A side note. Eddie Van Halen s guitar is custom built by Eddie himself. Eddie combined a Les Paul with a Fender Strat with unique add ons and he calls the Guitar the Frankinstrat. He has I forgot how many patents registered. He designed this and he is known to be a tinkerer on alot of guitars. He never stopped until his passing. If I'm not mistaken he is buried with his original Frankinstrat. There are about a hundred of copies but they cost right around $100,000 each. Also, he was inspired to play guitar when he went to a Led Zeppelin Concert and watched Jimmy Page play before Van Halen was formed in 1978.
I was in Navy bootcamp about to graduate becoming a Navy Officer in 1986. We got to watch this live, piped in to our tv lounge in Pensacola. We got to have a pizza party and some Cokes, smoke some cigarette’s and watch this as it happened. The music world and Hollywood work close with our military so we can have special access to things like a first run movie and live music entertainment when we can be home.❤
Eddie was the first at many new things and a true legend . I was lucky enough to catch Van Halen twice live in the 80,s and they were SO good ! Just awesome to see younger generations discover this man and his many talents .. RIP Eddie you will be missed Sir ! Great reaction !
Just have to say that I'm so glad I came across your channel in the last couple of weeks. No airs and graces, ego, or bull; I appreciate your reactions to the music. Being probably twice your age, I know most of the pieces already that I've seen you react to, but we've all been there at one time or another hearing something for the first time, and it still happens on occasions. Hope the 100k subscribers and beyond comes up soon.
Hello my friend, It's been about one year since I first saw you react to this and I couldn't resist coming back and watching your awesome reaction again! Thank you so much for brightening the days of so many people! You are loved by many, myself included!
Eruption is the intro piece to You Really Got Me. which for the most part starts at 7:58. The is of course his live solo which covers other masterful pieces of music he used on others songs, as intros or instrumentals. He just meshed them all together to entertain the crowd. This was magic caught on tape. Eddie was on fire that night. Miss you so much Eddie. Every time I pick up my guitar the 1st thing I do is play a VH song.
Eddie and his brother Alex came to the USA on a cruise ship from Holland.Their father played clarinet on the ship. They both learned some piano. In their teens Eddie got a drum set and his brother Alex got a guitar. One day Eddie picked up the guitar and Alex tried the drums, and the rest is history! Alex is a great drummer, fyi. Eddie worked at a music store and used to dumpster dive guitar parts, and played around with different sounds. What you are hearing is years worth of that creativity! Check out Van Halen's song called,Big Bad Bill,it's an old time song with their father playing a clarinet solo.Totally different vibe, but so fun!
I love this reaction. This is how we all felt first time...guess what? You'll feel the same way the millionth time you watch it. Thats the power of Van Halen.
If there's one thing that humanity does well, it's music. With the greatest dependability, every generation produces its musical geniuses. Thanks JB for sharing this.
I loved your reaction man! So pure. This is what Eddie Van Halen’s been doing to people for over 40 years now. No doubt he’ll continue to do it for another 400!
I saw Eddie live on 8 different occasions and he was mind blowing every single time! When you’re physically there at a VH concert you could literally feel the power of his playing. The sheer volume was louder than you could possibly imagine
Hey JBLethal, Glad you enjoyed his solo. I have been in awe of him for most of my life. I have been lucky enough to see Van Halen several times including this tour plus or minus a date or two from this very show. I still have the ticket and I still have the shirt!
Love your honesty and emotion. I've been listening since the early 80. I'm still fascinated by his skill both on rhythm and lead playing. He will never be replicated.
Lots of great guitar players. But nothing could compare to him, considering he was a piano and drum player and couldn't read music. It was all in his head. A truly God given talent. Blessed with ears
