    We graduated 52 out of 75., October 1957….our graduation was tropicals standing waiting for the Trailways busses to take us to Camp Geiger, NC for combat training. Our Senior DI, S/Sgt. E. T. Kendrick as each of us got on the bus pronounced us men! Best thing that happened to me, outside of Jesus as my Lord and Savior. We entered MCRD Parris Island on 24 June 1957, as Platoon 165 / 3rd Battalion / Quonset Huts. Semper Fi, to all in Marine Green. 👍🙏🇺🇸

    Whenever I watch these Graduation videos from either MCRD Paris Island or MCRD San Diego, I am overwhelmed with emotion knowing that I too once graduated Marine Corps Boot Camp, January 27th, 1984. I am sure that the Corps is in good hands with all of the new Marines that have come along over the years. It has been 37 years since I left the Depot, but I can still hear my Senior Drill Instructor dismissing us, it was a welcome order but it was also an intimidating one at the same time, you were then on your own for the first time in 13 weeks and it was a bit unnerving to say the least.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but the WW II generation marines, and for marines decades after that, never were required to wear (because it had to be purchased and tailored) the full dress blue uniform. In other words it was not issued to them, or used for graduations. When did that change?

    It rained the day (Dec 21 1983) I graduated from boot camp. We had our graduation inside at WRTC. We didn't have a band, the mascot or get dress blues. Because it was so close to Christmas my family did not come to my graduation. I had a friend who lived close to Parris Island and she came to my graduation. After we went out to eat and I spent the night at her home. She drove me to the airport in Savannah the next day. While waiting for my flight I went to an airport bar to get a drink and there sat one of my drill instructors. She invited me to her table and we had a beer together before my flight was departing. So weird to see her as a normal person after yelling at me during boot camp.

      In the photo Don Knotts was wearing the Marine Corps khaki's and Drill Instructor Smokey w/ Eagle Globe and Anchor.

    Nice that everyone earns their dress blues upon completion of recruit training. I am going to go all boomer on everyone. Back in my day, March of 1987 only the squad leaders, guide-on bearer were awarded their dress blues, the rest if us were forced to purchase them on our own, if we so desired. The Drill Instructors look odd with their black sword belts and olive drab covers mixed with the dress blue uniform. It is a good - odd though...
    I can say, I am still walking today because of my time on MCRD Parris Island. I ended up being there for nearly 6 months. Long story short, I came within hours of losing my left foot because of a flesh eating bacteria infected a tiny blister on my heel. I ended up staying and rehabilitating with the "Fat Body" platoon for almost 3 months. I knew if I had taken the "rehab and re-enlisting" option I would have taken a civilian job back at Ramstein Air Base and stayed if my foot rehabbed well enough. I NEEDED the regimen I knew I would only get by staying and busting my butt to heal AND grow stronger then before. I now have a disease that has taken all muscular and nerve reaction below my waist, yet I am still able to walk without any aids or devices. I credit those 6 months with giving me the intestinal fortitude to make it through anything and also to know that MY pain is NEVER as bad ad countless men and women all around this planet...
    SEMPER FIDELIS & a HUGE OOH-RAH!!!

I graduated a Private first class so I got my stripe on my greens but had to buy my blues in Okinawa Japan on my own..we graduated on Halloween day and they could not make up their mind if it was winter or summer greens so they had us get the summer ready then when they changed their minds they made it look like it was our fault and had us dig rose gardens in our graduation uniforms, then get out the winter stuff and get it ready to graduate in. How did those women and children make out in Tokyo, Berlin, Nagoya, Hamburg: killed by the hundreds of thousands, put in harm's way by their own tyrants.
      And there's nothing magical about guerrilla warfare. It's just war on the cheap against weak-willed, post WWII U.S. infiltrated since FDR with sympathizers with everything but America, esp communism.
      The guerrilla myth grew entirely out of Vietnam and by fighting "police actions," we allow these bloody nonsensical, treasonous outcomes to become self- fulfilled prophecies. Older I get, more wearisome it is to see people buying off on the myth. Vietnam was lost because we never ATTACKED N. Vietnam. We never landed on their shore or crosses the 17th parallel to take what meant something to them. Instead, we stayed in the south and allowed their communist bosses, watching the campuses and news reports here, to drag things out in the south on their own time schedule. We marched around in circles for over a dozen years, got tired and came home. Sell out by LBJ and his leftists, just like Korea (and it doesn't take guerrilla war for communists to sell you out; just sympathizers in key places).

    • @taoliu3949
      @taoliu3949 2 роки тому

      Dress Blues is actually two words. Dress uniforms are the most formal uniforms in the military, equivalent to civilian strollers or morning suits. The German equivalent would be the old Gesellschaftanzug or Paradeuniform that's no longer worn.
      Blues refers to the color of the uniform. This is opposed to Reds, which is worn by bands, and the Whites which was retired in the 1980s. There is a Blue-White variant that is still in use, but is only authorized for SNCOs and Officers.

      @@davidwarner3326 David, the main point is, the Corp has adapted the Political Correctness model. The inclusion of anyone, anything, and all. This model isn't the hallmark of a Marine nor the Marine Corp. A Marine should represent the FEW. We had to earn our title. With all the changes, which have lowered the standards of training and institutional existence, the Marine Corp has become something of a joke and something that I am ashamed of; just as many other Marine Corp veterans are. So, let me be clear, I am not placing emphasis on the OLD CORP - NEW CORP conversation. I'm targeting the ridiculous direction and acceptance of degradation into the, at one time, greatest Military force in the world.
