The real benefit back then is children being exposed to a perfect example of real singing, superior singing, tone and phrasing and breath control, without out all the Diva opera crap. She finished this song beautifully and gets the emotion out of it instead of "it's all about me and my skill" attitude. Brilliant, there will never be another Linda Ronstadt. She could sing anything, without butchering it, actually improving it.
It's the Muppets. She's singing to Kermit. And yet she pulls it off in a way that brings tears to my eyes. What an amazing woman. Thank-you Ms. Ronstadt!
When I was really little, my Dad used to play this for me and tell me to always remember this is how much he loved me. He’ll be passed four years in a couple weeks, and I’ve been having a hard time, and for 5 straight days I woke up with this playing in my head. So I had to find a video of her singing it. So very glad I found this incredible one with my beloved Muppets! Thank you! 🙏🏻❤️💚💗

When one looks at the achievements of Linda Ronstadt it becomes obvious that she is a musical genius. If she had been stricken with the disease that took he voice what she would be now is incredible. There is nobody now, the past or in the future who can or will hold a candle to her. I suggest that even Jimmie Rodgers would shed a tear if he were here and heard her sing songs he wrote nearly 100 years ago. Patsy Cline was good, we lost her then, along came Linda Ronstadt .
I started this song feeling jealous of Kermit...and finished it with tears rolling down my face. I imagine that must have been a magical day to have been on the set....
WOW Wonderful version of a great oldie by one of the most incredible female vocalists of all time, together with Kermit. Why don't people comment on the clip & forget about all the other dribble?
This was filmed at the height of Linda's rock and roll career and it's evident she was reaching back to the standards/American songbook which ultimately gave way to her "What's New" album.
This is sweet. My late mum and dad both loved this song and, although I liked Linda best in her rock days, I can see the attraction here. She sings it well.
Johnny come lately here but totally in agreement In fact many artist 's have stated their appearances on the MUPPET show involved some of their best work !!~! enjoy!
What a sad song! Linda Ronstadt sang it so beautiful. So sad is that she can no longer sing on earth, but her glorious songs shared in a form of video remain in my memory.
@@sacredcoww Is that a reference to Herman's Hermits ? I think so this is just a great throwback to my childhood and what a voice LINDA had i need to find more clips like this as this will lull me into a blissful sleep CHEERS mate .
A fine New Orleans Jazz Band just posted a good version of this old chestnut. So, I had to watch this, the best ever. I still want to know how they made Fozzie Bear look so enthralled; like the rest of us.
yes thanks so uplifting to hear this and yes what a beauty she was here i wonder if the muppeteers were struggling to not cry off camera [well they're off-camera anyways !!] but i certainly am getting misty -eyed ! ENJOY THE HOLDAYS !!
This is my favorite version of this beautiful song. There is an elusive "something" that really requires Kermit and the other Muppets to sing with Linda.
@@jodycascio567 So true. Her vocal cords must be made of steel as they have remained perfectly intact-it's the messaging that has malfunctioned. Truly am sorry for Ms. Ronstadt (and us) that she can no longer experience the physical exhilaration and emotional pleasure of singing with her friends, be it Emmylou or Kermit! I've watched this at least 50 times. I will never be too old to love the way Linda Ronstadt delivers this great song.

100% true we had people who loved music and respected the art of it now it's just celebrity and fame. A rarity to be so talented.
Perhaps the finest moment of The Muppet Show! God Bless and keep Jim Henson and crew for making our childhoods a Wonder!
This is definitely one of Linda Ronstadt's best performances

Me too.
And me. X
could not agree more
Linda harmonizes with the muppets, then flicks a switch and instantly that voice just soars. I am in awe
Sheer magic. Can't stop weeping. Fozzie's accompanying on the piano made all the difference. So beautiful.
That was Rolf (the pianist dog), not Fozzie Bear
@@OffGrid9 Thanks.

May be the best performance she ever gave on television.

First there was Patsy Cline and then along came Linda Ronstadt. If there was a God she would still entertain us. She is the best.

Wow! Excellent. The best version of this old song I’ve ever heard
wow, awesome ! Linda, Kermit, the Muppet Band and Chorus. Fab harmony, sweetness, and passion !
The way she ends that song send chills up my spine. Just beautiful.

Linda Ronstadt is what happens when the universe decides to show off a little bit
I've loved her since childhood. I remember watching this when it originally aired. I was absolutely in heaven! Linda, kermit and miss piggy too. 😁
no one is ever too old to dream!
but memories are very nice too...
Oh, My! My first celebrity crush, and she nailed this tune. No one will ever equal her range and intensity.

To have been a muppeteer on that day; part of the magic. I wonder just how many times it was that they had to do this to make it perfect?

delightful! ...love the heads nodding at the end
Not sure the folks on the set of that show expected that. She may have been singing with a felt frog, but she sang that like she was at Carnegie Hall.
What a gorgeous Song.
I'm 65 and many years ago,my mother saw this and told me that she remembered her mother would sing this song to her....the song originated in 1934...
Love this, and Linda too, oh, and The Muppets.

Interesting. Kermit rarely wore any clothes except for a spiky collar, but he wore a suit for Linda Ronstadt.
