Fantastic drawing and such a gorgeous little guy. Cheeky, funny, loving, strong willed and just full of energy. You captured him perfectly if these are his traits. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It’s like magic watching you create the skin tones and texture. Just beautiful! Thank you so much for creating this tutorial and sharing your knowledge.
I'm not here to "down" or promote anyone but if you are interested in pastel works, I discovered Dave Porter and have learned more about this medium than any other person. The instruction is valuable and you can learn more than any other tutorial available. I am an oil portrait artist and his instruction in pastels has drawn me to this medium. Great teacher, wonderful videos.
Thank you, Dave for your clear instruction. Your portraits are exceptionally beautiful. I found your shadow colour advice to be exactly what I needed. Thank you for sharing your hard earned skills. 💜
You are very welcome Laura, thank you so much for taking the time to give me such reassuring feedback. So thrilled you found the video helpful. All the very best. 🙏
What a sweet little boy and you do such a beautiful job. It is amazing to watch you in action and I love the way you explain everything so clearly and concisely. Thank you.
I am so glued to your videos, totally amazing work, I've learnt lots from you and look forward to more videos. Stay safe and keep sharing theses amazing videos.
Amazing! Will watch again. I’m learning pastels and your calm, intelligent and inspirational instruction are much appreciated. Thank you - wishing you success!
Thank you so much Christina! Appreciate the kind words... thrilled you enjoyed the video and great to know how you feel about it. You are welcome... Thank you 💕🙏
I really appreciate your comment on opening the heart, etc. That makes all the difference for me. I practice drawing but when I do a painting I let it go and listen to my heart. I haven't heard any other teacher mention this important recommendation. Thank you!
Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback Barbara... I find I can't even draw if I try to think about doing so, art seems to just happen via the opening of the heart. Makes the whole experience magical. 😊🙏
Just joined Pareon and excited to get started with people portrait. (I do animal commission). Was looking for stick pastel portrait tutorials, but I've got so many pastel pencils, I thought 'why not start here's?. Love your work!!!
Just discovered your tutorials - absolutely brilliant! I am about to start on some human portraits (pets and wildlife are my comfort zone) and I'm sure your generous information is going to come in very handy - thank you so much for taking the time to describe your processes
Hi Nicola, thank you so much for the kind words, means a lot to me. Great to know you find the information useful. You are very welcome... love to share. All the very best with you portrait journey 💕🙏
Félicitations pour le magnifique travail que vous faites ! J'apprends énormément en vous suivant. Cela a changé ma façon de dessiner et les résultats sont bien meilleurs. Merci à vous de partager votre technique !
I love how it looks, when you add the colors and tones, it's truly wonderful! At first I didn't understand why you didn't use the Panpastels? but I realize that with the pastel pencils, you have more control, and you add layers after layers to the paper, until you find all the skin tones, I love that! because you can see the contrast and the naturalness of the skin... I think that with that same technique, of using the primary colors, it can also be used with colored pencils, right?
Hi Claritza, thank you for liking my technique... I love to build all the texture as you mentioned. This technique of using primary and secondary colours would work with any medium... I have found it to be universal. 😊🙏
Back in the ‘old days’ mid 1960’s a door to door photography salesman came to the house selling my Mum portraits of her kids. So he pulls out his sample books out to show her some pics and he opens the first album and shows her their first model photo…my Mum looks then shouts, “THATS DAVID…That’s my boy!” Lol…don’t ask me how but his first sample pic was me! (Of course this was an anecdote Mum always told whenever she pulled out that pic.)
Dave your work is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful I’m in a great artist because I greatly love to draw about almost anything, so yes I agree with you that the experience is rewarding and extremely exciting. I deeply want to learn the skills of how to add color to all of my work. But, the question that I need to ask you is how do you keep your colors from fading or running together. Do you spray the surface lightly?
Hi Patricia... thank you... thrilled you like my work. What makes it all possible is to work on a sanded board or paper. I use Paselmat dk grey... it is truly magical. Makes all the difference... less dust has the pigment sticks to it and doesn't move so much. I don't fix my work as this dulls the subtlies down. All the very best to you 🙏🙏
Looks really good, can't wait to watch. About a month or two behind with your tutorials. I'll health - havent done anything since beginning of Dec. Really hoping to join Patreon as soon as well again. Missed following tutorials.
Hi Sharon... sorry to here you have been ill. Hope you find the Strenght to create art again soon. Be great to welcome you into our community on Patreon. Take care 😊🙏
Hi Farzaneh, thank you so much for watching my videos, I'm thrilled you are attracted to my art and are considering joining me on Patreon. I would suggest a sanded surface like pastel mat as this is an important aspect to make my technique happen. I list the most used pencils in the description below this video. All the very best. Dave. 🙏😊
Hi Dave. I’m really enjoying your mini tutorials and will join your Patreon channel today. I’ve ordered some Caran D’Ache pencils but they are on back order so I have to patiently wait. What is the software you have on your laptop with the reference? What size is your pastel mat? Thanks Dave.
Hi Eileen thank you so much... grateful and appreciate the support by joining Patreon. 😊🙏 The software I use if you check the description under this video I mention the graphic software I use and there is a link for Amazon so you can read about it. I use 100cm x 70 cm PastelMat board (Dk Grey) and cut the size I need from it. many thanks 🙏
I am just starting with pastels. You mentioned mixing colors, and I noticed in another video that the artist was using another sheet to blend colors. After doing that, do I just use what I remember using for the color I decided on? I have oil pastels, not pencils. Any comment?
Hi Pat, colour mixing would apply to oil pastels too. Please check out my channel I have loads of videos on how to mix skin tones... here's the link.. ua-cam.com/play/PLTgchDV4hjFTPRZf6Ju1WLpMbsYexUcyx.html take care and all the very best.
