You know Gregory's the best boy when the guy who invented murder offers his own life instead.
🥺💜
He was a very good boy. 🥺
@@lolitahansen1682 It's okay we have Girving now
@@supernovaskies5044
You mean Goldie right?(I'm tryna save you)
@@averagegamer1422 i know i just thought girving was funny
To Claroos: in the comics, when Morpheus is getting revenge on Alex, he specifically says that the Endless experience time the same way humans do. So if it's been 105 years for Morpheus, it's been 105 years in the Dreaming without him. And Nerdy, that's all Tom's voice. In an interview with Tom and Niel, they said the first day on set, Niel had to tell him "stop talking like Batman" because he started with a deep whisper 😂
Neil growled at him to stop lol as Tom puts it
Glad I'm not the only person who was left sobbing after Gregory😭 The changes they've made are great, dishing out shocks to everyone who read the comic without breaking the characters. I love it!
I've never read the comics, didn't know what to expect, but I nearly cried after Gregory was absorbed :(
Gotta say, this series turned out to be A LOT better than i expected. I'm 5 episodes in and really captivated! I wish all adaptations could have this level of quality and adaptation accuracy at the same time.
IT GETS BETTER. Insane, but true.
Him taking Gregory has so much more emotional weight than him just absorbing the castle. I know this was your idea Neil. You made me cry!
I honestly think distancing (at least this version of) Sandman from the DC universe is a good idea. It allows the story to stand on its own, and I feel Sandman works best in a world that mirrors the one we live in.
Yes so much so
This show rules! This is a perfect comic adaptation. While changing things to suit contemporary requirements it is still pretty accurate to the comics.
So pretty much the opposite of what sacrelige
Amazon did with Wheel of Time
Well, having the original writer in charge of production will do that.
@@YugSihtTsuj or at least immunize the show a bit from inflexible fans
I really liked Dream collecting the items to summon the Kindly Ones as well, that’s one of those things that are so much better for film than on the page.
Done correctly this show should always feel different from episode to episode because the comic is different from issue to issue.
Kindly, indeed.
Did the show emotionally manipulate me into crying about a fake dragon that I only saw on screen for a few minutes? yes but not mad about it
gargoyle*
"You have served this kingdom with great honor. You will be missed." One of my most favorite lines. Ever.
19:46 "So, this version of it ... by connecting Ethel to the Burgess family, and having the ruby passed down through her, it allows you to get rid of the Justice League stuff, and streamline the story in a way that really makes sense ..."
Ethel Dee nee Cripps was Roderick Burgess' lover in the comic - she and another lover stole the ruby and the helm from Roderick before fleeing to America, trading the helm for the amulet of protection. The change was the answers that the Fates gave, directing Dream to Ethel and John Dee instead of sending him to the Justice League, who are keeping the ruby in a storehouse. I would have loved to see Mr. Miricle and Martian Manhunter, but I can understand why those characters were cut out.
Claroos: "If people die, whatever. I don't care."
I'll be looking forward to seeing your reaction to a few episodes from now when we meet Morpheus's sister. This episode made me tear up, but that one had me crying 😭. I'll be interested to see if your prediction holds up 😄
So... I've never read the comics and I listened to maybe the first hour of the audio book, I basically went into this show completely blind and completely fell in love with it, the characters, the story, everything. And to see someone who has actually read the comics and is a fan react to this show in the way you have has been a real joy. I've read and heard this is one of the best comic book to tv adaptions yet.
Claroos was actually right with the time comment. They do experience time differently. It was eons for them. A long long time, while at the same time knowing it's a century.
“As long as it’s not Dragons. Or Gargoyles. If people die, whatever.” Yup, that’s the sort of person you want with you in the Dreaming!
"I love that she is not wet, that is so cool" out of context that's a whole different kind of thing.
I love hearing the actor talk about how hard it was to find his voice for Morpheus
"Dont try to be Batman" lmao
The best episodes are yet to come. The rest of this show is beautifully told. Can't wait for more. Great reactions!
