I dont know of its been said but at 8:29 i believe he strummed the spings in back of the guitar that keep tension on the whammy bar. Then after that he uses the volume knob to get the chelo sound.
Yes. There was Hendrix, and all those late 60s early 70s dudes... EVH came along and literally changed everything. And while there is no 'best' guitar player, EVH is one of the most influential EVER.🤘
I have to disagree.. Edward was the best.. just like Michael Jordan was to basketball.. sure.. LeBron may own the scoring title..but Michael didn't play 37 season's like he has..if you really pay attention.. you will know who's the best..and Edward was the best..no ands..if's..but's or maybe's....
@@MThomas5150 As basketball goes, Pistol Pete Maravich still owns a good majority of records. In college at LSU, Pete scored 68 points in one game. He still holds the all time scoring record 50 years later, despite there being NO 3 point shot at that time, NO shot clock, and Freshmen due to NCAA rules could not play on the varsity. So he set all those records playing in just 3 seasons. It only took Pete 26 games to reach 1,000 points where it took Shaq 52. I don’t like any of these “Best ?” lists because there are so many that are the best at the style they play. I’d bet John Petrucci could EVH’s music but Eddie couldn’t play John’s. Eddie’s great at what he does but his solos are mostly gimmicky sound effects. Listen to the outro to Love To Love or the outro to Profession Of Violence by UFO. Those solos have SOUL! Eddie’s just doodling. Michael Schenker was entirely self taught.

Eddie Van Halen played his different things that he had discovered when he was teaching himself the guitar. He never took a lesson and he was completely self taught and he made his own guitar because he could not find a guitar that had everything that he wanted a xss guitar to have so he by built it himself and now his guitar is one of the largest selling guitars that is sold now. He was and is probably the greatest guitarist that has ever lived and has inspired more people to pick up the guitar than anyone else since the 1970's when his band first came out. He is known as "King Edward " by his fans. I have been a Van Halen fan for most of my life and I recommend that you take a deep dive down the Van Halen rabbit hole. My favorite parts of this solo are when he mixes in parts of the album version of the solo. It's only about 2 minutes long on the album, but it's iconic. For fans of VH, you instantly know the parts I'm talking about, These uninitiated youngsters won't, but that's ok. At least they have a taste of what we grew up with.

It has been said that he could play the double kick bass pedals faster than what could even be created digitally!
I have had the pleasure of seeing Van Halen 7 times live. It was always almost being in the presence of the deity. Another guitarist that gave the same feeling is Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I enjoyed your reaction pretty lady! I grew up on Van Halen's music. And I've seen this video of his guitar solo for a long time. And it never gets old! And I sure do miss him. I still can't believe he's gone😔
Edward Van Halen is considered by most, to be the greatest rock guitarist of all time. Aside from playing, he also designed and built guitars and amplifiers with different guitar companies. He has influenced a couple of generations now of guitar players. Sadly, we are approaching the anniversary of his untimely death to cancer in 2020. RIP Eddie.
This was 1985 in New Haven Connecticut. I lived 15 minutes fron here. New Haven Colisseum was an enclosed place and not outdoors This was about the time I went to numerous concerts in this venue. Back then many people smoked during concerts, so no one was going say anything to Eddie smoking. If it wasn't cigarettes it was other stuff..LOL This colliseum was demolished in 2007. I have many fond memories of seeing concerts here during my young adult years.
Thank you for playing Eddie Van Halen and welcome to the Mighty Van Halen....please enjoy there music saw them in 83' US Festival and 84,86,88,91 and 07 al in Los Angeles...thanks again ❤😀
Oh young child, smoking was the least “illegal “ thing we did on and off stage back then and today. That was such an innocent comment it made me smile.
Because he was the KING NOBODY BETTER. and a musical genius. A beautiful reaction from a beautiful lady. I luv your accent. The solo is made up of different parts of different songs. If you listen to more of his songs you will see he is better than any of those guys you mentioned.
Thank you Inna for this awesome reaction. IMHO Eddie Van Halen is the G.O.A.T. Wish you had Super Thanks on this video. Would have loved to show my appreciation for your honest opinion and those gorgeous eyes. Sorry, I'm just a sucker for a pretty face. TINA S. (French guitarist) does a cover of "ERUPTION" at age 14 that is equally amazing. But I highly recommend her guitar version of Beethoven's "MOONLIGHT SONATA".
