I love Minnie Riperton. She may not have been in a lot of pain. She may have had access to adequate amounts of opioid pain relievers which are very effective and very safe and can usually control the pain without knocking you out. Unfortunately politics and economic warfare and propaganda that creates a climate of fear around opioids, and makes physicians fearful about prescribing them, these days people often do not get adequate pain relief.

+Jessica Williams Wow, you can really see Maya in her mother's eyes, expressions. What a sweet, sweet lady to be able to sit through an interview and sing and not break down knowing she had only a few weeks to live. She was so beautiful but I read that she had extreme lymphedema in her right arm which they tried to disguise with her outfits. I can't believe she could do this when so close to death. She had to be in pain. What a magnificent, brave lady.
Today she could've went to the cancer treatment of America hospital and they've saved her life because they got all the technology that they didn't have in the 1970's and she would've been alive today making her a survivor.

I'm always apprehensive and undecided when I'm about to hear Minnie's music. On one hand, she has one of the most beautiful voices I've heard in my life. On the other, listening to her reminds me of her illness and struggle, It just hurts too much.
I love Minnie Riperton's music, and even though the world lost her before I was born, I celebrate her music, and listen to something by her nearly every day. The one song that I can't do that with is "Return to Forever". I believe it was the last song that she ever recorded and, though in my opinion it contains her best vocals, I find myself dissolving into tears on those rare occasions, when I've been brave enough to listen to it.
This was less than a month before she passed, if you pay attention to this video and the performances, you'll see that her right arm never moved and was in a fixed position. The cancer spread to her arm. Truly a great singer! I love her and can appreciate her music even though I'm barely 20, RIP Minnie.
This aired (6/15/79) almost a month before Minnie passed away, on 7/12/79. Minnie was a very special woman and singer, her voice was angelic and her heart like pure gold. I miss Minnie. Michael Jackson did background vocals on one of her songs called, "Im in love again" which Mike produced & wrote, for Minnie. The song was on Minnie's album entitled: Love lives forever. RIP, Mrs. RIPERTON & Mr. JACKSON. 💖😇👍
The fact that not only was she in such horrible pain due to her rapidly advancing terminal cancer, yet she still performed and did interviews with such grace and ease.. *BUT* she also devoted the last few years of her life to being a breast cancer advocate and spokesperson for the American Cancer Society is mind-blowing. What an amazing human being...they just don't make them like Minnie anymore.
If anybody knows anything about what cancer can do then know one day the patient can be lively and dealing with it, then the very next day sometimes a couple of hours comatose! I hate that demon for a disease

Back when radiation didn't make you lose your dignity. ...my mother died from the same type of cancer. ..she refused chemo...and died with dignity not looking horrible and feeling horrible.
So beautiful, had an arm covered because of lymphedema and dying from cancer. Such a lovely voice. I lived in the UK back then and bought her early album. Still have it nothing to play it on now. Lol
I'm a classic rock guy, but have deep respect for this lady. I'm old enough to remember when Loving You was a hit, and when she died. Sad for us but happy for Minnie as she's spending eternity wrapped in the love of the Lord Jesus Christ and all of her loved ones who've passed.
She remained calm and gracious while knowing she was fighting a losing battle. We should be thankful that medicine has come a long way since she had to endure that fight. She was well beyond her years and such a peaceful kind soul.
Somehow this is the first time I've seen her speak. What a lovely (and talented and warm) woman she was. I wish she could have stayed with us, and her family, longer. :'(
You see that She cannot move her Right Arm.....and try to hide it as best she can ... she was so in pain at this time and still managed to do live show and interview ... God Bless her

It amazes me how she's doing this interview during such a scary time in life and she has a beautiful personality such a pleasant interview RIP Minnie
Truly incredible when you have such a brave way of appearing publicly and yet knowing there is absolutely no hope for you. I never got to know this lovely woman, but yet I feel close to her. I don't know why. Maybe because I lost both my parents in 2018 and they passed away with pride and bravery, too. I know how it feels to loose somebody very close to you. So yes, R.I.P. dear Minnie! You won't be forgotten.
Man, when I listen to this briliant woman, she brings a huge smile to my face, and at the same time I feel so sad for the fact that she had such a brief life. She passed away in the year I was born. I know it's crazy, but I gotta say, it's too demanding sometimes. Wish you could come from the clouds and sing to us, right at this time...
Rest in peace, Minnie.
She passed away in the same year of another sad passing, decades later------Aaliyah
Today they would Photoshop the lion.
Yep, you wouldn't even need him in the same room, just a little video editing would have done the trick.
And cgi the vid
Today it would be a virtual interview lol
CGI
such a beautiful soul
Damn, I'd never seen her talk before.
She was so pleasant and elegant and effortlessly graceful. True beauty and true talent.
R.I.P Minnie.
Minnie's personality was totally captivating. Her humbleness & that sweet lil' midwestern accent. She was so cute.
What a Beautiful Soul She was truly a angel
wow sobeautiful and what a voice!
Such a shame this gifted lady with the voice of an angel passed away so fast :(
Chante Moore has the whistle register , she pays wonderful homage to Minnie as does Miki Howard to Billie Holiday
What a beautiful human being so refreshing for an artist. She has no ego at all and very down to earth. Amazing vocal ability and wonderful loving human being rip 💜
Wow this is my first time hearing her speaking voice! Beautiful voice
She has the most beautiful soul
Back when radiation didn't make you lose your dignity. ...my mother died from the same type of cancer. ..she refused chemo...and died with dignity not looking horrible and feeling horrible.
Nothing is undignified about trying chemo, if its one of the options offered.
So beautiful, had an arm covered because of lymphedema and dying from cancer. Such a lovely voice. I lived in the UK back then and bought her early album. Still have it nothing to play it on now. Lol
RIH she seemed to be such a lovely person🙌🏾👌🏾🙏🏾
I'm a classic rock guy, but have deep respect for this lady. I'm old enough to remember when Loving You was a hit, and when she died. Sad for us but happy for Minnie as she's spending eternity wrapped in the love of the Lord Jesus Christ and all of her loved ones who've passed.
a beautiful soul the perfect angel......her music is played so much at my home I will always love her.
Gosh-- even her talking voice is beautiful.
i agree, both are soft spoken and have warm, natural personalities
She remained calm and gracious while knowing she was fighting a losing battle. We should be thankful that medicine has come a long way since she had to endure that fight. She was well beyond her years and such a peaceful kind soul.
Somehow this is the first time I've seen her speak. What a lovely (and talented and warm) woman she was. I wish she could have stayed with us, and her family, longer. :'(
You see that She cannot move her Right Arm.....and try to hide it as best she can ... she was so in pain at this time and still managed to do live show and interview ... God Bless her
She would have made a terrific and iconic Disney princess. Her speaking voice is just as angelic as her singing voice. 😍😍😍😍🥰
Amazing she looks so well there, yet she died the same year. RIP X
yup died weeks this was recorded.
Minnie was so very beautiful! It is extremely hard to believe that she had just less than a month to live from the date of this appearance. God rest her beautiful soul!
She died about a month later. Way too young. Such a beautiful woman, such an awesome talent.
I love her so much...I was a little girl and I knew music and she was my favorite sanger of all times..I cried and cried when she passed. It hurt me so bad. I love you Minnie always and forever.
"The Lion just wanted to play" (*hee hee*) She was just too cute!!!!
