its funny you said that you got over 800 games and it is easy to forget what you own, I got around 600 and almost never forget games I own, and organize them all alphabetically. But, I have been collecting for over 10 years, and playing games since I was 4 or 5. So, I have a lot more memories and moments with my collection over the years, that I have never needed to plug all my games into an app to know if I have it already or want to purchase it while I am out.
I don’t think you mentioned it, but I was watching Spawn Wave and he went to a retro GameStop store and asked for N64 cartridges. They happen to be behind the counter which is interesting, so next time you go make sure you ask!
I noticed that a lot of these retro GameStop stores have a surprisingly large number of Wii U games. Considering that was an unpopular console I wouldn't expect to see so many, I find that very interesting. My best guess is that the Wii U was one of the last consoles where people were actually still actively shopping and trading in games to GameStop, and then pretty soon after was when they stopped selling retro games on the shelves. So these stores have probably just been sitting on all these Wii U games for years
The fact that it was unpopular is exactly why theres so many there. I remember everyone dumping their wii u's when the switch came out because so many of the games were ported or the fact that softmodding it was so easy that the games weren't neccessary.
Same thing happened to me kind of. I was was talking the cashier, cool at first just asking him about some sales on Figpins. They tried to offer her like $200, so I was like I’ll give you double (win-win) she gets more money for rent , I get a PS5 under retail. He immediately kicked me out, threatened to call the cops when I asked if I can still buy the Figpins lol

Always love seeing the gamestop unboxings videos and this one is great too. I have no retro gamestops near me but I'd definitely check them out if I did. I’m glad your experience was better than mine. The store near me didn’t have hardly anything. However, i wouldn’t mind giving it 6-8 months time. The problem is to be competitive, GameStop needs to find a way to not low ball people as much lol
The one I went to had PS2 and 3 games with the PS4 and 5, 360 with the Bone, and Gamecube, Wii and WiiU with the Switch. It didn't have a DS section yet.
If GameStop are going to be charging those premium prices, they had better offer nothing less than premium quality merch such as clean and unbroken cases with all books included and no scratches - along with all originally available dlc included with the purchase. Anything under that bar should be considerably marked down, ESPECIALLY when their selection of worthwhile used stuff has been so so stupid expensive. I could honestly get back into retro gaming, but Im not looking to pay hundreds of dollars for retro systems. If the prices can be more reasonable across the board, I would have no problem going into an actual GameStop and spending some of my hard earned money there. Quality > quantity.
Yeah, some people get the misinterpretation that when GameStop said they would sell retro games, that there would be a separate, new GameStop store dedicated to JUST retro games. Damn, if only that were the case...

