I give credit the ‘07 film managed to update the material, but I still find it a lesser adaptation compared to the 1954 film. The ‘79 film is pretty bonkers, but it took on the radiation fears of the time and was creative in its approach. The ‘07 version should’ve also stuck to the original ending that made Matheson’s novel so poignant; it does exist on home media as the alternated ending

I'll have a video coming out later (hopefully tomorrow) sharing my thoughts on the Heston version. it is a bit bonkers but it is my favorite of the three movies

@@WhytheBookWins that sounds like fun! I prefer the ‘54 cause my mom made a Vincent Price fan ☺️

@@LucyLioness100 You know, I've got a soft spot for the three of them. Mainly because each one has a connection to the book. But I get ya.

The book wins hands down. I'm surprised why Hollywood doesn't just make a straight up adaptation; I guess it just doesn't have enough "blockbuster action and excitement" to make money in their view. But then again, the book was never really just about post-apocalyptic survival against a world of vampires, but an allegory about loneliness and what it does to people.
It's also got existential themes, in which Neville is defined by his actions and reactions to a world he didn't want to live in. I guess that's the real reason why he didn't leave when he was warned they were coming for him. He'd already become the monster they all feared and hated, and he even cried when his nemesis and former neighbor Ben was killed by the new vampires. I thought that was really powerful, and sad.
Great review. I hated all the movie adaptations. They never did the book justice because they just focused on the superficial aspects instead of the core message.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! The book is so good and yeah, the adaptations just didn't do it justice. Especially the Will Smith version which I really disliked

Will smith is working on the sequel for their version of “I Am Legend” featuring Micheal B Jordan.

Great upload guys. Great hearing your views on all things related. A few thoughts.. RE: Richard talking about the Bob Marley scene - I didn't really feel it was out of character. Sure, he's hardened by the current situation, but I saw it as a moment we all have. A song can bring ya back to thoughts you had years ago. Especially since his mental health was a bit off, he probably just went into auto pilot and just talked about what he normally would have said years before when talking about Bob Marely (I could be wrong, and usually am.. but that's what I felt about that scene). RE: Sam's death - Dogs or animals dying in flicks.. if it's handled right, it will make the overall film work (Or a specific scene). I think, I mean for me ... I felt they did a great job here. and oh.. RE: THE BOOK - I've always loved how he saw them jumping off the building thinking they could fly. Or, that they screamed out when a cross was put in their face. And Richard wondered why. That there had to be some people of Jewish faith, and so they wouldn't put any weight into its meaning, There's a lot of fantastic moments of Richard thinking about the virus and its effects.

yeah that's true about him going back to his previous thoughts about the world in that Bob Marley scene. and the dog death is handled well here compared to other movies, but I still think the dog storyline could have been better done. The book was fascinating the way the virus was discussed! So interesting

yeah i think the reason everyone picked I am legend with Will Smith is because of Sam thr German Shepard. We were all crying when (spoiler warning) Sam had to be put down.

1:01:54 I think the way Americans esp vote would have to disagree with u there. In the states there's clear data that shows that most non Caucasians vote democrat while most Caucasians vote Republican. Should race be political no but in the states esp it absolutely is.

Hi David- I was speaking quickly and “race shouldn’t be political” would have been a better way to say it, because I agree a lot of things become politicized that shouldn’t be.
