Incredible 😊
I've seen a lot of painting tutorials and this is up there with my favourites!
I can't thank you enough for sharing your thought process in this amazing portrait.
I love the softness. Thank you also for explaining about the hair. And how to capture warm tones.

Thank you so much for your excellent explanation! I love the way you use your fingers to blend. I do use my fingers as well. The softness of the child's face and the sunlight coming from behind are so beautiful. I will continue to see what other videos you have.

Dear Brian, thanks a lot by this video that, at least to me, puts additional informations to the lessons in your Craftsy course "Paint better portraits...". Best regards.
Thank you
Very helpful!TY
Brilliant!
Thank you so much, Suyash!
3:45 to 3:47 -too big of a jump. The mystery stays a mystery. Still this is wonderful to watch. Caliper sighting at 6:27.
Yeah, I suspect this is the atypical art tutorial 'money grab' meaning they show you what they do WITHOUT showing you the critical steps to a perfect likeness. That would make you a threat to their business model. Seriously. The accomplished portrait artist uses proportional dividers, etc., not to mention color matching they don't clearly explain for obvious reasons.
Thanks…very helpful
wow skin colour very nice superb sir
Best artist
Amazing
Thank you so much for the kind comment, Hector! It's greatly appreciated!
Very nice but, what colors have you used, please.
Nice sir
Exquisite
I've never seen anything like this. It's so amazing and realistic! You mentioned John Singer Sargent a few times and watching this I see why I've always been so drawn to his paintings.
Thanks so much for the comment, Beth! It's greatly appreciated! Sargent is one of my favorite painters to study. His portraits are phenomenal and his full control of values, color and brushwork are amazing. Another great painter to study from that era is Anders Zorn. He was a Swedish painter who was a contemporary of Sargent. Many artists consider Zorn a better draftsman than even Sargent. Thanks so much again and have a great day!
Good oil demo...how long it takes to finish?
Thanks so much for the question! This painting took a few days to complete. I hope that this helps. Thanks so much again and have a great day!
Thank you for all the great videos. You have explained temperature and value so succinctly during a previous demo... The thermostat and light dimmer analogies are easy to understand. I just wonder what medium you use, apart from the Liquin (toward the end of painting)... ie. do you ever use Linseed oil or Gamblin's solvent free solvent when mixing oils? LOVE all your portraits!!!
Thanks so much for the question, Belinda! The only medium that I use, besides paint thinner, is Liquin. I primarily use it during the final stages of a painting when I want to introduce a subtle color or value into a specific area. Other than that, I paint with solid paint (paint that hasn't been thinned down with any mediums). This way, I'm able to more easily blend with my fingers, rather than removing paint in the process. I hope this helps. Thanks so much again and have a great day!
Wow
Precioso, pero me gustaría que dieras explicaciones de como hacerlo en ESPAÑOL gracias.
Got it! It is oil paint.
The portrait is perfectly beautiful!
Can I ask what type of painting it’s used on this portrait!
Thank you so much, Tania!
He uses professional Winsor and Newton oils. 😀✌
Does anyone know if Brian still uploads somewhere else? :( it’s been 5 years
Thanks so much for the question! I apologize for not being active lately on UA-cam. If you're interested in seeing more videos, I've been posting on my Instagram account @brian_neher. Thanks so much again and have a great day!
Super
can i see step by step how to use paints and which ones to paint a child light skin pain? . thanks, rachel
Thanks so much for the comment! It's greatly appreciated! If you want to learn more about painting flesh tones, I've produced an online class that is dedicated specifically to this topic. It can be found at www.craftsy.com/class/paint-better-portraits-realistic-skin-tones/. Thanks so much again!
Hello Brian, I'm a little confused here, your approach is correct, but then why does the painting look faded? The light source and shadow is fine, but the colours aren't vibrant. It's a genuine query, nothing else. Maybe I'm trying to correlate with Bouguereau's work.Thank you.
Thanks so much for the comment! When painting outdoor light, especially in a backlit situation like this, the values tend to be keyed much higher (lighter) in the face, giving a more muted and subtle look. Although there were more dark values available to me, I chose to stay within a limited value range in order to give the illusion of outdoor light. When working this way, an emphasis on color temperature changes, rather than value changes, plays an important role in creating volume (three dimensional look). I hope this helps to answer your question. Thanks so much again and have a great day!
you're underrated
This guys better then mark carder.....
No doubt..
The eye on the right is weird
Роскошно❤ Скажите пожалуйста, в процессе рисования вы совсем не пользовались разбавителями? Писали только маслом без жидкостей?