I was a huge fan of the comics when they came out (yes, I’m old) and it’s kind of amazing how much more affecting the scene with Gregory is than the comics. On one level, it’s a CGI construct that we see on screen for like 10 seconds total and has utterly no lines. And on another level, it’s watching a close friend die. It could have been such a throwaway scene - in the comics, it is a throwaway scene, insofar as Gaiman writes throwaway scenes (which isn’t much). But in the series, it’s a huge gut-punch. It also says something that by far the two most affecting death scenes we’ve had so far have both been dreams (Jessamee and Gregory).
But Gregory didn't die in the books. Cain and Abel's conscription papers were what he created and took to bring the Fates.
@@shannonbutler-williams7261 Commission papers. Conscription means something else entirely. And he didn’t take them - he destroyed them and absorbed the power he put into them, just as he did Gregory in the show. It’s a direct substitution, but it’s much, much, much more affecting in the show than in the comics.
10:11 its a tiny detail but i love how when he open his coat you can see that kinda galaxy inside, fantastic detail.
I marathoned all 10 episodes yesterday, and am now in the Watch All The Reacts! phase of when I love a thing. New subscriber, because the two of you have such a fun dynamic.
Welcome aboard the crazy train! lol
On the subject of Sandman's voice; Tom Sturridge portrayed Henry the VI in the titular episode of a TV series of Shakespeare adaptations called "The Hollow Crown" and that is his real voice.
Great series!
This is Tom's voice! in interviews, his voice and laugh is a bit higher than the deep tones of Morpheus.
It hurts so sweetly.
They made you love Gregory so much, and then they take him away so well.
In the first issue of the comic when he gets out of his prison, Dream tells Alex Burgess that the Endless experience time exactly the same way humans do. So he literally sat in that sphere saying nothing for 80 (or 100) years.
I also thought episode 2 didn’t feel like much happened, and in general the show’s pacing is unusual. I could imagine it feeling slow for someone who hasn’t read the comics, but I also think it’s a nice change from most tv shows which are usually structured in very similar ways.
And I agree about Lucienne, the dynamic between her and Dream is a lot clearer than in the comic and really entertaining to watch.
I need to finally say it. This is how I wish wheel of time hit. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the wheel of time adaptation. But it didn’t hit like this is for Sandman fans.
It is absolutely ok to say the The Wheel of Time was absolute shit, and Robert Jordan would be rolling in his grave had he seen the travesty they put out.
We should demand and receive quality in our shows, not the cow droppings Rafe Judkins and similar writers put out.
@@williamegan6756 I meant it. I enjoyed the wheel of time show. I just don’t thing it lived up to what it could be. So no, I won’t say that. The cast was excellent, I actually think some of the writing was decent (and some of it was questionable), I think the effects were hit or miss... I do think the tone was not dark enough. The first season should feel like horror. And they missed that mark. I think the mystery box was a mistake. And the ending was a shit show. But they did capture the characters. And I enjoyed the Tar Valon plot change.
@@Ulriquinho I wish you joy then. For myself, as a deep lover of the books, and as someone who has been waiting for WoT to be adapted since my childhood.... the Amazon series was an absolute disgrace.
The cast is mostly great yes, but that doesn’t help them when the dialogue, plot decisions and story pacing are all so awful I fear most middle schoolers could have done a better, and more faithful job.
@@williamegan6756 it’s also absolutely okay to allow other people to enjoy what they enjoy. You didn’t like it, we get it. We also don’t care.
@@RubyMineshaft ??? Did you read my last reply? That is exactly what I said. Why point out the obvious, unless it was just to make that mean (and stupid) dig about everybody not caring? Grow up.
I'm told that DC had this old horror/mystery comic series where this Cain and Abel were narrators. They would tell you one story an issue and at the end Cain would always kill Abel somehow. I understand that Neil Gaiman added them to the early issues of Sandman much later as a sort homage or something. Pay attention to how they welcome Dream and guess what the title(s) of the comic was.
