I still dont really understand why u would need 2 DJ Gear Brands under one wing? I mean they seem to have the same target Group, pricing and so on? So why not put it together under one name? This way its just confusing for the Customers. Or am i missing something ?
@djcarlo you think this is better than a Denon DJ Prime Go? I mean, the battery may not last as long and the jogs are smaller, and it doesn't have that integration with the wireless speakers or Bluetooth. Is all that worth $500 more?
It's a standalone unit. No need for a laptop, and that saves you a lot of money! And you can even use it with Rekordbox DJ or Serato DJ. And it's battery powered too!
A laptop with touchscreen + DDJ-400/FLX4 + battery bank (running rekordbox dj in performance mode on a laptop is very battery consuming), in total and you are looking at about the same price.
Pioneer DJ have long standing traditions they have to maintain in order to not alienate their longstanding customer Base Alpha Theta DJ allows them to cater to a slightly different demographic with the same technologies just different looks and slightly different core design to the tried and true Pioneer DJ approach which will surely continue to satisfy customers for decades. It’s actually genius tbh.
That's actually a good way of looking at it, seems to be going for the 'Apple' of the DJ equipment world with the Opus branding. As long as they don't phase out Pioneer entirely...
literally anything that’s an all-in-one device will always have a bunch of compromises or sacrifices never trust anything or anyone that says they “have it all”
Most of the compromises are fine, cause it will be also cheaper and in this case way more compact and lighter. But nowadays there are some essentials, that are just a must have and they could easily implement. Like Effects parameter here, it's only digital and one more knob. also the memory cue button (like the ddj 400 have). And why the hell Tracks aren't marked as already played! :D
Denon and Numark are ahead numark especially selling for half price, so Ominous is a rip off selling same price as flagship pro decks considering 99.9% of DJs will only need this as backup, practice or making playlist. So its actually not required as main deck for serious djing events. Got my mixstream pro brand new sealed from a guy for £300. Best deal ever!
@@tonykellydjt2805 says who? Inmusic is same parent company that owns Rane, Denon DJ, Numark, Akai pro and many others that people don't know. It's like Alphatheta and Pioneer DJ. Numark has been in the game for ages and has has stood the test of time. Numark was the 1st to produce a flagship comtroller NS7III with moving platters and onboard screen. Something you can't still find in todays market. If that controller was standalone, many would probably rate it the best controller of all time!
Right?! So many haters, and I guarantee you, 98% of them haven't tried it out for themselves. The look be somewhat jarring on video, but feeling it in real life is a completely different deal! And using it? MAN!
That controller is sick. I have a full size serato setup so a standalone that can do phone requests and run on battery is unique enough comparatively to want to own both.
1) The portable, battery powered controller...doesn't support streaming providers (Tidal etc), and 1) BT input (the killer feature) doesn't work at the same time as BT out. So if you're using BT speaker that your friend brought to the party (Hyperboom) you cannot use BT input source, you must pick using one or the other. You can't use physical cable to their hyperboom either, because of the latency the speakers apply from it's DSP circuit.
I hope at some point they add second USB port that accept peripherals and let us MIDI map them. Like lots of those FX features. Nothing beat tactile feeling controls.
@@NexuJinOh buddy, I do hope they make DJ controllers that are made for beginners, especially for those on the autism spectrum that wish to get started into Djaying, but the amount of buttons shown on the controller are a bit much for them, as well as having each button labeled for which one does what, will make it easy for those to see on the controller what the name of the cue point is labeled as, what FX they're currently on, what the jogwheel's features does when touching the vinyl compared to not touching the Vinyl part of the controller, so on and so fourth.
@@DJMJM I'm one of those on the spectrum. But everyone is different. For me, I like buttons more than i like people. As long they don't have ultra bright LED in them.
@@NexuJin Yeah, but unfortunately the ones I had back in the day, let's just say, didn't really have good ears when I used to teach them how to understand how the music and the functions on the controllers work. Needless to say, many of them to this very day still have the same habits they had back ten years prior. But nowadays only two students in my class still continue to come to this very day, whereas many of them have up and left to go do something else outside of the job I did. But again, they're pretty flexible, getting to the point where I started to lax a bit and not put as much pressure as I used to. Considering I end up doing most of the work anyway, and usually the one with the ideas the most. But it was a concept back in 2017/2018 I came up with that would be say a "Beginner's Controller" for those whom are brand new to it. But needless to say, Djaying is just not as popular with children as it used to back in the early to mid 2010s. Nowadays Children would rather use lego robotics or computer programming rather than DJaying. So for many, unless you really, really love and listen to music 24/7 365/366 days every year, 90 percent of people don't really care about DJaying or Disc Jockey as a whole.
@@derdunzenI think the odd mixer layout killed it for me. I could forgive teeny jog wheels if the unit has excellent i/o s and nice pots and faders, but sideways mixer, not.
Seems like Alpha Theta is taking a page out of inMusic's book. Rane is for traditional DJs while Denon/Numark is for standalone controllers. I guess now Pioneer DJ will be the direct competitor to Rane, and AlphaTheta will be the direct competitor to Denon/Numark.
DDJ800 user here. I haven't found where upgrading to anything is groundbreakingly worthwhile, yet. But I am always happy to come to Dj Carlo for the latest and greatest out there!
