The Warsaw Uprising commenced on August 1, 1944, and concluded on October 2 that same year. This was a major insurrection by the Polish Resistance against Nazi Germany to liberate Warsaw. It is estimated that about 16,000 members of the Polish Resistance were killed, while 150,000-200,000 civilians perished, mostly through mass executions. There were about 8,000 German casualties. It feels as if they’re forming a second polish resistance and addressing the nazis and switching “they” for “you” to strengthen this feeling.
This song is about the patriotism of those who joined the resistance so the words and crowds and switching “they” with “you” really strengthens this message.
