Technical correction: the chorus effect, as well as the vibrato, is generated through only one of the two internal amps, the second of which is dry. This mix design is actually what creates the JC's unique, lush sound.
I play the JC 120 for 40 years now, although my first '76 one is broke. I have a ' 80 s now. I pair it sometimes with a Fender HotRod DeVille. The JC rules!
I used one in 2005/2006. Gigged with it 6 times. Got really sick in 2007, so I sold it. But I will say this: The loudest mp I ever played thru. Bought it off the floor at West Chester Music in West Chester, PA. Only problem was the damn thing was so heavy. Hell Id buy 2 JC55s and stereo split them. One helluva amp.
Got a jc120 today... There was 2 in store... A 1982 model and a 90's model..I played them side by side , exact same tone/volume settings. The vintage 1982 BLEW AWAY THE NEWER MODEL IN TONE, VOLUME, OPERATIONAL NOISE(hiss). If you can get a early 80's and older vintage model GRAB IT you won't be disappointed.
I’ve had an 80’s JC-120 and a 77 from 1990-something. Both were excellent, and there’s nothing really like that chorus sound. Nice to see a 77 again. Thanks for the demo.
@@JonEleyetGuitar I've been experimenting with my Boss DD-7 and the stereo output into the JC-40. Even though the speakers are that far apart, you can achieve some cool effects.
Missed the mark a bit. These amps take pedals exceptionally well, especially delays, reverbs and modulation. Should have demonstrated that aspect as this makes them extremely versatile.
Hey, thanks for watching. I appreciate the feedback. Maybe my prejudice against solid state amps was a little strong and I didn't give the JC enough credit... I do, however, use my Jazz Chorus and AC-30 in a stereo configuration and run my pedalboard into them with great results.
@@michaelcraig9449 I own both a vintage 120 and 77. I've only once tried using the 77 with a drive pedal, a vintage Japanese made SD-1 and it was nothing to write home about. I'm fortunate to own other amps that are substantially better sounding at taking drive pedals. I have heard people say the Roland amps work well with Rat style pedals as well as various Boss overdrives, etc. Again, there are better amps out there for this purpose. The older Music Man amps with the solid state preamp and tube preamp are much better with overdrive and distortion pedals. They're like a combination of the Roland and Fender amps but with a beefier sound due to the larger transformers. There is a band called DIIV that used JC-120s on their first two albums. You can look up their pedalboards online and see what drive pedals they used. I will say though that they went in a much more distorted direction on their third album. This is the reason they have now moved away from the Roland amps and use Vox, HiWatt clones, etc. for their newer material. If you want further advice on drive pedals with the Jazz Chorus amps I would join the Jazz Chorus Facebook group and post a question there.
Lovely amps! I wonder how much a 12’’ and a 10’’ speaker size translates into a mix.. Been a long time since I’ve last worked with a JC120, I loved mic’ing it up! Wonder how a JC77 would sound, never played one.
@@JonEleyetGuitar i have a “fender satellite” and wow. I don’t want to throw shade at the roland jc because its not bad. But the fender satellite tops it for a lush chorus for sure. If you ever see one in the flesh please try it.
OK FINALLY someone demonstrates the 77 watt model.. I have this one, is it the most rare of them or what? Hey what are the best OD and distortion pedals for the 77 watt model or the other ones also? What pedals of all types work best with this one? Can you post it up? Thanks.
Is the thing you played at around 4:00 from any particular song or just a jam you came up with? Cos I really like it wanna listen to a full song of that.
@@JonEleyetGuitar well I beg to differ, but you sir are wrong on that note because I play everything from clean luscious ambience to the heaviest of down tuned metal with my JC-120 in the mix and it sounds ridiculously awesomeness as I will be adding a second JC-120 to the mix in the near future because the results were so molten H🔥T me ears were on fire with pure joy!!!😁
Gede yes, yes it will... and dumbfoundingly so. Also a lil' trick Johnny Boy doesn't know because he isn't an adventurous player as he says "Well...I mean...no...not really" as he wrongfully stated. So take and plug if you have them, your compressor, distortion/overdrive and 10 band eq into your 2nd channel Low input and then take a patch cable and plug it into the Low input of channel 1 and the other end to the High input of the 2nd channel and enjoy... oh and you're welcome!🤘😁 🎶🎵🎼🎸🎼🎵🎶
Show me Show me Show me how you do that trick. The one that makes it sheen she said. The one that makes it clean she said. And turned the chorus up to 10

Awesome info. Thanks for sharing.

Big win. You had the best video on youtube this morning.
Gretsch and Jazz Chorus is a wonderful combination, G5420T + JC40 here, love ´em!
Awesome combo! Love the sound
Cool review thank you. Cute trick with the 40.

Great review. Thank you.
Sounds awesome. You deserve far more views than you have.
The distortion isn’t good, but the clean and chorus Is lush.
Thanks so much! It never gets old switching the chorus on. I'm always amazed at how good it sounds.
Get a good dirt box and you are set
i like any video where just like heaven is played

When you playing guitar youtube auto subtitles define it like laughter and music.

Entre JC-85 e o JC-77, qual tem o melhor som para o 3D tradicional da Roland?
You should add a JC-40 to the lineup. Stereo input! :)
Ooo that sounds cool

Elephant which are the best OD and dist. pedals to use with the JC? Do you know? If so post it up ok?

I just bought a jc 50 and its identical to yours except it doesn’t have the chorus/vib out! Why is this??
I don't know?! That's weird though.

How much hiss with the 77? Both the other amps have a stereo line out, so one side would be dry and the other the effect

Yeah I literally can't find any for sale on the internet lol
I guess one of the rarest one is the JC-80. Maybe the 15" didn't attract many people.

'Just Like Heaven' by The Cure. Listen to it right now. It'll change your life.
What is your guitar in this video?
Isn't it Gretsch streamliner ?
What's it like on bass?
Does it metal?
Well...I mean...no...not really
It will clean metal lmao. Metallica used them for their clean chorus sound

Looks like a paid sponsor to me.
I hear a Prince tone

The drive on the 77 is cool, unique..but useless on the 120. Chorus is way too dated.
Clearly not the amps for you then...