It's already been said countless times, that Eddie Van Halen was so much more than just a "Rock Star". He was the greatest composer of our time for sure. Nobody comes closer to his over all talent. Very sadly missed by so many people.
7:18-7:22 I agree so much with that. We're probably around the same age (I'm 27), and I've been playing for over 14 years. Even for as good as I can play, Eddie has always been my "picture perfect guitarist." There have been shredders since who are on his level, musically and technically, but Eddie will always be king to be. The sheer reach and influence he had on guitarists for decades to come is insane. I've always thought it was weird for people to cry when celebs, people they've never met, passed away. That was, however, until Eddie passed away in 2020. He was such an influence on me really sticking with music, and for that, it was the biggest interest I've had in my life.
I saw Eddie live dozens of times. The very first time...I went out the next day and bought an electric guitar. All these years later and I'm still discovering aspects of his playing through my obsession with his technique and tone. His playing is a well that you can always dip into and be gifted with something new and revelatory.
Amazing, isn't it? He's playing those strings like it's a piano! I want to know (A) why that cig hasn't burned a hole in something, and (B) how he wasn't grabbed by his ankles and yanked into the audience by hysterical fans. O_O
Great reaction 👍, you kept it real and that's a good thing. Eddie was truly one of a kind. I could talk about how i watched them play in the 70's before they were anything. Or about Eddie and his innovation of the guitar. But there's only one thing to be said. You just watched the greatest Rock and Roll guitar player that's ever lived. RIP Eddie. They'll never be another.
Edward Van Halen inspired me to pick up the guitar and I've now been playing for 30yrs. I now play lead guitar for a Van Halen cover band. You can also reach for the he sky and soon touch the stars my friend. If you truly want it you get it and be what ever you want to be... James Zrenjad Desjardins
Eddie started on Piano. He won so many school competitions. Eddie was playing drums n Alex guitar but Alex the eldest of the brothers decided he wanted the drums and being big brother got his way. Eddie was proficient on all he touched. Virtuoso.
Eddie had to work a paper route to pay for the drum set he bought, so while he was out doing that, Alex would play his drums. Eventually, Al got better on the drums then Ed, so Eddie just gave up and said "Ok, you're better than me, you play 'em." That was when Eddie started to play guitar.
Dude! Watching this has been the best reaction video to this I've seen! When you said the cigarette was smoking itself and says this guys good, lol. I think this a very true reaction vid. Eddie makes me want to be a rock star too! Good luck my brother👍
We were all lucky to live in a time period on earth where Edward Van Halen existed and shared his gift with us! I highly recommend you continue your discovery of the one and only, Eddie Van Halen! There are some incredible musical diamond rock songs he has written!
you are right on! great music, whether it be vocals, drums, guitar, bass, piano, etc. man, it touches your soul and there is nothing you can do about it. I remember being in church and there was a gospel singer that came out. now I'm not into Gospel, but she literally had me in tears, because her voice was so amazing! it's hard to explain, but it's like a piece of God is reaching our and touching you. I feel that a lot when I'm listening to Eddie's music. it's something you can't manufacture.
Yes EVH is that sick. When we first heard Eddie on that first album we didn’t understand what we were hearing! It shook up the guitar/music world. Everyone was trying to learn the tapping thing and trying to out cool Eddie, but no: Eddie was Eddie. He was a natural and like Hendrix he expanded the palette of what was possible with guitar. He gave us so much. Was he the greatest? Well for what he gave us all and what he was, I’d say yes he’s up at the very top of the mountain. To see a younger generation appreciate his musical greatness is a beautiful thing to behold. God Bless. :)
Never give up on your dreams. You can definitely learn to do some of what Eddie does. You can learn the techniques. Just remember to cut yourself slack when it doesn't happen over night. These people eat, sleep and bleed their craft. Also, Eddie built his own guitars to have a very specific tone. So, even if your technique is good, there's so much more to who Eddie was as a guitarist. Dive in. 😊
