    Good stuff. Been tearing in to lanterns for years but I am working on my first milspec. Very helpful. Appreciate it.

    Another great video 📹
    Now was that not the easiest valve you have removed now that you have a vice?
    Now you need to get to the hardware store and get a long flexible spring like you used to see on the old screen doors 🚪 to pull them shut.
    It's perfect for running up inside the air tube to remove blockage.
    After using one you can't believe you had gotten along without one.
    Thanks for the shout out my friend.
    God bless.

    The broken glass could possibly be saved using a heat resistant glue. Thanks for sharing.

    It would be nice if you had the lantern closer so we can see what you were doing

    At the flare end of my 1958 generator tube there looks to be some off white thread balled up inside of there.. Is that supposed to be there or should the tube be completely clear all the way through to the screw in orifice

    Does Robert sell the lantern vices? I just restored a 252 that is not a Coleman. Mine is a SMP (State Metal Products) made by prisoners. I also just completely restored a Coleman 425 no letter stove that was made between 1920 and 1930 with the cylindrical copper colored tank. I generally use electrolysis to remove paint/rust. I have an old 10 gal. plastic trash can and a 4 amp battery charger and use washing soda for the solution for electrolysis. I have used citric acid and vinegar (not together) as a method for removing rust and corrosion. I restored a Coleman 502 single burner that I use for heating up the vinegar or citric acid. I can never get mine to burn right. Using the originalmsize mantle but its over fueling. Cant figure it out. Im thinking maybe a restriction in airtube, perhaps? I have not blown it out. Might try that tomorrow.

      @darrellbigdaddydcarter9224 it's a new generator. Tiny, tiny hole. Can't hardly see it with my reading glasses on. It's got to be an air issue.

      Ok Darrell, here is what I found. I saw another video that talked about the fuel pickup tube and making sure that it is completely torn apart and cleaned. I found debris in the thin groove on the inner tube that was restricting the air flow from the little holes on the outer tube. Maybe you could do a video on the fuel pickup tubes? Don't replace them, tear them down and clean the hell out of them!

    Are the generators on the military lantern just a empty tube or is there a spring or other parts in it ?

    • @darrellbigdaddydcarter9224
      @darrellbigdaddydcarter9224  Рік тому

      Their is actually a wick inside them no spring their is a tip with a tiny hole but you have ti use your tool to clean it

    Having personally used these lanterns and the M1950 stove in the Army, and used Coleman lanterns and stoves all my civilian life as well, the folks who thought THIS was the design to supply the troops should have court martialed. Same goes with the M1950 stove. Don't get me wrong, they are fun to play with and I have a few of each. But they are a pain in the ass. But the most puzzling thing to me is it almost seems the purposely designed failure into both. The generator on these, without a decent way to clean the gas tip in operation and the pump on the M1950. WTF? They put the right pump on this lantern. Why didn't they use the same pump on the stove? Ridiculous IMO. They could have retained the storage in the pump tube AND had a check valve and air snorkel on the stove. They CERTAINLY should have made an easily serviced and replaceable generator on the lantern with an integrated cleaning needle that could handle leaded gasoline, just like they did on the stove. Rant complete. Haha! Nice video, keep up the good work.

      @@darrellbigdaddydcarter9224 I think the best military lantern design would have used the 252s fount with 200A parts above that with quad pane glass. The perfect single mantle lantern IMO. Damn, I just had a eureka moment! Haha!