Yes, you can! It's detailed in the video that you can hook it up to the wireless Wave Eight. As for stems, you'll only be able to fully utilize it in laptop mode
@@djcarlo thats the smartest thing pioneer has done in years. can we please just show up with a usb full of flac and plug it in and play without having to preanalyze and waste so much time .... its absurd . xdjs are no better than cdj100 without rekordbox and rediculous amounts of prep
Hi @djcarlo one question in your opinion if i want to play with my ddj-flx4 in a small party, do i need to use an audio interface or not? what do you think? thanks
Hey DJ Carlo, great review. The show stopper for me for not buying the Opus Quad was the lack of Slip Mode - what are your thoughts on it not having Slip Mode?
@Hp4Z I’m not sure if your question is intended to genuinely ask me to list reasons why someone would want the Opus Quad to perform with more techniques allowed by slip mode? Or are you implying that it would not be ideal to use the Opus Quad in that way?
@Hp4Zdifferent genres of house - tech, tribal and more, but that’s irrelevant really! I don’t use the Opus, in clubs I’m using CDJ3000’s. If you’ve not got your head around everything you can do with Slip Mode, give it a try, effects really make your set unique if you know what you’re doing 😊 good luck with it 👍
I recently used an OPUS Quad for the first time ever, and with only 30 minutes to rehearse before my frist ever real nightclub performance, I was VERY nervous doing a show with completely new hardware. I caught on very quickly, however, and despite being intimidated early on, I ended up ABSOLUTELY LOVING the layout; the dial for the loops was kind of addicting, to be honest, and the selection method for the effects, as well as having 6 different options for the dials to turn filter, dub echo, and more... I REALLY want one! I was very happy with the entire night, and boy do I so very badly want to get my hands on one! The Omnis duo has also caught my attention, especially the ability to capture any audio from bluetooth, as do the wireless speakers. I'd love to travel and do shows in unique locations that might not always have power readily available, and lugging a generator around isn't exactly practical in some cases. What an awesome time to be a developing DJ!!! :)
@@djcarlo I'd love to try one too, since it helps with purchasing decisions! Love your videos! Very useful to a young rookie like me, and super informative! Thanks for so much helpful material!
Good to keep in mind that CDJs do not have performance pads so technically the Opus Quad shouldn’t either, that’s what XDJs are for. As for the Omnis duo, it sucks at night. Touchscreen is great but lack of lighting on the buttons and knobs makes it hard to see in the dark… Make sure to bring a lamp for nighttime or dark room sets 😜 Great review 🙌
@DJCarlo I didn't hear you say anything about the wave eight speakers and how it was to DJ on them using bluetooth. Is their new low latency wireless mode as responsive as a wired connection? Is there still any lag and just how useable is it for mixing?
Pretty sure its custom connection, even though it pairs via Bluetooth. Just like apple's Airdrop is actually sending via wifi, but searching for other devices using bluetooth. Bluetooth itself is impossible to have zero latency. But somehow airpods pro can have bearable latency with games on iPhones, meanwhile other bluetooth headset sucks so much on games. It must have custom communication somewhere ... Oh and airpods pro suck on gaming when connected to android, in case you wonder.
Hey DJ Carlo! May I ask, what dj controller would you recommend for someone that is at step 1 in "dj'ing"? I have a friend thats a newb too that bought an Rx3 standalone, but that's way to much for me. Mainly cause I don't know jack squat about mixing and cant justify spending that much for a starter controller. However, having a friend get into it, made me want to too. Anything you'd recommend in the range of $500 to $700?
What's going on with AphaTheta's acquisition of Serato? They made an announced last July, but it's been radio silent since then. I wonder how that will impact future licensing with controllers from the likes of other competitors like Rane, Numark, Denon, etc
@@djcarlo what do you mean when you say, "it's still going on?" I was under the impression both AlphaTheta and Serato agreed upon the acquisition of all Serato shares during the official announcement last July. Also what's your opinion (once the dust settles) about the competitions gear whom support Serato DJ? You think they'll go the route of Denon and make a completely stand alone software for their controllers or pay AlphaTheta to continue using Serato in the current and future gear?
Got nothing much on the future there, so im just gonna wait and see! But it's still going on because the sale hasn't been finalized by the government of New Zealand yet. Multinational takeovers involve world governments 😆
@@djcarlo I don't man something seems "off" about this whole AlphaTheta/Serato acquisition. Here's my opinion on the whole situation. I believe the deal might be dead due to NZ Commerce Act. (Which in the US is equivalent to The Antitrust Laws.) Paraphrasing, but basically these laws prohibit anticompetitive conduct and mergers that deprive consumers, taxpayers, and workers of the benefits of competition. Allowing Pioneer DJ to acquire Serato would cause a monopoly. Just my two pennies.
@@djkurve That may be it actually! I only know as much as you do (maybe the most "inside" info I got was that it's still going on), but it's possible. I've seen many airlines fail to merge because of the same acts/laws, so you may be on to something. Again, once an actual deal has been sealed, I'm gonna try to report on it asap. But for now, we'll all just kind of have to wait and see. Good research though!
Hey Carlo, so I just djed live for the first time and it was amazing! Although, I was having difficulty hearing the upcoming track so I wa basically beatmatching through rekordbox’s visual cues. Is the only solution to turn up my headphone volume? (I just didn’t want to damage my ears)
The thumbnail, I thought it was a Denon Prime Go, I was looking for vids on that unit and found this one even more informative! Had no idea about this, thx Carlo for the good info.
