Suggestion for the next Villians Too Stupid To Win: Voldemort. He failed at taking over a high school.
And killing a child multiple times
Voldemort definitelly had the worst army infiction. Groups of unrefined and undisciplined kids are easily able to defeat them, and they are in a 5 to 1 numeric advantage. The only kill they pull of during the saga is Sirius Black, but even him was killed by trickery and not skill. It's really hard to believe that both Lupin and Tonks were killed by them in the battle of Hogwarts, since even in greater numbers they manage to be worse than Stormtroopers.

Voldemort technically already did take over Hogwarts, albeit with the worse choice for a headmaster on his part not knowing that Snape was and still was a traitor.

Easily one of my all time favorite villains. Sauron had many opportunities to win but due to a combination of arrogance and paranoia he ultimately doomed himself, which fits thematically with Tolkien’s opinion on evils self destructive nature. He’s an amazing villain.

Sauron's great. He's the OG evil dark lord. Delving into the extended canon also makes him significantly more interesting.
Yep. A villain that is also his own worst enemy is also a very realistic villain. Why? Most top-tier bad guys in the real world fit that bill and only God knows why they reached that top-tier station.
I mean... he also has Eru moving stuff behind the scenes. Like how Mary just happened to get the Barrow Blade, which he just happened to use to shank the witch king. Not even Sauron can stand up to divine fate.

And plus the whole point of the ring is that nobody no matter how strong willed can willingly destroy the ring and Sauron was right, Frodo didn't destroy the ring on purpose, it was only in trying to wrestle it back from Golem that it was cast into doom
Sauron is really not that stupid to be honest, he is very manipulative and deceitful and definitely a clever villain. His only real shortcoming is that he is a true narcissist - and as such, he is naturally under the assumption that everyone else wants the exact same thing as him (world domination via the ring). The very idea that ANYONE could ever want to destroy the ring simply did not strike him as corruption from the ring was all he had ever seen. And THAT ended up becoming his ultimate downfall.

Ok, so he knows what a lie is and yet never suspects Aragorn of lying? And he doesn’t have to think Frodo is trying to destroy the ring to understand that a hobbit had the ring at one point (the Nazgul told him so) and now a hobbit just so happens to walk up to his front door. He went to the effort of capturing and torturing Gollum for info on the ring and yet has no interest in questioning Frodo about where the ring is? For all he knew Frodo could be under the ring’s influence and bringing it to him. He couldn’t spare three orcs from his army to go nab Frodo and find out where his precious ring is?

Sauron thought Pippin had the ring, not Frodo. More than that good luck finding a hobbit in middle earth. Even the terminator had trouble finding a Sarah Connor in a single city in the age of phones and computers whereas Sauron has the entirety of middle earth to search for a single hobbit

Why can’t he spend 10 men looking for Frodo? He didn’t need to search middle earth, he knew there were two hobbits in Mordor and intentionally ignored them. Like fr what do you mean “Sauron has the entirety of middle earth to search”? No he doesn’t. His orcs told him they caught a hobbit inside Mordor. What searching does he have to do?

The whole mace thing was a film invention that Jackson added. In the books Sauron's weapon were his burning, flaming, hands. That's how Gil-galad died actually, by being burned alive by Sauron's flame hands, so it made sense why he reached out to Isildur cause that's how he was going to kill him.
Edit: It was also how Isildur knew that fire would reveal the words upon the Ring, cause Sauron wore it upon his hot, burning hands, and when it cooled he saw the words disappear.
This makes one heck alot more sense than Sauron not bothering to use his "Colossal Mace".

I think the entire point of Saurons downfall was pretty well established by Tolkien: he didn't take puny halflings into the equation. He didn't even know of Halflings until the lotr timeline, and even then he didn't and couldn't understand their hidden strength. What are the chances that forces of good will find a perfect carriers of the One Ring, capable of corrupting even mightiest of beings; elves and maiar alike. First in Smeagol; then Bilbo and finally Frodo. Once you take hobbits out of the equation, the Ring seems almost destined to return to Sauron.
I think Sauron had a good reason to underestimate/not know about hobbits. Because Sauron is one step removed from his God Lord Melkor, he is very in tune with the song of creation. A song which includes every being in Middle Earth. Every being EXCEPT Hobbits.

I don't think that's the case. Sauron was very likely familiar with hobbits, because they were involved in a battle against Angmar. Sauron's plan involved giving out rings of power and using them to control, because he believes everyone desires power and would do anything to gain it and keep it. It never once came into his mind that someone would find his ring and decide to destroy it. That's why you don't see any orcs guarding Mount Doom.

