Such a beautiful episode. Emotional, poignant. Just stunning. Unfortunately, our microphone was malfunctioning the for the whole reaction and the proper sound was unusable (of all episodes right!). We apologise for the echoey quality of the sound as was had to use the secondary sound picked up by our phone mic. We did the best to improve the sound quality and we weren't going to skip such an important episode. Thank you all for the support and understanding. Hope you enjoy.
During the flashbacks when dream has the long hair, I can't stop seeing tom Sturridge as severus snape in a possible tv show remake?
I always wanted the representative for the job of DEATH is to be like Her, a Friendly Face with Kind Words in the Last moment of an ending life. The DEATH shouldn't be something a painful or a miserable experience to everyone.
What if the ALMIGHTY starts an experiment for the Damned who might get offered with a punishment to serve as an ASSISTANT of DEATH till they Understand/Learn the TRUE meaning of Morality, Ethics, Humanity, Kindness and Care?
Don't you think....
If one aspect of Life can have the Seven Endless known as DEATH, DREAM, DESPAIR, DESTINY, DESIRE, DELIRIUM & DESTRUCTION.
Then there must be other aspect to the life known as 7 Endless for Good KARMA like what I've mentioned earlier such as Curiosity, Humanity, Morality, Kindness, Ethics, Care, Creativity and Peace. These are also a part of Life.
The moment of Death saying "all they need is a kind word and friendly face, like they had in the beginning" and panning to the mother greeting the baby with the friendly baby voice...
I dont know many other moments from any show that's hit me harder than that. Perfection, melancholy and sad, but hopeful and comforting too. 😭
@@Squeekysquid Much like Death in Pratchett's Discworld, I believe Gaiman's Death in Sandman can be summarized with "this is who I'd like to see in the end". Not cruel, not arrogant, not cold, and not just doing a job. She's doing a job, but she's always being good to people while she's at it.
Death is the sweetest big sister. I had no idea I’d she would be so light hearted and personable. ❤️
Neil Gaiman has said he wrote "the kind of Death I would want to meet when my time comes." and apparently most agree with him.
Neil confirmed in an interview that Jenna Coleman is playing two different characters, one the descendant of the other. Casting the same actress for both meant he could use Jenna more which is never a bad thing :D
According to other sources the blonde male John Constantine is stuck in rights issues since he's being used in one superhero series and is also optioned for another in deveopment.
Using Jenna coleman for both roles cut out out some casting hassles and a lot of legal problems.
@@voiceofraisin3778 Joanna Constantine actually featured more in The Sandman comics than John Constantine did. A lot more.
@@noneofyourbeeswax01 That is true, but I think you have to admit that Matt Ryan is perfect as John Constantine. So it is slightly upsetting he couldn't be in The Sandman, yet I still believe Jenna Coleman did a fine job herself.
@@officialnoonon He is indeed perfect. Which is also why I'm glad modern-day Joanna isn't just a swapped version of him, but a somewhat distinct character, even if she has a lot in common.
have watched many reaction and i must say the best dialog is "i hated every second for the last 80 years." "so do you want to die?" "are you crazy! Death is a Mug`s game. I have so much to live for." even at the rockest of bottom he never give up living. i some how admire this determination to live after 400 years and hating every second of the last 80.
This was by far my favorite episode of already fabulous show. The juxtaposition of the concept of Death against the idea of eternal life by pairing that story with the Hob Gadling story was just a stroke of genius by Gaiman and the crew. I would've never thought to pair these two stories in one episode like they did. Just unbelievable television.
It's interesting to note how the story of Hob Gadling connects to so many of Dream's other experiences. For instance, when Hob shows him the portrait of his wife and son, it reminds Dream for a moment of Calliope and Orpheus, the wife and child he also lost. And how Hob - no matter how bad his life got, how much he lost - still wanted to go on living. Hob is the personification of hope, and what kills hope? Nothing.
Probably nothing, but he is sort of an eternal now.
I'm sure "hope" starts with a "de-" in some language.
@@tyrant-den884 'Determination'?
8:15 I like Dream looking at the portrait of the violinist with his orchestra because Dream would’ve known him from his dreams and been aware of his aspirations and the beauty of his music.
"He turned into noel fielding." Goddamnit, i cant unsee it now 😂 all i hear now is high-pitched richmond noises
The way the show combined both of these issues for this episode shows what the creators are going to be able to do with the rest of this story
This is my new go-to example of how to do a proper adaptation.