I don't like, is very basic looks like a toy, with that money you can buy a decent all in one laptop, an ipad stand and a DDJ-FLX4 or impulse 500 and you can also connect multiple midi controllers if you need it and use the laptop for multiple propuse, at the end is just a controller with a screen.
I was torn between picking up the XDJ Rx3 or the Omnis Duo this week. I ultimately chose the RX3 because it matched my current workflow. Part of me has gear FOMO but I’m more than certain down the line having a battery standalone is the move for all mobile djs who are looking to lighten their gear bag. I hope there could be more of a “pro” version under the Pioneer DJ brand but at this point, we are just paying for the name. It’s all the same team anyway. No doubt though that the Omnis Duo is at the front of the pack with portability and usability (when streaming capabilities are loaded in)
Does the Omnis Duo allow sorting by bpm while displaying both track title AND aritst? The XDJ doesn't, so I completely abandoned the Pioneer ecosystem. Seems like a basic and simple feature and its absence in what's considered the "industry standard" is unacceptable for me (the Denon standalone controllers don't have that issue).
Thanks for giving us that history lesson. I finally understand that it's not the end of pioneer dj. I was going to settle for the hercules impulse 500. Then I got a good deal for a pioneer dj DDJ rev 1. So far I'm enjoying it. Just learning more scratching tips . Also works amazing with Djay pro although I still use serato dj pro .
Hey there, glad to hear you found the history lesson helpful! Yeah, Pioneer DJ isn't going anywhere anytime soon, which is definitely reassuring. Sounds like you lucked out with that deal on the Pioneer DDJ Rev 1! It's always exciting to upgrade, especially when you're getting a good bargain. And diving into scratching tips sounds like a fun learning curve. It's cool that it works smoothly with both Djay Pro and Serato DJ Pro - versatility is always a plus when it comes to gear. Enjoy your DJing adventures with your new setup!
Personally, the Pioneer DDJ-SZ from 2015 is Pioneer's best DJ Controller ever made. Despite that it costed me $2,250 back in December 2015, it was worth the price for the features I had. Although my parents wanted me to store it into the garage, I ended up dropping it by mistake, and so, for a long time I didn't have a case. And while my parents gave me a hard case humongous controller case, the problem was that the case was so huge and so heavy that it made a ton of noise when I would roll it to and from certain DJ gigs. It got to the point that I looked for a much better carrying bag for the Pioneer DDJ-SZ controller, and found that the gator DDJ-SZ bag, with it's front pocket, cushioned bag, and zippers/velcro included, plus easy to carry handle and soft material, made it a much, much better bag to carry than the case my parents bought for me back in January 2016. And also, considering I didn't have PA speakers back in the day, the bose companion III speakers just wasn't enough to do so, and it made me realize that I didn't want to bother doing DJaying as a career because of one gig that didn't go so well. So I just stuck with the current DJ job that I had for years now (instead of going off on my own and go from there). But eventually I'll go off on my own DJ company when I get the chance to. But going back to this video, after the Pioneer DDJ-SZ, I haven't bought another Pioneer controller, nor ever bothered to buy another DJ controller for a long time. And considering I would rather use VirtualDJ over Rekordbox and Serato DJ any day of the week, plus paying $300.00 one time and have ALL of the features built in for both keyboard/mouse AND controller use (Keyboard/Mouse features for free without paying extras for sound effects, video and such) as well as paying the Pro one time price for access to use ALL compatible controllers, I prefer using VirtualDJ8 over using Serato DJ/Rekordbox any day of the week. But at this point, Pioneer may not go back to what they used to do in the 2010s, so I pretty much left many DJ brands behind in favor of doing other things on my laptop and go from there. I doubt I would ever buy controllers that are standalone, considering the DDJ-SRs we have for nearly 10 years, still works to this very day, so why bother upgrading our equipment for a new OS, when we're fine using what we currently have already. However, as for video and music graphics, I prefer PC over mac for its performance GPU/CPU, and graphics card capabilities to play video and audio at the same time.
@@djcarloDefinitely was. Despite the expensive price, at the time it had the most features for anyone who wanted to buy a DJ controller to simulate the CDJ-2000s back in 2015. Unfortunately it's been long discontinued after 3-5 years and replaced with the RZ models for Rekordbox. But even if I had scratches and crossfader loose, it still works like a charm, even after 9 years of usage.
That Euphonia is B-E-A-utiful! It's not meant for scratch DJs (unless you wanna challenge yourself), but ill have to say, the design itself is screaming class!
digging through menus is NOT fun, especially because i started on an ipad with no controller so i was jumping in and out of menus all the time during my sets and i would rather not have to relive that if i get a omnis duo or any future alphatheta all in ones
All I want is a budget controller with both standalone/ wireless/ online music features also works with rekordbox and has a usb slot with tons of plugins for the back
@@djcarlo so I made up my mind my current budget is $300-$800 I want to keep using djay pro for ios(iPad) but stuck between ddjflx400 & 600, is there another option to look at that has more features such as XLR connections, usb C, headphone jack, and also with that red/white connection port?
I tested it. Its a nice desgin but for this price I want to tilt the screen and no much latenz on bluethoot connection to speskers. So...I think the xdj rx3 or the opus quad is the better way to go - especially for club feeling.