This makes me feel pain inside. As someone who read the books ( including the akallabeth) and watched the movies multiple time. i know how cunning and smart Sauron is, but I acknowledge that not much of it was shown in the films.
Sauron is like five minutes from winning in the books for almost all of it. He not only almost gets the ring dozens of times but he almost defeats his enemies constantly. He manages to luck out and have a massive reserve even when his enemies cheat and use ghosts to win and even then he only loses because of a stealth mission done by the most unlikely of heroes.

In the books, gil-galad and Elendil defeat sauron. Isildur just cuts the finger off the corpse. Also Sauron grabs people to disintegrate them, like he did with Gil-Galad.

To add a bit more detail about the rings
The entire creation of the Rings was Sauron's plot to either enslave or weaken the free peoples. Assuming the alias of "Annatar the lord of Gifts", Sauron taught an elf named Celebrimbor how to forge the initial 16 rings, which Sauron corrupted. Celebrimbor crafted the final three rings, Nenya, Narya, and Vilya alone, but still used the method taught by Sauron, thus still being bound to Sauron, allowing him to, with great effort, read the minds of the wearers, but not the corruptive taint. It should also be noted that all the lesser rings Sauron had a part in were initially planned to be given to the Elves, as a means of Sauron gaining control over them, but as soon as the One ring was put on, the Elves realized what was happening and took them off.
Through a series of wars, Sauron reclaimed all but the three greatest of the lesser Rings, two of which were secretly held by the Elven High-King, Gil Galad, and the other by Galadriel at the time. He then gave the rings to the weaker races, Dwarves and Humans. The Humans were more susceptible to his controlling influence, but the rings were fundamentally the same. The Dwarves were hardier and harder to control, but the ring strengthened negative personality traits like avarice. This was basically a plan B after Plan A failed because The Elves finally got their crap together after all the Feanorians got themselves killed.
Definitely not the best play on Sauron's part, but to be fair regarding it being a weakness, there were a ton of redundancies in it's design that made it's destruction without direct divine interference impossible. For starters, the ring's corruptive abilities would corrupt most beings to the point where they couldn't even fathom destroying it after possessing it for long. This is why the idea that they were trying to destroy the ring was unfathomable to Sauron. It was sheer chance that the Hobbits, a race that, as far as anyone can tell, either didn't exist or was virtually a non-factor in Middle Earth during the creation of the rings, were naturally more hardy against it's corruption due to their lax and carefree lifestyle.
Even if they did, however, it's corruption was magnified so much that even Frodo would have been unable to drop the ring into Mount Doom. Apparently Eru, literally God, tripped Gollum so he'd fall into the crack of doom with the ring.

I think they sort of didn't get this across in the movies. And this was directed at the movies, which Sauron never seemed to be the best explained in. I was riled up until it was specifically mentioned 'Sauron from the film series'.
plus from sauron's point of view, it would be pretty much inevitable that even if the ringbearer was not corrupted by it, they would be killed by someone more susceptible to its influence before they got to mordor anyway
That's nice and everything, but at the end of the day hubris and overconfidence to that degree is still being a dumbass. I know if I'd been Sauron I'd have been ruing the choice to not post a sentry, or two, at the very heart of my greatest and only true weakness. He's been scheming for millennia, and foiled more than once. What a goof...
To be a little fair to Sauron the ring should have been impossible to destroy. The ring gets stronger the closer it gets to Mount Doom, no one in Middle Earth (except tom bombadil) would have been able to willingly throw the ring into the lava. Without hobbits he would have won. Without Frodo and others showing mercy to Gollem he would have won. No one took hobbits seriously.
Even Tom Bombadil wouldn't have been able too, he only had his powers in his land
Don't foret. Frodo didn't want to throw the ring, it's becsuee of gollom and him falling for the ring that it fell.
Kinda a catch 22in a way. Which is beautiful in terms of tolkeins view of evil. The ring did nothing wrong but by doing what it was supposed to, it doomed it self.

To be fair, Sauron almost succeeded. He was convinced that nobody could willingly destroy the Ring. And he was right, the only thing that stopped him was Gollum's deus ex machina at the end.