FYI. I'm also told that the Sandman cover designer came out of retirement just to design the end credits of this show.
I've been waiting for this, watched them all yesterday. Did u see the clip of Neil Gaiman talk about I can't remember his name so I'm gonna go with "Morpheus" voice? It's worth a watch, pretty funny.
No but I will go find it! Thanks for watching!

Goldie plays a more significant part in _The Dreaming_ - a series related to The Sandman.
I like how the end credit animation is unique and tied to each episode.
I've read all of Sandman and my BF has seen nothing about this until I turned on the episode today. It was enthralling. We were so upset when we had to go to bed after 5 episodes straight 🤣 Bloody work.
Hahaha So awesome you get to share that though!
Ethel is still connected to Burgess in the comics, but John is her son via someone else. So he still got the Ruby from her but he more obviously alters it to become his comic book villain persona.
I’m relieved that I was’t the only one who lost it during the Gregory scene. I’m offended that the show made me feel things only two episodes in!
“It doesn’t feel convoluted in the comics”
It was a little convoluted man 😂
I cried too. Then I went and brushed my cats and played with them while telling them how much I love them.
Incredible! Joely Richardson as Ethel … I’ve seen her the last time in Nip/Tuck - hundreds years ago :D with her mother the wonderful Vanessa Redgrave!
I’ve never read the Comics, but still following you’re WOT-Journey :) still ahead in book 8 :P
A lot of love from Germany

agreed on the needle-threading. They did a phenomenal job, and they did a great job updating it to be relevant/compelling to the present, and in casting to the role, rather than the appearance. I never expected it to be good, and I love just about every change they've made. I NEVER expected THAT.
I'm adoring your reaction to this story! I've been a fan of this comic for years and it's just a treat. Keep it going!
I'm rewatching these while I do (another) Sandman rewatch, because I really enjoyed both of your reactions, and I have to say - Claroos, that is a proper sized mug! Where would one get something similar, please?
Keep up the great content!
Just started this show...and then stumbled on your channel...and because of that I found a great companion to the main show.... thank you
One of the things I loved doing, was reading the sandman with voices, like doing my own.
Sandbag sounds exactly what I thought he would sound like, and I'm flabbergasted.
The Corinthian's mannerisms and look reminds me so much of Bruce Willis in "The Jackal" . just that cold, methodical way in everything. Plus the hair and glasses which Bruce Willis' "Jackal" uses in the last half of the movie.
Ethyl was always connected to the Burgess family in the comics. Her reason wasn't because Roderick was insisting that she have an abortion, it was that the second-in-command of the order basically ran off with a load of money, artifacts, and the Magus' mistress, Ethyl. He's the one that traded the helm for protection against the Magus' magical retribution, and eventually, Ethyl stole _his_ belongings. So, the chain of 'ownership' is consistent between the show and the comics, at least.
Interestingly the Cain and Able who live in the Houses of Secrets and Mysteries with Gregory and Goldie are, themselves, DC comics characters. Just... obscure enough of ones, and so closely tied in with the Sandman comics that they weren't really able to be extricated from the show. Unlike Martian Manhunter and the demon Etrigan, they just don't tonally clash with the Sandman universe, they're that well integrated.
Technically, Gregory isn't a gargoyle. He's a grotesque.
Gargoyles are what they would call the spouts coming out of the roof tops. In the olden days, they would decorate the spouts as a grotesque ( demon like creatures), so it's a common misconception that the demon / dragon creatures are gargoyles.
When I read Sandman, my library had these MASSIVE volumes with them.
CGI modeling team knowing FULL WELL what they were doing animating Gregory's eyes and expressions: MUAHAHAHA~!!!
😭😭😭 Did we all cut onions at the same time? This was such a sad episode for me.
the damn music 🥺😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭💜
Justice for Gregory! But really, what a great episode, considering how short it was. I can't wait to watch the rest of the season reactions.
