- More than a week after Hurricane Beryl, city leaders have had it with the days-long power outages. Criticism was aimed at CenterPoint, but most on the city council conceded local government should have been better equipped. Look at the electricity poles all are old tree trunks why they cant be replaced with stronger metalic ones? Look at the traffic lights hanging on the wires and cables like a third world country, why they cant be on strong metal poles like in Miami Florida? Where is our tax and toll money going?

Houston needs to understand they do not have 8 to 10 years before this happens again. It will be next year, the year after that and so on.
It’s not just next year it’s still a chance happening this Year, I live in the coast were it was originally going hit as they kept predicting & I have already took precautions a week before.

Houston you all need a company like COMED down there. We folks here in Chicago, after Monday night's Derecho and EF-0 and EF-1 tornadoes thankfully had power back on, within a couple of hours, if that. Tree debris removal is taking longer, but that is expected given the powerful force of the winds that came through here. There needs to be an independent investigation into Center Point's protocols and procedures when it comes to these significant weather events. I am sure there are some lobbying and kickbacks taking place. Continuing to pray for you all down there.

Home owners should be responsible for pruning the trees around their property to keep the branches from getting into the power lines. The city should be responsible for upkeeping the clearing of vegetation on vacant lots. The finger pointing and political posturing must stop. At the end of the day we are all in this thing together. Get busy with solutions. The next hurricane is gathering speed! Come on people!

Ike was a category 2 and we lost power for 2 wks. So I’m not trying to hear what happened if it was a category ____________? Houston has more people and any piece of empty land they are building apt complex, shopping strips, new homes etc
