Two of my favorite performers. I love Randy but Linda takes my breath away still to this day at 73 years old. There’s a lot of crap on UA-cam but the ability to go back and watch her sing Long , Long Time. Priceless.
Yesterday I was at work listening to KPIG (the GREATEST radio station in the world), just like I do every Saturday. KPIG is from the Santa Cruz area and streams on the Internet. All of a sudden I hear this song and it sounds like The Eagles but was not familiar with the song. When I looked on the computer where it shows what is playing, I saw it was this song, Rider In The Rain, by Randy Newman. I am a big Randy Newman fan so this morning I did some digging and this song is on a 1977 Randy Newman album called Little Criminals. A few more clicks showed me the liner notes from the album, remember liner notes. Guess what! It was The Eagles backing him. Not bad backup singers!! When we mix Randy Newman with The Eagles the result is spectacular. Of course, we can't go wrong with Randy Newman, Linda Ronstadt, and Ry Cooder. I am 76 and still get excited when I learn things about some of the greatest music ever made.
Hey Benecio, isn't it glorious to find ther fabulous! It just takes you back to ther times in it lives when all the simple things were all we needed. Im still into the simple way of life and also into the music of that time. Have another listen while I have you here , lol. Peace.
Same here. We may be old in the here and now, but I believe there is an existence that transcends time and place. Linda will be singing again and there will be enough "gigs" to fill eternity.
Been listening to the PIG for 25 years now (streaming) the GREATEST without question. Used to drive up to SC from LA just to listen on the radio. Praise the Lard
A great example of LR's respect for other singers when singing harmonies. Really belts out her solo, but dials it right back when she needs to. Absolute class.
Indeed. Spoke with a guy who played with her in the studio and on the road in the 80s. After he gushed about her being adorable he said " her musical chops were deep and generous" Very rare songbird
@@robertoc2437Thank you for sharing that insight about Ms. Ronstadt. Confirmed by so many other singers and musicians. Aside from the pain and discomfort she experiences from her condition-supranuclear palsy-I feel so sad that she cannot sing with her family and friends. Think she only sang to audiences in packed arenas because she had to, but a venue like this and singing with Randy and Ryan was Heaven to her.
I am looking at this again in the time of Covid 19 and I just love the music but it is funny. No-one does funny like Randy Newman and Ry Cooder and the gorgeous Linda play along. It almost makes me cry, seeing and listening to it now but it ought to be more out there.People need it.
One of my favorite Linda videos is when she dissolves in laughter due to the "attack of the killer bubbles" during a Nelson Riddle concert. Literally, had to start over.
This is amazing when you look at it objectively. Linda Ronstadt who is unequalled in country, folk rock and pop, Randy Newman one of the sharpest, cleverest song-writers ever and Ry Cooder - beyond talented bluesman. They are together; basically jamming and having fun. What a gem
una mckillen / Agreed. And re: Linda Ronstadt: Don't forget the American Standards Song Book. Have you heard her wonderful 3 album series with Nelson Riddle Orchestra?
Oh my freekin' God - Linda Ronstadt is a super-being here - as gorgeous as any young woman ever was, and an unmatched set of pipes. Any man alive would give anything to see that twinkle in her eyes as she joshes with Randy Newman. Wow...
Wow…I admit that Randy Newman is a terrific songwriter, but his getting to sit on the piano bench next to and sing with Linda Ronstadt? Some guys have all the luck! 😃. Seriously, they are both terrific, as is Ry Cooder, who joins them on this song. They each deserve all good things. Thanks for posting this great video. Cheers!
@@keving9233 - That style of garb was popularized by Madonna (her Like A Virgin era). Looking at it now it is very dated, it was fashionable at that time. Personally, I favor the style of dress from the Nelson Riddle videos and concerts. Very classy.
Not to belabor the point, but you know Randy realized how lucky he was to be singing with Linda when he made the offhand self-deprecating comment during the song, “”This is like Joan Sutherland with Kermit the Frog.” Sort of like the expression, “from the sublime to the ridiculous.” Great video!
I’m so glad to see someone else feels this way about Rider in the Rain. One of my favorite concerts of all time was Randy Newman and Ry Cooder in St Louis in the mid 70s.
I find it more than sad but maybe it is me who is sad. All three of these guys are of my vintage but they are talented, witty and, I think, stand the test of time. Still, I cannot sell one of them to younger colleagues. I just love this post.
+una mckillen dont worry too much my son just loves this stuff and even has an old school record player that he just loves. The support i ve seen from guys my age helping him find the perfect pink floyd or Neil young record is just great
I love this...such a basic song structure but Randy captures such magic in that simplicity as he has demonstrated in all his sound tracks and nominations...
Linda's such a perfectionist it was her love to sing .she didnt want to get high she was the real deal.if she believed in a song it meant she wanted to sing it her way. A PURE UNIQUE..JUST LISTEN
she did a lot of drugs...especially cocaine. Not to say that she didn't love singing, but lets not fool ourselves into thinking that she didn't do as many drugs as the rest of them
All right all you aspiring vocalists. What is happening here is that each of these people is doing two parts listening to one part singing. What happens is that you end up with the whole being greater than the sum of its parts.
I so like your comment. It says something about the selflessness that should be t the heart of serious, successful song-writing and singing. We so lack it now but these guys so had it.
Gosh, Dan and Nicholas, makes me so happy to see that you just revisited this video. It really has been "The Year of Linda Ronstadt!" The documentary released in September was thrilling to watch and to hear her in a theater was bliss; the Kennedy Center Honors event a week ago was incredibly emotional. The performance by this trio is just irresistible. I hope they were having half as much fun as it looked like they were!
Ahh Linda Ronstadt, a rare and remarkable songbird. You either get her or you don't. But if you do the rewards are are deep and broad - musically and beyond. Sigh...
It's so inspirational to see artists collaborating willingly for the sake of their craft. I cannot overestimate my respect for Linda Ronstadt for contributing so much to the music of her time.
"There are two kinds of men in this world. Those with a. crush on Linda Ronstadt and those who never heard of. her." - Willie Nelson.
That is so true.

