Near the end when you hear her singing, "Maya, Maya, Maya, Maya", she was referring (at the time) to her baby daughter, Maya Rudolph. She's an actress and comedian. If you Google Maya, her face should be familiar. Great reaction. Much love...❤❤❤
I had never noticed that before
I've never heard Maya mention her mother
Yes - Maya recreated this and the "Adventures in Paradise" album covers for SNL bumpers last year.
How many of ya'll were waiting for their reaction when Minnie hit that high note? Fun fact...Maya Rudolph who was a regular on SNL is her daughter. She paid tribute to her mother when she hosted SNL & did a still shot in the same outfit as this album cover with the melting ice cream cone.
I remember hearing this song as a 3 year old in 74. Earliest memory. I thought she was an angel
This song always makes me tear up. She died so young. 😞
Yup me too
Minnie was my Idol..no one can touch her even in death, the only one close is Denise Williams. I have the last Jet interview before her death..it still hurts that we lost her to breast cancer.
At the end of the song she sings “Maya, Maya”…it references her daughter, actress Maya Rudolph…Minnie died too young, but never forgotten….
She was the first female artist who could hit those high notes. She died way before her times I loved her voice.
Don't forget about Deniece Williams.
@@fyeredfredsr4674 she was way before williams
Not true but she pioneered the whistle in pop music.
This was sung in opera for centuries:
ua-cam.com/video/lJJW0dE5GF0/v-deo.html
@@catherinelynnfraser2001 minnie riperton did have hit songs before denise Williams had hits i don't even have to google that one
OMG this took me right back to my teenage years. When you are just experimenting with falling in love, this simple little song just hit you right in the heart. Maybe even 1976 which was a long hot summer in the UK, just perfect. One of the very first singles I bought. Loved that you boys loved it.
Her "Best of Minnie Ripperton" CD is so amazing!!!! Cut after cut...... If you ever saw the movie "Cadillac Records" about Muddy Watters and starring Beyonce at Etta James, about the famous Chess Records Studio in Chicago, Minnie Ripperton actually recorded at that studio also. I'm from Chicago, I know.....
❤❤❤
@@dxwallace55 I'll Check That Out 👍
Yes that is Ms. Minnie, her vocal range was AMAZING! She left us way too soon in 1979 when I was only 15. I'm glad you all finally reacted to this pure voice.
Yesss❤️❤️❤️❤️
First celebrity that I cried like i lost a family member.... came home from school and my brother told me. Couldn't stop crying.
Her daughter is Maya Rudolph from SNL and tons of movies. Minnie's voice is out of this world. Sadly, Minnie died of cancer at a very young age.
At the end of the song, you hear her say Maya, Maya...
Broke my heart when she passed, couldn’t believe it, played this till the grooves were gone 💛🙋🏽♀️
Isn't that beautiful
@@TheShmoo123 I was sadden too, especially because her kids were so young, I think 12 and 6. Loved her voice and she just seemed like such a sweet person.
She was special. Different. Uniquely gifted. Beyond Talented. Your reaction mirrored the rest of us when we first heard her blow. Angelic. #RIPMinnieRiperton
Minnie Ripperton: a household word meaning a person hitting effortless-sounding high notes! Fun to see you two again.
I wonder if Maya cries Everytime she hears this? It's a beautiful song, I've always loved it but never noticed Maya at the end.
X
Thanks for pointing that out to me, that song now has more meaning to me now.
Same!
Me either, mayb cuz the single played on the radio cut short
If I was Maya I know I would.
HOW DID I KNOW THAT HER FIRST WHISTLE NOTE WAS GONNA SHOCK THE HELL OUT OF YOU GUYS!!!! LOL.. YOU GUYS ARE HILARIOUS !!! BUT KEEP GOIN GUYS LOVE IT!!! 👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽
Don't forget her song Back Down Memory Lane... that was the jam too.
"I stumbled on this photograph, It kinda made me laugh, now I'm slipping fast, back down memory lane...."
All her songs were jamming.
@@dxwallace55 I bought that album when it first came out! It's still one of my favorite albums
My favorite song of hers
@@lucindagoodwin3139 I kinda blew the lyrics in my comment, but only the true fans will catch it....
I love this song for so many reason. When you really dig into it, it's about how passionate the act of love making is but how that can transform into forming a new life, and a next generation. It's a love song to her partner, but also a love song to her child born out of that partnership. It's profound, and sweet, and ultimately tragic, because of the too soon realities of mortality. Imagine Maya Rudolph having such a document about the beginning of her own existence, born out of love and passion and then transformed into her mother's love for her? Mind blowing song.
Now you know why everyone leaves the room when someone says they're going to sing this at karaoke!
😄 😄 that’s funny.
LOL
😂😂😂
I remember in Will & Grace, when Jack "tried" to hit that note..🤣🤣😂😂
You two have not listened to "We are the World"!! This song was sung by several artists as a fundraiser for Africa. This is a beautiful one, please listen soon.
I want to see the reaction to her whistle note. The BEST to do it. I said what I said!!!
Agree!
