Bro. I did this most at the beginning of the year. Best thing I've ever done for my setup. I now have space to store my mobile gear in between a d keep my turntables up top while sorting records and gear in the shelf. It made room for me to set up a production station. Best mod
Thanks for the vid, I just made my own one. My carpet is probably the thickest you can buy so I was worried about it wobbling but once it's filled up with very heavy records, the thing won't move at all. So if you don't fancy buying some brackets to fix it to a wall, simply buy about 1000 vinyls instead.
Well, I need to say that Ikea has some good stuff. I own a Numark NS7III and needed to change my room a bit, for a new setup. So I bought a small table, about 1.1 m in width (which I think is called TÄRENDÖ), and also bought a small TV cabinet (MOSJÖ). My TV is now hanging on the wall, while I have my whole setup, ready to use. One tip: sometimes, thrift shops, have good stuff. So look first at your local thrift shop, before going to Ikea. Good work Mojaxx, sometimes cheap tables are good enough for in the bedroom.
I like these tutorials... but this one... I built mine from actual wood from Home Depot with a template I made and it's super solid. I picked out the wood at Home Depot and they cut it all to spec in the store, and I stained it all after. Then I brought all the pieces up and screwed it all together. Not that hard. Think it cost abt $65 usd. It took more time than MoJax but it's solid. My over head camera is a flag pole that I bent at 90 degrees for abt $7 and used clips to mount the camera. U don't need to stain an finish like I did. But it's not hard if u can think in 3 dimensions.
Guys you can also buy legs of many sizes online. Table risers and other options. It's also possible add another layour under the table top with those little drawers we buy online
@@thekidrc3 nice, im 14. Started when I was 10. I currently have two rane 12 MK1 And I'm still looking for a good mixer, but my thoughts are leaning towards the numark scratch
Ikea actually make some castor wheels for the Kallax unit, they're pretty stable and add about 3 or 4 inches of height which brings it up high enough for me to DJ on comfortably (6'3")
When it comes to DJing at home i'd never suggest putting your stuff on a table facing the wall. Think about it, when you're giging you'd have the crowd infront of you and not behind you. Even if you'll probably never have a big enough party at home to equal that of a gig remeber that "three is a crowd" so to speak. DJ for your friends as a sort of practice for when you'll eventually have gigs.
Technics 1200 It's not ideal for turntables, although not really an issue with a controller or CDJs. Wall brackets might be an option, as would no-brand speaker stands next to the deck stand if you're on a budget.
I have the ikea unit directly on the floor- had the set up for a couple of years, but it can sometimes be uncomfortable only being able to stand up-to the unit. I am going to add some feet some that I can stand a little closer and more upright I think. Has this been an issue for you yet?
Meako80 I definitely find the height of a Kallax/Expedit alone too low for comfort. Putting the bits of 2x4 under the worktop makes it the perfect height for me, although I'm also good with the 16cm Capita legs under the whole unit.
MojaxxVDJ I'm a short ass, so the height is fine for me! But I meant I find myself leaning slightly forward when reaching for my laptop on a shelf I have above because my feet can only be as far forward as the bottom of the the Kallax unit. If there are feet to raise the unit off of the floor, you can stand further forward- if that makes sense?
Mojaxx I wanted to ask you if you could let me know where you got your pdx 2000 tables done at ? I think they look dope and would like to get mine done. Thanks for sharing how to build a DJ booth for under $100.
I currently have an old expedit and Ive been considering doing what you did here with the top as I cannot have my turntables in battle position without them hanging off the top. The idea of the 2x4s is genius. Would be great if the 2.4s allowed enough space to store my extra turntables underneath the counter top. If you want to be extra pimpy you can install a hook on the side or your headphones. BOOM.
trej76 Those are the actual record sleeves. I took the records out and stuck them in generic sleeves so I can still listen to them. My favourite dance act ever. ;)
Hey Mojaxxx, I was wondering what kind of dust covers you use for those Vestax PDX. Since Vestax went out of business it seems impossible to get proper dust covers, halp!
Omar Nachtraaf forget about dust covers and just buy a microfiber cloth big enough to cover it or just buy 2 and your set. It does the job and its way less expensive!
Omar Nachtraaf I don't use any, as the OG Vestax ones are rare, expensive now, and ugly as sin. I wish Decksaver made some but they won't make covers for a discontinued product. So I just dust them often :(
I ordered myself some 1200 decksavers, cause super OEM, who knows? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Turns out they're too wide, and not deep enough. =( Great looking TT's though! Did you get them painted?
avoid IKEA products. No dislike for IKEA but they use particle board for most of their furniture. It WILL bend over time (under a year most of the time). Best is to buy hard wood and build furniture on your own.
Mike Drölf Whilst I don't disagree with your premise in general - yes, custom building with hardwood is better, of course - I think you're underestimating Ikea's products. The 4x4 Expedit to the left of my space is 12 years old, has been full of records the whole time, and is still perfectly straight. But yes, if you have the time/skills/money then hard wood is always better!
Andreas Gaschka 4x4 or 5x5 I absolutely concur. But the 2x4s are fine on their side. From the Ikea site: "Choose whether you want to place it vertically or horizontally and use it as a shelf or sideboard".

How big?

When Mojaxx speak, dj's listen.
I’m a 11 year old DJ and I always get my ideas from this channel
Rene Cardenas cool I’m 12

Great guide.. I personally prefer an overhang ( not a hangover lol) on the front so that you can get your feet under a bit.... Really helps the back 👍
MITCHBR0WN I agree, and in any case I'd always recommend the Kallax goes half way front to back in relation to the top, for stability.

Chris W I checked those out for this build, but they seem to be rated to take less weight than the Capita legs. So I just went for those this time.
@@Mojaxx What size capita legs did you go with?
Masters at Work t-shirt? nice
That MAW (masters at work) T-shirt!👌

ReboyGTR I don't have any friends. 😉
That is definitely a good idea, though, if you do have friends round to party sometimes.
I got that tip from reading a book called DJing For Dummies. :)
The reality for nearly everyone is no choice other than against a back wall so i find your comment disingenuous
+reboyGTR - a good book indeed.
I kind of agree with you and kind of dont...your idea is all well and good in a big room but that presents the problem of hiding unsightly cables.
Hi, question regarding having your speakers on the same surface as the decks? I've read a lot of guides that say this is a big no-no
Technics 1200 It's not ideal for turntables, although not really an issue with a controller or CDJs. Wall brackets might be an option, as would no-brand speaker stands next to the deck stand if you're on a budget.
The double Kallax system doesnt work its way too wide and it looks rediculous. Just buy a single Kallax unit. I love my ikea dj unit! Great video

u forgot 2x technics turntables 1210's for 1700 bucks per, 2x CDJ of your choice ~1000 bucks per, DJ Mixer 2-4 channels for 600-2000 bucks......

What is the length of the linnmon table top you went with?
Nice set up diude
Thanx for the cool video MoJax..... Respex, Big Upz, & Mad Love homie...... 👍👊💪🙏😎

think the real question here is how do you get Decent Decks for under $100
Would have looked so much better if you had painted the 2x4. Just looks unfinished as it is.

It's not the best idea to turn that Kalax 90°. You lose stability by doing so: i.imgur.com/eF9kszs.png