“There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who divide humanity into two kinds and those who don’t.” - Robert Benchley.😂

I agree with you on Linda and especially that song. Still gives me goosebumps.
Linda was always about the music, never showboating. Her catalog is a master class in musical phrasing.

The Eagles were originally the back-up band of Linda Ronstadt

What a treat, no big stage production, just pure talent. Wonderful harmonies.
I guess I just like to watch talented musicians who don’t take themselves too seriously.
A great example of LR's respect for other singers when singing harmonies. Really belts out her solo, but dials it right back when she needs to. Absolute class.
Playing with others 101. Sad how many forget this in sessions!

Umm....no. That's just the basics on how we sing songs with others.
You know they rehearse as well right?
Three of the best ever, doing what they do, and having a blast. Perfect.
That’s a lot of talent singing that tune. Back when we were all young and strong and beautiful.
And now decrepit and emaciated .

How can you not love Linda when she giggles during a song!? 💕
Downright liquored up silly, that girl.
One of my favorite Linda videos is when she dissolves in laughter due to the "attack of the killer bubbles" during a Nelson Riddle concert. Literally, had to start over.
This is one of my FAVOURITE things on UA-cam (and there's an awful lot of things on UA-cam to choose from.)
Seeing this just makes me so happy. Great musicians all. Miss hearing Linda sing so much 😢
Some things we can still love about 'America'. These people are the real deal and so's their talent. Love them.

Do they still do good stuff like this?
I agree. And, as one of the most successful country singers of all time, she should be in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Luminous. Beautiful.
Yes, it’s a word. And you found the proper occasion on which to use it, friend! She is indeed “luminous.” Cheers!

For me, at least, this ranks in the top 10 of everything on UA-cam. Talent, humor, intimate setting, genius!
Wow - this should be worth millions !
Linda always enjoyed singing with her friends.

Usually listen to different kinds of music (blues, rock, alternative). But really like this 😊

So much talent on that stage ….
Ry Cooder has a warm quality in tone, a sultry voice. These three on stage have beautiful singing, and playing.
Two cool cats and a doe eyed beauty with great pipes. Terrific stuff. Linda...sigh
I don't know how Ry Cooder kept a straight face through that one. Randy certainly had Linda giggling.
I forgot all about this song after so many years. 3 of my favourite people looking nice and young and Linda singing so well as she always does
This is a favorite song of mine and has special meaning. I loved seeing and hearing this version of it.
I’m so glad to see someone else feels this way about Rider in the Rain. One of my favorite concerts of all time was Randy Newman and Ry Cooder in St Louis in the mid 70s.

I want this played at my funeral.
Some of my favorite performers together. Gotta love it!!!

TRIO great to hear now on a crispy cold winterday in Zwolle
They "played" that song and had more fun for it. Loved it.
