Greatest solo of all time
It's definitely top 2 right up there with David Gilmour' solo from Comfortably Numb live at The Pulse!!
Check out the worlds greatest drummer ua-cam.com/video/LWRMOJQDiLU/v-deo.html
The pinnacle of perfection, the standard which everyone who ever held a guitar aspires to. The G.O.A.T. Rest in peace Eddie
You have just seen why Eddie is referred to as KING EDWARD!!! No one can ever come close to what Eddie meant to music or guitar playing.
King Edward Van Halen the Great of the Mighty Van Halen. RIP to the all-time greatest.
Although this solo is called the eruption solo, eruption is a solo track on the first album. This solo has parts in it from various other recordings. Mean streets, little guitars, cathedral, and one that hadn't been released yet called 3:16. Eddie forced the industry to come up with a new style of putting the music on paper so it can be read. Eddie was a genius when it came to music. Just like there will never be another Hendrix, or Les Paul, or Leo Fender, there will never be another Edward Van Halen. I'm privileged enough to say that I got to see him play that solo 3 nights in a row. Life couldn't be any more awesome than that. RIP Edward VanHalen.
I was in the audience for the two concerts they filmed for this. Wow.. (New Haven CT.)
Long live the King........💣💣💣❤❤❤❤🤘🤘🤘🤘
I don't care if he was high or not. I grew up with these guys in Southern California and Eddie is the best rock and roll guitar player ever! Period! Yeah there's Jimmy and Stevie but no one could compare to Eddie. RIP Eddie.
Have fun🎉
I saw Eddie on The Fair Warning Tour 1981_. July 29th 1981..Ourj jaws dropped !!!!
Rock On And RIP Eddie!!! The Best!!!!
Dude you been living under a rock
Angus Young is a very good guitarist, but Edward Van Halen is on God Mode, no comparison!!! I was witness to Eruption`s 3 times Live and I walked away in a daze each time!
"Listen to this..." - over at my buddy's house in 1977 when we were both 13 and he put on Van Halen I . I had the same look on my face then as you do now.
"How is he doing that??" was my question as well.
I snuck into my sister's record collection . Oh this looks cool . Dropped the needle . WTF !!!.. . Is this actually a human playing this ? . I started pay my guitar shortly afterwards . Went to a concert ,jaw dropped . Van Halen . Fair Warning Tour .. July 29th 1981_Capital Centre Landover Maryland .
Spot on! Little substance now! It’s a different time. Quality on some levels doesn’t exist! It’s about cash more than anything. If the record company thinks u can make them dollars ur in!
The session musicians are who make it!
They’re the real deal.
I’d like that job. Head to the mailbox in my robe and collect my check!!
Enjoyed the reaction.
Glad I saw them all 5 times before Ed left us!
Nothing like seeing them live!
You will really enjoy diving into their music catalog.
Note that for portions of the solo he is improvising on Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor.
Eddie was self taught guitarist and pianist and he was truly a musical prodigy and genius when it came to writing and making any song better than the original. Michael Jackson was recommended Eddie as the guitarist for a new song that he was writing that he wanted to put his foot into the rock music arena and he asked his good friend to get him an amazing guitarist and Quincy Jones asked around and the only great guitarist that was available was Eddie Van Halen and after they met Eddie rearranged Michael's song for his guitar solo to fit it better to where Michael told Eddie afterwards that he had made his song better than he could have ever imagined it being and with that music history was made for all mankind to truly appreciate 2 people getting together and work together for a single purpose. Listen to Michael Jackson's "Beat It" and listen to the guitar solo that Eddie wrote. Truly incredible!!
Won't forget Van Halen now.
THE GOAT 🐐
How have you not known of them???? Mind blowing.
He is the BEST He will be missed
Right on he likes it's . . . Larry Hernandez.
He knew his s#@t. So glad I got to see him concert before he left us. I heard you say it sounded familiar I believe people have said this was an inspiration for Sam's solo before Mars by Liliac
If you're referring to thunderstruck by AC DC that was in 1990, The first Van Halen album when everyone heard the shred, Whammy bar, tapping, harmonics and everything else was in 1978, the year before Bon died and Highway to hell came out... No one played or sounded like Edward back then.
excellent reaction absolutely Eddie at his best! also awesone t-shirt on the wall
This is how I felt in 1978 when my mate Dave brought the first Van Halen album into school on a TDK90 cassette. We thought the last bit of Eruption was a keyboard, as we'd never heard anything like it before in our lives.