Episode 6 is simply the most brilliant, the most beautiful of all. The beginning with Death, what a beautiful sibling story when she teaches him how important people are to him. And then Hob, how beautiful when he learns at the end that you can love people too.
The ending scene with desire just gives me goosebumps everytime and that music omg
Well , it easy for her to see it as a gift , because she knows for certain that existence continues. For us it's an unkown. Me personally , I will be over joyed to find out I continue to exist afterwards as long as I don't get eternally punished for not believing in a unsubstantiated book written by bronze age theologists.
This without a doubt is my favourit episode. Great reaction guys. Keep up the awsome
Beautiful episode. Love the position in the series, about halfway, that establishes the kinds of connections - Dream in particular - the Endless have to humanity, and how they develop/change as people in their own right. Ending with Dream making a point of seeking Hob out for a belated appointment is a very neat choice for the show’s narrative focus on humanity, Dream, and the interactions between the two.
Amazing episode right after 24/7 another amazing episode. Thanks, guys.
This is just what I was looking for for this episode. You fine folks articulated my feelings very well and I ugly man cried a couple times during the sibling talk and the besties reunion moments. Subscribed, your empathy is as wonderful as your analysis and reacton ;)
Dream’s hair must grow very slowly since his hair was the same the entire 105 years he was imprisoned.
His appearance tends to depend on who ever is watching him so if his captors didn't expect him to change then he would have kept looking the same.
I imagine that William Shakespeare wasn't as popular in his own time as he is in modern day.
He was popular later in his life, but in 1589 he would have been just starting out (and his first play is indeed a bit poor). But the fact that people bothered to collect and print his complete works shows that he was rated by the time he died; most plays from that period have been completely lost.
The other cool touch in that scene is the guy he’s talking to; Christopher Marlowe, one of the few writers of the period who came close to Shakespeare. The actor and his costume are really great matches for the only surviving (possible) portrait of Marlowe.
A lot of people are pointing at Episode 5 being the best of the season and although it is a great episode, I personally I prefer this one. Oh and loving the child (Grogu) peeking out from the display cabinet behind them
I love reactions to shows like this where people are actually familiar with the comics and and know what there talking about. I feel like I'm just watching a show with 2 cool human beings and 2 fellow DC comic fans. Great reaction hope to see your Sandman S2 reactions.
My favorite episode 😍
Amazing episode!!
I was not excpecting the amazing Richmond impression, "i was a dream, then i got into cradle of filth" - i almost spit out my drink laughing lmao
My favourite episode. Broke me.
Sorry I took so long to subscribe.
Love you guys. Gday from Perth.
I've watched several reactions, the first part of this makes me tear up every time. Probably my favorite issue of the comic.
And while I had some reservations about Kirby Howell-Baptiste, she won me over and I like her depiction even more than the original; there's some kind of depth and hint of mature sadness she brings that really brings the character home.
Death as a gift is a thing talked about by Tolkien in LOTR. Death was something built into humans by design and they were relieved of attachment to the earth, and embark on a journey to somewhere else. Presumably there's some other kind of transformation in this universe, a journey to "the sunless lands".
@5:50 - Big shout out for Hammersmith Bridge yo! _"We live by the riverrr!"_
I'd like to go like Harry. A smiling face and just a little bit of time to get ready.
I LOVE your reaction! it mirrored my own so well :D this is THE best episode from the series.
LMAO RICHMOND!!!!
A part of me wish to see the second part as a separate episode. It's different from the comic, because Dream made to the meeting in that one, as escaped from at the 80s. Would be nice to see Hobb struggling for keep this inn, specially for only that may never see his friend again.
If thats Death then i'm ret to go. damn it she's gorgeous.
I said this before but I like to imagine if Robert had discovered that his friend of hundreds of years had been imprisoned by a mortal at the bottom of a castle and put on display. What sort of wrath would he have brought upon someone who had enslaved his best friend of millennia. I honestly have trouble imagining the rage that that sort of connection would inspire. I would like to see that story arc though.
distracted by Nightwing in the background 😭
The best ep.
This episode was gutwrenching and funny. I would go mad living for centuries but doing death's job that's very difficult.
Because you think with human perspective and the Death portrayed in this show also has the humain perspective side of thing. When in reality the real death doesn't care because he is not human and don't see the world like Human when the death of this show does
I noted Death saying “I know” (that she was the target of the summoning and imprisonment the took Dream) So for those who know…. What did Death actually know and when did she know it? What did she do or not do, and why?
These two actors have the best sibling energy, it's nuts.