They didn't disappoint. 👍
Hands down
That high note she hits is called “whistle register” and very few singers have ever been able to go that high. Great old song. How about some more of Linda Ronstadt?
I heard this song when I was a little girl. My mama would say loving me was easy cause I was beautiful. Such an amazing voice. I tear up from the memories. Thanks Minnie for your talent!🥰
I truly love this channel. I love seeing people go out of their comfort zones and to see the left and right brain reaction from each twin fascinates me and brings me true joy
hearing her sing "Maya Maya" at the end is so precious What a gift to her daughter
I love that you two had this song reaction! I'm 55 and used to listen to this song in my teens. Love Minnie Riperton! You kids are pretty awesome 😍

The best "whistle" is Minnie. Ever!
"I love the birds chirping in the back" :-D
Ikr, Ik they was gonna mentioned the birds chipping 🤣. Its funny to me that they really added the birds chirping to set the move🥰
It's been a minute since I heard this song. Thanks for another great reaction young kings.
This came out when I was a senior in high school. Everybody came to school talking about nothing else after it premiered. We were blown away by this extraordinary voice. Gone way too soon.

I remember that, too. There were some rock-and-rollers who maybe mocked it a little just because it was on the radio so much, but there was all-around respect from just about everyone.
That period, from about 1966 to 1974-5, was remarkable for the diversity of new sounds and styles in popular music. Every album that came out sounded nothing like any other album, and that diversity opened the door for acceptance of songs like this into a rocker's world.
I made mix tapes on reel-to-reel then that bounced around between Jimi Hendrix, Jackson Browne, Moody Blues, Earth Wind & Fire, Black Sabbath, Cat Stevens, Faces, Joni Mitchel, etc., so plugging in Minnie Ripperton into that mix was perfectly normal. At least in my world there were fewer people who drew a hard line between pop and rock than I see today.
The great Minnie Riperton. Glad you guys got a chance to listen to her. Her life was short, but she made a great impact in music. She's the mother of the actress/comedian Maya Rudolph. Towards the end of the song, you hear Minnie Rudolph singing " Maya, Maya". She's singing about her daughter Maya.🥰
Ohhhh, I'd forgotten this song... so wonderful to hear her again.💜
I sang this song when I was in the Air Force as part of the airbase talent wide competition back in the 80s. I not only got a standing O but also won first place for female vocalist. Such a simple but complete love song. The Maya she is singing at the end if for her daughter Maya Rudolph who was an infant at the time. I have always loved Minnie and wonder just how far her career would have gone........but God welcomed her home sooner because he was ready for her..........
I'm 57 years old and my mother graduated from Hyde Park high school in Chicago with her.
I haven't thought of that song for decades, but remembered every word. I didn't know she was Maya's mama. Twins, thank you!
One year since the Jolene reaction posted...Congratulations on a Wild Ride!
Gents, thanks so much for finally having a view/listen to that record. What a masterpiece! Yet, more than that, it has clearly been Minnie's gift to humanity. Cheers!
One of the greatest singers of all time ❤️
Finally - I loved this song in the 70’s. Loved your reaction.
Also, Maya Rudolph of Saturday Night Live fame is Minnie's daughter. She's saying her name at the end of the song.
That's true!!
You two are the absolute sweetest.
I was waiting for that high note to hit to see your reactions.... you did not disappoint. 🙂
Teared up at the end of the song when she sang, "Maya, Maya, Maya!" Loved Minnie's voice, such an incredible talent taken from us way too soon.
You guys are funny... I was waiting to see your face when she hit that high note...priceless. ❤
Listen to "Les fleurs" and "inside my love" by her. Two great Songs!

Les Fleurs is one of my absolute favourite favourites🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 So uplifting!
Inside My Love is in a league of its own!
Oh my, what a beautiful song; how amazingly wonderful is Ms Riperton's voice. One in a million! Kudos!💕💯🥰
Guys you're such darlings. I liked this reaction/song a lot start to finish. Never heard it before either. Thanks Tim and Fred. 👍
Yes!!!! GREAT ONE!!! Her voice was so pure and unique; brings tears to my eyes! Bringing me back to my childhood ❤️
She was wonderful.Ghe never got old ...gone.too soon of cancer. Many people do not realize that Maya Rudolph, the comedian, made famous on SNL, is her daughter.
I remember this song when I was a kid growing up in the ‘70s. ❤️
The Cascades do a song called "Listen To The Rhythm Of The Falling Rain" and it's super soothing.
She was one of the great American singers. No Pro Tools, no auto-tune. Just pure gorgeous tone and talent. This is a beautiful song. Love your reaction! Peace and love!
That was one of the smooth classics from the 70's Timothy, I was waiting to see how you would react to those high notes she hit! 😂 It's been awhile since I've heard that one! Good pick!
At the end when she says Maya...that’s her daughter Maya Rudolph, former SNL comedian and actress
Oh gosh, I remember this back in the day. Beautiful Minnie Riperton. It's so sad that she passed so young. Love, this song. Awesome Reaction guys :)!