I was in my local gamestop which isnt a retro shop and it had this section. They are just classified as a retro location if they have a certain amount in their selection.
Last year for some reason my towns GameStop well before GameStop retro was announced had two PS2 games in the PS3 selection and they were CIB copies of Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 and I got FES for 35 and persona 4 for 12 and as I was checking out the cashier said "I can't believe these are already selling I didn't think anyone would want them because how old they are" I haven't seen a PS2 game at any GameStop since even after GameStop started GameStop retro and added a retro game display to my towns location
You can usually tell just by looking at it GameStop either uses a stock case with the game name and generic GameStop branding or they will have a employee print it out using a printer and you can usually just tell by looking at the cover art if the image is kinda blurry and looks out of place next to a legitimate copy if the case is fake
My local Gamestop was a joke. They only had about a dozen PS3 games and maybe 20 Xbox 360.. nothing older then that. It probably depends on where you are.
Matty first off; thanks for the vid man, question...whats the song playing in the background around the end of the video when you were giving your review on your experience?
Can yall imagine if gamestop actually makes a comeback? I mean theyd have to completely rework their sales tactics and employee training, but hey, this is a step in the right direction for a corporate chain physical games store trying to survive in the new digital age
I gotta say, Super Princess Peach--even if it's just the cartridge--is pretty good at $39.99/$37.99 if you're a pro member, compared to how overpriced it is on the black market now. But yeah, most of the DS/3DS games' prices are ridiculous. All I'm going to say is if you do wish to buy those games, keep the receipt by you just in case.
Homecoming gets too much hate. I don’t remember it being that bad. Is it the best one no but it’s definitely regarded as the least desirable one and deserves better.
DARK ALLIANCE II FOR $30?!?!?!?! That shit is like $300 in the vintage game stores around here. If Gamestop Retro is going to list them at X-Box Live store prices, which should start driving down the absurd second-hand prices, I'm here for it. The price gouging is out of control on these older titles (yes, supply/demand, I get it, it's still bad for consumers).
With GameStop Retro happening and opening stores across the U.S., please GameStop Retro, I really hope you sell a variety of CIB physical copies of old school classic retro video game titles on N64, GameCube, Wii, GB/GBC, GBA, DS, 3DS, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP!! Please, GameStop, make this happen (like what you used to do back then before 2012), that way, it will be a good thing!! I'm definitely planning on going to these stores so I can embrace and relive the nostalgia!! 🎮🕹👾🤘🤟✌😌😊🤗😄😎👍🤙☯✨❤💛💙💯
Even at the state and repution Gamestop has on the US, I would love to have a retail branch like that on my country for me to buy and trade my games, specially for Retro, since Im thinking to start to collect videogames. My only choices are to buy from Amazon/Ebay and import to my country.
I am begging you to try Ronsonal lighter fluid for sticker removal. Let it soak in. The sticker will basically fall off. It completely evaporates while leaving absolutely no residue or smell. I even let it soak into the paper art on ps2/ GameCube games. Used it on so many boxed SNES games that are worth $250-$500... Soaked right into the cardboard and dried completely fine. Won’t ever use anything else.
My local store had the first 3 parts of the dot hack series on ps2 for like 60 bucks in total. All CIB. Apparently it was literally traded in that day though so I'm guessing I just got lucky lol. 90 percent of everything else was a generic gamestop cover in a fake case.
so glad i got my fire emblem 3ds games and kh 358/2 days CIB right before they announced these retro stores, i guarantee i would have had to pay more for those cartridges than even a month ago
I honestly think UA-camrs overinflate how popular retro gaming really is. Its fine for conventions but for a failing publicly traded company, its probably just a waste of time.

Thanks for sharing! How can I tell if the case is legit or not?
You can usually tell just by looking at it GameStop either uses a stock case with the game name and generic GameStop branding or they will have a employee print it out using a printer and you can usually just tell by looking at the cover art if the image is kinda blurry and looks out of place next to a legitimate copy if the case is fake
@@Smarties. Thank you so much! 😊
I have some GameCube games and I checked the trade in value. $30 for Double Dash, $17 for Smash Melee 💀
Silent Hill Homecoming was amazing great story and good gameplay one of my favorites.
The "retro" store near me had f all for retro stuff. A smaller store 30 minutes away had way more than the "retro" one.
At my local GameStop they had Triforce hero’s complete for $25 and cart only for $25… the pricing for loose carts is ridiculous
Think it's marvel vs capcom clock stage
@@Choom89 thanks my fellow choom
This was a pretty good pickup Matty!!!
Yea I will continue to support my local retro store….
Homecoming is pretty amazing one of my favs
Missing the origami in Heavy Rain. I have Heavy Rain for PS3 as well. I really enjoyed it
DARK ALLIANCE II FOR $30?!?!?!?!
For a second i thought pro jared had a brother
Don't be afraid to stop by a "non-gamestop retro" store If it's just a regular GameStop they still have retro games probably not as much as a retro store but they still have PS1 PS2 games depending on the store. I've came up on some gems at GameStop's lately.
Conkers live n reloaded complete, bushido blade ps1 complete, super Mario World 2 snes, Shadow of Rome PS2 complete, silent Hill four the room PS2 with case and disc but missing booklet; took it anyway, Ehrgerz god bless the ring loose, But yeah good stuff.
Not a bad haul at all!
When I needed money I sold my SNES classic to Gamestop who said "it wasn't worth much" 30$. When I went to buy it back they wanted 135.00$ lol.
GTA 4 has the best narrative IMO, all the characters are interesting.
by the way you'll have a way better time with homecoming if you find a way to mod it. the combat can be really weird
These fools are going to give you 3.45 and a stick of bubble gum for your PS2 man…you are better of selling it on Ebay
Or StockX or a pawn shop
just support your local retro game store ya’ll ❤
Gamestop Retro is a cool concept but i would rather support my local game store.
Ah the mvc2 ost good times
WTF price stickers right on the case???
Just found out today my local GameStop is gone...sad?
I’m hoping my locations do better. I’ve already found fake and reproduction games there.