Regarding Nazgul mission Tolkien's version is actually more elaborate:
"The camp is attacked by night by five Riders; but they are driven off by Aragorn; and withdraw after wounding Frodo. The Witch-King now knows who is the Bearer, and is greatly puzzled that it should be a small creature, and not Aragorn, who seems to be a great power though apparently 'only a Ranger'. But the Bearer has been marked with the Knife and (he thinks) cannot last more than a day or two.
It is a strange thing that the camp was not watched while darkness lasted of the night Oct. 6-7, and the crossing of the Road into the southward lands seems not to have been observed, so that the Witch-king again lost track of the Ring. For this there were probably several reasons, the least to be expected being the most important, namely that [the Witch-King], the great captain, was actually dismayed. He had been shaken by the fire of Gandalf, and began to perceive that the mission on which Sauron had sent him was one of great peril to himself both by the way, and on his return to his Master (if unsuccessful); and he had been doing ill, so far achieving nothing save rousing the power of the Wise and directing them to the Ring. But above all the timid and terrified Bearer had resisted him, had dared to strike at him with an enchanted sword made by his own enemies long ago for his destruction. Narrowly it has missed him. How he had come by it - save in the Barrows of Cardolan. Then he was in some way mightier than the Barrow-Wight; and he called on Elbereth, a name of terror to the Nazgûl. He was the in league with the High Elves of the Havens.
Escaping a wound that would have been as deadly to him as the Mordor-knife to Frodo (as was proved in the end) he withdrew and hid for a while, out of doubt and fear both of Aragorn and especially of Frodo. But fear of Sauron, and the forces of Sauron's will was the stronger."

The Witch King had ranged against him Aragorn, Gandalf, his ancient enemies of Cardolan, and the power of The Valar.
The one thing that didn't particularly scare him was fire.

"'I galloped to Weathertop like a gale, and I reached it before sundown on my second day from Bree - and they were there before me. They drew away from me, for they felt the coming of my anger and they dared not face it while the Sun was in the sky. But they closed round at night, and I was besieged on the hill-top, in the old ring of Amon Sûl. I was hard put to it indeed: such light and flame cannot have been seen on Weathertop since the war-beacons of old.
'At sunrise I escaped and fled towards the north.'"

Frodo and others even saw this from distance and later the signs of this struggle at the site:
"As Frodo lay..., it seemed to him that far away there came a light in the eastern sky: it flashed and faded many times.... [The] dawn... was still some hours off.

Strider answered[,] 'It is too distant to make out. It is like lightning that leaps up from the hill-tops.'....
[For] a long while [Frodo] could still see the white flashes....

But it doesn't mean that it's a particular weakness of Nazgul in a way that it hurts them, more likely it affects their perceptions, since fire emits light and light muddles their perception of the world, we are told that they:
"They themselves do not see the world of light as we do, but our shapes cast shadows in their minds, which only the noon sun destroys, and in the dark they perceive many signs and forms that are hidden from us: then they are most to be feared."
Besides facing Gandalf using his awesome fire powers would be far more dangerous :).

On a reread I find that Aragorn did pick up two firebrands when the Nazgul attacked, so PJ didn't invent the incident.
But certainly the film makes way more of it than the book did.
@@alanpennie8013 yes the films make more of it for it to be more dramatic, the Witch-king in any case was only truly threatened by the blade which had properties to harm him, Frodo cry of Elbereth was also important, but the Nazgul also felt they no longer needed to stay as the morgul-knife wound would in time turn Frodo into wraith and so he would come to them bringing the Ring with him (as a lesser wraith Frodo would be directly under their command and would obey their orders but they didn't count on Halflings being so resistant to the dark power of the knife, Gandalf even claims that a big Folk Man would succumb to this wound far quicker than a Hobbit).

The Ents are quite durable though:

