📰🗞As a middle school art teacher 👩🏻🎨 I urge people who read magazines and/or newspapers to PLEASE drop them off at your nearest school for art projects. These wonderful supplies are becoming scarce since so many people don’t buy them any more. Thanks 😊🎨
Gosh..yes, hadn't thought of this! 😮 As a (now retired) HS art teacher..(43 years)., I always had boxes of newspapers and magazines in my classrooms. And, also sad, was the way the school library started getting rid of a lot of books...I "rescued" the art/design books and put them in the art room. Now, I am decluttering as the following generations don't want the boxes of "things" left by the previous 3 to 5 generations. And, it is so difficult to do. But, it really does feel so much "better/lighter". Keep a few truly meaningful "treasures", but noone needs a house full of "stuff" that only creates "work". 🎨🖼👍🏻🇦🇺
As a arty person saving magazines ect is one of the reasons I would never be a good full minimalist. I try and have it that the material can only fill one bag but there is alway more materials.
In London, we have many free newspapers. Here libraries sell old books and magazines for as little as 50 pence. Have you asked your local library? Best wishes.
Happy Happy 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Got my hubby on board. I went down hill since my son had passed in 2017 I just couldn’t do anything. 2022 I wanted the house I loved back but just couldn’t do it. Little by little when I felt I could do something I would turn on your Channel and others after 3 mo my home is almost back there. Since I found a man that’s doing this my husband listen and now he’s on board thank you so much for being out there and sharing. 🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️
I'm far from being a minimalist and don't have any desire to be one. Nevertheless, I'm practicing almost all of these routines daily. These are good suggestions for anyone wanting to live in a stress free home.
My stepson’s bedroom is a disaster. He’s 20, and gets overwhelmed by all the clutter. I offered to help him, using your “remove what you want; get rid of what’s left” method of decluttering. Our basement was a giant “junk drawer”. A week before our junk removal people were scheduled, I used your method to pull what I wanted, and advised the other two “contributors” to do likewise. Easiest decluttering method I’ve ever tried. So, after clearing off stepson’s bed, he’s going to point to what he wants (on the bed it goes), everything else is either going to be donated, or tossed. The next step is staying on top of the incoming detritus.
Great video! I have embraced minimalistic living to a degree but my husband was very reluctant. I have quietly persisted in small ways and he has slowly embraced 'some' ideas. It was so gratifying to hear that most of these fifteen routines are exactly those that I thought were achievable and we've had success with. There's nothing like a little positive reinforcement to bring a glow to your day. Thank you.
Same here! To my surprise just recently he’s been tossing things away without a second thought or regret which is totally unlike him. I mean, I have PTSD from throwing away dollar store ice pop molds a decade ago because he wants to keep everything!
Thanks for helping me with knowing how to get started with your lists. It is something I don ' Often enough. Start somewhere and get it done. I have ADHD and Fnd it very difficult to get started. But getting srmarted Getting with anything started is quite helpful. It makes life filled .
Great tips! You almost lost me on #9, but then redeemed yourself with loading dishes into the dishwasher right away, which has been my ritual for years. My day starts with an empty dishwasher so that dishes throughout the day can effortlessly disappear into that magical appliance. After all, if you put dirty dishes in the sink, then into the dishwasher later that day, you’re having to give them your attention twice. Why would I want to do that?
We put dirty (dry) clothes directly into the washing machine. Wet dirty towels etc go into basket (only one we have), nxt to the machine. I don't sort colors (or buy white). When machine is fullish, add the wet things in basket, add detergent & run it. Same with dishes. Dirty go directly into dishwasher. When full (or every evening), add soap & run it. It's emptied every night (or morning) so it's available to load dirty dishes again. A kitchen habit that makes me happy: I put clean dishcloth out every day for sink. The yellow microcloth pack from costco are only 50 cents per cloth. When they get ratty, they're cycled to the workroom or garage.
Just found your channel and I love the way you spread the message. I recently moved into my lovely tiny home. 144 SQ ft. Not only am I completely comfortable, I have plenty of room. I just started really living minimalist and I'm loving the freedom.
I live in Canada and in my community we are able to request to not receive junk mail. The post office puts a small label in our box so that the carrier is always reminded. It really helps with the incoming paper that just goes automatically into recycle.
I would like to add that when you become a senior, and depending on mobility issues; it's best to leave appiliances that you use daily on the counter. It's just to risky moving heavy awkward appliances. You'll understand when you get there...thank you great ideas !