Biggest issue i have with pioneer most of the time is the reluctance to improve on the basics. FLAC support took ages and they STILL sell a player that doesnt have it. The whole device library plus thing is a hot mess and i dont even see it actually implementing any useful additions to the library format (guess it is mostly to piss of Denon, so they once again have a harder time making their gear read the rekordbox library).
Pretty cool set of features on this unit, but wonder how it would hold up over time and over gigs as I sure am sour on cheap DJ units at this point, anything under 1000 seems to be built out of junk hardware. Being that this looks like a sub 1000 unit with a screen and battery added to bring it to the 1500 price point, makes me wonder if its just going to have problems after you put some decent hours on the unit
A bit off topic, I think the Hercules and Reloop controllers have been so “revolutionary” and useful (with djay making it super accessible to use with ur phone and iPad too!). That being said, do u think there will ever be a mini controller with all FLX10/Rane-4 features on djay App? 👀
Absolutely, the advancements in DJ controllers like those from Hercules and Reloop have definitely made DJing more accessible and convenient, especially with the integration of apps like djay for mobile devices. It's amazing how technology has made it possible to have a full DJ setup right at your fingertips. As for the possibility of a mini controller with all the features of high-end controllers like the FLX10 or Rane-4 for use with the djay app, it's certainly an interesting idea. The demand for compact and feature-rich controllers is definitely there, considering the growing popularity of mobile DJing setups. While I can't predict the future, given the rapid pace of technological innovation, it wouldn't be surprising to see such a product emerge down the line. Keep an eye out - you never know what the future holds in the world of DJ gear!
Do you think that they omitted the FX controls to avoid cannibalization of their other (Pioneer/AT) products? This is a very odd choice to say the least. Otherwise, Im happy AT finally got their technology up to par with their competition.
Well, from my point of view I think AlphaTheta is more aimed to the Non-Professional home users, those that like DJing and my do it at some parties with friends but don't ultimately do it for profit. That would explain why everything is so stylish and easy-to-use. And PioneerDJ is more oriented to that pro market they always had.
Thank you for the update, Carlo! I was worrying about what may happen to my Beloved Pioneer DJ Brand when I heard that they may be getting bought or going away. I am glad Pioneer DJ will keep innovating and growing, and I am also curious and optimistic to see how Alpha Theta evolves as a, "cutting edge", wireless innovator line. ;)
Engine DJ just dropped an update that allows for Bluetooth connectivity. I'm particularly talking about the Numark Mixstream devices which look extremely similar to this one. Sure it's a less premium built controller but offers similar portability, the basics needed to get the job done, and pro connectivity outputs and also a stand-alone at half-the-price.... to me that's a hard sell. I had a feeling engine was going to drop this type of update as soon as this came out... its like a slap to Alpha Theta imo lol
can’t judge that from a distance really, but Alpha Theta it just doesn’t look like professional dj gear. ...It looks like a ddj-flx4 with built in monitor, for the price of pro dj equipment.
The Omnis Duo is nice, no doubt. But also, like my DJ-SM7 mixer, no typical Pioneer layout (knobs style and cue preview button ahead of each channel's volume fader). The wireless loudspeaker because of the latency-free radio is truly a game changer, you can use it also as subwoofer which currently offers no other loudspeaker. But however, as "DJ Talk" (German) already pointed out, this thing doesn't have a mid frequency speaker and they said, that you can hear the missing mid's. This is the only downside currently why I wouldn't buy the speaker.
The opus quad is cute but I consider it and the omnis duo a step backwards. The change to beat jump and looping and removal of other pad functions excludes most djs with talent past just beat matching and phrasing. And I despise all the effects being clustered into the screen. It's too much fiddling with the software when I'm trying to use the hardware.
It's all about the essentials when it comes to this. The target audience for this controller isn't us who like to abuse and use all the features. It's for the classic DJs who like to mix!
Pretty good and informative video I don't think you're pioneer DJ is dead. The "ecosystem" is good and the products are pretty good quality. I'm getting the flx4 and I think I will be with the controller for a couple of years. For its features. And I like the Opmus-Duo. Is super cool
Pioneer DJ is very much alive and the Alpha Theta branding allows them more wiggle room when it comes to creating DJ gear that isn't exactly Pioneer DJ-esque! The FLX4 is great! Glad you're gonna get it!
The Pioneer is nice for sure but the Denon Prime Go is still a better value for money. Consistent software updates with huge features, smaller and more portable, touchscreen DMX lighting control to name a few. Cons for me are the small jog wheels but not a deal breaker. Competition is good though and I'm sure the Prime Go 2.0 will rival the Omnis Duo even more.
@@djcarlo my only issues would be relaying on it lasting 5 hours as stated. So far anything with estimated times in my rechargeable electronics has always been less than what it’s supposed to be. Nevertheless this is genius, specially how you can take a song via Bluetooth and add it to your playlist. Or pretty much anything is just amazing.
They reall miss one passive but important function at the Omnis Duo: Tracks aren't marked as already played! This is terrible for long spontaneous sessions where you just jump through your playlists. Hope they'll add this soon.
That corporate structure is confusing. But i suppose it gives them room to experiment! I love rekordbox. But sometimes the quality of the pioneer controllers feels a bit cheap.
