I said early on that whoever developed the game would absolutely have no choice but to make a great game. If they managed to fumble this i really think Spike would've been in really bad shape considering its track record. Grateful we got this game and even more thankful that so far it's a great product. Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel they just refinded it and made it better looking.
I’m not a huge fighting game fan and typically don’t ever get very good at them because they don’t interest me enough to put the time in to get good. So far I have been OBSESSED with this game! It’s the first fighting game that’s really grabbed me enough to put in the practice time and reps to actually become decent at it. The fights are so cinematic whether it’s offline or online it’s like I’m watching the anime. Even my girlfriend has been hooked and much like myself she never really picks up fighting games (other than smash bros) this will be a game that I put endless hours into. It was definitely well worth the wait in my opinion.
With apparently missing smaller fights, I hope I can make a big catalog of my own custom battles to fill those in. I’ll just pause and create them as I go maybe, for fun.
I've been playing with Japanese audio and the lip syncing is surprisingly perfect. Impressively so, even with the Great Apes and such. You'd imagine it'd look goofy but it actually sells it really well. It must be one of those things where they completely ignored the English lip sync and just left the Japanese animations.
For those who are curious, I have done custom mode and it’s great! If you want to make your own, what if you can or if you want to put your own spin on a battle in the series, you can do that too it’s great!
The custom battle mode will keep sparking zero going for years. I can see sparking zero going as long as the xenoverse series. Because of the custom battle mode, there is also online, but some might get tired of online.
There’s a big Super Saiyan cinematic in a what-if story branch. Same with a Raditz scene so I’m assuming it’s that way for other big ones. That + the cinematics of the gameplay and super abilities are perfect enough for me
This game is so legendary that we call it by its past name like a Lord Of The Rings character. Seriously knowing a bunch of us reference it as BT4 is so cool.
I'm not gonna lie this is such a perfect next next next generation of BT3! They really brought all the things i love about BT3 to the a modern look and feel its so good and child me is so happy. Thanks matty for all the coverage on your channels!
I don’t have much issue with the power point cutscenes since I’m more interested in the gameplay. I’m an impatient gamer and I’ve already seen the cutscenes from different games a hundred times. So I can get behind their low effort cutscenes
Theres some easter eggs too. I equipped the power pole accessory on Goku (Super) and he gets a special rush attack that uses the pole with a kamehameha.
11:30 Yeah good point, I was watching my friend play and asked him if that was a microtransaction shop because before he said no, we're all rottened by modern gaming having all of that so it's refreshing to get ag ame where you can earn that stuff in game because you already bought the actual game. I lean towards Kakarot more since it's more of an rpg, but I't's great to see DBZ and gamers happy in a weird triple A time right now
Incredible game, My only complaints so far is the Shop and the Wishes. They are kind of pointless. Basically everything you can wish for you can earn or buy. Also a lot of what you can buy you can earn. They should have had exclusive items and things earning, shop and wishes
Throwback to the original Budokai with the alternative timeline decision. This might be the first fighting game I get since... budokai tenkaichi 3 actually.
So far my only true complaint is that for timed alternate scenarios it won't tell me how long that timer is. I've used a stopwatch a couple of times to figure it out but it takes awhile to get back into the fight if you get the wrong clear condition
Yeah that's my issue as well, like sometimes if we don't win on certain time we either get a scripted win or another ending entirely instead of our desired ending. So sometimes I just pay attention to the dialogue presented on screen, to see whether I'll make it or not.
For the actual cutscenes they did have i did like that we could watch it in forst person its really a new way to experience the same stpry weve had been for years lol
Sparking Zero is the GOAT of DBZ arena fighters. I played it for almost 20 hours straight and barely scratched the surface of the games content. Tenkaichi 3 (TeamBT4 version) has been dethroned. All I want now is Bora, Trunks Bojack costume and missing Raging Blast 2 characters such as Pikkon, Hatchiyack and Tarble. Tarble vs Cabba has to happen in Sparking Zero. Hatchiyack vs Broly (Super) too.