I knew I loved you guys for more than wheel of time.. as a former comicbook artist.. Neil Gaiman's Sandman was uniquely original and I am here for this new way of telling the story of Dream !
they reacted to wot? hardly anybody else did. have to look that up...
oh, they discussed the actual books. guess nobody watched that show. 😄
Gregory... 😭😭😭💔
Love from the philippines!!
Yoooo, sending love back from Canada!
Such good writing and acting and directing. To make you feel sooo sad for a cgi character after only knowing it for like 5 mins. It takes real artistry to pull those genuine emotions out like that Yes I cried. 😛
My only inkling of the Sandman comics was after going down a rabbithole following the Lucifer show (which I also love even though it's quite its own thing, separate from its inspiration). Virtually zero knowledge beyond some images I barely remember, and its title.
And... I *ADORE* this show. Absolutely LOVE it. One of my tops now and favorites and fantastic storytelling, though I suppose that only makes sense for something so focused on dreams ;]
I have since been down a new rabbithole for the Sandman comics, and learned a lot that's amazing, and a lot that's made me very sad. Regardless, incredible show from a non-comic reader who went in blind. Episode 6 is hands down my favorite.
This one hit hard in the feels 💜
I sobbed as well. RIP Gregory 🙏
Whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!?!?!?!?!?!?
- Got to love it, when reactors answer their own questions. 😈
Those women reminded me of those three women from Hercules but they're in all the books about each movie cause they can see everything and you ask them questions about the future abd stuff and they cut the string to end people lives but in the nooks I think they Saud they're the ones that made each villian turn into the villian they were. They were working behind the scenes to make everything happen lol
Because they are the same. They are the Fates. They are the Norns. They are the Kindly Ones. The Maiden, Mother, and Crone from so many mythologies.
The justice league stuff always took me out of the story. I don't miss it.
I think the sacrifice of Greggory was also done IMO to emphasize the otherness and power of Morpheus.
I am SO happy someone else cried during the second fucking episode. Love this show
When I listened to the audio books, I was hoping that there would be a reference to Elvira, Mistress of Darkness, living in The House of Mystery during the DC comics run ... until Cain threw her out.
This is SOOOO GOOD well done I was so worried I was WRONG!
Actually John Dee is a DC Character He was Called Doctor Destiny and a Foe of the Justice League Dark and Morpheus.
So is it going to be one a day with yall? If so then I know which day of the week I’m looking forward to the most.
Hey just wondering - I'm enjoying the reactions while we wait for season two but do you ever plan on reacting to the Dead Boy Detectives adaptation? Because it's in the same universe and has several Endless cameos in there.
the ruby followed the same path in the comics. Ethel was Roderick's wife or lover or something, and she robbed him and left, just like in the show, and she gave the ruby to John. the only difference there is they omitted the references to the Justice League in the show
Not really, the butler steals the things and runs away with Ethel. I had never put together that that was John Dees mom though which was new to me here!
@@NerdyNightly yes, i thought about mentioning that Ethel runs away *with* Sykes in the comics, but then my comment ended up longer than i wanted so i left it out, but yeah, they omitted Sykes's involvement, but Ethel's role is still the same. she's with Roderick, then Sykes, then leaves and robs him too, leading to his death without the protection of the amulet, and John inherits the ruby. she's the old lady who visits Arkham.
just checked the comic, btw, the way it describes her is "the magus's mistress"
@@seratoxin3825 100% I had just never put it together. Apparently they confirmed that Burgess was Johns Father in the Audio drama of all things
@@NerdyNightly oh, i don't think John is Roderick's son in the comics. certainly not explicitly. they left because of a "schism" in the Order, there was no mention of pregnancy. i was just saying the ruby had basically the same path of Dream->Roderick->Ethel->John
i just flipped thru the issue again tho, and noticed for the first time that you can see Sykes admiring a framed photo of Ethel in the background of an early page, foreshadowing them getting together. so many little hints and foreshadowing bits in this series
@@seratoxin3825 Yeah he is in the comics too. It's been confirmed. It's just that this show does a really good job of adding a lot of info in between the panels so there are a lot of things we notice now that are explicitly stated here and were only nuances in the comic. Believe it or not, me, a gay man, never noticed Alex was meant to be gay **facepalm**, and after seeing this series I went back and was like, "Oh... It's pretty obvious now..." lol. It's nice that the comic doesn't spell everything out, but if we blinked we missed something xD
“It’s a Closed Caption TV” 😂 (I think u meant closed circuit)
Them: Gregory is cute. Awww
Me: 😐😬😬😬😬😬
I think the reason they cut out DC wasn't about not being able to use characters, but because people would think it's part of the larger DC verse
Which I understand.
