Didn’t Alina start that when she started winning the European championships then the world championships. No doubt she would’ve won this if it wasn’t for the hoop.
I’m obsessed with Raskina. She was really special and so engaging and beautiful. I thought it was her turn this time. Such a silly mistake with hoop. So so close. Thought she could have been given higher scores on rope and ball, too. But Barsukova deserved the win if for no other reason than that iconic ball routine. Amazing. That balance she did at the end, when she goes into rélevé and holds it for several seconds after the music ends. ICONIC.
These were undoubtedly the last Olympics where there was a change between gymnastics or a step from this much more sporty rhythmic gymnastics with great track management and a high level of expression and classical dance, so many figures of rhythmic gymnastics gathered by once a real show, thank you!

Great competition, fabulous gymnasts, but absolutely horrendous camera work. The zoom-ins and the overhead shots, at the expense of being able to see the routines clearly, were unbearable.
Wow!

I haven't really watched Rhythmic Gymnastics before, only Artistic but this was amazing! I loved every single routine; the women are all so talented! The judges surely struggle to allocate scores. I am definitely going to watch more of this sport in the future. Do you people have any suggestions on where to start?
A new fan? Welcome to RG! You might notice how rhythmic has changed through the years even only by watching the Olympics. 2008, 2012, 2016 editions are all uploaded here, so you might start with them.
Avoid Kabaeva after 2001 so you're not immediately disillusioned by it all... Also, other than the Spain Group Ribbons Routine for the final in Rio 2016 or the Belarus Ropes QUALIFICATION routine for Beijing 2008, probably seek out World and European Championships videos instead... I always found the Olympic performances a bit of a nervous mess for most gymnasts, especially relative to the preceding Spring-Summer seasons before the Games. It was always a disappointment to watch the Olympics, where their execution was never at the top of their game and there was a lot of apparatus difficulty taken out of the routines at the last minute (to avoid some apparatus risks, I assume).
Now Raskina is the coach of Varfolomeeva from Germany, who won 5 gold medals at 2023 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships. Raskina was the best German coach of 2022 last year.
Now you guys are talking I was 2 years old then so approximately iv waited for 20yrs to watch this Please we need Beijing 08 group and Athens 04 group and individual too Thanks
Can’t believe Kabaeva made the podium with that error. The bronze should have been for Eva Serrano... by the way, I didn’t remember that those camera angles were so terrible, sometimes it’s impossible to see the apparatus or even the gymnast’s performances 😬
Serrano once said in an interview it's "hard to break the east Block " buuuut, at OG Tokyo 2020, she was a judge. Hmmm, sooo...why did the Averina twins got lower Scores?🤨
So, why does the rhythmic gymnastic only has 2 events(team & individual all-around)? Why can't it have finals for each apparatus like that of artistic gymnastics?
There are in apparatus finals in other events like Worlds, but im pretty sure the Olympic committee allocates a set number of medals for each sport category. They dont have enough allocated medals to have an apparatus final.
20:40 that is clearly a drop and she also won the gold? 🤔🤔 I wonder why Russian fans are getting angry when Linoy who dropped the ribbon win gold too 😥😥

I was just noticing the same thing. All this time I'd thought it certainly did... but actually playing it back now at slow motion it looks like it is barely in... and if I remember correctly, the apparatus can be ON the line (like in Tennis) and it doesn't warrant a deduction. I don't know if they played back on slow-motion back then if there were differing judging that needed be reconciled. Honestly though... Tchachina was far and above much better than that entirely overrated podium. The one thing about Raskin, though, she had some serious lean muscle mas... such a contrast to all the other girls in this final.