Wow, you really nailed my issue with the story mode. It feels kinda cheap the way it's handled IMO, like it's actually breaking my immersion how much of it isn't voiced or animated and I had to put it down earlier and was considering just returning the my playthrough of Kakarot. Speaking of which, I think this game as is is mostly going to serve as a companion piece to Kakarot, where you play Kakarot for the story and Sparking Zero for the more aracde like experience, and the what-if story content. (since kakarot doesn't have 1v1 game mode where you can play as the other characters.). Having both installed at the same time will make for a really great Dragon Ball experience. Also, while I enjoy that they have had some focus on super there's still so much I want from Super too, I hope the third dlc gives us some characters from the ToP.
Honestly, as someone who was a fan of the old games. I wish they would have had much less characters unlocked. I would also like tournament modes to be bigger, instead of 8 being the max amount I would want at least 32 like the old games. I also hope they fix the AI. In some matches they go Ultra instinct and counter and dodge ecerything. I also don't like that the throw button is the same as the dash. In regards to custom battles I wouldn't have minded if that was cut, and instead they would have focused more on the story. In regards to what ifs, I prefer how in Tenkaichi 3 all they would do is make it harder instead of putting you on an invisible timer. For example when you play against Radditz you're supposed to lose to move forward, but by simply winning you automatically get the what if. Sorry for such a long comment but I really was hyped for two years. I'm having tons of fun still but I set my expectations way to high.
Thanks Matty for the review/impressions I been chomping at the bit between this game and metaphor being a dragon ball z junkie can’t wait to pick this also Go Mets 😊

I’ve been playing Kakarot for the first time while waiting for this, and now that I have both of them sort of… alternating, I’m in Dragon Ball heaven. I go to Kakarot for the iconic story and amazing presentation, and I go to Sparking for the fights. It’s perfect as a game combo.
Matty, I’m really going to say it, you’re wrong on the custom battles. Not only does it enhance the package by adding replay value after finishing official content, but it will literally foster so much creativity in the young fans that are using it Honestly, if Ultimate Tenkaichi had similar custom battles, it would’ve been gas
nothing was saving ultimate tenkaichi after they put in that QTE battle system 😭🙏 I agree with the former point though. Custom battles will definitely always draw people back in
I 110% agree with these pov of the game. Trying to enjoy those epic moments outside of the ring in sparking zero just isn’t gonna happen and the what ifs are like worse versions of the raging blast 2 trials n stuff. Something I would like to add to the more negative side of the light is the menu ui. It’s very sturrery for a modern game, especially when it’s like 4 pages u gotta go thru at least to find what ur looking for. I like the old style ofc but I just wish it worked a bit smoother than what it currently is.
I’m more mad about the lack of an in depth story mode, I need it like the old tenkaichi games (BT2 in particular) where every single story is available and you can literally play damn near every battle
I lost my love for gaming during the PS4 era. Everything I played except for a very small few were boring & had me falling asleep. Fighterz was okay but after 30 mins I turned on mortal kombat or a retro 2D fighter. Jumpforce pissed me off with the shared health bar & DBZ Kakarot combat was just so simple uninteresting I preferred to fly around & view the aesthetic of the landscape instead of doing missions. This game though! I love it. Finally a complex combat system that I actually have to learn instead of pushing square over & over. Characters! A shit ton so I can’t get bored and play with the same ones. And lastly long matches. I love a good deep fight that feels like tug of war and I to feel like I barely won. This is what DBZ is about. Pushing a player to their limits. Training & learning new techniques just like the characters. They did such a great job with this game.
I actually like the lip sync for once it actually syncs so its not distracting or goofy, I do think its audio triggered with the voiceover, better than what cyber connect2 does on their own games. I also find it quirky, in the sense that it has flappy mouth movements, like what anime does typically.
One thing I don’t like is that once you finish a match, there’s just a slow motion pause on your character. It would much more immersive if there was a smoother transition into a “cutscene”
I am so glad that this game exists it almost makes every single one of us who play Tenkaichi in the beginning feel like children again Just a little bit you know 😩
If this game had Kakarot quality story mode it truly would have been the Greatest Dragon Ball Game of all time no contest! I’m happy with what I have though.