Yeah, the corporate structure of companies like Pioneer DJ can be a bit convoluted at times, but you're right - it does give them the flexibility to try out new ideas and innovations. Rekordbox is definitely a favorite among DJs for its functionality and features. However, I get what you mean about the build quality of some Pioneer controllers. It's all about finding the balance between functionality and durability when it comes to DJ gear. Hopefully, as technology continues to evolve, we'll see improvements in both areas.
What I wished that Pioneer DJ would have already out is not an all-in-one, but a two-in-one. With butons and a screen like the RX3. So you could connect two to a Euphonia or something :)
As a long time Rane MP2015 user, I was always wondering if/when somebody would create a new age version of that wonderful device and the Alpha Theta 'seems' to be that device. I haven't seen one in the flesh yet, but it makes me smile to know that somebody thought about us rotary heads that want a new age digital mixer with top quality sound... Having said all that, I still LOVE my MP2015 and will rock with it until the wheels come off.. LOLOL
DJ Carlo that's the thing if you already have a iPad in a tablet and you already have a kit don't you basically already have a standard DJ controller I mean a standalone DJ controller I mean all you need is a device in the software and portability I mean you could literally just build your own DJ casing box and just put wires in the box and just have the plugins and then you can slide the tablet into your homemade wooden stand in your homemade portable standalone DJ box with a with a 30 to 24 hour battery support backup in case something happens this is where I was thinking that's why I was asking you in your new video about that question that I I'm asking
I mean it's pros is that it is portability and it's functionality, even good for beginner. For the cons, price is too high for a graduated DJ. Also the jogs, pad FX button, and knobs are just too small. I would stick to my FLX-6 GT
There are no Pad FX, just Cues :D at first i thougt the knobs were to small, but got really fast into it, they feel great, also the jogs (no Sratch DJ, just for beatmatching). ;)
The design is nice. Like an Apple minimalist vibe. Also looks like it’s just for vibey DJing. Maybe house, chill music, throwbacks, etc. Not really new hyper type of DJing with all the effects and transitions. I’d buy it to mess around if it was in the $1k range.
the only thing i hear people complaining about this device is the price.... In that case this is a great controller ! i have no complaints other than that. you want the honda or Benz
After comparing the Opus Quad to the Denon DJ Prime 4+, I went with the latter. The Pioneer is lacking streaming capes, performance pads and $1500 more. I love my Denon.
@@djcarlo I’m sure! I’m already blown away with the Engine DJ software. I’m pretty conventional as a DJ and cut my teeth in vinyl in the 80s so all of this is way better than carrying crates of vinyl around! Great content!
@@coolti44 Wow, you might be the only person on this planet actually liking Engine Prime. It's widely regarded as one of the worst DJ platforms out there, especially for working DJ's.
You never know! This could just be the start. The new Wave speakers were pretty nice already, so imagine sprucing up the sound with that kind of wireless, waterproof technology? Dang! 🤩
I could never get a controller like the omnius duo for $1,500.. but I NEED something that has a similar feature with the Bluetooth phone integration. I just want to mix tracks off of Spotify lol
jesus christ i've been out of the controller game for a decade or so and prices have absolutely skyrocketed!! gonna be keeping onto my old traktor controller a bit longer and start digging into the used market for a newer one..
The finish on the omnis duo looks soft and rubberised. If that is the case (pardon the pun) give it a year and it will be sticky and feel horrible to use. Elektron made the same mistake (rubberising the buttons on their newer models~ jump online to see how many issues people have had with them- especially if you live in a warmer climate. Give it half a year and it will be sticky and covered in fluff. To me it looks small, and judging by how softly this dude is is going on the cross fader I’d say he’s worried about breaking it. It’s portability and battery life’s a cool feature but sampling music via Bluetooth from your phone- I can’t imagine the quality is gonna be all that great. Looks like fun if you wanna get into DJing or you and your housemates wanna chip in for a living room set up but personally I can’t see this controller lasting for more than a couple of years before it breaks. Hopefully that’s not the case!
On the casing, I don't think I used the right word. It's similar to what the FLX4 feels like, that that thing's survived the Philippines in summer, so it should be good! But, alas, let's see in time haha. The crossfader ain't bad. It's got more tension than I'm used to, so that's why I wasn't going too hard. I abuse my crossfaders lol For Bluetooth, the sound is actually crisp! There's no loss in quality in terms of transfer, which is why I find it impressive. I know of *awful* Bluetooth speakers or headphones, but AlphaTheta didn't go that route thankfully hahaha
Then why the name change? According to them, alphatheta is another line, but why? It’s just unnecessary confusion IMHO. Just release ALL products under PioneerDJ and if anything, introduce a new line of products called alphatheta”whatever”. Still makes no sense
Honestly, I'm still a little lost on that part, but we'll have to watch and see! My takeaway here is that Pioneer DJ itself isn't dead, which is what I really wanted to talk about
Pioneer DJ or Alpha Theta?
Pioneer DJ.. as said by many it’s name is industry known. Moving physical controls to a touch screen is a mistake. Car makers are only just getting around to learning this.
I'm glad they kept a lot of the physical bits alive on larger controllers. This just happens to not have the luxury of space
Tesla to blame for that
1500€ for this controller Is very absurd.
It's a standalone unit. No need for a laptop, and that saves you a lot of money! And you can even use it with Rekordbox DJ or Serato DJ. And it's battery powered too!