Do yourself a favor and watch the whole concert....! Peace!
Miss smoking?... me too, me too. Been 5 years for me, I'm 54... I doesn't go away my bro. 😤
You know that riff because it's "Eruption" off their first album.
@DCReacts1984
"I know that riff"
Yes, you should.
Eddie Van Halen wrote it for either I forget the song but it's from the band Van Halen (where yes, Eddie Van Halen is the guitarist)
Eddie was my favorite student when I was teaching guitar lessons.
You got Kevin Costner’s autograph? That’s rare, hold on to it.
He DID push an effects pedal in that part in question…an echo pedal of some sort….the rest was technique and volume knob manipulation.
Eruption, Cathedral, Mean Street, and Spanish Fly. He did those four at every concert, mixed in with some Mozart and Beethoven.😁
This was 1986….he was a master
This is one of the most iconic guitar 🎸 solos in history 👏, but apparently in a interview Eddie admitted that he was so drunk that night he doesn't even remember being filmed, and his performance wasn't his best work..from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸🤠
Also coked up 😎
Wow. I just heard a reactor say she thought the cigarette on his guitar neck was for filming purposes. 😆
I disputed that of course, but didn't know what I just learned from you. I love learning new stuff from this format. ❤️✌️
@@kierstenridgway4634 that cigarette 🚬 in the bridge area was a common smoke 🚬 holder, back when everybody smoked!..from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 🤠
@Bill Allen that's what I figured. I knew it wasn't something contrived.
...and you know what's crazy about that, Bill? He played this solo flawlessly...not a single bad note....true genius, even if he was blottoed..
Your reaction was exceptional! Great insights on multiple levels. Music is so healing ~ I watched the day's cares leave your face the deeper you waded into this video. Much respect for your reaction to this video.
Keep up the good vibes! You now have another subscriber ~ me!
Best of luck on a new job search. May your new life/job bring healing to you and your family 🙂✌️
I've seen EVH in concert 8 times. 8 times he has blown me away. He is the originator of tapping and harmonics on a guitar. The KING
Lots of incredible guitarists because of Eddie's originality
Another band that sounds completely identical to their studio recordings is Rush. I highly recommend you check out a few of their songs like free will, limelight and YYZ live from Rio.
You asked how he was making the "demonic" sounds, he did it with the aid of the tremolo bar, and some guitar effects, but it was from his own experimentation that he was able to create those sounds in the first place. I was able to see him do this solo on this tour when he came to my town, basically the same solo, maybe with a few minor differences.
Another guitarist to checkout is Randy Rhoads, Ozzy Osbourne's first guitarist when he was solo after Black Sabbath. Although there is VERY LITTLE live footage of him, the first 2 Ozzy albums he played & co-wrote on. I HIGHLEY recommend the song "Diary of a Madman", and "Tonight", especially the ending solo on the later, both from the Diary of a Madman album.
I love your reactions bro. Keep representing 🇿🇦
The drummer is his brother, Alex.🤘🤘🎸🎸🔊🔊
If you like drums, check out his brother’s drum solo from this same concert.
eddie never used a distortion pedal. he created all his sounds
I believe it's time for you to catch up with/videos. I think It would be an amazing journey for you! 😎
1 of the GOAT 🐐 guitar solos.
Edward van Halen played the guitar solo in the next request.
Suggested video 📹: Michael Jackson sings Beat It.
Drummer is Ed's older brother Alex van halen
"House Burning Down" is Jimi Hendrix at his absolute best. This was recorded in 1968! Jimi did all of it in the studio without the benefit of today's gadgets. And nobody has equaled it to this day, and we're talking 55 years hence. Jimi Hendrix was...well, you'll have to hear it for yourself. 🎸
I'm sure that someone has recommended SRV. I'll double down on that. Anything live.