Even at the risk of being killjoy, let's sort this out:
Everything Sauron does is perfectly reasonable, ingenious even, considering his position. His only mistake was releasing Gollum and trying to see if the wretch could lead him to Shire.
His stupidity, as you speak, was to think he perfectly understood manner and method which all rational creatures operated on but not realising some of them might consider, even at the risk of annihilation, self-sacrifice, and thus turn away from the prospect of harnessing power over others. In short, he did not realize there are people who would wish not to be like him to the point they would ultimately rebuke him. This revelation at the end shocked him to his very core.
Ring was both absolutely necessary for Sauron to establish himself as supreme temporal power: It was heinously powerful, as it managed him to dominate minds of rational beings, establish his grip over physical matter of the world, and prevent his own power from decaying. Ring has no massive weaknesses, as no mortal or immortal could relinquish it when it came to it. The only weakness of the Ring is that the tyrant's power to spread terror and control, his entire machinery of subjugation, is externalised to an item other people could potentially use to their own benefit.
Sauron was not weakened by not wearing the ring. Quite the opposite. He "died" in The Last Alliance after God dunked an island and sea on him, and his new, weakened body and abode was destroyed when he was already weary from rebuilding and re-establishing dominance over minds of his servants. He was slain by 2.41 metre tall man and elf-lord of comparable or taller height, supreme warriors and kings likes of which there are no world afterwards, as he killed them.
Sauron is rational tyranny personified, impossible to defeat by sinful and fallen men or any rational beings without divine guidance, unless act of mercy or eucatastrophe by the Godhead; intervention, comes to pass. This happened once in Numenor, again in Mount Doom.
In our world Sauron remains perfectly rational and his methods are shrewd and understandable.
Only if you take a higher moral ground, Sauron becomes foolish, as indeed, according to Tolkien, all tyrants do.
If we're being specific the God that dunked on him was Eru Illuvatar, as opposed to any other and more importantly that death happened before the last alliance. That shit happened after he died and returned to mordor.
Yeah, a ring that kept sauron in middle earth and out of the spirit realm, (after Sauroman was killed, he was forced into the spirit realm for eternity. Sauron was not even when his physical form was destroyed, because of the ring), that no one could bring themselves to destroy, was a bad idea. Come on, man. And Isildur's sword was MAGICAL, not a random sword. Sauron was cocky and offguard, for nearly being able to singlehandedly win the battle and kill the king like it was nothing. He also did not expect that sword to have those abilities, and that it caught him off guard (a mere mortal able to stand up to the dark lord and former servant of Melkor??). It still didn't kill sauron, and he was just as powerful again at a later time, if not moreso. And by that time, the northern kingdom of arnor had fallen, and gondor was weakening, especially with the near extinction of the southern dunadein (Aragorn was northern dunadein, and they kept their bloodline more pure, which was why he was able to live to be 210.) It was a series of flukes, pity (sympathy and empathy in this context), and comradery that allowed the free peoples to win. Frodo, the most pure hearted character, couldn't destroy the ring. What chance could anyone else have? Everyone would either succumb to it eventually and take it on for themselves, and would always fail at destroying it. It was only pity that allowed the ring to be destroyed, where Gollum had been kept alive and following them, which allowed the destruction of the ring. If you have any knowledge of this universe, you'll know that it the odds were a million to one in Sauron's favor.

Lore quibble, The ring is way more powerful than described in this video. The only reason it’s ability set set is so limited is because the ones we see wearing it are hobbits or humans. They are almost completely in capable of using the greater powers the ring possesses. How tempting the ring is and how powerful the ring is is proportional to the power and prestige of the person who would use it. That’s what galadriel’s whole speech about the dark queen was.

The fact that it tries to return to it's master is because of Sauron drawing it to himself when Sauron is weak or far away it may lapse into more dormant state but it still can work on it's own to limited degree, but when Sauron wills it, it becomes far more active:

And of course the Ring itself would always aid Sauron in direct confrontation. Tolkien actually wrote about a 'what if scenario':

I like how the War of the Ring is an extract of Sauron's life near is downfall, and in the extended lore written by Tolkien he tricked humans into attacking gods who retaliated by submerging their entire island kingdom. He earned his badass villain status in the Second Age
Let's even add to that. He managed to convince an entire kingdom of men to start worshipping Melkor and to build a temple for him.
Sidenote: Sauron technically did this while imprisoned. He surrendered on purpose and slowly started working his way up gaining the trust of the king. He went from prisoner to advisor in a surprisingly short time.

I have no issue with Sauron as a whole. He actually did a pretty good job overall. Kept himself low and quiet while building up his armies. When pretty ready the ring revealed itself and he had pretty powerful beings going after it. All while steadily cornering his enemies and flipping key allies away from his enemies like Saruman. It honestly took miracles for him to lose. Frodo failed. He couldn't resist the ring all the way to the end. Even with the mistakes and oversights Sauron almost won. Sam being there was good fortune, but it also took Gollum being there for Sauron to lose.
Definitely made mistakes. But the heroes made some too so I won't hold it that hard against him. I don't mind looking at him with this video. But I can't say he was actually too stupid to win. Because his plan was pretty solid and he easily could have won and ruled over Middle Earth for a very long time.
Some theories hold that no one in middle earth could have successfully thrown the ring in. Eru iluvitar made gollum trip and fall in. God had to intercede for the good guys to win.

