Hey guys! Just wanted to let you know that my new book, Things That Matter, is finally here. I put my heart into it, and I can’t wait to share it with you. You can pick up a copy at www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/676394/things-that-matter-by-joshua-becker/
I found time! I made time! I was suffering from severe anxiety and depression...I'd shop for things I didnt need..then felt guilty as I could not return them because I already lost or threw out the reciept...but one day...It clicked! I started decluttering to the max...a year later and im almost to my point of feeling complete. Depression...GONE! Anxiety...BETTER! My minimizing journey and you along with others have saved my life! My sanity!
It’s crazy how that actually works! To clear things out. I remember with my first baby I was living with my mom and the baby came early, so I had him sleep in a bassinet stroller in my room. And I was getting so overwhelmed in keeping everything decent looking in that tiny room. I took the stroller out and all of a sudden is like I could BREATHE. It was giving me anxiety to have it crowded in there, without even realizing it
Hi! Would you come to Buenos Aires to help me? Haha. Congratulations for helping your friends with decluttering! I wish I had someone Who would give me a hand with this! Blessings!
@ michelle h. i do the same thing to my friends and neighbors.i encourage them to let go of things they dont really need and donate to somebody who does. i feel happy if i do these things
Minimalism journey for over a year now, definitely a game changer. It is totally worth it and I have had a ton more time that has suddenly been available since I have not only changed my environment but lifestyle as well. It's great to be "unbusy" :) thank you so much!
Good ideas! I pull out a drawer and declutter it while watching TV. When I can't decide to keep or ditch an item -- I look at it and say, "If I was moving would I take this?" Also, always ask yourself: do I need this or just want it?
I was focusing on removing things like Marie Condo and realized that I was adding to the landfill as many many items didn’t spark joy. Guess what, all possessions don’t. I have space so I keep necessary items and use it. I wear all my clothes that I keep, use all pot and pans even if they don’t spark joy instead of buying items that do. I stopped buying, repurposed things, reused what I could as many times as I could and use all ingredients I buy, or freeze those I cannot use immediately till I can.
I was just sitting here trying to figure out where I could find blocks of time to finish decluttering when I got this message. Not watching TV at night will most likely work for me. Why didn't I think of that. There's nothing that great to watch anyway. Lol
I always have decluttering on the back of my mind. So every time I'm sitting in a room I look around and think about the stuff. I may not pick anything up, but I make up my mind by the next time I sit by that area. Then I move the objects. I've been on the journey since March and we have cleared sooo much stuff. Not yet complete but definitely have made a noticeable change. We are loving it! I utilise a childcare day so I can do it. I remind myself that in the future I will have more spare time as less to maintain so it's worth it. Delegating is key. ❣
I'm currently in the process of decluttering my possessions and I watch your videos for motivation! 😃 My advice is to do small chunks at a time. Do a manageable amount every day. It's working for me so far! I usually go through one pile of 'stuff' per day!
My life have changed a lot since watching your video. I can now have a minimalist home without being doubt. I feel all my thoughts about minimalism actually have been exposed by you clearly and I agree so much with all of the guidance. You have confirmed what is in my idea and mindset and also add many tips a lot. But sometimes I just doubt myself. So I thank you so much dearly to help me get out of my doubt so far.
Omg. I have done so much today. Took all your awesome tips. You are my hero. I love love living like this. I feel so light. Yes exhausted but worth it! Thank you!
I like to cultivate entertainment sources (podcasts, youtube vids, etc.) that I can listen to rather than watch. So a good chunk of my "watch time" is actually providing background entertainment while my hands and eyes are busy elsewhere, cleaning, decluttering, etc. HIstory documentaries are great for this, as the visuals are often extraneous to the core content. Bonus, doing the dishes and sorting through old clothes comes with some passively acquired education. And I don't even need to set a timer for piecemeal projects, since the video length provides one.

A few days ago my 2 little grandkids, aged 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 helped me cull their special bookshelf in my home. Gotta be done: we're moving house. I was so surprised which books they chose to keep and which to let go! They were a great help!