Yeah, there are affects being used. This is actually a conglomeration of many of his solos, and he comes back to the main solo, Eruption, throughout. Most of us believe the Trinity of rock and roll is Zeppelin, Van Halen, and AC/DC, in whatever order you want, usually Zepp #1. But many also believe that everything that happened in the 80's was a reaction to the first VH album, released in January or February of 1978, recorded in '77. You must put this album in perspective. Rock was not the dominate genre - disco was, and punk and pop closely behind. Many credit Van Halen with relighting the rock fuse and bringing the genre back to the forefront of modern music at the time. You should listen to the first album with this in mind. There was NOTHING that sounded like it at the time, and every guitarist on the planet said what you said tonight, how in the hell is he doing this. While he didn't invent tapping, he's the first to use it proficiently. But it's his tone that guitarists love. He didn't have much money and built that guitar you see himself - from seconds at the guitar store. He basically melded a Gibson and Strat, fast but beafy. Everything about him is unique, and his story, from Amsterdam to LA, is amazing. You mention Clapton. Ed was known for being able to play all Clapton's stuff note for note when he was very young, 12, 13. Clapton was his idol.
Check out Yngwie Malmsteen.
Great reaction! Alex has a hell of a set. Neil had a few Great sets too.
Neil Peart
god has spoken
Great reaction. Just to let you know that incredible drummer is Eddie's brother Alex Van Halen.
Al Van Halen rules!!!!
Fun fact Eddie and Alex switch. The drums were his. And the guitar was Alex's.
Hey man, check this little guy out, he's the next Eddie Van Halen! Taj Farrant is 13yrs old from Australia. He's on tour in the USA at the moment. Taj plays EXTREMELY well, guaranteed not to disappoint! Get your Goosebumps ready! (personal preference, Purple Rain by Taj!) I'll be watching for your reaction video (s) ✌😎💨
Kirk Hamett said Eddie is the most influential Guitarist ever.
Drummer is his brother Ale
Gary Moore and B.B.King i would put in the row of great guitarists, and also Tommy Emmanuel on acoustic guitar,he is the unplugged version of eddie, doing crazy things with the guitar that noone would do.
Sorry to hear about the redundancy lad.
Pre ACDC
Congrats on your brain implosion!!😂💥💥💥💯🤘
Like you said, he was born with that in him... here is another one that played with his soul, Stevie Ray Vaughan ua-cam.com/video/i6G53BMgugo/v-deo.html
He couldn’t read music at all , once he became the GUITAR GOD ,they started to rewrite music so people could learn how to play like he did. But for the longest time he would not face the crowd and play because he didn’t want people to start playing like him or try to when they were first on the San Francisco music scene. He built that guitar himself from a body that was not perfect so they were sold as seconds and then he bought the neck and created the frankistrat because he wanted the whammy bar and the turn knobs set up a certain style plus the pick up that he chiseled out a spot for in the body it’s crazy . Look up on UA-cam Eddie vanhalen interview and he will say how he built it
Mozart, Bach and Van Halen
I think Eddie is on that level.
Stevie Ray Vaughan... voodoo child live... Eddie is still the best ❤️
Except Mr Van Helen died of Cancer. Or Rather symptoms from ie stroke. YAR (you are remembered) Eddie
Oh no...Good luck with finding a job Mate! looks like they already cut ur heat. Try one of those mini hand warmers so ur fingers don't get too cold to type. BURRRRR!
Gary Richraft flying turkey trot live REO Speed wagon guitar solo better shread than Van Halen
I disagree with you on "They don't make it like they used to" when it comes to.... Metal. I'm as old as your Parents. Jinjer has changed my mind on that.
Very good point 😁
I see you're vaping now instead of smoking. I quit cigarettes for vaping 12 years ago. Every once in a while, i would have a real cigarette when i was with smokers, but i didn't exactly miss it. I think what made me forget smoking was that i vaped 24 percent nicotine. That's unthinkable to vapers today, but it made me feel like i was really smoking a cigarette. Over the last 12 years, i weened myself down to 12 percent. That was my plan from the start, and it will go lower. I suspect that you're vaping really low percentage of nicotine and that's why you miss cigs.
Oh, and "never seen that before". That's sign language for "I love you", done with both hands and put together for double the effect. Sammy Hagar does this at the end of the When It's Love video, and Van Halen fans adopted it.
You didn't say anything complimentary of Edward Van Halen. Your critique was bland and you mentioned that you missed smoking as you vaped. You said in passing that you like the drumming - that's his brother Alex. What a horrible review of such an epic performance.
Good grief. It only took you 3 seconds to interrupt the music. How can you absorb the song when you interrupt it so frequently?
LOL 😆
Reverend Al....
Come on brother if you're a fellow musician and you say you haven't heard eruption from Eddie Van Halen then you're not a musician