Keep sink clear of junk. Fill a dishpan with hot water before you start cooking. As you finish with an item, put it in the water. It's clean almost instantly. Just a few dirty dishes to rinse and wash after dinner. Also, food is usually too hot to eat straight out of the oven. Use those 5 to 10 minutes to clean some dishes.
Thank you Joshua. You videos are so good and minimal too. Straight to the point with no waffle. I am still going down the minimalist route. Still trying to get the rest of the family on board but getting there. Just love my clear counters. Junk mail comes in the front door and out to recycling through the back door immediately. Life is getting easier, less clutter, easier to tidy. Keep up the good work.
I just discarded items from my closet that I have not been wearing for one year, such as old undies, old pants, old shorts, socks with missing pair, old garden gloves. Thank you joshua for always inspiring us and motivating us to be more intentional with our life.
Great video. I have read Joshua’s blog for years and incorporated many of his tips into my daily life. I now have only the clothes I need. I recycle the junk mail before I bring it home. I get most of my bills via email. Most of my mail is now junk mail. After a shower, I wiped down the shower tiles. It prevents grout and keeps the bathtub cleaner for a longer time. To clean the shower, I use Dawn and I let my bathmat soak in Dawn overnight. Next morning the bathmat is clean, no need to scrub it.
🌷🤩 this was great, thank you so much! I think the misconception of minimalism is that it is a one time deal and you are done. As humans we are constantly bringing things in an out of our home and regular minimal maintenance is always required and this was a great encouragement on just that! Blessings to you and your family and thank you for this content.
A thought about 7. Fill your containers for garbage day: I have developed the mindset that I have paid municipal taxes to be able to put two full black trash bags on the corner every week. So why wouldn't I avail myself of that opportunity and fill them up every week? I will get more out of using this service that I'm already paying for by decluttering than I would every get trying to sell the stuff for a few bucks online (plus my time and the hassle of doing it). Love your videos Joshua!
Very helpful, thank you. May I add that I purchase inexpensive hangers, or re-use dry cleaner hangers, to hang every clothing item that I take to the thrift store. My donated items can then immediately be hung on the store racks and not pile up in a back room.
I have to say I cracked up while listening to this! I was washing the dishes with one earbud in when my daughter walked in, I tuned Joshua out for a second to talk to her only to tune back in to him asking "Are you listening mom?" I cracked up and said "No, no I'm not" my daughter looked at me like I had lost my mind!! I backed up the video to let her watch why I just blurted out "No I'm not" for no apparent reason!!
Seriously love your channel. I subscribed within the first minute. Super easy to watch and to implement the ideas and tips that you offer. My husband and I traveled for three years with just the essentials and everything else was in storage. It’s amazing how little you actually need. Now that we have a home we are finding your videos very encouraging. And have started to minimalize what we have. I have to say it has brought me closer to God and helped me focus on what’s important. Thanks for the great Content!
I am glad to know that we already practice 12 out of 15. Documents/ Filing/ craft material is my struggle but I am motivated to get rid of this soon. :)
Joshua, I've been a subscriber of your channel going on 3 years now. Great list. Thank you for inspiring me on my decluttering journey that many years ago.
Really fantastic habits and suggestions!! I especially love the one about getting kids to clean up every night. I have four and we have greatly reduced their belongings but things still tend to get a little crazy. Starting this today!
Beautiful and unusual landscape at the end of your video. Where is that? PS. Good list & suggestions. For me, newspapers and magazines are a major weakness. I love the visual flow and the tactile experience. My father is the same.
Newspaper is fabulous for cleaning glass! Heard a tip about coupons from Christine at Fit Frugal Mom, pop them into a ziplock bag and keep them in the car door for actual use 👏
Any suggestions for those with small kitchens for appliances? We have a tiny tiny kitchen with enough closed storage for food, pans and cups. I've purged so that we have the bare minimum but there is still no room for KitchenAid mixer and coffee pot. 😊
Joshua i remeber every day while cleaning utencil u taught me how to keep tidy home Ples introduce my vlog really u r really wonderful person by giving ideas to make our life simple and peace
As a child of the 1950’s I always had to put my toys away every night; it was the norm then in every home. When did parents become so lax that they no longer train their children to do this? Well said Joshua, for trying to bring back this habit and discipline.
Thank you! We don't have a coat closet. Have you seen some of the flats in London? Small. Can you do a video on small spaces? Thanks so much for the inspiring video.