Yes, I was overwhelm with clutter & didn't know where to start😫. So what I decided to do is throw out one item each day for a whole year, like that chair I never use or that broken lamb tuck in the closet or that old cookbook. That's 365 items gone without stressing myself over all that useless clutter.😀👌
My husband gets up at 3:30 am and me 9:00am. We have had this schedule for years because of work and kids. Hey, we end up having our own personal time and time with kids. God bless.
We dont have în România. People here are too "proud" to accept anything but NEW clothes... They usually want MONEY as charity. Poor people, poor education, very poor recycling. Our rivers are FULL of plastic bottles...
We have a wonderful shop in our town that is run by the local Down’s syndrome group. The older kids get to work in the shop hanging clothes and stocking the store. All profits go to their charity which also runs group homes, a plant nursery, and other employment opportunities for their clients. Nothing makes me happier than seeing their faces when you bring in new items for the store. We recently sold our second home and I brought everything to the shop.

We are just beginning our journey to minimalism. Have been considering it for years but with the recent passing of my Papa it's just made it all more clear just how short, and meaningful Life really is. We did our first drop off to second hand store this past weekend. We have started turning the TV off after dinner and picking a room of the house to tackle as a family, this has meant I usually go thru things while husband plays guitar and entertains our child and says yay or nah to items as I come across them but so far it has worked for us hah I love making it a family thing and it truly is time better spent rather than sitting mindlessly infront of the TV thinking about alllll the things we have to do. Thank you for your videos. You are a huge inspiration
Good ideas. Time is not my issue I make time for what I enjoy or would like. I've decluttered & organized most things. There are still things I still need to downsize! I'm approaching it as if I'm keeping things I like most need to have more than joy value but be useful. Some things are not & it's just hard to let go.
I have been tackling my minimalism just a little bit at a time. Every weekend I pick a room or cabinet and do a purge. I am almost done with my whole house purge and I have done it a little at a time over the last few months.
I've started doing number 2 of the 8 ideas. I also do number one two days a week. I was off work for five weeks after major surgery, and I managed to get a little bit done then, but not as much as I had hoped. I am slowly making progress.
Good and inspiring..i m a minimalist basically even before i got introduced to this word or idea..i m not a impulsive buyer ..always plan before buying..and if i like something very much in market atleast wait for some minutes and think do i really need or like it..will it serve some purpose for long time in my house or just make me busy in its maintenance..luv to spend quality time with family and likes to go to new places for vacation with family.. Whenever i get some spare time i utlilise that time in decluttering and donate things ..but still i feel and believe in a proverb from my area .extreme of anything is bad.. Some things hav emotional value..and that value can be different for different persons in family..so in absence of other family members i never decide abt their stuff or common stuff to donate..always first ask them if they are comfortable if i can donate those things..if they say no i just tell them to keep those stuff properly by themselves nd they can donate if they want later or keep those things with themselves.. And i m so thankful that no one in my family do this minimizing thing in my absence..🤔😅 When i was a child my mother donated my toys and collection of storybooks without even asking from me once i was in school that time..i still remember how bad i and my brother felt for days and months..1 or 2 books were left by mistake nd i still possess those books and shown those books to my kids also they were also happy to read books their mother used to read in her childhood
You nailed it at the end of your video. What is your priority? If it is, you will find time for it. We all have 24 hours a day, and there’s only so much we can do, so declutter or not, is a priority.
I keep a box next to my closet and whenever . I find things I know longer want or need it put it in the box and put it in my trunk right away to be donated
All great valid points, since i decluttered and started a basic every day cleaning routing usually 10 mins or less takes (depending on the tasks needing done) less stuff = less time to clean and less stress looking at the mess you keep putting off cleaning decluttered with more time to do other stuff
I highly recommend the staycation! I did this just recently and it was great. I would also recommend making a definite plan prior to the staycation. Otherwise it's very easy to do more goofing off than you should, and before you know it , your time is gone. It was a very good feeling to go back to work after the staycation, knowing that I had gotten a lot accomplished and also had time for some relaxing time that I planned ahead for. Still not completely minimized though, so now I need to carve out time at least 2-3 times per week and tackle some more stuff!
before I decluttered I rearranged the furniture that I felt is most comfortable and wasn't embarrassed if somebody popped in--I needed to get organized first--it was so much easier to eliminate things and know what I had to start with and put a hold on shopping of course!
