How nice to see that there are many who didn't think Love Story was a great movie. It was a totally irritating kind of thing. O well, life goes on. This is quite witty.
I would love for Carol to do a show now that she put all the work into like this show from then. Like I would love to see her version of Forrest Gump, or the new action flicks like Mission Impossible, Charlie's Angels & more!!
I remember watching this sketch when it first aired, and it was one of the first times that I laughed so hard I actually teared-up (the first time I experienced "I laughed so hard that I cried!") Brilliant parody, writing and acting.
To think that there was a few years in m which this, "Mary Tyler Moore," "Bob Newhart," "All in the Family," "M*A*S*H," and the first five seasons of "The Walton's" were all being broadcast over the course of the same week - and on the same network.
The damned thing is, Harvey's and Carol's dialogue in that opening scene isn't one bit more sappy or ridiculous than that in the actual book and film. The most enduring mystery about "Love Story" is how Erich Segal -- a professor of classical literature, who translated the works of Plautus -- could have written it.
@@lenawagenfuehr53 No, I DID mean Plautus -- the comic Roman playwright who died in 184 BC. The Stephen Sondheim musical "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum" was derived in large part from the works of Plautus.
We have this movie to thank for the fact that there were too many baby girls named Jennifer that were born in the early 70s. Way, way too many Jennifers. This was so popular and Ali McGraw's character made so many young women swoony enough to name their daughters after her. I know, I have a sister born in 1973 who is named Jennifer because our mother just adored Love Story. Of course Mom outgrew it and came to think this movie was cringy. My sister has always been miffed that the name was so over-used - she has about a dozen friends named Jennifer and always meets Jennifers around her age. Kinda the same thing happened in the 90s with too many baby girls named Rachel. Don't name your kids after movie and TV characters.
The big name in the late 80s and early 90s was Darryl because of Darryl Hannah's huge popularity at the time. I'm guessing Hannah was popular too, but don't know.
@@inkyguy not true. I never meet anyone named Daryl and i lived in NYC all my life and there are millions of ppl in NYC, still not one Daryl. I travelled all over and still never met anyone named Daryl. Just because u want it to be true, doesn’t make it true. Daryl Hannah was never that famous. Nobody named their kid after her. It wasn't just from that film that so many baby girls in that period were named Jennifer. In some cases it was also naming after Jennifer O'Neill, the co-star of the big hit "Summer of '42."