I empty & stack the dishwasher while I’m cooking our evening meal. I hate to eat in a messy kitchen. Plus the dishwasher is ready to load the cooking pots/plates etc. and the kitchen is clear. Shoes go straight into boxes in a unity when we get in and cots straight on a coat hook on the back of a door.
Oops. Wanted to add to my previous post that after cleaning my closet I sat down and watched this video. Now I realize that there are four raincoats in my closet that I need to take to Goodwill. I wasn’t going to get ride of them because they are all great coats but really, how many do I need? Thanks for the video.
As much as I unsubscribe from email, new ones I never signed up for start appearing. I feel like it’s never ending. Finally getting to the end of the physical things and tackling my paper clutter.
7:25 "Stacks of magazines & papers serve no purpose at all in life but to clutter a room once they've been read [and you'll never read them even if you've not read them yet!]"
2:00 Please don't dump your things off to 'Goodwill Industries' please please take them to a local thrift shop that actually helps in your local community. If by some sad chance that's not a viable option, then you can always check in with your local women's & children or even the family shelters! ❤ Goodwill doesn't do much if anything for your community, on top of that THEY ARE ONE OF THE BIGGEST LANDFILL FILLERS! Look at how big their garbage bins are! I mean people do donate garbage and crap but you still wouldn't belive some of the things Goodwill tosses.
I like to put things away in cabinets. I get overwhelmed by stuff laying everywhere. My husband is a visual person. He always like to lay everything in eyesight. How to solve this?
Donate newspapers and especially magazines to art teacher at school up the road. People are buying these less often and newspaper is needed for paper mache, paper making, etc. Magazines for collage, journal, drawing, enlarging, etc. Yes, I am a retired MS art teacher, so I usually have a box of stuff for them monthly. In the summer months I may recycle or take stuff to elder care places that have art/craft activities. If they don’t have one, volunteer to lead one occasionally.
I've been decluttering my things. I don't currently have 10 articles of clothing to declutter. 🎉 Yay! Now, everything else...my husband isn't on board for his stuff. 😢 He's said, he likes his stuff and worked hard for it.
I hear these things coming from someone who has a organizing style as Cass From ClutterBug would call being either a Cricket or a Ladybug. You prefer hidden organization compared to visual. 😃👍🏼
Thank you thank you thank you! Going through coffee mugs today and clearing off my cabinet shelves to store my coffee pot! The only thing that will be left on the counter is my fire extinguisher. LOL
We do have a small kitchen with not much space to store. There is no space to store the coffee maker and toaster. Plus, the family is not happy to have them put away even if I somehow I make some room for them. Any suggestions?
Keep them out if it they are used daily and use the space for any other item that might be on the counter. I do it Like this as well due to family and it ist much calmer looking with two larger pieces out than many smaller things.
I have a tiny kitchen. No room to store items from the counter. I enjoy the decor I do have on the counter. We use the toaster every day and it is staying where it is. It is perfect where we have it. No room to store in cabinets because they are used since our kitchen is very small. Other suggestions I think are great. ❤
Newspapers are great to clean windows & mirrors. Also useful for making papier mâcher projects and decomposing seedling pots. We don't actually receive any newspapers at our home, so I miss out on this🥺 Also! As a recipient of well meaning but annoying & incessant newspaper/magazine article clippings - NOBODY wants them. Anybody who actually does want one WILL ASK.
I love my empty kitchen countertops. People come in my house, thinking I’m just moving in or out. I feel less stress without all the dust collecting visual clutter. I’ve trained my loving friends, please no ornamental gifts. In my living room I have 2 objects, 1 snake plant, and 1 small temperature gauge.
I never understood why anyone would throw their clothing on the floor (unless you are undressing to bathe but I personally place mine on a hook). I spend good money on quality clothing and it's also a safety hazard to have it on the ground. The only things that really should be on the floor are your feet and the furniture. Bottom line, take care of your things. As for junk mail I don't even bring it in the house it goes right into the recycling bin.
Hello I have been following you n do declutter. However I want to read yr book too. Can I just buy the latest book Things that matter or have to buy the earlier ones. Thank you. You motivate me. God bless you n yr family.
Be careful with purging junk mail, always open it first to make sure it is indeed junk mail. I have shredded an important document once, just be sure to glance it through first. 😢
I have no storage in my kitchen; I have a small home with an open concept-and it severely limits my storage. I cannot imagine having clear countertops.