I'm starting to think Sauron wasn't idiot, but Tolkien made many mistakes in his lore. For example: some said "the eagles can be corrupted", but also "the most important you are, the most affects you", but in many explanations appears to be dangerous only if you know what that ring is. For example: Gandalf apparently didn't feel something weird with Bilbo in The Hobbit, but also in The Fellowship he barely worries about Bilbo being young and having a weird ring... if I was a sentient magical ring who can corrupt powerful beings, my first thought would be leave that crazy "mini old man" for that powerful wizard who may be curious about a weird ring he apparently never saw, just as he left both Isildur and Gollum. The same with the Elves: didn't Bilbo talked with Thranduil already having the ring? Because he may not know about the ring, or he would mistook it for something random and then being possessed by it.

@@BRG1807 not so sure on that one . While of course he would be an absolute dictator he would be content with holding onto middle earth and being worshipped . We do not really have cases of him being unreasonably evil for the sake of satisfying his sadism. While his corrupting influence did of course create such sadistic followers I do not believe that they would be allowed to stick around as they would be needlessly causing unrest and drain resources. Orcs for example would most probably have gotten fully replaced with the passing of time. And most probably he wouldn't start any other wars knowing that this would be the peak of his power and no action could possibly be taken to defeat the Valar. And do keep in mind that the easterlings were fully defeated quite some time after the fall of Sauron . Which means that they genuinely had witnessed quite a lot of progress under him or else they wouldn't be able to keep on fighting not would they be willing. I'm not saying that Sauron was a good guy by any means nor anything remotely close to it but his goal was to become an almighty ruler , and he wouldn't be one without a worthy civilization to match him.
The Eagles have the same amount of power as wizards (according to the Silmirilian), so I would say that they are also scared of becoming tempted by the Ring, like Gandalf was.

They could have marched on him? The elves were in decline, the men divided amoung the kingdoms, and the dwarves even more so. Suaron was a master of disguises, and though he lost his beauty when he Islidur cut the ring from him, he hid in the quise of the necromancer, and very few suspected how active he was until he was nearly readty to strike. and at the outbreak of the war of the ring he had a huge numerical advantage. And the Attack on Erabor at the end of the hobbit served two purposes, - prevent the drwaves from inhabiting the lonely mountain so close to the heart of his building power, and to strike a blow against the elves of the region whom he loathed. If not for the eagles, and the peacemaking thief he very well might have achieved this goal. While both the dwraves and eleves of the wider world would be angered by this action, thier ancient distrust likewise prevented co-ordinated retaliation.
Wrong saruon actually lost his shapeshifting abilities and most of his power when eru literally God destroyed numinor with Sauron in it blasting his physical body effectively weakening him
Case in point sauron had the one ring with him and he was able to transport it to Mordor in his weak state
Basically for the elves and men to have even stood a chance
Given Sauron at his most powerful can easily destroy armies and warped the world with said power
I am not a lore expert, but I went on a binge of lord of the rings lore awhile ago and it sounds like in the books everything was more concise and smarter on Saurons end. Like just the fact he allows Shelob to live/protect the mountain pass was a conscious descision. A guard dog better than any orc in those mountain passage ways.
Sauron also had a physical form in the books and wasn't just a flaming eye attached to a tower, but his own fear, and paranoia due to the ring not being in his possession caused him to never leave and make all his soldiers and lackies do all the work. His plan was pretty good for the most part, but it feels almost like his grand plan and all his ambitions hinged on the ring successfully controlling the mind of the all the other rings, and when that failed cause the elves immediatly recognized him and took them off, and the dwarves were too stubborn to be controlled(Though still were corrupted in other ways I think) his plan fell through and the entire plot after his 'death' by Isildur is him trying to mop it all up and fix things, if only he could find that damn ring.
Tolkien I believe(Don't cut me down if I'm wrong) also made some weird idea of true good and evil. For someone like Sauron to be truly evil he cannot understand goodness anymore. Which is why the very idea of thinking someone was good enough and strong willed enough to destroy the ring never crossed his mind. To him the rings power is utterly impossible to resist and no person would want to destroy it. And by the movies logic, neither parties (Frodo, or Gollum) were actually capable of doing this and got it destroyed by mistake cause they were both obsessed with it. To Sauron it was just a matter of time until someone slipped up and the ring finally got back to him and never could imagine someone would actually pull it off cause he can't even understand it anymore. Of course we're talking about the movies and believe this is never explained, maybe Gandalf vaguely says 'he'dnever expect it' or something like that, but I'm fairly certain he never outright explains why it'd work.... and that Gandalf basically gambled all of middle earth on the hope Frodo(and Sam) were both strong willed enough to not seek power.

Edit: I wouldn't call Uruk-Hai weapons blunt. Their swords are simple, but actually effective. The pointy tip actually would be a good armor-penetrative asset. Like the Dacian Falx. Just turn the blade around and use it for armor penetration.

