Sean I just find your content invaluable. I’m a photographer and a now very amateur videographer. For some reason I thought being a photographer would give me a bit of a running start, but videography is a whole different board game. I have looked for this answer anywhere and everywhere. and I don’t seem to find a conclusive answer so I’m putting this question out there with Hope that somebody could point me in the right direction. Should I be shooting my videos in 4K?? The only thing I do with my videos is upload them to my UA-cam channel. I use two cameras - my Sony A74 and a little point and shoot a Sony v1007.
The reason why I’m reluctant to shoot in 4K is because the file sizes. And my camera crops in (not that it’s a massive issue). But also because I just did a project where one camera was set 4K and my B camera was set to high definition - so for my project, I decided to downscale my 4K videos to meet my high definition videos . I really hope somebody out there can point me in the right direction. Thank you so much for your time. ❤

My Sony zv-1 (original 2020 version) states on intelligent auto, unless I need to adjust for sunrise/set. It does an awesome job of detecting and switching between portrait, landscape, back lit, macro, etc. leaves me more time to just capture the content and very little grading is required. Usually just adjusting the gamma.

I think all modern cameras including high end smart phones do a fantastic job on auto and probably a better job than the user in most instances

I totally agree with you. I vlog with a Sony A 7IV and for the most part I keep it on auto unless I’m in my little studio then I’ll do manual. Great video! 👍🏼

All this depends on what type of content you're creating and what look you are going for, or LUT
Most look the same dare to be different and experiment until you've got it
Thanks for the sound advice too 😊❤

Gear does matter but having the gear doesn`t mean you are going to make better content. Creativity and storytelling will.

Storytelling above all else. Because if you have the fundamentals of filming down then you know how to break the rules with creativity but that does nothing if you can’t tell a good story.
Best example is “High Flying Bird” on Netflix. Shot entirely on an iPhone 8 but by an academy award winning director and if you watch the movie without knowing anything else, you get drawn in very quickly by the script.