Im actually fine with the cutscenes (outside of the inconsistent cutscene quality). its dbz the 5% of new people looking for the story we all heard 1000x can get DBZ Kakarot or any other dbz game. this is about the fights and the scale and magnitude and boy does it deliver for me.
@@jaxonjaxon51 yeah good idea, because the thing with arena fighters is that you get to play characters from the anime that you like and stuff, nothing like fighter Z fun.

Also my mains are undecided right now I'm running Vegito base, adult Gohan base, z trunks base, in dp ranked until I unlock Goku black tonight (player level 19 and .999999999, btw he shows up in the shop with merged zamasu when u hit 20) and when I get him I'll change my team up not sure if I'll keep Vegito the cost is high so I'll experiment some more
👏👏👏👏👏 great video brother! I can not wait to play this! Friday gonna be blast to the past!
I wish the story mode was fully connected with different branching paths instead of being split into different character/
Custom battles are amazing for replayability, especially since you can share them online
I can’t stop playing it’s that great !! Ranked multiplayer aside I do hope more is added but defensively there IS more depth but offensively I wish there was more.
the glory days of ps2 dragonballs deep.
Always appreciate your videos sir! Looking forward to picking up my copy on Friday even more after this.
This game is lacking content
@@pedromontes2498It's not
@@pedromontes2498Lmao only arcade mode i guess and og gt movies story mode and that’s it mission mode could be fun i guess not needed tho
@@terrellthaddies7867 no ultimate battle mode
I’m not a huge fighting game fan and typically don’t ever get very good at them because they don’t interest me enough to put the time in to get good. So far I have been OBSESSED with this game! It’s the first fighting game that’s really grabbed me enough to put in the practice time and reps to actually become decent at it. The fights are so cinematic whether it’s offline or online it’s like I’m watching the anime. Even my girlfriend has been hooked and much like myself she never really picks up fighting games (other than smash bros) this will be a game that I put endless hours into. It was definitely well worth the wait in my opinion.
It’s like picking up a old game again. Feels just like the old ones I love it
With apparently missing smaller fights, I hope I can make a big catalog of my own custom battles to fill those in. I’ll just pause and create them as I go maybe, for fun.
WE ARE SO BACK
I've been playing with Japanese audio and the lip syncing is surprisingly perfect. Impressively so, even with the Great Apes and such. You'd imagine it'd look goofy but it actually sells it really well. It must be one of those things where they completely ignored the English lip sync and just left the Japanese animations.
The way the story looks reminds me of Budokai 3. The og, where you pick a Z warrior and follow them across the story, only covering their fights.
This game looks better than the prerendered cutscenes i used to wish were real graphics
The what ifs are insane when you get into them more omg.
Subscribed 🦆 definitely one of my favourite dbz games I've played in a while
I think you are underselling the depth. In a game like this movement is 60% the focus. It’s definitely just a notch behind Tekken in depth.
Custom battles adds so much content to the game
Theres some easter eggs too. I equipped the power pole accessory on Goku (Super) and he gets a special rush attack that uses the pole with a kamehameha.
Great review really one of the most informative
Love your channel and content bro!
11:30 Yeah good point, I was watching my friend play and asked him if that was a microtransaction shop because before he said no, we're all rottened by modern gaming having all of that so it's refreshing to get ag ame where you can earn that stuff in game because you already bought the actual game. I lean towards Kakarot more since it's more of an rpg, but I't's great to see DBZ and gamers happy in a weird triple A time right now
W opinion when i see a new game drops i ask how expensive the micro transactions are
Incredible game, My only complaints so far is the Shop and the Wishes. They are kind of pointless. Basically everything you can wish for you can earn or buy. Also a lot of what you can buy you can earn. They should have had exclusive items and things earning, shop and wishes
SO HYPED TO PLAY THISSS!!!