What I love most about the comic version is that they explain how she got over the feeling of hating her job. Once every hundred years she becomes human and lives for a single day and then takes herself. It gave her a new outlook on her job.
O Hope they adapt that story
I believe it was in this story line that this episode was based on. I haven't read it since the beginning of this year. The Sandman is one of my favorite graphic novels of all time.
This was in a deleted scene of this episode. Neil Gaiman shared it on his social media
"The New Inn" is actually a real pub. I went to the twitter on the chalkboard expecting a movie-tie in thing, and it turns out they're a real place that production just filmed at!
I love that!
Man I’m glad I’m not the only one who cried a bunch in this episode lol
Pretty much every reacter I've seen react to this show crys at this episode. So you definitely weren't alone in that!!
An old man died, a newlywed died, and *a baby died.* Anyone who doesn't get emotional over it is heartless.
this is devastatating...stunning...fantastic
The baby got me
I'm glad I was alone when this episode autoplayed while I worked from home. Had to take the first break a lil early that day for sure! haha😅
Such a beautiful adaptation of two wonderful comics, they dovetailed them into each other so well. A rumination on death and eternal life and the things that matter.
It’s amusing how she says to him “you’re moping, it’s not like you”
Really, moping is the most Dream thing he could do, he is remarkably mopey.
@@Ashamanic I think he's -broody-, not mopey - he doesn't usually just sit around and sulk, he still actually goes and does things and does his job, just with the gothboy tortured soul expression
@@MrSquare I don’t know, I think brooding is what people call moping when they want to seem sexy
Ah, this episode!!! Watched it 3 times and I still get emotional every time, even knowing what happens in the books. I'm also so impressed with the subtlety of Tom's performance! Sometimes it's just a tiny change in his eyes, or the corner of his mouth, or the pause in his voice. Hypnotic :)
This along with ep 4 are my favorite episodes. Its storytelling is just so good and literally an emotional rollercoaster :D also, Desire's threshold is so cool looking. everything's amazingly well-done.
Death and Dream are sooo sweet together.😭
Absurdly good portrayal of siblings.
The real power for me in this episode is that it is just him talking to two different people, His interactions with others are brief.
This is just two people talking and it is riveting.
Great reactions! easily my favorite episode of the entire series! I was in my feelings the entire first half lol it was such a masterfully beautiful way to interpret death and Kirby Howell-Baptiste was perfection as Death!!!
This episode was so amazing. You can see the growth in Dream through those experiences.
"Oh god, they're going with the comic on this one," and other very relatable sentences.
Death: "In the end, each of us stands alone."
Literally everyone who's died: "But we didn't. You were there."
At the end of the 2nd storyline in this ep, when Dream says "friend", I was like literally like "awwwwww… bless". It's just super wholesome!
Such a wholesome episode. Such a great palette cleanser after the ultra-intense Episode 5
Its sooo Calmingly beautiful. dont really know any other way to put it. i mean honestly if you were to meet Death you would want it to be someone who would be like a friend who just sits and listens
1389... He would do a very good version of a young Severus Snape
This was my favorite episode as well, heartwarming, gut wrenching, tears and all. Dream learning so much from Death as they go along. I loved the ending when he finds Hob finally and freely admits they were in fact friends. Showing Dreams growth even more. You guys held it together better than me. After the baby's scene I had to go compose myself. Damn you Neil you fantastic writer you. 👏 💗💀
this episode is BEAUTIFUL, my second favorite next to episode four
Yeah, as soon as she said "Soon" I was like, aww... oh.....ohhhhh.... oh no, I'm gunna be sad all episode. It was a beautiful episode, Hob especially, I felt so bad when Dream "snubbed" him for Will. And him always waiting for Dream.
You guys are by far the best couple and the most enjoyable people to watch a video with. Only wish I knew you in person. Keep up the great work.
I am so glad they exercised restraint with the infant death and sparing us the reaction of the mother.
Definitely. Felt so much more powerful hearing her off camera focusing on Dream
@@FandomZone yeah. All we heard was the initial confusion. We didn't need the inevitable scream of loss.
I find myself suspecting that Dream told everyone in the Dreamng to easy on her when she slept next. (And maybe Sam's wife will hear numbers whispered to in a dream).
Perhaps my favorite episode of the season, and that's saying a lot given most of them are great.
