- In this video, we show you how to make Swahili Mital, which is also known as Soft Mitai (Mithai), and are Frosted Sugar Donuts. These Soft Mitai are popular in Kenya and Tanzania, and often enjoyed with a cup of tea! The Swahili Mitai are a popular Ramadan snack, but can be enjoyed at any time! They are like mini donuts that are covered in a sugar frosting.
To make the Swahili Mitai, you will need:
1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 egg
1 tsp yeast activated in a little warm water with 1 tbs sugar
enough coconut milk to form into a dough
oil for frying
To make the sugar syrup for the Soft Mithai, you will need:
up to 1 cup sugar (we used half cup sugar)
1/2 cup water
1 tsp cardamom powder
optional: 1 tsp rose water
Keep stirring the mitai in the syrup whilst on low-medium flame until the frosting appears. This can take around 5 minutes. Once the Swahili donuts are frosted, turn off the flame.
The Swahili Mitai is incredibly delicious and such a perfect tea-time snack. They can be stored in an air-tight containers.

Very yummy indeed 😋
All these things you are introducing is my kind of taste, I will definitely make this one day as I finally managed to find the yeast. We do make plain with just salt and cumin version of this very similar and bigger in size, we call it “fulechas” and eat with mainly nonveg curry.
They are also almost identical to shakarpara in the subcontinent and I think there is a salty version too called namakpara
@@imran.familykitchen ohh, i thought this is much softer in texture like sweet bhatura. Shakkarpara are crispy, crunchi and we don't add yeast in it. Do these come out crispy?, then i might be wrong to judge. I will only be able to know once i try.😊
First of all Huge Congratulations on 1K !!
