Very well presented. Thank you for taking the time to do the video. I believe what you presented applies to many, perhaps most, of the Specktrum programmable radios. Probably would be the same or very similarly for the OrangeRX 6 and 10 channel radios.

Glad it was helpful! Same type of principal any how. That's why I did an exaggerated example of how it affects the control surfaces.

My local Hobby Shop expert simple example for the rate setting was he sets the Rates 20 and over for older pilots and set rates lower then 20 are for younger pilots.

I am a bit more conservative and prefere 30% expo but its all about what feels right.

its quite interesting how we all fly with our own settings for each aircraft - LOL - something I have learnt to do with my DX9 is to add multiple speech to the same switch - so for example it can be made to say "as3x mode off" or " as3x mode on " rather than just "as3x mode" - regarding rates and expo - I always set high, medium and low - even if the manual only gives you high and low , on expo - I always fly with 30% expo - I have no idea why - I just like it that way - good video - Regarding the F - 3 on the F4F - VF3 is the Squadron number for the "Felix the cat" squadron - and F-3 is Fighter No. 3.

I wish you had done this video 5 1/2 years ago. After the brutal Apprentice 15s build, I had to figure out how the DX8 worked. I had the sticks figured out, but no idea what dual rates, expo and CG was. I watched a video on both and I figured that was for the “Advanced” Flyers and messengers of Satan. (Very confusing) So I flew the Apprentice and the Timber UMX for about a year at 100% 0% expo... and a WHOLE LOT of SAFE.

Its amazing how similar my experience was to yours. Then I found Flite Test and Josh Bixler. When he explained it in one of his "HOW TO" videos it all made sense to me. He is blessed with a way to put things into simple terms that non rc people could understand. I actually met he once and he is just the same off camera as on , respectable , mannered and very approachable .

@@FatGuyFliesRC I watched that “10 Part Series” at least 10 times. 3 or 4 of the videos I watched 20 or 30. When I got the 2nd Timber UMX I stumbled on Brian Phillips doing the build and all these tips and tricks with CA and paper towels, painting your prop tips, hot glue, etc.
But the VIDEO THAT CHANGED MY FLYING WORLD was this extremely well dressed, very articulate gentleman flying a Dynam Hawksky.
(I was flying the WL Toys 3 channel pushprop) 3 things he said was my game changer as a beginner-
You don’t have to takeoff at 100% throttle. 75% and the plane will climb after a start off dip. Count to 3. If the plane is climbing and flying straight, continue. If the plane isn’t climbing or veering left or right, abort, kill the throttle, check your control surfaces and battery placement. If all is good back then throttle down to 50%.
This all sounds silly now, but if you’re brand new in the sport and no one you know flies, I was taking off at 100% and everything happening in the first 3-5 seconds was reaction, panic, and over correction. And of course in the hard lefts, hard rights, hard up elevator, followed by hard down elevator it was a recipe for a crash. You should have me the first time I got 40-50 feet up and killed the throttle and soared for an entire lap. “I didn’t know know this plane could glide!”
Anyway, those first few months were tough! Figuring out the planes, the transmitter, batteries, and battery chargers. I don’t want anyone getting into the sport to ever have to go what I went through. If I ever do a video it’s going to be directed to helping first timers. And a link to Flite Test’s 10 part series for Beginners

@@tomanderson9979 Hi Tom. Thanks for bringing back all those bad memories. LOL! Amazing what a few years can do to your quality of flying and how to setup a radio. I’m guessing over the past few years my Rates and Expo is 90/30, 70/30. I have a few edf’s that is more comfortable at 60/50. Ironically the old Apprentice (it’s now a float plane) and the Timber Turbo are both being flown at 100/20. It’s all just getting a feel for the plane and the radio. And for me, a lot of crashing and repairing. After 8 years I can fly anything, but landing jets I still suck.

I have (I think you know ) repainted my F4F to Pre war colours found that I could see it much better in the Yellow wing, silver fuselage colours.

Orientation is key that's for sure. What ever makes the model easier to see. Black planes look cool but suck when up high. I will take yellow or sliver any day!

I watched all your videos on the F86 and thought all my problems were solved.
Wrong. My AR620 doesn't fit where you have yours(did you remove any foam?)
There are two wires coming from the rear of the fuselage that aren't marked and the manual isn't like an e flight manual. And my nx6 seams very different than your nx9.

    • @FatGuyFliesRC
      @FatGuyFliesRC  2 роки тому

As far as those little yellow wires I have no Idea. Maybe something if you were using a futaba system. With the AR620 I have it wedges and doubled sided taped in next to the Vector system. I did not remove any foam. It is a very tight fit however.

    • @FlankerTanker

Flaps when not in use are lever with the main wing - they normally have two settings (In the downward direction) - the first setting would be approx. 50% of the total downward movement (although this can set to any amount) is normally known as Take off flaps - then the 2nd stage is another 50% down again this can be set to any amount but in my example (making the flap 100% down) this is known as Landing flaps or FULL FLAPS - you can return the flaps back to being level with the wing "no flaps" - aka "FLAPS UP." Hope this helps.
