Never been to guysburough. I've never even been to Canada. I'm 16. Stan Rodgers died almost 20 years before I was born. Yet, when I listen to his music, especially this song. I get nostalgia for a time I never lived. I mourn memories that were never mine. It's almost a religious expirience, like I'm remembering a past life. And I love every second of it.
Now there's no train to Guysborough Or so the man said So it might be a good place to be... I sit in this station And I count up my change And I wait for the Guysborough train... Now I've sat in your kitchens And talked about walls And I've sung about your withering pain Shattered your temples And I've brought on your fall Now I wait for the Guysborough train... [Chorus] And I ride for all time, on the Guysborough line And I grow by the North County rain And the North Shore's begun, the man I've become In rags, on the Guysborough train... No train to Guysborough Now ain't that a shame Though I know there will be one in time And the house that's alone It soon will be gone Razed for the Guysborough line [Chorus] People are simple Like the rain clouds sweet Both grown by that North County rain The Interval is clear Will it soon disappear Under the Guysborough train? [Chorus]
I've loved this song. Tonight every lyric is metaphoric to my life. The words might mean something different to everyone but that is what art is. I love this guy.

I have this CD and on the insert, there is a note regarding this recording, that it is only a "bed track"! This is another example of Stan's mastery of music!!

The guysborough railway was going to run in front of the house my grandfather grew up in but now thanks to another liberal promise it's the trans Canada trail running in front of Grampies house!
Why did I move to Saskatchewan from Guysborough? Oh wait, I have steady work out here for as long as I want it whereas in Guysborough I'd be on the pogey.. Still sucks though..

My grandfather would play this song on his guitar while sitting in st Francis harbor guysbrough ns . Miss those days
Stan was indeed the man...and died a heroes death! Canada needs to formally recognize this mans contribution to the fabric of Canada.
This is one of the most phenomenal songs I have ever heard. Just simply gorgeous.
Huge Stan rogers fan.

Best place on earth.

As long as I've loved Stan, I've never heard this wonderful song!

I love this song. Not only because I was born and still living in Guysborough.

God, we miss you, Stan.
This song has a lot of Cat Stevens/James Taylor vibes. I’m really digging it
The Guysborough train tracks actually ran right behind my grandfathers house he grew up in. The railway is now part of the TCT ( trans canada trail )
I'm from guysborough
I first heard this tune on a CD a Cape Breton teacher gave me while we were in Japan. Still have the CD but lost contact with the teacher.
every time you play that song, you connect with that teacher. Really.
Just looked it up on google maps, there's not even a train station in Guysborough, reckon the bloke in the song will be waiting a fair bit longer.
I think Stan knew that
@@janetbousquet4741 Now we all do.
i miss him to so much
i am going home to halilfax soon
ya i really miss him
There's still no train to Guysborough.
I often take these night shift walks when the foreman's not around...
I turn my back on the coolin' stacks and make for open ground

I'm not saying this is the land of milk and honey. Just saying that I can make a go of it here - it still sucks and I'd just as soon be home.