I believe in you brother! Anything you want to achieve you can do it. You just have to put in the time and effort. I'm subscribed for life! I'd love to hear some music done by you.
Loved the reaction, RIP Eddie. Ive seen this guy in 1980 and 1984 and he's No B.S. this video is 1986. By the way, this whole in concert video is Amazing. You can react on anything from this video.. but you wana sing?? You have a strong voice!! You can do it in any type of music.. anyway, yre Awesome bro. Keep with the greatness! 👍😎
Eddie Van Halen was the greatest in the world and the way I seen you react to this? By watching the inspiration that you took from this makes you the best reaction reactionist I've ever seen, you felt it you recognized it and now you do know who was the greatest hits.
1. SRV 2. Jimmy Page 3. Eddie Van Halen Music is not just heard but FELT!!! And I’ve never felt the guitar the most when it was Stevie Ray! That is my opinion of course, it’s subjective. Good reaction JB!🤩
Love your reaction. He's been an inspiration to a lot of us. From 1978 through today. Rest in Peace Edward Van Halen 🙏 💔 P.S. You didn't have to say much, the expressions on your face said it all. Therapist: So, where did he touch you? Guitar: Everywhere, just everywhere.
Legendary! Eddie is the fastest guitar player ever. He was recorded at 38 notes per second. The closest was a flamingos guitar player at 27 notes per second.
Man, that dude was ALWAYS smiling! Don't say you can't be as good a guitar player as Eddie. A lot of the greatest guitarists in the past 35 years or so became great because they were trying to be like Eddie. Just put your head down and put your heart into it and you will get there!
One does not simply hear Eddie play. You bare witness to greatness. It's an experience for the soul ✨️. Not only one of the best but generally loved by everyone in the business as a person.
Check out a brother named Stanley Jordan. He plays guitar with a tapping technique but a little different than Eddie Van Halen. There's even videos of him playing two guitars at once. Incredible to watch.
Ur looking at the best guitar player that u have ever seen!! Eddie, we love u bud!!Eddie played the guitar piece for Michael Jackson's Beat It!!He was one of a kind!!Eddie was different!!
I was in Highschool when this concert Happened..Eddie is the best and made his guitars himself..Luther Vandros called Eddie to do the solo in Michael Jackson's Beat It..Look it up
Tapping. Eddie dust invent it. But he perfected the snot out if it. Theres a video if his dad cant remember what stringed instrument it is. But hes doing it on black n white film.
I can be entertained anywhere.
I come here for inspiration!!!
So damned sad we lost another legend. RIP dearest Eddie 😢
A side note. Eddie Van Halen s guitar is custom built by Eddie himself. Eddie combined a Les Paul with a Fender Strat with unique add ons and he calls the Guitar the Frankinstrat. Eddie van Halen, the Mozart of guitar!🎸🎶🤘👊
Now you know why they named their son Wolfgang!!
I thought, our friend hasn't heard Van Halen yet? He's about to start questioning his entire existence! Ha ha. Welcome to the Van Halen fan club.
Ya man
That's awesome! 🤘😉
I've seen thousands of reactions and out of all the reactions to this song sorry incredible guitarist
Nice to see people still being inspired by the GOAT EVH.

Eddie Van Halen was like Michael Jordan to basketball, Bruce Lee to martial arts, Einstein to physics. Eddie Van Halen was the GOAT of rock guitar!!!!

I got lucky enough to see Van Halen 16 times live and Ed melted my brain every time...The Greatest Guitar Player EVER Bar NONE...
I was fortunate enough to see ( VanHalen) live on two different occasions.

I rock this on my Camaro and channel my 80’s tween energy !!

I have heard the first part when he's sitting ( after the smoke rings) is a piece of a lullaby he wrote for his son
Yes it's on a record recorded and few years after this on the FOR UNLAWFUL CARNAL KNOWLEDGE album called 3:16. That's his son Wolfgangs birthday.
This guy was the best!!He made his own guitars and left a guitar he for Dimebag Darrell wen he died
If you become a rock star, I will be in the first row of every one of your concerts. All you need is PASSION, and I believe you can do it.

I had to say goodbye to a period of my childhood when Eddie died, the universe delivered up one hell of a gem.
Man, that dude was ALWAYS smiling!
