    I was searching around in the owners manual and it said that L was for selecting how many gears you want to use for just such occasions. I have a 2018 2.5l extended cab. I plan on towing around 2.5k pounds and I don’t have a tow haul mode. I’m going to try leaving it in L and only select up to 4th hear since 5 and 6 are both overdrive gears.

      After reading your comment ,I tried this on the way to work and it worked exactly as you said.My Colorado came with down hill assist (uses engine to slow down truck )I couldn’t find anything in the manual to turn this feature off ,do you know anything about that

    I towed a chevy cavalier z24 on a trailer from wv to al years ago. The truck was a Colorado 4x4 3500 I5. I'd say total weight was bout 4700lbs. It did ok but on grades i really felt the weight back there. I couldn't pass the semi infront of me because when we hit grades I was as slow as him lol, it got the job done though.

    Them 2.5l motors ain’t made to tow like that on steep grades lol but looks like it did alright. Like a rock! 😆 I towed around 5000 lbs with my 2019 Z71 3.6l and it knew it was back there but handled it really well. The 8 speed transmission helps out a whole lot on hills!

      They put the same size tires on the 3.6L and the 2.5L. The 2.5L comes with 4.11:1 rear gear vs the v6 3.73:1 rear gearing. Stock tires are 255/75/16 or 255/70/17 with factory wheels or steelies.
      My 2015 Colorado stayed in 5th gear 70% of the time trying to keep 75-80mph. I went to a 245/65/17. I have driven 450 miles and averaging 32 mpg. Have a best of 37mpg for 25 miles through a city and rural area mix.
      That number was about 21MPG with the bigger heavier tires. Couldn't go up an upgrade without having to go back into passing gear. I can pull hills now at 21-23 MPG compared to 13MPG. Lost about 300 RPM, but with a 95MPH speed limiter and will do that easily in 5th gear, nothing wrong at all with her now.... Heck she'd do 130+ mph easily if not for the speed limiter. The gearing doesn't need to be anywhere near that high; at least with the 6 speed auto.
      I'm by no means comparing towing, just what these trucks were meant for, driving back and forth to Lowe's and the many things in the yard that needs hauling.

      yours should do a lot better since you can keep it in the desired gear manually,i do recommend gatting a trailer brake if you dont already have one ,I used one from Redarc easy to install

    Thanks for posting this, how far did you travel ? I was thinking of doing the same , have a 2016 wt access cab 4x4 with a fiberglass canopy that probably weights around 300 lbs to tow a Subaru hatch at 3200 lbs but didn’t realize the trailer was 2000 . Mostly flat highway with the exceptions of a few hills .

    Two suggestions,
    1 Trifecta tune and CAI. At very least Not concerned about the motor, those auto trans tho.
    2 Get the 6 speed 2.5.

      @@ozcorr909 wow so that was quite a bit of weight. I'm thinking about getting a new 2023 colorado but I want to be able to pull my 2012 gmc sierra regular cab with it. Truck weighs about 4000 lbs so seems it should be able to tow it. The new one I'm looking at is rated at either 6000lbs or 7700lbs towing.

      @ozcorr909  Рік тому

      tha would not be a problem for your 2023 colorado with that rating my colorado is rated at 3500lbs all ive done is change the tow hitch to a 7000lb rating and added a trailer brake .(im sure yours would have this from factory.)my truck to trailer weight ratio is still 80 percent wich is in the safe zone,where i am taking a risk is my engine it is not rated for this but ive owned the truck since new and it has over 120k miles tow 2 to 3 times a year and is still working fine.The truck youre looking at is much more capable than mine