Songs with real and beautiful lyrics. Such a beautiful soul
You guys need to do "Inside My Love". I had NO idea what that song was about until I was an adult 😊
That's the "OTHER" high note that ain't so innocent, I loved that song. Chante Moore did a great cover, not as good as Minnie, but she nailed it....
Or Les Fleurs. When she enunciates in her whistle register.....🔥 🔥 🔥
My mom used to play this all the time brings back memories!!💜
Lisa Fischer "How Can i Ease The Pain" live in Japan. Or video
Such a pure and beautiful voice. She sounds like a hummingbird.
Beautiful song! Keith said back in High School way before Tim and Fred! I didn't know she passed reading the comments. Our sorrow! Back in the day! Joan and Keith Bates
Love these guys Minnie Ripperton was classic rest in peace
i know twin on the right has felt true love by the way he reacts to this song. So nice to watch you both appreciate her voice and the MOOD this brings!
My sister used to sing this to me to put me to sleep when I was a baby!!!! Shout out to Theda Crutchfield ❤️
I love knowing that this song started off being about her daughter Maya Rudolph. Huge fan of both. Sad she died so young. A true talent.
Williams Kings! Yall are cold for reacting to Icon Minnie Riperton. That Heavenly Choir is out of this world, Minnie is front row in the soprano section. Thank you for another great reaction 👍🏽💖
Fred has the BEST laugh. sometimes it's my FAVORITE part
Omigosh I’ve loved this song since when I started retaining musical knowledge in the late 80s lol. And I’ve always loved maya rudolph knowin she’s minnie’s daughter but never realized she was singing “Maya” at the end! I just assumed it was more of the lovely la la la las! Amazing song.
Was funny when he said i remember those days and he look at him crazy.
I’ve never heard the full song before! She’s amazing. I’m adding this one to my playlist 💜
You should check out" Love on a Two Way Street" by Stacy Lattisaw.
Stacy was my girl who is unfortunately mostly forgotten, she dated Johnny Gill of New Edition for a bit, and they have an album together...
She was beautiful a talented singer who left us too soon, saw her in Chicago in the 70's
Isn't she just wonderful!! and I love her daughter, Maya. RIP Minnie.
One of best voices EVER!!!!!
I hope Maya Rudolph sees this! Tim and Fred do her mother great justice with their reactions 🎶💝🎶 #mayarudolph
You can really feel the emotion in this song! Loved it then, love it now! Thanks for sharing twins!
She passed away way too soon. I'm glad we were able to witness her incredible talent.
I haven't heard this since the 70s and now I can't get it out of my head, and I don't want to. Such diverse artists in the 60s and 70s. Everybody brought a new sound, their sound. Amazing record producers.
Another great voice that left us way too soon. Try listening to another one of her hits "Memory Lane".
I never thought about the birds chirping until now. Lol. Love this reaction.
So glad you enjoyed this song. Its beautiful isnt it.
Perfect Angel was released in 1974, Minnie died July 12, 1979. I had to leave work because I was so upset and crying over her death. She released the following albums prior to her death: “Come to my Garden” in 1970; “Adventures in Paradise” in 1975; “Stay In Love in 1977; and “Minnie” on May 9, 1979 (She died a little over a month later); and “Love Lives Forever” was released posthumously in 1980, It consists of tracks Riperton recorded in 1978 during vocal sessions prior to her death. On “Minnie”, You can hear her voice break while singing “save me, save me” on “Memory Lane”. The cancer had returned, her right arm was paralyzed from the chemo treatment and she was leaving her husband and two small children. Minnie was able to reach 5 octaves above High C when singing. She and her husband Richard Rudolph wrote many of the songs she sang. Listen to “Reasons” and “Every Time He Comes Around” to hear her beautiful voice and the range she could reach.
Twins, y'all hair is lookin' lovely!!
One of the most beautiful love songs ever!!!
I love listening to music I’ve heard before through you guys it’s like I’m hearing it for the first time as well ❤️
I always loved this song. I'm in my 60's. When it first came out, people played it loudly, out of their windows. It was THE Summer hit. 👍🏼
Other fun facts: Minnie Riperton’s husband produced Teena Marie’s album Lady T! Also, Teena Marie is Maya Rudolph’s godmother!
Just wanted to see their reactions to the high pitch!! Lol!
I waiting that too. Priceless!
HOW IS THIS THE FIRST TIME???????? Y'all really never heard those legendary whistle notes????
I put this song on a few moments ago for my 21 year old. Sad to say, he never heard this song before either. I have to do better. They listen to ALL music but I missed this one. This album hung on the wall in my parents living room. With the plastic on the couch 😂😂😂 I believe them that they never heard it. 😁
Because they’re young and grew up in gospel roots
First time on the channel? 😉
@@arnettabosby5100 Lmao. Those plastic cover slips cause so much noise. I hated them.
Please listen and react to Tony Joe White doing Polk Salad Annie. He was a great musician from Louisiana that did Swamp Music. Listen to it if you do not know what that is. It is fantastic.
Just a simple, straight on song about lovin' someone. Think of lying in nice grass, staring at the sky, the birds are chirping in the trees, the weather is perfect that day---so is the love.