I mean to be honest nobody ever uses sharp swords in warfare anyway. Look at the swords used in the medieval age and they've got an edge, but it's surprisingly hard to cut yourself just by touching it
plus, what matters far more is their insane brute force, rather than a cutting edge.
Armor doesn't matter in LOTR when simple arrows can penetrate plate armor.

some swords were meant for thrusting, which made them not as sharp as swords meant for cutting, but they were always still sharp. and the sword was not even that common on the battlefield anyways, polearms were the most common and also most effective weapons.
Considering Gandalf comes back to life after dying I think trying to imprison him rather than killing him was the smart move. After all it's not covered in the movies but Wizards are NOT human they are extra dimensional beings that have taken on human form to help the people of middle earth.
Considering that Gandalf's fight with the Balrog (a spiritual creature of equal stature to a Maiar) caused an entire mountain to collapse, it was wise of Saruman to imprison instead of kill Gandalf.

Gandalf the white is not Gandalf the grey. Why would Saruman not think that putting him up on the high tower was sufficient? He had his staff, Gandalf could cast no magic. He got lucky that the eagles decided to save him.

Well, he sensed that the ringbearer had the ring on at the time, but the book makes it clear that Frodo managed to take it off before Sauron could pin down where he was with even a vague degree of certainty. Also, he would never have thought Frodo would be taking the ring to mount doom to destroy it. If anything he'd think they were taking it to Minas Tirith, either to lock it away 'dark and deep in the vaults', or to give Aragorn the power to forcibly usurp Denethor and claim the kingship, in which case he wouldn't have had enough time to master how to use the ring before Sauron attacked. The thought of destroying the ring was literally inconceivable to Sauron.
That’s a point many miss. The power of the ring to corrupt should have kept anyone from destroying it...and indeed, it was destroyed by accident and without intention.

Kyle Hill did a breakdown of Sauron’s eye and determined that he wouldn’t have vision for spit based on how eyes actually work (bigger isn’t better). Maybe that’s why Sauron wasn’t able to make use of his “all seeing eye.”

Warhammer 40k has a demonic being like this, Lucius the Immortal. A servant of the God of Pleasure, whenever he is killed, the joy and glory bestowed upon the being that killed him turns the being into Lucius, thus continuing the cycle.
Nobody could beat Sauron using a ring made with his own essence, it's just like trying to kill Zeus using thunders, or drowning Poseidon... or being more literal (using older elemental gods): trying to kill the son/husband of Gaea (that one with a pun by name) burying him alive.

In Sauron’s defence, his arc was decided millennia ago when Melkor, Illuvatar, and the Valar composed the music of existence. So while the details might have been open to interpretation, Sauron’s theme was fated to end when the music of Ulmo drowned his theme out.
But Sauron was also singing in that music, he should have known better. Also the fact that it was ulmo that drowned him out implies his story ends when his body is destroyed in Numenor.

Remember in Silmarillion when the Ainur saw Arda the first time, they were surprised about what became the music they created. They didn't know anything about it, for those were Eru's creations and visions. Illuvatar said "everything will, in a way or another, play for my grace and vision". Even evil and all tragedies that happened were part of Eru's plan, for even from despair and death, beautiful and mighty things can be born.

I believe in the book, the Crack of Doom was located far further into the mountain than it was in the movie, and there was a ceiling in the magma chamber, so you couldn't just have Eagles fly over it and drop the Ring. Also Isildur was the descendant of Elrond's twin brother, and so was family. It's not quite as easy to kill a family member, even when they're doing something stupid like keeping an evil ring.
It's possible having a lore with strong morals, but in other stories and even in real life, killing a relative was common in higher social levels.

That's the equivalent of throwing the ring in. Elrond is even more susceptible than Isildur, and pointing out Elrond's failure is the same as saying "why didn't Frodo just toss it in." No living being can. Gollum had to slip for it to finally get thrown in.

CGP Grey did a video about the One Ring. In video game terms, it buffs Sauron's psychic attacks, while the other rings debuffs psychic defense. Sauron couldn't control the dwarves because their minds were like treasure-hunting machines that couldn't be reprogrammed. The three elf lords were powerful enough to briefly resist the One Ring's power and remove their own rings. Sauron's big trick is mind control. And he infused the ring with so much of his essence so it would work as a mind control magnifier, that without it his power is incredibly weak. That also explains why there was so much infighting in Sauron's ranks. His control isn't anywhere near as powerful as it was before his defeat.