You enjoyed watching it here, I enjoyed seeing this tour live back in 86. His solo was pretty much the same with maybe a few subtile differences, but basically the same. It's still one of the best concerts I've been to, and I've been to many. So does he play so fast, it's called practice & LOTS of it.., plus having a innate ability to play guitar helps immensely. So glad you enjoyed watching Eddie, and I highly recommend exploring Van Halen's catalog deeper, there's lots of great stuff there.
Been into VH from go in 78. Bands can smoke, it’s in their contract tour rider. We can’t smoke anymore but they have no rules or they won’t play the venue.
Eddie Van Halen - a true guitar genius and no one has or will ever come close...Eddie stated in an interview that he wanted to be a drummer but this was taken up by his brother Alex so he turned to guitar and became the genius that everyone knows....Van Halen was complete when Eddie's son Wolfgang (who is also an incredible guitarist) joined the band
Sent a link to him giving an interview later in life. One of the guitars he built is in the Smithsonian museum.. He had a truly God given talent for music
Listen also to Stevie Ray Vaughan playing Texas Flood - this is a great rock solo - SRV's is equally as good in the blues genre - and just to help it's "Van Hay-len" - his tappiung technique makes it sound harder than it actually is, but he is absolutely a fantastic guitar player; his flat picking is pretty amazing - of course it is legal to smoke on stage
3 years ago today the world lost the Greatest Guitarist Ever...RIP King Edward...I had the Great fortune of seeing him Live 16 times and was blown away every time...He was the epitome of cool with that cigarette tucked behind the low E string, the Coolest looking guitar ever, the Greatest guitar tone in history and that smile, Oh man that smile. When he smiled he looked like he knew the secret to Everything but wasnt quite ready to share it with the rest of us mere mortals...I cried my eyes out the day he died and I do it every year on the anniversary of his passing...
Hi Inna !!! Another great reaction!!!! Bravo !!! The first things I want to tell you are...Hold!! Do not change!! Keep It up!!!! I tell you this because I am sadly watching many reaction channels disappear on YT, and I hope that your channel stays alive for a long time and that it grows, more, more and more. I have been following you for some time but I have never written to you because: (1) I am quite shy with people I don't know, and (2) I have no time enough, and (3) muy english smells like a dead ratt inside a dead cat (as you can read un this comment) Trying to improve It but, again, with no time enough. Since you like the guitar (this vídeo from EVH Eruption it makes me think that) I would like to make you a recommendation, if you allow me. Since you are very young, I want to recommend this song from 1985 (I'm sure that in that year you weren't even a little person project) and maybe you don't know. HEAR N'AID - "STARS" The Hear n' Aid project was metal's response to pop music charities such as Band Aid and USA For Africa; whose organizers had not invited anyone from hard rock/metal (as almost always, very reviled) So the metalheads did it on their own. Hear n' Aid was founded in 1985 by Ronnie James Dio, a long-time contributor to numerous charitable projects over the years. Hear n' Aid didn't get much media coverage and didn't achieve box office sales like Band Aid or USA for Africa, but it generated a respectable amount of revenue. Ronnie James Dio (Dio/Black Sabbath/Rainbow/Elf), Jimmy Bain (Dio/Rainbow) and Vivian Campbell (Dio/Def Leppard) were responsible for writing "Stars", the single originally written that would help generate income for the hunger. In May 1985, Dio gathered more than 40 hard rock/metal musicians from around the world, and they recorded the song "Stars." The following is a list of lead vocals: Ronnie James Dio: from Dio Dave Meniketti: from Y&T (Yesterday & Today) Rob Halford: from Judas Priest Kevin Dubrow: from Quiet Riot Eric Bloom: from Blue Oyster Cult Paul Shortino: from Rough Cutt Geoff Tate: from Queensryche Don Dokken: from Dokken The highlight, for me, is the guitar solo, which consists of 7 chained guitar solos, in turn divided into several parts, but perfectly united so that it almost seems like a single solo. The transitions are perfect. And, although it is quite long, I am sure it will stay in your head. GUITAR SOLOS: - 1st solo in 4 parts: Craig Goldy/Eddie Ojeda/Craig Goldy/Eddie Ojeda (from the bands Giuffria/Twisted Sister) - 2nd solo in 3 parts: Vivian Campbell/Brad Gillis/Vivian Campbell (from the bands Dio/Night Ranger) - 3rd solo in 3 parts: Neal Schon/George Lynch/Neal Schon (from the bands Journey/Dokken) - 4th solo in 3 parts: Yngwie Malmsteen/Vivian Campbell/ Yngwie Malmsteen (from the bands Yngwie Malmsteen/ Dio) - 5th solo in 4 parts: George Lynch/Carlos Cavazo/George Lynch/Carlos Cavazo (from the bands Dokken/Quiet Riot) - 6th solo in 2 parts: Brad Gillis, Craig Goldy (from the bands Night Ranger, Giuffria) - 7th solo: Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser (from the band Blue Oyster Cult) Last solo and Outro of this part. All of the melodic guitars (or rhythm guitars) lines were performed by Adrian Smith and Dave Murray (both from Iron Maiden). Bass: Jimmy Bain (from Dio) Drums: Vinny Appice (from Dio) Keyboards: Claude Schnell (from Dio) This song has the great advantage that, by having numerous singers and guitarists, all of them of very high level, it will allow you to decide if any of them deserve to be heard with their respective bands. This is the song that I always recommend to get started in the world of hard rock/metal. REACT OR NOT REACT, THAT IS THE QUESTION.... If you decide to react to this recommendation,...WoW!!! I hope you like it as much as I do. But if you decide not to react, I will understand, cause you must receive thousands of recomendations and not everything can be addressed. And I will continue being a subscriber to your Channel and giving you likes, whatever you decide. It is a recommendation, not an order. There are people who get very angry when their suggestion is not heeded. Your Channel, your rules. No one has to tell you what to do and what not to do. Anyway, if you decide not to react, I highly recommend that you listen to this song in private, just for yourself, because I really think you will like it. Make sure you get a correct link. My favorite is this one below: ua-cam.com/video/xl15Wj2MwUw/v-deo.htmlsi=rvza6yPHdLXSzyRm ...although the list of lead guitars is divided incorrectly in the video. Trust the list I gave you above because I have an original vinyl and it appears like this (and you can check it by watching the video) CONCLUSION: This song is a "kind of summary" of the hard rock/metal of the first half of the 80s Greetings from Spain! (Wow, if I write to you again I will try to be much shorter, since this looks like the complete works of Shakespeare....)
There are a couple guitarists that (at least imo) have marginally better pure technique, but in terms of being an innovator, Eddie is untouchable. The way he developed his tone is a little terrifying, and is equal parts electrical engineering, and mad science. He pioneered many of these techniques on the electric guitar. Probably every guitarist in this comment section has a few of them in our repertoire specifically because of Eddie.
In this video, you got to enjoy the Greatness that was Eddie Van Halen on the guitar. His older brother Alex plays the drums and in my opinion one of the 10 best rock drummers of all time. If you were to list the best drummers living or dead, he should be on that list. A lot of people prefer the music with David Lee Roth on Vox. Others like me prefer the talents of Sammy Hagar, those that are fans of Van Halen's music have different reasons for their opinions and that's cool music is an art form and is supposed to affect people emotionally. Van Halen were accidental experts at that. They wrote and played music they liked, and their fans were I like that to.👍🤟

Thank you for highlighting our hero and a great bunch of guys. God bless.
It legit sounds like guitar is screaming! Love your accented beauty.❤😂 Thank you.
Eddie said he was so drunk during this show that he doesn’t remember playing this solo.
Even 3 minutes of this performance, if that's all he ever did, he is instant legend. He is insane. 😄 I grew up listening to him. Those who didn't are missing out.🤷♂️
Rest in power Mr. Edie Van Halen! dios de la guitarra 🤘🤘🤘🤘
RIP Eddie.
He is only one of a kind ! There will never, never be another Eddie . Rest in peace Eddie ! We all love you !🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
This guy...Was totaly amazing.
BEST SOLO U WILL EVER SEE!!! R.I.P. THE LEGEND EDDIE VAN HALEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is an in concert video in New Haven Connecticut, the solo is live !
8:13 hes playing with the string above the nut where you tune them. They’re really tight so they make that high pitched sound
I saw this tour on back to back nights in Detroit. 1986
The goat.
I loved your reaction to this!!
Thank you 🫶
He's playing instrumental songs from the band's albums and some of the guitar intros to others.
I got to Open for Joan Jett at Diamond Head Hawaii. In 83 I know this Whole Menagerie and Bullshit of what the Business calls Music. It's Bullshit.
so fun to watch your facial reactions
I saw VH 5 times. Great time to be a kid.
Eddie could have done whatever he wanted on stage. Smoke, drink and play, They’re not gonna throw him out! LOL
He was also so drunk and admitted he can't remember much of it.