Less go i was waiting for you
3:50 ight relax bro 😂😂they filled the game with an insane amount of details
I got future one armed Gohan back!!! My life is complete❤
Yeah I wish they AT LEAST got a narrator like if they had that it would have improved it abit. Thankfully the story isn’t the main focus of the game
Might actually have to pick this one up. Thanks for the honest review. Keep up the good work.
I’m loving the game so much I plan to have my own little review of it once I’m finished with it at least for the pc version
I'm having tons of fun still but I set my expectations way to high.
played for 2 hours and I already love it so much.
Thanks Matty for the review/impressions I been chomping at the bit between this game and metaphor being a dragon ball z junkie can’t wait to pick this also Go Mets 😊
Not even touched the stories yet, been having a blast with the Tournaments!
i didn’t but into early access, but i’ll definitely be on when it comes out
my main choices are all over the place, but im definitely feeling trunks, kid goku, or db roshi
I usually don't buy new games until they go on sale but might have to get this ASAP
Not only does it enhance the package by adding replay value after finishing official content, but it will literally foster so much creativity in the young fans that are using it
Honestly, if Ultimate Tenkaichi had similar custom battles, it would’ve been gas
Sorry, that UT glaze came outta nowhere. Move along
nothing was saving ultimate tenkaichi after they put in that QTE battle system 😭🙏 I agree with the former point though.
I don’t mind the slideshow story mode because they animated the sparking episodes aka the what ifs
I think that did it that way also... So it felt like you were reading the Magna. Which keeps DBZ alive and well!
You are flexing with that sealed ps2 copy of BT3
I bought the early access. I haven't played it yet but I'm super excited to play with some of the characters from DB Super.
Vegeta is still my favorite 💯, if this game is like the original 3, I'll play it for sure
Looks cool! Waiting for it to go on sale though!
I am so glad that this game exists it almost makes every single one of us who play Tenkaichi in the beginning feel like children again Just a little bit you know 😩
This game is amazing
Looks like a fun game! A shame it isn't on the Switch, though. Well, hopefully Switch two will get it!
10:11 i disagree thats what separates the skill this fighting game is more a judgement of mechanics than anything else nice vid as always brother
This game is fucking awesome, love it, I haven’t even played online yet and it’s amazing.
If this game had Kakarot quality story mode it truly would have been the Greatest Dragon Ball Game of all time no contest! I’m happy with what I have though.
One of my brothers made a what if goku and vegeta fused and fought Jimenez as gogeta it was sick!
@@Block-v4w7l Cool
Now, i just wish someone would mod in the Kakarot cinematics and it would be the ultimate DBZ game.
I feel it's less a game and a pure cold hard dose of grade A dragon ball just for use to cabbage out watching some the best animations ever seen
I think the player created battles will be fun when the community really starts coming up with cleaver ways to make epic battles
It’s perfect 🥲
My only fear was the dlc content and they didnt disappoint with the amount of stuff you can unlock just with in game currency
Im actually fine with the cutscenes (outside of the inconsistent cutscene quality). its dbz the 5% of new people looking for the story we all heard 1000x can get DBZ Kakarot or any other dbz game. this is about the fights and the scale and magnitude and boy does it deliver for me.
Legacy of goku 2 and buy’s fury still top tier. 💯
as a complete outsider to DB outside of really enjoying FighterZ, is this a worthwhile grab?
Depends,if you like 3d open arena fighters then sure but if not then no
@@strippymcroe6534 never played one! have owned KAKAROT for some time so maybe i’ll play that if i can find the time between all these crazy releases
Don’t think so- this game is hype if you’re a dragon ball fan
@@lulu_TheWitchBoy just started dbz so maybe i’ll get it after im done win that
@@jaxonjaxon51 yeah good idea, because the thing with arena fighters is that you get to play characters from the anime that you like and stuff, nothing like fighter Z fun.
to be honest im just excited for free battle. looking forward to making up my own little stories as i just play matches against the cpu. so when i see people voice their opinions about the story being lacklustre it luckily doesn't bother me personally. i've never played db games for their stories.
I love this game combat is fluid smooth and fast paced graphics are great really good and destructive environments are good to throwing my opponents into buildings in the distance and seeing them go through