Isildur then after being ring bearer for 2 years decided that he was too weak and went on a mission to deliver the ring to Elrond. A major thing to note is that removing the ring from Sauron didn't kill him. he got his ass kicked by the most powerful living elf and the most powerful Neumenorian weilding the most powerful magic weapon ever. Then Isildur cut the ring off his corpse.
People really seem to underestimate just how strong Elindil was. I feel like if Elindil had lived, maybe he would've been strong enough to toss the ring. Or maybe he would've given it to Elrond to do it.
What amuses me about the critique that the ring stunted his physical form is that I can barely remember a single time when Sauron DIDN'T get his ass kicked in a 1v1. The one time that comes to mind right now was when he defeated Finrod by playing dirty and activating his PTSD. And up to that point, Finrod held his own remarkably well considering he chose to enter a song contest with a being that participated in the freaking _Ainulindalë._
Sauron, as strong as he was, he's a maia after all, was never primarily a fighter. He's The Deceiver. What makes him so terrifying is his ability to effortlessly manipulate, sway and corrupt the will of others. The Ring just enhances that ability tenfold. But because it was made of his essence, he is obviously weaker when he removed it, and his fate and the Ring's are now tied.

Sauron was "thrown down" so I don't think he was dead when the ring was cut from his hand. Tolkien most likely would have used the term "felled" if Sauron was dead. More than likely his physical body just diminished when the ring was cut from his hand but he was definitely conscious the entire time as he existed in both the seen and unseen realms.

About the ring, he ended up being so vulnerable is because he was already injured from a previous fights. He wouldn't have assumed that a normal sword would hurt him, and it really shouldn't have.

Well to be honest, 80% of this mistakes are movie only. In the books things made more sense but movies had to simplify them because of runtime.
Wrong. In the books Sauron is way stupider because he could have seen where the fellowship was at any point he felt like it by using the palantir, whereas in the movies I don't believe the palantir is ever shown to be able to do anything other then communicate with other palantiri.

The air above Mordor is as a poisonous fume that chokes the life of those who breath it. The smoke billowing from mount doom both clouds the skies, and is toxic.
Imagine sending a hollow boned bird with a corrupting ring, through a cloud of poison fog, into a nest of Nazgul flying things, to drop said ring into a volcano. What would have really happened is that the Eagle, if not corrupted would have been poisoned and in a daze, attacked by the Nazgul and being on the receiving end of a surprise attack for once. And probably dropped the ring somewhere on the vast amount of poisonous land covered in malevolent selfish asshole creatures.

The ring was really important for Sauron to maintain his connection to Middle Earth. He was not interested in being imprisoned in the void with Melkor Or chilling in the Halls of Mandos Or being stuck back in Valinor with all the Vala. He wanted to rule the mortal world for himself but he definitely copied way too many of Melkor's habits. That's probably why the Vala never sent eagles to help until the ring was destroyed. He was the opponent of Middle Earth a lot less powerful than Melkor. Not really the responsibility of the Vala.
however on that note, it is stated that at his strongest sauron surpassed melkor at his weakest, which doesn't sound like much but given how powerful melkor still was, that's one hell of an accomplishment.

Too be fair the ring gets more powerful it gets to Sauron, so who knows what it can do in his possession. The trade off might have been worth it to him at least. It is also hinted that if it fell into possession of those who were stronger, i.e. a Wizard or a centuries old super elf lady, it would have enhanced their own powers significantly
. And since the Eagles and Gandalf were of Divine origins...

he succeeded in killing half of life, sure. but that was a means to an end, he wanted to prevent overpopulation, and he didn't really succeed long term, there.
a) that's a temporary solution - a population can make up those numbers in a few generations. he essentially killed unnecessarily, as well as only 'solved' the problem, for the few places this was a problem, for maybe 50 years. we went from 1 billion in like 1800 to nearly 8 billion in 200 years. yet somehow, dropping that to 4 billion solves overpopulation in the long term, how, exactly?
and b) if he snapped all life in half, and that includes plants and animals, that doesn't really solve the issue, because he halved the sentient beings, but he also halved the resources, outside of space. cutting the resource drain in half, but also cutting the resource in half, results in the exact same situation, resource cost/available wise.
if he really wanted to solve the issue, he should've implanted some sort of trait in the dna of all living things to decrease the birth rate if the population starts to exceed the available resources. that way, it could self correct without deaths, as well as be a far more permanent solution than just getting rid of a few people.

