Here is part two of a two-part demonstration demonstrating the sound and functionality of the Tom Oberheim Two Voice Pro synthesizer. / automaticgainsay
Dear Marc - a very, very silly question: What would you prefer? A Voyager or a 2-voice? I love to play Emerson songs or Emerson-like own songs. I know - the Voyager should be first choice, but my idea is fatten my analogue synths up and therefore I would like to add one of these synths.
its a wicked unit but it has some serious competition now, both in its price range and below, had this arrived properly in numbers years ago when it should have i firmly believe he would have sold so many more.
Yes, I think so. However, there isn't many synths out there that are authentic reproductions with four oscillators, two filters, four envelopes, and modular... fully analog (except for complex sequencer)... duophonic... etc. While there are other synths out there in this price range of this type and quality, once you factor functions in there... it's really quite amazing for the price.
AutomaticGainsay all very true especially when you count in the semi modular nature, time will tell I suppose. I'm hoping its 4osc can tear the house down but I've yet to hear it, how about you make it happen? Wink wink
AutomaticGainsay yeah I'm getting both, model d is pre ordered and will be saving up for a tvp but I think I did it the wrong way cos I suspect Moog to be making the model d in bigger quantities and for longer than Tom will be making the two voice then again all ready got a SEM patch panel
The thing is, though... the TVP has a resonant high-pass filter. With that, it's possible to make a truly thunderous low end. And, you can even then direct the output from that SEM to the input to the other SEM, where you can employ a low pass on it, to get warmer, darker sounds. Of course, there is no match for Minimoog tone, but the TVP is capable of some its own 12 dB per octave tone. That's why I think they compliment each other so well!
Completely agree, I didn't quite mean that they are competition or rivals. What I tried to express was that they put you in a conundrum... To moog or two voice? That is the question.
I love the intro graphics with the old Oberheim logo!
Wish they kept it on this synth.
That insane LFO - I remember when I had a CS15, it used to have an insane LFO like that as well!
I hope you do a video of the sequencer
I wish they would make the OB-1 again.

I would take a 2-Voice for sure. The Voyager is a nice synthesizer, but this has more of the tone and features that I want.

AutomaticGainsay and none of those synths out there sounds like SEM's

One modern vintage quarrel: Minimoog Model D or Oberheim Two Voice Pro??
I actually wouldn't have them quarrel... I think they are the perfect compliment to each other!

The bottom end on the Model D is so massive its hard to compare any synth to it. That is if thats important to you.

Heh, you said "duty"...
