This is one of the most realest videos I have seen. I grew up poor, I hated that people looked down on my family. I started a business, made a success of it (at high school). Still not happy. Maybe I worked too hard? I took 18 months out to travel the world. Amazing... but got home feel into serious depression. Maybe I need a degree? I got accepted to do my MBA without an undergrad (on entrepreneurial merit). Felt great, but I felt unhappy after it was over. Maybe a big house, a Jaguar E-type, etc etc... Now, I bought a 2 bed apartment, I have a corporate job, a daily routine - my life is boring as hell. And I have never been happier. I go gym each day at lunch (a short walk), I see friends every weekend, and live super simple. I eat healthy, no parties. People laugh how I went from wanting 'it all' to the way I live now... I would say, try a simple life.

The ADHD thing is very true. My dad had a similar learning defect as a kid and he told me that when he was a kid it was an embarrassment for his parents to put him on it. Because then people thought the kids just wanted attention.
I guess sometimes the answer is really straightforward. An example is that sometimes people get really mad and argue. But all they have to do to stop arguing is knowing that everyone is brought up in different families despite living in an overall similar society. Knowing that makes it so much easier to understand why people don’t agree with each other. But I guess people don’t really think that through because it feels much better to win an argument sadly.

Chris Williamson says this often: "We give up what we want for the thing that's supposed to get it". I think it's really easy to fall into the trap of always wanting more things and better things because we implicitly assume they will make us happy, instead of allowing ourselves to be made happy by simple joys present in our everyday lives. I also highly recommend looking up the parable of the Mexican fisherman, very inspiring. Another banger of a video, Cole! Your stuff is God-tier, keep it up brother.
I used to like Chris until I realized he's even more shallow than the people he talks about. I would be cautious taking advice from a club promoter turned to podcaster who sells Health supplements and energy drinks... caveat emptor❤
I live in a mixed economic neighborhood with new million dollar remodel homes right next to older homes. The folks who have more wealth, the Range Rover, all seem more miserable than the working class folks who have families running around outside and enjoy the simple things in life, like having cookouts in the neighborhood. It seems like you have two options on how you want to live presented to you from your own backyard
The 'experts' are being outpaced by reality, think for yourself. Reflecting on an echo chamber produces feedback, step aside and dance your own groove. Killing time is self defense. -a boomer
And if that thing you're drawn towards has negative downsides ? For example I love boxing and striking but have stopped because consistently getting hit in the head and occasional minor concussions stack up. and being smart is also important to me (success in school and also general intelligence)
Over watching your videos, I have realized that you have been keep going back and forth in a spectrum which has the 2 opposite ends. In one end of this spectrum lies living life with reason, and in the other end lies living life with emotions. Basicly, what I am trying to tell is that you are in a constant gravity field of attraction from trusting your gut or trusting your mind. This battle of these two main sides which you have been documenting creates a fundamental question to life: How to manage the reason and the emotion to have a satisfactory life? I believe Marcus Aurelius's had a great answer to this. His answer was about creating a perfectly balanced middle in the spectrum that i was mentioning where you can draw the most benefit from.
You can't tell a 15-year-old kid to 'smell the plants' and expect that to make him happy because they are at different times of their lives and thus value different things. Old people value simplicity because of the limitations of their bodies, the time they have left, the lessons they have learned, or all three combined. Wisdom cannot be taught; it has to be earned. The old and wise obtained their wisdom by being young and foolish. Therefore, I'd never take advice from an 80-year-old because I'm precisely not an 80-year-old, and I still have my lessons to learn and battles to fight. Perhaps smelling flowers becomes the most important thing to me when I'm older, but right now, as a 40-year-old, I still have other things I need to do. That said, I'm sure I'll start sounding like an 80-year-old if I was diagnosed with terminal cancer tomorrow. Life is NOT simple at all ages, even though it tends towards simplicity as we age. Young people are insecure and uncertain of themselves, which is entirely normal. Older people are secure and have seen and done it all. It's just time. Just keep taking your next breath and walking your next step. With any luck, the flowers in your garden suddenly feel profound and meaningful.
@@whois3581why does this upset knowing they had an advantage? All of this is well documented and can be measured. For starters look at the marriage rates and divorce rates. I disagree! For you Cole, the old people advice of "Life is simple" won't definitely help you speak even the most basic Japanese sentences because it requires large amounts of brain power to understand the patterns behind the language! Besides, in my case, for instance, improving my mental health starts with grasping the hidden consistent sneaky self talk that shapes each aspect of my life! My example is now I know why I am always tired at noon and it's because "I pressure myself to do a lot in a certain amount of time". I would never be aware of that thought if I didn't question my beliefs which is mentally challenging! Yes, I can agree that comlicated life causes anxiety but for us gen Zs to be told to "just live your life" is not a practical advice! Comlicated problems require complicated solutions.
The old rule of KISS keep it simple, stupid. Simple answer that isn't so simple to implement. But that might be me overcomplicating and overthinking things.
People always think their generation is special and that all the previous generations were so much simpler. At the end of the day, all generations face 90% of the same things (love, betrayal, work, progress, kids, loss, etc.)
Thank you! I constantly over think and worry about everything, including the past and future, but never the present. Im depressed, but i dont take medication for depression, because i know there is a reason why. This video helped me understand just a bit more that reason why.