Legal to smoke a cigarette during a concert 😆 the crowd would be passing around joints to each other and bottles of liquor while they were playing 😉
Great reaction... yeah, he was that good ❤🩹 Thank you
It’s hard to watch Van Halen with you sitting there with your beauty. 😊
Miss you so much Eddie 😢 as does everyone. That cigarette had the best seat that night.
When he smiled he looked like he knew the secret to Everything but wasnt quite ready to share it with the rest of us mere mortals...I cried my eyes out the day he died and I do it every year on the anniversary of his passing...
and HE was able to Marry Valerie Bertanelli ,,, and they Created Wolfgang Van Halen
HEAR N'AID - "STARS"
The Hear n' Aid project was metal's response to pop music charities such as Band Aid and USA For Africa; whose organizers had not invited anyone from hard rock/metal (as almost always, very reviled) So the metalheads did it on their own.
In May 1985, Dio gathered more than 40 hard rock/metal musicians from around the world, and they recorded the song "Stars."
The following is a list of lead vocals:
Ronnie James Dio: from Dio
Dave Meniketti: from Y&T (Yesterday & Today)
Rob Halford: from Judas Priest
Kevin Dubrow: from Quiet Riot
Eric Bloom: from Blue Oyster Cult
Paul Shortino: from Rough Cutt
Geoff Tate: from Queensryche
Don Dokken: from Dokken
The highlight, for me, is the guitar solo, which consists of 7 chained guitar solos, in turn divided into several parts, but perfectly united so that it almost seems like a single solo. The transitions are perfect. And, although it is quite long, I am sure it will stay in your head.
GUITAR SOLOS:
- 1st solo in 4 parts: Craig Goldy/Eddie Ojeda/Craig Goldy/Eddie Ojeda (from the bands Giuffria/Twisted Sister)
- 2nd solo in 3 parts: Vivian Campbell/Brad Gillis/Vivian Campbell (from the bands Dio/Night Ranger)
- 3rd solo in 3 parts: Neal Schon/George Lynch/Neal Schon (from the bands Journey/Dokken)
- 4th solo in 3 parts: Yngwie Malmsteen/Vivian Campbell/ Yngwie Malmsteen (from the bands Yngwie Malmsteen/ Dio)
- 5th solo in 4 parts: George Lynch/Carlos Cavazo/George Lynch/Carlos Cavazo (from the bands Dokken/Quiet Riot)
- 6th solo in 2 parts: Brad Gillis, Craig Goldy (from the bands Night Ranger, Giuffria)
- 7th solo: Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser (from the band Blue Oyster Cult) Last solo and Outro of this part.
All of the melodic guitars (or rhythm guitars) lines were performed by Adrian Smith and Dave Murray (both from Iron Maiden).
Bass: Jimmy Bain (from Dio)
Drums: Vinny Appice (from Dio)
Keyboards: Claude Schnell (from Dio)
This song has the great advantage that, by having numerous singers and guitarists, all of them of very high level, it will allow you to decide if any of them deserve to be heard with their respective bands.
My favorite is this one below:
ua-cam.com/video/xl15Wj2MwUw/v-deo.htmlsi=rvza6yPHdLXSzyRm
...although the list of lead guitars is divided incorrectly in the video. Trust the list I gave you above because I have an original vinyl and it appears like this (and you can check it by watching the video)
CONCLUSION:
This song is a "kind of summary" of the hard rock/metal of the first half of the 80s
Greetings from Spain!
(Wow, if I write to you again I will try to be much shorter, since this looks like the complete works of Shakespeare....)
RIP!! My favorite guitarist as well as the Great Drummer Neil Peart. 😢
Someone asked him what’s it like to be the best guitar player in the world, Eddie replied “ask Roy Clark.”
It IS illegal in most places in the US to smoke..even onstage...however this was filmed in 1986
Cleave!!!!!!
Fantastic guitarplayer and person.
If you listen to all of Van Halen albums, you will hear all of these... It's a compilation of Van Halen...
He was the King.......🎸💪💪😢
EVH is Mozart & we’re all Salieri’s. Witnessing greatness, but not in ourselves.
No, it is the best guitar solo ever, dear. It's okay. Now, you're a fan, welcome. 😂❤ hahaha
They wrote and played music they liked, and their fans were I like that to.👍🤟
SRV is the GOAT!
You should react to “I Still Love You” unplugged by kiss. Paul Stanley is such an underrated singer.
He's wearing the MC Hammer pants before MC came out , 👍
