The Vikings capture King Edmund, and tie him to a tree. What will they do with him? A story of sadistic torture, and talkative miracles. Not for the faint-hearted.
Believe everything you see or hear?? There is NO way ANYBODY could EVER PROVE that it was never used or had never happened, COMMON SENSE tells you it is VERY possible to do Whether or not the victim stays conscious or alive through the ordeal is another story. And the "exact way" is also impossible to state as I am sure there were most likely different variations of the torture as people did it to the degree of hate or revenge they felt or to the degree of pain/consciousness the victim.
@princessbabyfirefly The blood eagle was real but not like the say, not all that exaggerated thing of exposing lungs and ribs. The exact way of making a blood eagle is to take a sharp objet and cut muscle just in the line of the spine and still cutting in line of the scapula, then when you have all the muscle and the person still alive and you haven't touched any organ pull out the scapula in the way that has to look like a wing....if you do that then you have the real blood eagle.
The blood eagle knowledge is derived from skaldic poetry so through translation and time it may not be what is believed. That said cutting ribs from the back and pulling them open=possible pulling lungs out= possible. Maintaining conciousness through it= pretty much impossible even with massive amounts of drugs in you the brain would shut down.
it was probably used just not in that way because the lungs would be punctured by the rubs the real way to do it was pulling the scapula out to make wings