This episode is the best hour of tv I’ve ever seen. The 2 storylines, the acting, the music. Just perfect!
i knooooowwwwww righttttttt 💜💜💜💜💜💜
Hard to argue with you there as I can't think of one better. That or my mind isn't letting me right now :P
Maybe our purpose is our function too, get enough food, get shelter and if we do it together we'll enjoy it more and do it better
I do prefer comic death just for style ,they kinda dropped the ball on giving the actress the same kind of cool clothing or makeup they give dream, they just gave her the necklace. Kinda wish theyd done a different take of deaths iconic chairs line, the delivery was pretty awkward and besides the violinist they didn't show as much of the dying peoples last thoughts and feelings with death listening as they did in the comics. The dc animated showcase is probably my favorite non comic incarnation of her. Now the dying violinist scene was perfect and so was the baby.
Because you enjoyed this particular episode so much (I did too), perhaps you might be interested in a similar concept. A show named _To Your Eternity_ is about an immortal being that at first doesn't know what hunger is, so it dies, doesn't know what life entails, so it lives off instinct and so on.
The first episode made me cry... a lot, which is rare. It is honestly a brilliant story brought to life by an equally fantastic author who wrote A Silent Voice.
Ok, so I'm never going to be able to see or hear Dream in this series without Noel Fielding lurking in the back of my mind at every turn. I hope you're happy.
He start the episode alone and he end the episode siting with a friend
What and amazing episode
Me encanta sus reacciones, un gran saludo para ustedes chicos desde Argentina 🇦🇷
def my favorite episode of the season. def needed after ep 5 lol..
"They fear the sunless lands, and yet..."
Dream said in beginning when Constantine name was said to him...he said he met one 300 years ago and here it showed how..and I guess he gave the Nightmare which he took later on in the prev episodes. This was one of the best episode.
React to the DC Showcase "Death" it's a 19mins I guess short animated story about death...it's so good 🖤
Not the point, but will you guys watch Dead Boy Detectives? It's a spin-off of The Sandman and The Endless make a few appearances in the show
Youre right, Dream does look like Noel's Richmond character in that wig. Hilarious!
The second hslf of this episode is from my favourite and in my view the best Sandman episode - Men of Good Fortune.
Thx for yours reactions :)
I love you guys, greetings from Brazil.
Love watching you guys. Kindred soft-hearted spirits are we, I cry when you cry then I cry harder cuz youre crying. And watching you mirror each others reactions reminds me of my partner of 10 years. And you have insightful commentary afterwards! Pinnacle of react channels.
It's hard to believe but death really is a gift sometimes.
A person with late stage dimenia who can't remember their own children or grandchildren, a 7year old with stage 4 terminal aggressive cancer with no chemo or radiology response where treatment would be more painful than staying home, a 94 year old woman who has to be watched 24/7 for a heart condition.
A 32year old who drove drunk crashed his car and killed 3 people but ended up in a coma for 7 years and his family can't afford to pay for life support anymore. (And even if he ever wakes up he will have to serve another 25+ years in prison for multiple manslaughter).
Death truly is a gift for those who need it at the appropriate time.
Suicide is not.
If death is a wife, suicide is extreme marital abuse
Desire hates Dream because everyone can dream of their desire yet not create it. Most cannot turn their dream desire into reality and Desire hates that!
Good reaction...my fav episode by far
Great Richmond impersonation
15:48 lol 😂
ok this seems like an awesome channel and my kind of people😁glad ive found you 💜
The fruit vendor giving Death the apple for free is just like in "Death: The High Cost of Living." When she spends her day as a mortal and people kept giving her things, even a cab ride.
I love thus episode, I love the emotional stuff with stuff but also love seeing dream costumes throughout the ages and his friendship with Hob. I remember laughing at Dream different hairstyles as i read the comic.
Your Noel Fielding impersonation is eerily accurate
I knew his 1300's self reminded me of someone! Bloody Richmond! 😂
Makes you hope for an adaptation of "The Nearness of You".
this was my favorite episode
15:46 Awwww two puppies...
Soo Good
Why was death killing those people can someone explain?
The people were dying, she wasn't _causing_ their death except in a metaphysical sense. She's with basically everyone who dies.
What do you mean about the metaphysical sense?
@@robbyvernon1764 Their bodies are already dead, but she takes their consciousness/essences/souls to whatever is next for them.
My one gripe is I wish that they would have given modern Johanna a alternate name like Joan or made do a role reversal and made john the ancestor.
Gaiman intended the modern Constantine to be Joanna - which doesn't help when listening, but does make it easier to write about them - a few Hellblazer fans have expressed the wish that they'd gone with Gemma.