*I LOVE the FAMILY TIME tip* but I understand how it might not seem realistic for many families, especially those with preteens and teens. *BUT HERE’S THE RUB:* When our kids spend the first 12+ years of their lives hearing us grumble about the mess and the clutter, and they see us always being stressed about chores, they pick up on that negativity and internalize it. So it’s no wonder they don’t see cleanup time as fun or easy or positive. I wish I had realized this earlier in my parenting journey so that I could have modeled more positive habits for my kids. But I was immature and negative myself😕 Meh🤦♂️
Underrated comment! Right there on the same boat! Parenting done right, definitely not for the faint of heart. May God help us for however long we have left with them 🙏🏼
As somebody said, you will always find time for something you like. If people are motivated to do minimalism, they will certainly find time. Of course, what you suggested is awesome.
Today, went through all of the Xbox 360 games and console and controllers and all other things with it and posted it on Facebook to sell. Hopefully there will be a buyer and I’ll be very happy.
A. Time invested comes back plus more. B. You could spend 5-10 minutes a day on it, but do you really want to drag the project out forever? Better to set a block of time and do a room or three. Ideas: 1. You could : wake up early or stay late. 2. Cancel a one-time or a recurring appointment. 3. Postpone a hobby for a while 4. Take some hours of vacation time off work 5. Cut out a chunk of screen time 6. Get a trusted person to take your kids somewhere, one-time or trade 7. Delegate a chore or task, to spouse or child, or hire it done 8. Make it a family event to do together. You are in the driver's seat of your life. You get to choose what fits.
Katy_Living_Simply true for many people. But I think the reason he made this video is because the “just get it done” approach doesn’t work for everyone.
You clearly don't have a full schedule or 4 children less than 4.5 years apart or both. You definitely have to make the time to get it done! Not everyone has a 9-5 schedule or the "free time" to be able to just do whatever whenever. Not everyone does the same things. My children are homeschooled so they're not gone from the house EVER unless they go WITH me. They're with me 24/7/365, so, yes, some people need to set aside time to make it happen.
@@katburns5773 We come from a family of 8. 6 children total. We are a minimalist family. For the past 30 years. It can be done. And in that time all seasons of working full time for years and part time. People just like to make excuses.
You don't have to do it all a once. Pick an area when you feel energetic, it's amazing how you feel when you have dropped stuff off to the hospice or sold stuff. I sold $900 of old clothes last month, $50/$60 at a time
I understand what Katy means. I have three young children and they also don’t leave the house without me much unless they are at school when I am working. For me, the time that I have to make it a priority is bedtime. My kids normally go to bed around 7:30, so I have a good two hours if I wish to use it efficiently, to get something done :)
Thanks for uploading!! I have been off social media for years.(only on youtube) I feel like I've been decluttering for yrs!! I'm almost to the end of the road! Working around kids is very hard. I do feel like for peace of mind..I have to get rid of all this stuff asap!!
Really great advice. I’ve done several of those but I love learning new ideas to try. I live in a 408 sq ft house but it still gets cluttered at times.
Thankyou for your videos they are very clear and coherent, i wished i had seen them many years ago, and i probably would have been even better at minimilism and culd have saved even better!! Now i'm fine and still have to be vigligant , but am unlikely to ever accumilate again as its nearly two years since purchasing anything ,and i'm happy,i love seeing your videos, there's always room to improve and have fresh ideas!
I started washing windows and window sills as I listened. There is always a way to do a little while you enjoy an inspiring talk. Not decluttering, but it needed to be done. Yay me!
I made it a rule for myself that most of the time when I am watching UA-cam videos, I have to also put away/clean my dishes or make dinner. It’s worked out pretty well for me.
In my family when we did this it was a family affair as well. Sometimes we all went through stuff together and sometimes mom and dad went through the stuff, while my sister and I arranged them nicely, photographed them and posted sale ads for them. My sister and I also made for sale and donation piles, and responded to interested customers by email. Within....maybe 3 separate stretches of 3 month periods, we got rid of everything we had but memorabilia. But still these days, we make time to get rid of even more clutter. :)
I'm not into tv but i do use UA-cam to distract myself so what i did was that i was only allowed to put on videos that would inspire me (like these) or old novellas i have seen a million times. I also had my friends take my dog on play dates with them, their pups or their kids. Depending who it was. My housemate was temporarily responsible for cooking and that part was short lived.
