- Pickering Traction Engine Rally returns after a 9 year absence in a new location only a stone throw away from the original.
Last held in 2015 Pickering Rally was one of the largest in the country 2nd only to the Great Dorset Steam Fair.
after not been able to get going the last 2 years its nice too see the return of a steam rally when so many are struggling and folding.
Join Me & stu tune head over to Kirkbymoorside to witness what will happen to small return to rally scene from Tractor pulling with purpose built machines & majestic steam engines. Log sawing with Marshall "Old Lass" & my very own IH McCormick B450 cleaning its throat out after recently fitting a belt pulley to her.
whilst a few people got bored & up sticks to leave those that stayed, played & kept them selves amused Mark Angus & his newly built foster tractor had a go at creating an unofficial Heavy Haulage arena Starting by towing my Doncaster donkey uphill with one side off the brakes locking up, then joined by Hodges Ferguson with reaper cutting then finally adding Tim Wardles David Brown 950 tvo. which the engine managed with ease till the brakes were applied. On the last and final day Hodge put his Volvo wagon & eventually trailer on the back to put Mark & his Daughter through there paces.
Great to see some local engines attending the rally. Love the power of the little steam engine pulling all those tractors and wagons. Let’s hope the rally can take place next year, bigger and better.
Small and mighty, mark was unsure it would pull the B450.
Looks like a good little show that , shame there’s not much public there
I think people came and went all day as there was wasn’t much to keep them occupied.
no better song for a rally than DR Busker - Glory Days
Really nice living van you've got Robbie. I'm after a single axle one for the standard
Cheers it’s my parents it’s an ord an that’s been restored by Rob Laycock it looks the way art at rally’s and tows nicely.
Great watch Robbie!
Let’s hope you can do it all again next year.
Must take the wind out your sails when you lose front of engine, it’s not like you can patch her up and go steady on the way home.
Is it?!🙁
Fingers crossed that hill will used as play pen/heavy haulage hill & might be able to have ago at ploughing in the field below.
RONNIE PICKERING!!!!!
Piss poor attendance, fun fair would be a loss leader in £££, I could count on my 2 hands the amount watching the tractor pulling, trouble now, there appears to be a steam fair within 50 miles going on every 3 weeks, folk are fed up with so many or just can not afford more than one so often