That cowboys Father died last year and his Mother is still alive. I don't think hes as old as he appears. Smoking has that effect and if he drinks, worse again🍷
Just because they are old, doesn't mean they are smart. remember that. trust your own freaking wisdom! instead of always going to an external source!!!!!!!!!!!

We are more likely to trust the advice from someone older for a simple reason, anybody can read advice but you have to live it and try it on for a while in order to know if that's good advice. That only comes through time, wisdom takes time. Of course that does not mean that just because a person is older they are wise, there are many factors at play. But I think one of the biggest problems is people thinking they need to make a bunch of money to be happy. It's absurd. Money only brings more insecurity. If you cannot be happy with nothing you'll never be happy with material goods. Thems fax

0:25 bro!! Thank you!! I had completely forgotten his channel name, I was thinking of his videos the other day. Appreciate it Cole ❤
Yeah his videos are great
Lol me too. I was recommended a video ages ago and haven't been able to find the channel again
And if that thing you're drawn towards has negative downsides ? For example I love boxing and striking but have stopped because consistently getting hit in the head and occasional minor concussions stack up. and being smart is also important to me (success in school and also general intelligence)

@@ColeHastings what dimension?
It's always the most materialistic who tell us to not focus on material pleasures. Even this dude is an example of that
Cole is so perty 🥰
Yeah, I think using your gut when most relevant and your mind when most relevant is key
As always Quality Content