Thank you so so much for this video/lesson. I loved the fact that your tips were straight to the point and also in an assertive manner (just the way that I needed them). Great Job!
"Do you really want to spend the rest of your life decluttering? It's way better to find some intentional time to get through as much as you can, to begin enjoying the benefits of owning less as quickly as possible." This!
One thing I found helpful was to make a list of tasks that need to be done. Maybe it’s clear dining room table of papers, file papers, put decorations away, sort items and put unwanted items in quarantine box, etc. Set a timer for 15 minutes and see how much you get done!
I am so glad you started making UA-cam videos. I used to read your blog all the time keep up the good work. I am guessing you will work with break the twitch and I can’t wait to see that.
I make a 4 bag pile! Do I want this? Do I need this? Do I donate this? The last bag is for the trash! It will keep you organized and clutter free! It takes getting use to; but it can be done! You do give excellent advice; as well! 👍
For me, if I wake up at 7am, I already woke up late. I'm beggining to think that waking up at 3 or 4 am almost every day, work day or not, it's an issue. Never feel rested, but still my eyes open at that time. 😟
I just had a thought Joshua, I like to really decorate for Christmas. I have 14 bins of Christmas decorations. Is that’s nuts? I really need to declutter those decorations. Can you help?
I used to wake up at 5.45 am mon to fri...so I could take my small dog for a 5km walk...before I went to work. Did this for 35 years. Became such a habit...still wake at thay time...but now retired...so walk later...lol Its all about setting Goals...make it a habit...quit or restrict timewasting habits activities. Hardest part is actually starting!!!!
'Need to 'Find more time'? LIMIT the kids' extra curricular activities! They don't NEED 3 or 4 extra-curricular activities! They're EXHAUSTED from a 2 hour workout BEFORE school & another 2 AFTER school(might include study table) + music! They're not getting home until 8pm or later, then dinner,(or fast food snack) homework before bed at 1am later!
Get the kids involved! You might be surprised how quick they will want to join you. Besides, out of 10 there is likely at least 1 or 2 that are naturally minimalists. View them as an asset.

I have a great resale store in my town . They are happy to get my “ stuff “ and I get money!
*BUT HERE’S THE RUB:*
When our kids spend the first 12+ years of their lives hearing us grumble about the mess and the clutter, and they see us always being stressed about chores, they pick up on that negativity and internalize it.
So it’s no wonder they don’t see cleanup time as fun or easy or positive.
I wish I had realized this earlier in my parenting journey so that I could have modeled more positive habits for my kids. But I was immature and negative myself😕
Meh🤦♂️
Chris Desatoff Realizing that now and being able to now model and pass that on is a blessing! Atleast you Noticed!
Terra Chaney better late than never, right?😂🤷♂️
How true ! At least, finally you understood. How good.
So true!! I'm trying to change as a parent.
Underrated comment! Right there on the same boat! Parenting done right, definitely not for the faint of heart. May God help us for however long we have left with them 🙏🏼
Thank you for the suggestions. I like the staycation and TV watching time. Great reminders on how to use our time wisely.
As somebody said, you will always find time for something you like. If people are motivated to do minimalism, they will certainly find time. Of course, what you suggested is awesome.
Thank You...I will start with going through Holidays items...Today, 4th of July box of things I didn’t even put out 😕
I was just looking around my house thinking I don’t have the time. Thanks for the inspiration.
This is the BEST ADVICE!!! THANKS SO MUCH!♥️♥️♥️♥️
Today, went through all of the Xbox 360 games and console and controllers and all other things with it and posted it on Facebook to sell. Hopefully there will be a buyer and I’ll be very happy.
A. Time invested comes back plus more.
B. You could spend 5-10 minutes a day on it, but do you really want to drag the project out forever? Better to set a block of time and do a room or three. Ideas:
1. You could : wake up early or stay late.
2. Cancel a one-time or a recurring appointment.
3. Postpone a hobby for a while
4. Take some hours of vacation time off work
5. Cut out a chunk of screen time
6. Get a trusted person to take your kids somewhere, one-time or trade
7. Delegate a chore or task, to spouse or child, or hire it done
8. Make it a family event to do together.
You are in the driver's seat of your life. You get to choose what fits.
