I absolutely agree. I am going to try and arrange an event like this in the Northeast...I know it would probably do better in Florida but I am not moving back any time soon...
its never been more critically important to be silly, to be non-conforming - i salute all pursuers of silliness as defenders of our defiance and all such pursuits as humanity's last huzzahs
@stejer211 actually several plastics were available when these vehicles were built, including Parkesine & celluloid (1820s), cellulose nitrate (1880s), Bakelite (1907).
This is a lot better than the Festival of Speed at Goodwood. No shouting commentators, suppressing the sound of the engines. It's amazing, how many of these contraptions still exists. The lawn mower race was hilarious.
You know, I reckon each has it's good points. Going fast can be just as enjoyable as going slow, as long as you know how to do both without excess. Schumacher had it right - fast on the track, drove like a Grandad on public roads. It's a pity he had that accident, but no life well lived is without it's risks, and I think he got the best out of everything.
In the late 1950's or so, I used to drive my grandfather's 1908 Maxwell around his neighborhood. Nobody cared that I didn't yet have a driver's license, and the car certainly wasn't insured. Great memories.
Fabulous. I would rarely travel much distance to see a car show, but this is so much fun. I would love to see these wonderful vehicles and their owners.
Thank you soo much for giving us the chance to watch after an accident I'm in a wheelchair watching from Switzerland remembering students time in Wales
Such an incredible event!!!...Living here in the States I definitely want to organize one of these Festivalss. Thank you for making the video and sharing it with us....I love the engineering of all the prewar cycle cars!!!
I am pleased to see Mark Walker made it there. I was chatting to him at Mallory Park as he was setting off to drive to the Slowth. He thought it might be a 6 plus hour journey. No trailers or transporters for him 😮😅😂😅😂
Esse é o privilégio de quem consegue ter uma velhice digna e tranquila .Aqui no Brasil estão nos tirando tudo de nós e uma velhice com dignidade tá sendo um sonho inalcançável para a grande maioria de nós.
Beautiful and wonderful and silly! I would SO like to attend such an event. I don't think there's anything like this in the US, though we do have a few microcar get-togethers. They are fun and silly too, but not at the level of these ancient cyclecars. And power lawnmowers!
Fantastic ! It's very encouraging to see so many younger people there. Thanks a lot. I'm off to figure out ways to slow my Morris minor and Austin Cambridge down.
These are my favourite types of cars of all time, just love it. I'd so love to have a go at driving one of these or owning one even, sadly Canada has nothing like this :( The lawnmower racing is so much fun too! Gloriously wonderful in both spirit and endeavour.
Absolutely wonderful. My first car as a teenager was a Morgan F4, far too powerful for this party! But I have understood the place these machines fulfilled. Tom Rolt had a GN for some years. As Sam Clutton said, or something like it in his book, whetever it was called, Morgan is here to represent the multiude of cycle cars, of whih it was premintly the best! Great fun.
And not 1 electric in the bunch. How refreshing! Compared to modern auto combat on the oval or road, this has to be a whole lot more fun and certainly easier on the checkbook as well. The Welsh Festival of Slowth needs to be cloned anywhere there are roads and wheels. That's all we need. Love it!!!
You need to be careful how you judge things, electric cars were a front runner in the early days with Royce of Rolls Royce predicting they were the future. So its feasible veteran EV’s would be very much at home here.
I was born in 1976 here in the US and the old cars, engines, etc. fascinate me, always have. I love going to see what few old working mills we have here. One that makes wooden rakes to this day, has a Model T Ford engine power the saws and the dowel making machine is an old Hit N Miss engine, both original to the place. If you were to give me a choice between an all original Model T Ford and a new Ferrari, I'm taking the Ford because to me, there's more of a story to tell with that and I would love to say I had and drove one.
Oh goodness. I love this so much- it wouldn't be possible, or feasible at least, for me to join, but at the moment I'm rebuilding a 1926 Model T. So excited hear it putter along when I'm done.
funny how old cars are built without even considering the idea one could crash a car. most cars look like you would fall out your seat, if you hit a bump. but I love these cars :)
This looks like a lot of fun. I've thought of building a cyclecar using the engine, drive and back wheel of a Honda 125cc scooter. All I'd need to do is design and build two front wheels, steering and somewhere to sit.
It must have smelled of castor oil. I also see a lot of ‘white hairs’, just a little less old than these vehicles. The lawnmower race is worth its weight in peanuts! Thank you for these images of a bygone era !!
The whole world needs a festival of slowth

@stejer211 nothing... if you're blind

BRILLIANT!!!
That's because those weren't invented yet.

What a delightful collection of what must rightly be called "contraptions". Thank you for posting this. Cheers from Canada.
Their owners/operators are a delightful collection of "slightly bent" eccentrics...wonderful!
@@johnbastille5483 I have heard it said that in North America, we lock up our eccentrics; in Britain, they revere them!

Best with the volume cranked up, wonderful! The lawn mower race, with the winner crouching down for less aero drag (at 4 mph) was great.
Lovely! i wish I was there... Thanks for sharing!

Best wishes from a now homesick Englishman making armour in a French forest. ⚒️🇬🇧⚒️
Now THIS is original and wonderfully quirky!!! 👍👍👍
That looked like a LOT of FUN, some lovely machines there, thanks for sharing.
This may be the best reason to move to Wales. What an adorable pack of Phools.
Absolutely brilliant and love it.
These machines look early 1900s, when it was revolutionary to move like that.
Applause to you all... thanks✌️🇬🇧

True British traditions...

Switched over from Goodwood bike racing, not disappointed. Lovely stuff. Thank you. keith

thankyou so much for the footage once again nick, I love seeing this event every year
WOW! Those people really know how to PARTY!! Looks like a whole lot of FUN! And I LOVE the lawnmower race. Very creative! Thank you!