But still
You two look like magnum pi meets lord of the rings elf lol. Pretty Hawaii shirt. Pretty elvish hair lol.
The title say Claroos cried but she wasn't the only one, it seems...
No gag reflex, shawty new something about that 😏
I want to cuddle the baby dragon
Did someone else felt that episode 5 was 4 hours long and not 45 minutes?
Eipsode 1-4 were awesome, but I would rather watch a snail crossing a four-lane highway than watch episode 5 again.
Honestly what I loved with Gregory moment was the fact.. Idk maybe I'm reaching but I felt that it actually really Hurt Morpheus to have to do that.
I've noticed that, the lead does A LOT of acting heavy lifting.
2 episodes with 2 animal deaths ( kinda). The animal death isn't what gets me. THE thing that hurts me is how painful those felt for the lead.
I mean lets be real Jessamy was just a bird. A clever bird but just a bird.
However the look from Dream when she splatted in front of his face & right after.
Dear God did that resonate agony
I'm hoping that Matt Ryan reprises his role as John Constatine, but they recast Lucifer (using Gwendoline Christie instead of Tom Ellis, from the TV show), so I don't have much hope.
Lucifer isnt a recast. That show is nothing like its comic and Lucifer is nothing like The Sandman version.
@@jeringatai3156 It's based on the same premise as season 2 of The Sandman.
SPOILER
Lucifer leaves hell. In the show, he leaves the devils in charge, while in The Sandman, he kicks everyone out and gives the keys to Morpheus.
He'll yeah smackdown that like button lol
I wasn't happy when dragon puppy was killed. I was even less happy when Dream didn't even give the Fates the egg. What was the point of killing him then?!
oh my gosh i love you guys :D
Never read the comic, so I’m more like Claroos on this. So far I love it!

they should have left batman in, but have him also played by tom sturridge
I don't want to be "That Guy". But it seems that the young lady is not wear a top over her under garment.

We will have 1 episode up every day until they're all up! Episode 3 will be up tomorrow morning!
Hi hi
Hey!
The hell is that outfit? Put a shirt on
I thought Dream's interaction with the three in one rather stupid for an endless being. The fact that he had to be told multiple times you can only have one question is stupid. Dream is clearly an intelligent being and could ask better questions.
Any question he asked would be twisted if the Hecate wished. Too specific a question and his answer might be so specific it wasn’t useful. So, direct.
There's rules to these things usually. There's also the fact that he's basically a fraction infinitely smaller than his true self.
I think he could have asked the secondary questions internally and it would have been fine with me. I get that he had to be careful with his words because he knew that they were going to be careful with theirs, it's just that he goes into great depth and knowing their methods and then goes and breaks the rules. In theory the fates could have answered his secondary question as the second question and he wouldn't have any clue where his third thing was.
I don't see him as having a fraction of his power meaning that he also has a fraction of his brain. He seems aptly thinking.
@@Gammagreen him asking the secondary questions was just for a bit of spice really too me. The point I made about fraction of his power was about how it resulted in him having fractions of his means aswell. Like how the second he got his sand back most of his problems were solved and he could like do shit...
I guess, but the dialogue was 1-1 identical to the text in the comics.
everybody in this show are gay
pretty annoying, looks like there are no heterosexuals left on the series
Okay.
