    Got these in burgundy. Well made. Very comfortable. That was just my experience, not discounting anyone else's. The problem you had with the boots did not affect me. I have to wear inserts so I have an extra cushion that covers up those flaws. I have a pair of PA shoes and they feel the same to me as the boots. These boots do go on sale but the sale price is not that much lower. You're not getting it for say $250. Cheapest I've seen is $325.

    Well, I watched your cut in half video and found it helpful. I don’t currently have any AE dress shoes, but I have six pair of AE boots. Of late, I’ve started to notice I can feel the round stud parts of the Danite soles through the insoles in two pair of my Higgins Mill boots. It’s become really annoying and pushed me towards more substantial products like Grant Stone, Oak Street, Parkhurst, etc (Truman and Nicks can’t be far off). I’ve come to believe a lot AE stuff is made too much like Thursday boots ….with nicer leather. Not a good trend. 100% agree with you on the direction of the marketing. A bunch of models wearing untied shoes and sneakers …. with no socks…is pushing me away.

    that you took the effort into cutting one down.. thanks for the content.. though I'm not much into dress styles.. i do appreciate Alden and Allen Edmonds regardless.. i have some color 8 shell Daltons and the last fits great.. very comfortable boot for sure

    Aa for insoles, texon isn't as good as leather but its not completely trash either. Eg. The Higgins Mill has been around nearly a decade and I haven't seen any insole failures.

      Give it time. I feel like I'm walking right on top of the Danite outsole in at least 2 of my 5 pair of Higgins Mills.

    This is a very interesting video. AE are changing for sure. I have also noticed a huge difference in their shoes / boots with the full slab of leather for an insole versus those with poron. Hamilton boots are beautiful, but they also have that poron type insole, which is such a shame. While I can understand poron being used for Strandmoks, one shoe I was particularly disappointed to see with poron was the St John.

    I have a pair of Alien Edmonds that I wore for a weekend out of town. The heel rubber was nowhere near being worn out and it actually did fall off.
    AE is worth the money at half the retail

  • @gnarl12

    Ah one reason for the texon plus foam and leather insole topper is.... Immediate comfort. Many AE customers want something that feels nice instantly and boots usually have thicker insoles and outsoles.

    💯 Could not agree more. AE fanboy and buyer of AE shoes, boots and sneakers, as well as many other brands (high/low) over the past 25-30 years. Some AE styles have lowered in quality, while other styles have remained the same. I’ve recrafted many pairs with AE and their recraft service/quality still exceeds local cobblers for the same recraft price - Whether one is an AE fanboy or not, AE should heed the recommendation in this video, reducing marketing spend and reinvesting in quality control, best is class material/construction, as well as 100% production of all leather products (belts, shoes, boots, sandals, etc.) in the USA. Even if new production facilities need to be opened across the USA vs. overseas, ‘Made In USA’ would be a marketing angle to leverage domestically and abroad … just focus on heritage and legacy quality. Competion and survival is critical, but manage the business focused on quality and longevity vs. quarterly dividends and AE will survive for another 100 years.

    My biggest hate on AE boots are the plastic heel counters. They create a sharp edge that digs into your ankle/heel. I'd wish they use leather of course. Also the toes are plastic on my higgins mill and they just seem to give off the cheap vibe

    Allen Edmonds uses its sales to send buyers their factory seconds, without telling the customer that. They should be ashamed of themselves. They make you think you're buying $495 boots new at a 40% discount, but instead they send their factory seconds.

    8:03 Its also violating the false claims act the the FTC can legally take action. The fact they do not have a materials list and its assumed their Park Ave Shoe would be made the same is obviously fraud and their Money people need prosecuted. We cannot have companies taking advantage of customers financially. Not only is it physically dangerous as well. Lastly these are implied claims that they are using leather mid, outsoles and heels. And without a list and clear information. It is assumed they are being truthful, and they are hiding this and hurting people physically and monetarily. FTC needs to shut them down, bring in the original families and start prosecuting the people past and present who has destroyed this company.

    • @TheOneTrueOlc
      @TheOneTrueOlc Місяць тому

      A shoe being uncomfortable is not even remotely close to an FTC complaint, they are not false advertising as they use the materials they state. They just neglect to mention that the materials are sub par compared to every other shoe in the price range. They do not state they are using leather heels, they are using leather outsoles (it is the insoles he is complaining about), and their website does not even attempt to imply they use anything better. The issue is that they used to be much better shoes, but they also used to be owned by a family instead of a venture capital firm (and then another one after that). Comfort and physically hurting people are wildly different things and the FTC does not shut down greedy companies that use shoddy materials as long as they don't claim to use better. You could make the argument they are hurting people monetarily but so do a shit ton of other companies and most crypto currencies and the FTC does nothing about either. All that being said, Allen Edmonds are dogshit shoes, they are made poorly, they use sub par materials compared to almost everyone else in their price point, and they are just plain ugly as sin (at least for my tastes). If you want good shoes in this price range Elegal make amazing shoes for 250 USD, Carmina and TLB Mallorca both make shoes that are light years better for the same price as Allen Edmonds, or if you want to buy from an American company go Cobbler Union. Now if you want an American MADE shoe you are out of luck unless you go Thursday or Allen Edmonds (which you should not do in either case Thursday are also poorly made shoes with sub par materials). I would go Elegal, Bridlen, BLKBRD, CNES, Oblum, or if you can spend 500 USD Ichigo Ichie. All are Indian (Bridlen, BLKBRD, Oblum) or Vietnamese (Elegal, CNES, Ichigo Ichie) can also get Meermin for around 250 USD made in China but still light years better than Allen Edmonds in terms of construction, materials and price. Unfortunately as the list I made shows these days anything made in a European or North American country the labor costs are so high the shoes will be junk if they are under around 1000 bucks.

    I took advantage of the Black Friday sale this year and expected a first quality boot for a great sale price. I got a pair of boots that a completely unqualified person would fail in a QC inspection. I feel like they took advantage of black Friday to sell their BLEMS without calling them BLEMS. I'll reconsider ever participating in another Allen Edmonds sale. If I ever buy another new AE shoe, it will be brick and mortar only. I'll need to see the product in person because I can't trust them after this. Sure, they're wearable but they are absolutely damaged and not first quality. The sewing on the welts makes the two boots look like they don't even belong together in the same pair of boots. There is a permanent crease on the outside facing part of the right boot. I'm just bummed that this was my first experience with buying a new Allen Edmonds boot. Boo!

    This video is a little too long for a 10+ minute video that could have been summarized in 2-3 minutes. AE changed the insole at least two years ago. A lot of them have some foam in them nowadays. This video was less of a review but more of how you feel AE should be than while not being objective enough. At least you talked about the construction for most of the first part of the video.