You missed the whole point of the video
That was just a simplified example as to the whole message
At 40 you should be focused on going to bed before 9pm
The Boomers lived life on easy mode. All you literally had to do was just show up and you had a wife with a job and a house lined up for you.
Basically
Such a dumb take. But keep playing the victim. I'm sure it'll work out great for you.
@@whois3581 it’s true though
@@whois3581why does this upset knowing they had an advantage? All of this is well documented and can be measured. For starters look at the marriage rates and divorce rates. How many boomers grew up with 2 parents vs kids today? Look at the cost of living and rent prices on relationship to the wages? Why could a school teacher provide for a wife and 2 kids on a single salary while owning a home where a school teacher today not provide rent and groceries. in almost e every metric the boomers had it better off. It's a reality quit denying it..
@@romans5875 It's become so popular to cry about the boomers yet you people never want to talk about any other generation. You never want to talk about all the modern conveniences you people are addicted to and waste your money on. You act like they all just had it so easy and never had to work for anything, than none of the boomers ever struggled or sacrificed for anything, they just all grew up rich on easy mode. You're like a bunch of little kids crossing your arms and pouting in the corner because the other kid in class has a better toy. Get over it and be thankful you didn't grow up in other periods of time that were much worse. Bunch of entitle spoiled little brats, overweight and crying that you want more with your constant victimhood mentality keeping you in your hole.
I agree with you. I’m not sure you interpreted the video correctly
@@ColeHastings yeah, I'm a very ambitious person.
honestly, best advice there is, is to watch this video. Less is more!
"In character, in manner, in style, in all things, the supreme excellence is simplicity."
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
I was born in 1949 . It was mostly simple, but I had a very strict teacher in the 6th grade and learning to write cursive was hard !
"Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated". -Confucius
Much is obvious & some is attainable if you have the means but in my not so humble opinion... it's subjective, case by case.
The old rule of KISS keep it simple, stupid. Simple answer that isn't so simple to implement. But that might be me overcomplicating and overthinking things.
People think there weren't anything distracting back then.
Old people advice is THE BEST
People always think their generation is special and that all the previous generations were so much simpler.
At the end of the day, all generations face 90% of the same things (love, betrayal, work, progress, kids, loss, etc.)
Their advice is very accurate to this day!
Thank you! I constantly over think and worry about everything, including the past and future, but never the present. Im depressed, but i dont take medication for depression, because i know there is a reason why. This video helped me understand just a bit more that reason why.
I figured this out somewhere between 29 and a few months after 30 because of turning 30 and i love my job now. I set goals and I'm sticking to them, and I'm bettering myself
It was very different for them they have no idea what kind of world we live in. They are just saying the same old things that dont work anymore, they are too old to see that.
This channel never fails to intrigue me. Thank you for the content, Cole.
Thank you for continuing to watch my vids
That cowboys Father died last year and his Mother is still alive. I don't think hes as old as he appears. Smoking has that effect and if he drinks, worse again🍷
Bro lectured us about how "life is simple and dont go after money", and then shoved in a sponsored ad smoothly.
Just because they are old, doesn't mean they are smart. remember that. trust your own freaking wisdom! instead of always going to an external source!!!!!!!!!!!

When you were a kid, did you ever pick at a sore and basically keep it from healing, or make it scar?
What if what we are doing with mental maladies is the same?
There’s too much sketch behind the ‘science’ of mental ‘health’ imho.
As my grandmother said "They called impudence, depression"
Great video Cole, I'm a photographer and had my share of GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome ) moments - but at the grand old age of 66 I've realised that a new Fujifilm 100mp camera and a suite of lenses at over $20,000 will not make me happy , will not even take better pictures than my old Canon DSLR - all it does is make me poorer , more fearful of losing, damaging the gear and that pictures of my wife and kids and my grandkids with their grandpa are worth a thousand arty pics
12:28 🤫 That dream is over but it’s okay. Im almost done paying off my bike i financed it when I was 20. I started riding/Snowboarding at 14 and I have carried those hobbies well into my life spending money on trips, gear, and even the racing events to watch.
Right now, i need/want a truck to load my bike and go ride with friends and family. I have a GoPro so I’ll post clips but you know what it’s better to post because those are memories you can rewatch and proof of fun having was there!
But once I get that truck i will feel free but when all of the things i have are paid off… then i will be truly free!
Life doesn't have to be complicated.

I guess boomers were right not fully but kinda
Shit, it was so blowminding revelation fot me. Thank you. That wasn't the advice I expected or wanted. But that was certainly what I needed.
Boomers right now: listen to us we have wisdom!

A. moving to Japan soon
B. Learning Japanese
C. Is going to visit Japan soon
D. has lived in Japan
E. Talks about random Japanese stuff in their video

This is because you are as out of touch as they are
We are more likely to trust the advice from someone older for a simple reason, anybody can read advice but you have to live it and try it on for a while in order to know if that's good advice.
Thems fax
I love your videos, I find them incredibly helpful without being preachy
Thank you

Put sunscreen on your face... every day. It's so worth it.
Don't do this.
Not necessary....
Just rotate when you're in the sun.
Don't sit still and there's usually no problem..
Plus, you can avoid putting all those chemicals in your body, as the skin absorbs a lot
