  • My brother Ryan and his girlfriend Courtney were home on vacation and we decided to explore Letchworth State Park located in the southern tier of New York State. Letchworth State Park is known for it’s three waterfalls, scenic hiking, and railroad bridge which spans the gorge. This has been called the “Grand Canyon of the East” by some and I can see why. With cliffs as high as 600 in some areas, the views and landscapes are spectacular.
This was our first time exploring Letchworth State Park and we did not have a trail map for our first leg of the journey and got a bit lost at the beginning. We eventually got back on the right trail and were able to view two of the three falls up close.

Teddy R. In early 1900s when he was NYS Governor and Mr. Letchworth gave to the State!

Actually, there are about 30 waterfalls at Letchworth, only about 6 are seen from the western side of the park.

I know what you did. You crossed over the stone bridge and went up those stairs to the east side of the park. The east side is more remote. Mostly for mountain biking because it is less scenic and quieter.

Yes! it was nice over there, but not as well marked so we didn't know where we should be going next, we eventually figured it out. Beautiful park though.

It also has a rustic dirt rood near the edge of gorge, with no guard rails. It has remote rustic cabins you can rent, these cabins are off grid. I would highly recommend a 4wd truck if you want to camp on the east side of the park.