It's very overpriced for what it is especially when Denon and numark have similar devices that offer more features at a lower price point.

That's actually a good way of looking at it, seems to be going for the 'Apple' of the DJ equipment world with the Opus branding. As long as they don't phase out Pioneer entirely...
literally anything that’s an all-in-one device will always have a bunch of compromises or sacrifices
never trust anything or anyone that says they “have it all”
It's a fairly compromising situation, but they tried as much as possible to get everything in!
Amen Brother
Don't like the idea of digging through menus for stuff, we buy controllers etc because we want physical buttons.
Yeah, thats why I mentioned those as cons
Denon and Numark are ahead numark especially selling for half price, so Ominous is a rip off selling same price as flagship pro decks considering 99.9% of DJs will only need this as backup, practice or making playlist. So its actually not required as main deck for serious djing events. Got my mixstream pro brand new sealed from a guy for £300. Best deal ever!
Good for you! That unit is amazing as well! At least there's more variety now?
Numark isn't on the same level as the DENON and Alphatheta.
@@djcarlo competition is always great but this seems a bit like a rip-off, it can go 300-400$ below the current price
they don't sell at half price with their other gear lmao, especially Rane.
The price is high, but anyone who has tried the Omnis Duo knows that it absolutely bangs
Right? Battery powered has been done, but the instant recordings? Game changer!
Sick as in unwell.
Never tested it with the Hyperboom. It does work wonders with the Wave Eight though.
Excited for the future of all-in-one portable dj devices
Indeed! The future is exciting for a lot of this kind of tech!
Thank you for this very complete review! AT might be expanding horizons. The blootooth function is crazy. Let's see what the future brings!
Right!? That's what got me the most there! The Bluetooth thing is amazing!
We are discussing Omnis Duo as if Denon Prime Go didn’t exist for the past 4 years…
Which is why we're discussing it! But in all fairness, the Prime Go had tiny jog wheels compared to everything else battery powered.
Prime Go a little outdated with its special Layout and no USB-C power, but a second version will kill it. ;)
@@derdunzenI think the odd mixer layout killed it for me. I could forgive teeny jog wheels if the unit has excellent i/o s and nice pots and faders, but sideways mixer, not.
As a DJ who uses a battery-powered standalone for wedding ceremonies, the Omnis-Duo has MIC EQ (which is a must) ... Prime Go does not.
Can you replace the battery when it begins to degrade? X
They have a great warranty plan and their after sales service is pretty good. I would recommend getting the extended warranty.
Will I still be able to use my pioneer ddj 400? And will rekordbox still be around? Thanks
Yes and yes!
Does it have connection to beatport / beatsource ? Can you make comparation with numark mixstream pro?
I might do a full comparison in a future video, but from what I recall, streaming is supposed to be in the pipeline for the Omnis Duo
Most likely! At least we'll all have more and more choices
Does it have stem separation?
You can use Stems when you use Rekordbox DJ or Serato DJ with it!
How does the stream from web sources like Tidal feel on this?
No idea as the source is not coming from the unit but rather on a Bluetooth device!
Did you miss the stem buttons in this controller?
I wish there was, but sadly, inherently, there is none. But when you access Rekordbox DJ and use a computer with the units, you can do Stem Mixing!
Soooo...a numark mixstream pro at 4 times the price?
It's got a few other things the Mixstream Pro doesn't! Also, I don't think it's 4x as expensive haha
@@djcarlo u right .for some reason I remembered the numark being 400 but it’s more towards 700…lol aye I’m a musician not a mathematician 😂
DDJ800 user here. I haven't found where upgrading to anything is groundbreakingly worthwhile, yet. But I am always happy to come to Dj Carlo for the latest and greatest out there!
That's fair! The 800 is one of the most underrated controllers out there for me, and is still one of my favorites of all time!
Can you hook it up to a wireless speaker and what about stems?
Yes, you can! It's detailed in the video that you can hook it up to the wireless Wave Eight. As for stems, you'll only be able to fully utilize it in laptop mode
What is your opinion on the hercules inpulse 500 in 2024? Is it still worth buying?
Yup! It's still a great entry level controller
Ìs it possible to set hot cues on every song in library? If no, how do you prepare for a gig?
It is! Once you set the cue points, it's saved on the ID3 tags
yes but can it analyze tracks and do you still need rekordbox?
It can analyze on its own as its utilizing Rekordbox as its software
@@djcarlo thats the smartest thing pioneer has done in years. can we please just show up with a usb full of flac and plug it in and play without having to preanalyze and waste so much time .... its absurd . xdjs are no better than cdj100 without rekordbox and rediculous amounts of prep
Hi @djcarlo one question in your opinion if i want to play with my ddj-flx4 in a small party, do i need to use an audio interface or not? what do you think?
thanks
Just use the RCA outputs on it and you should be good!
Is the load time on OMNIS-DUO load time of tracks better than xdj rx3?
Better
Hey DJ Carlo, great review. The show stopper for me for not buying the Opus Quad was the lack of Slip Mode - what are your thoughts on it not having Slip Mode?
I found the lack of it strange too, but I didn't think much of it's absence while using it
@Hp4Z I’m not sure if your question is intended to genuinely ask me to list reasons why someone would want the Opus Quad to perform with more techniques allowed by slip mode? Or are you implying that it would not be ideal to use the Opus Quad in that way?