A voice of reason. So simple guys
OR... you can just get up and get it done. 👍 There's no magic recipe. If it's important, you make it a priority.
Great video! A place for everything and everything in its place! Words to live by.
'Early morning contains essence of whole day' Chinese saying . . .
Great tips! I'm buying your books on Amazon, can't wait to read them! Love the idea of minimalism!
That's great! You'll enjoy the books and find them very helpful.
I should have been cleaning my basement but instead I’m watching you🤭
I started washing windows and window sills as I listened.
@@owl1184 I do the same!:)
Yes..i get inspired by watching u tube but it also consuming my time..when i already have time i forgot what i've been inspired of🙄
Pure Gold ! Thank you, Joshua !!
Yes👍I will find some time to declutter again/more😃Thank you for these tips!!👍
I'm going to try this when my kids go back to school!
One thing I found helpful was to make a list of tasks that need to be done. Maybe it’s clear dining room table of papers, file papers, put decorations away, sort items and put unwanted items in quarantine box, etc. Set a timer for 15 minutes and see how much you get done!
Staycation: 1/2 day minimize or clean. Then do a fun activity. NO shopping.
Thank you so much for all the advices!😉
I am so glad you started making UA-cam videos. I used to read your blog all the time keep up the good work. I am guessing you will work with break the twitch and I can’t wait to see that.
I make a 4 bag pile! Do I want this? Do I need this? Do I donate this? The last bag is for the trash! It will keep you organized and clutter free! It takes getting use to; but it can be done! You do give excellent advice; as well! 👍
Declutter 1 room @ a time so it doesn't seem overwhelming👌🏼 #lesscleaning #moremetime🌺 #lessismore #thankyou🦋
So great 😀 these video that start without ads first 👍 👍 👍 actually there are no ads 😃 very nice
Yup, thanks for noticing.
Such practical tips. Loved this. 💜
Thank you for these suggestions!
Ohhh, i've Not started decluttering yet... But watching your videos dayly, there's no way NOT to do it... The sooner the better, i know. Let me begin!
one small step is what you need dear..take your time! happy decluttering!
@@shademarquez4555, one kick, yes!
You'll be so happy when life is easier with less
Listened at 1,5 speed.
Great tips! 👍
Great tips! Thanks! I can't stop watching at your clock! lol
For me, if I wake up at 7am, I already woke up late. I'm beggining to think that waking up at 3 or 4 am almost every day, work day or not, it's an issue. Never feel rested, but still my eyes open at that time. 😟
Great ideas 👍🏽
I just had a thought Joshua, I like to really decorate for Christmas. I have 14 bins of Christmas decorations. Is that’s nuts? I really need to declutter those decorations. Can you help?
Good ideas and inspiring!
Thank you!
Hi like the way you make it easy to do. Thanks good wisdom.
Maximized my time by watching this on 1.25 speed which makes it a normal talking pace (and it's not even my native language).
Tanja Hermann lol it watched it in 1.75 😂
I saved a lot more time watching it at 2x speed. lol
plz respect this man because he talks slowly english learners find it hard to understand so appreciate it
I used to wake up at 5.45 am mon to fri...so I could take my small dog for a 5km walk...before I went to work. Did this for 35 years. Became such a habit...still wake at thay time...but now retired...so walk later...lol
Its all about setting Goals...make it a habit...quit or restrict timewasting habits activities. Hardest part is actually starting!!!!
Thank you
So True...
Isn't it hilarious that Ikea ads come on? They are the Kings of selling stuff to organize the clutter. 😁😂😂
I'm currently struggling with this. I have 10 kids and really wish I had started on this journey before there were so many of them.
Get the kids involved! You might be surprised how quick they will want to join you. Besides, out of 10 there is likely at least 1 or 2 that are naturally minimalists. View them as an asset.
If only you could figure out what's causing all those kids 😏
I love your videos. You inspired me to create content on minimalism on my channel :)
Such a great video ..really really really.🙏
Great ideas!
Do not change your way to talk, it is gorgeous
Good ideas!