Ok there’s a lot incorrect here
1. The point of the ring was never to give Sauron the powers it gives to others. He already has all that stuff. The point of it is to be the “one ring to rule them all”. It was designed to subjugate the wills of those who bear the rings of power. Because it’s full of his godly essence, it can be used as a powerful weapon by others, and it is indeed good at making Sauron stronger, but its main use is to control
2. The ring does destroy him yeah but the point of it is that no one can willingly destroy it. Sauron’s doom came from something nigh-impossible happening through something no one could ever predict
3. Sauron didn’t willingly reveal himself in the Hobbit, the white council discovered and confronted him
4. Taking Erebor was never meant to be Sauron’s plan. The movie just randomly did that
5. Sauroman isn’t really working for Saueon. He’s doing his own thing so the things he does can’t really be attributed to Sauron
6. Sauron was aware there was a group of people taking the Ring to Mordor and his conclusion was that they were going to use this powerful weapon to try and destroy him because he knows the ring is too powerful for anyone to willingly destroy. The thought of destroying it doesn’t cross his mind because it’s pretty much impossible and he could never predict the exact course of events that led to its destruction
7. It’s not really that Sauron “thinks” no one can destroy the ring. He KNOWS no one can. Thats straight up a built-in feature for the ring. Nobody can destroy it willingly
8. The point of the “hidden path” into Mordor is… that it’s hidden lol. It’s unknown
9. Sauron has no clue Frodo has the ring. The knowledge he has goes like this: he knows a hobbit has the ring. He knows Sauroman has abducted hobbits while searching for the ring and gone rogue. He then finds a Hobbit using the Palantiri that Sauroman owns. His conclusion is that this hobbit has the ring because that’s what all signs point to. Aragorn then uses the Palantiri and leads a very tiny force to the Black Gates. In Sauron’s eye and in reality, this is a horribly move strategically and the only conclusion he can come to based on everything he already knows is that Aragorn has the ring and is seeking to use it as a weapon against him
10. Sauron has never actually seen Frodo with the ring
11. Yes why would he suspect two little creatures would start fighting over the ring and that one of them would be cursed to fall into the fires of mount doom and that would also take the ring with it

13. No one can bring themself to destroy the ring, even those not holding it. So no “pushing” someone into the fire with the ring isn’t an option

Your evaluation misses the point that the ring vastly increased Sauron’s power. Separated from the ring, he couldn’t exist. His desire to increase his power is a large part of why he made the ring.

If Jackson doesn't care about being true to Tolkien's description of the third age, then don't pretend it matters what Tolkien said about the first age.
If Peter Jackson is willing to change so much in the LOTRs, why do you think he considers the Simerilian canon for his movies?

Every point you make with the hindsight usage is what makes LOR a good story.
All the quid pro quos you had to make on almost every point. JRR Tolkien addressed like sending the eagles to drop the ring. That was actually considered in the books. But the chance of success going so deep into Mordor came with a huge chance of failure. The eagles are not immortal; they do suffer death. And they're big, obvious targets. Just as the ents can and do too.
The gunpowder thing is really amusing because recorded history; something of gun powder was known in Asia for years, rockets were invented in China initially 200 CE. But only advance a bit by 1000 CE. By this time, Europe knew about various explosive substances, and Mideast was adopting some of these ideas and usages, Ottoman's developed cannons and their first version of a gun, which the Janissary archers adopted in 1440's.
It's not super easy to quickly develop something that has the potential to blow up in your face, even the "workable" most updated tech had a tendency to misfire or blowup. Lot of intricacies on effect steel casting and boring, as well as upkeep and checking for flaws in the process. Not easy tech. Today we think it is... but that's the time centric thinking. We know so much more; therefore makes various techs obvious.

There wouldn't be enough 'movie time' between the destruction of the One Ring and the Scouring of the Shire to make it feel right in my opinion. Either the ending would feel somewhat wrong, or they would've had to increase the length of the movie significantly.

Imho, Sauron's appearance in the Hobbits film makes many things from the original trilogy meaningless. They messed up all the lore to make an impact moment.
To be fair, Tolkien kinda cheats on this one: In the Middle Earth universe, the forces of Melkor are self defeating by their own hate and pride.
In lore the weapons would be sharpened, in filing they couldnt be due to health and safety concerns
On the first point I think a lot of people get mislead on the true scope of the ring of powers abilities. it always seemed to me like frodo was partially chosen because he was weak and not hungry for power. The ring of power works by amplifying the existing power of it's wearer. Son if on an arbitrary scale frodo had 5 power than the ring would give a 5 power enchantment of the wraith walking shit. But in the hands of say, Gandalf who might have say, 300 power, it would give a boost of 300 power. In the hands of Sauron, the ring would have likely amplified him far beyond the scope of what the story shows the characters doing. For example, a swing of a mace destroying scores of men