This one has virtual slip mode so it might hopefully still come to the Opus as well.
@Hp4Zdifferent genres of house - tech, tribal and more, but that’s irrelevant really! I don’t use the Opus, in clubs I’m using CDJ3000’s. If you’ve not got your head around everything you can do with Slip Mode, give it a try, effects really make your set unique if you know what you’re doing 😊 good luck with it 👍
Out of topic but is there a 4 channel controller with 4 fx paddles?
I believe the Mixon 8 Pro is the only one! Most others can handle 4 channels, but only have 2
@@djcarlo thank you!
I also heard serato was purchased by pioneer/alphatheta does anybody know if theres any truth to that/what the means for the softwares
It's ongoing and I'll report what happens accordingly!
When you say almost zero latency with the wave, is it still a little too slow for use as a monitor and/or fast scratching? Great vid by the way.
Actually, it's perfect for it I'd say! Almost zero only because there's never really ever "zero" latency per say, but its almost negligible
Awesome. I'd like one or maybe pair but was afraid to be disappointed. Thank you. Your input makes the purchase far more comfortable. 👍
Test it out at a shop first if ever! Just so you get a good read on it too 🥳
I recently used an OPUS Quad for the first time ever, and with only 30 minutes to rehearse before my frist ever real nightclub performance, I was VERY nervous doing a show with completely new hardware. :)
Oh man, once you've gotten a taste of the AlphaTheta environment, it's hard to go back! You'll enjoy the Omnis Duo, I guarantee!
Ohhhh, that's a good point. Didn't consider that!
@DJCarlo I didn't hear you say anything about the wave eight speakers and how it was to DJ on them using bluetooth. Is their new low latency wireless mode as responsive as a wired connection? Is there still any lag and just how useable is it for mixing?
Somehow, they were able to take away the lag! The latency on the Wave Eight is pretty much zero, so it's quite mind blowing
@@RinaldoJonathan Either custom protocol, or they just make things shittier when using non-Apple phones. Would not put it past them to do this shit
Please Carlo :
how did you do to connect your ddj 400 to a macbook since it only has usb c inputs?

Hey DJ Carlo! May I ask, what dj controller would you recommend for someone that is at step 1 in "dj'ing"? I have a friend thats a newb too that bought an Rx3 standalone, but that's way to much for me. Mainly cause I don't know jack squat about mixing and cant justify spending that much for a starter controller. However, having a friend get into it, made me want to too. Anything you'd recommend in the range of $500 to $700?
Oh! Check my Best DJ Gear video series! It's got the prices and the main features, so you can see what tickles your fancy
I'm a newbie that got Pioneer DDJ-REV1, which I've seen on quite a few DJ Tutorial videos
Buy pre owned. Then you can always just sell it when you want something else more specialized and get most of your money back.
Nice review, FLX4 still hits the money for my daily shenanigans.
Thanks man! The FLX4 is still one of the best out there if you ask me
What's going on with AphaTheta's acquisition of Serato? They made an announced last July, but it's been radio silent since then. I wonder how that will impact future licensing with controllers from the likes of other competitors like Rane, Numark, Denon, etc
It’s still going on. I’ll update you when the final decision has been made!
The Euphonia looks great , I like that there are taking risks with the layout design
It looks beautifuil. Almost like something you put in a museum! Glad there's more variety in DJ gear now!

Thanks Brendan! Always something new coming up on the channel!
But that’s so many things. Think of the convenience of an all in one!
@@djcarlocan you make a video about what is the best Android app ? Use a tablet is other option 🤔
@@djcarlo Yes... but it's still double the price it should be.
No doubt though that the Omnis Duo is at the front of the pack with portability and usability (when streaming capabilities are loaded in)
This is just the start of it all id say! More amazing things coming in the future from Alpha Theta
Unfortunately, I recall it still being like the XDJ. But, there could be updates that fix that!
@@djcarlo yes, hope they fix this in an update
The SZ was quite a marvelous machine!
4:47 me with scratch beats off of yt
It's a pretty useful feature! Haha
I’ve never had/wanted a pioneer mixer but that euphonia is calling my name
That Euphonia is B-E-A-utiful! It's not meant for scratch DJs (unless you wanna challenge yourself), but ill have to say, the design itself is screaming class!
Disagree on the price of the Omni Duo. Should've been no more than one $1,100.00. USD
I see your point for the quality and things you can do with the Omnis, it's a lot! Plus the Jog Wheels are bigger and bit more responsive!
digging through menus is NOT fun, especially because i started on an ipad with no controller so i was jumping in and out of menus all the time during my sets and i would rather not have to relive that if i get a omnis duo or any future alphatheta all in ones
That's why making playlists in advanced is always the way to go! Haha
I tried it myself at NAMM, and as much as I would love this, I’m still on the fence just with it being so new
So far so good with me! I'm loving it! Besides of course what I mentioned in the video ;)
All I want is a budget controller with both standalone/ wireless/ online music features also works with rekordbox and has a usb slot with tons of plugins for the back
That's gonna be a difficult one. Standalones usually aren't very budget-friendly by virtue of having a built in computer essentially haha
@@djcarlo now I know 😭 I thought they would of been cheaper but I was wrong haha well about $600-$1000 is the budget range I guess
Same thoughts on the screen! I really wish it could be tilted
Which is a bummer, as some things they do really well
They know the problems. Believe me. But they're focusing on what the mass majority need first!
How is the device library plus a "hot mess" exactly? It is the standard library format now anwd works on every controller/player.
I hope that rubbery texture doesn't get gross and sticky over time from UV and ozone exposure..
Good point! From testing it, it doesn't!
Just buy a controller skin. I do this for all my hardware.
I believe it's gonna hold up! Pioneer's quality check has been pretty good as of late!

I think it was a purely design choice :(
Well, from my point of view I think AlphaTheta is more aimed to the Non-Professional home users, those that like DJing and my do it at some parties with friends but don't ultimately do it for profit. That would explain why everything is so stylish and easy-to-use. And PioneerDJ is more oriented to that pro market they always had.
You may have a point! Of course, the markets essentially intersect, but thats a good way of compartmentalising it!
But the price screams professional ...

Thank you for the update, Carlo! I was worrying about what may happen to my Beloved Pioneer DJ Brand when I heard that they may be getting bought or going away. I am glad Pioneer DJ will keep innovating and growing, and I am also curious and optimistic to see how Alpha Theta evolves as a, "cutting edge", wireless innovator line. ;)
Glad to ease your worries! I too was also pretty confused. Glad to hear this clear things up! More brands the better for us!
Nice feature to to utilize outputs like Spotify 😎 Thanks for clearing things up about AT and Pioneer. 🤙
You’re welcome! There was so much confusion so I had to reach out and get to the truth!
Hahaha, the competition is ramping up!
Well, there isn't a non-bedroom DJ that makes money with DJ'ing that prefers Engine over Rekordbox/Serato. :)
Can you give me a FLX10+ (just add paddle effects)

@@djcarlo Youre the best, thank you!
can’t judge that from a distance really, but Alpha Theta it just doesn’t look like professional dj gear.
...It looks like a ddj-flx4 with built in monitor, for the price of pro dj equipment.

In all fairness to the Wave Eight, itll just be a matter of time before they improve on things with the right feedback!
Hello Carlo, I am Turkish and I enjoy watching your videos. Can you add Turkish subtitles?
Maybe one day! Thank you so much for watching!
@@djcarloplease add Turkish subtitles. Many Turkish also fallowing you ❤
@@jayjayokocha38😂
you have how many dj Gear
I wish eheh
@@djcarlo Thank you 🙂
I don't care if they drop the Pioneer brand name. As long as it good quality, I don't care what brand it is and thus far I like what I see!
That's how i feel too!
Hopefully this brings out the healthy competition with the two! We need more battery powered standalones!
Looks dope. that’s an amazing idea
Right?! Some pretty cool innovations in the Omnis Duo!
That's an easy fix with a firmware update!
I already have something similar since 2017 or 8. Sadly, the platters don't have a realistic feeling and responsiveness.
These one do!
Maybe that's next on their chopping block! We'll see what they've got up next!
LOLOL
Indeed! Rotary mixers are very niche, but man, do they rock with the right genres!
Waiting for Omnis Quad ... with physical controls and upgraded version
Maybe that's next on their chopping block!
It's possible, but not everyone has the technical know how to create such casings
@@djcarlo oh, just standard casings there is some out out there are easy to build like starting out for the beginners
I mean it's pros is that it is portability and it's functionality, even good for beginner.
For the cons, price is too high for a graduated DJ. Also the jogs, pad FX button, and knobs are just too small.
I would stick to my FLX-6 GT
That's fair! I do agree with your mini review 🥳
There are no Pad FX, just Cues :D at first i thougt the knobs were to small, but got really fast into it, they feel great, also the jogs (no Sratch DJ, just for beatmatching). ;)
I almost bought this, but no aux in seems silly.
They’re doing Bluetooth!
The facial expressions remind me of late night kitchen gadget commercials in the 90's
Those were good times!
The design is nice. Like an Apple minimalist vibe. Also looks like it’s just for vibey DJing. Maybe house, chill music, throwbacks, etc. Not really new hyper type of DJing with all the effects and transitions. I’d buy it to mess around if it was in the $1k range.
I like the design too! The Opus Quad was a bit too opulent for me, but this one is really nice! Like a glimpse of the future
the only thing i hear people complaining about this device is the price....
In that case this is a great controller ! i have no complaints other than that.
you want the honda or Benz
Indeed! I really like it! It just is a little $$$$ haha
3:54
i bet spotify and youtube are gonna shut that down quick. or make you pay a shit ton.
Good eye. But Alpha Theta got this figure out!
After comparing the Opus Quad to the Denon DJ Prime 4+, I went with the latter. The Pioneer is lacking streaming capes, performance pads and $1500 more. I love my Denon.
Streaming will be coming soon!
I hope there will be better speakers in the future. It would be nice if they teamed up with soundboks
Well, for now, the Omnis Duo is the only controller to have this feature so far. But for sure, things will get better!
jesus christ i've been out of the controller game for a decade or so and prices have absolutely skyrocketed!! gonna be keeping onto my old traktor controller a bit longer and start digging into the used market for a newer one..
They have gotten quite pricey, haven't they?
If the portable was $1000 i would have already copped it.
Maybe that's their goal for a future controller! Technology will get better and less expensive with time
The finish on the omnis duo looks soft and rubberised.
I abuse my crossfaders lol
For Bluetooth, the sound is actually crisp!