Thank you for sharing . When you said about toys ..I had a flash back to some 23 years ago when my son was a toddler . I had a thought that if my son could get a toy from a toy box or it’s home..then he could put it back..he actually loved being praised for it , of course I’d supervise if he struggled I’d help but too many mums I knew were just automatically putting their toys away for them and it didn’t stop until much older 🙄 . Same with laundry..he had a open top kids cartoon hamper..loved putting clothes in. Even as a adult he’s excellent with laundry. My ex hubby..his dad was a nightmare for laundry..it would be on floor next to hamper or on top. ..hardly ever inside…drove me crazy 🤪🤣. I didn’t want my son to expect that from a future wife . Start as you mean go on.😉. 🇬🇧👍🏻💛🤍

Thinking of you as remember, celebrate, and grieve your precious son. ❤
I'm far from being a minimalist and don't have any desire to be one. Nevertheless, I'm practicing almost all of these routines daily. These are good suggestions for anyone wanting to live in a stress free home.
I'm amazed at how adding 5 minutes a day of picking up around the house to my daily habit tracker has led to a noticeably less-cluttered house.
My stepson’s bedroom is a disaster. He’s 20, and gets overwhelmed by all the clutter. I offered to help him, using your “remove what you want; get rid of what’s left” method of decluttering. I agree. We are getting there. 😮
Habits are so important for consistency and maintaining a minimal home. Can't wait to watch! 🤩
Yes, my family has been practicing the wash dishes right after dinner rule, this works so well after doing it regularly, it's like clockwork now.
I cleaned my coat closet this afternoon. I have two things to go to Goodwill and I threw away five things. The closet is much tidier now.
Always informative. Love the delivery: well modulated, quiet tones, and encouraging. Time to get back on track. 👍👍
Thank you Joshua. You videos are so good and minimal too. Straight to the point with no waffle. I am still going down the minimalist route. I absolutely love trash & recycle day!!! I just filled “both” this past weekend (pumped!) We’re now enjoying the benefits of LESS stuff!❤
I just discarded items from my closet that I have not been wearing for one year, such as old undies, old pants, old shorts, socks with missing pair, old garden gloves.
Thank you joshua for always inspiring us and motivating us to be more intentional with our life.

Love all your tips. You honestly have saved me from clutter and have introduced me to the most peaceful environment in my home! Thank you!
A thought about 7. Fill your containers for garbage day: I have developed the mindset that I have paid municipal taxes to be able to put two full black trash bags on the corner every week. Ill never be a minimalist, EVER!!! I function best in chaos! And my stuff brings me great joy!!! 🙂👍❤
Very helpful, thank you. May I add that I purchase inexpensive hangers, or re-use dry cleaner hangers, to hang every clothing item that I take to the thrift store. My donated items can then immediately be hung on the store racks and not pile up in a back room.
I love being a minimalist ! It’s brought me such a sense of mastery over my life. At least I can control my space and my possessions. Thank-you !
I had great pride in getting the stuffed coat closet to a manageable level when guests came and I could actually hang their coats in it.
I have to say I cracked up while listening to this! I was washing the dishes with one earbud in when my daughter walked in, I tuned Joshua out for a second to talk to her only to tune back in to him asking "Are you listening mom?" Excellent ideas! I’m happy to see that I have incorporated some of them into my life already. Now if I add in some more of them I will make progress.
We are still working at becoming minimalists. As I listened, I found myself frequently nodding my head in agreement. It must be working.
Can you learn things and 88? Yes you can. Thank you, Josh.
I started that few months ago, and I am so pleased. My life and mind is absolutely better.
Seriously love your channel. I subscribed within the first minute. Super easy to watch and to implement the ideas and tips that you offer. I’m so proud of myself!!! I do and have done all these tips mentioned!
Great advice.
I am decluttering.
Trying to make a box with important items as soon as I find them.
Three years! That's awesome. Thank you.
Really fantastic habits and suggestions!! I especially love the one about getting kids to clean up every night. I have four and we have greatly reduced their belongings but things still tend to get a little crazy. Starting this today!
This is probably the very best minimalism video there is. Thank you!
Great tips 👍. Thanks so much. Blessings for me and my home 🙏
I'm down to 8 coffee mugs. I will keep working on them😊 Thanks for your insight into a calming environment.
We follow the "rules" that apply. BTW, my husband calls it "the magic hamper"! 😂 Love your videos and being more minimal.
I keep notes on household strategies like this. Esp food. I try 5th, 6th and 7th ideas over the years, when the prev one breaks down.
Thanks
Any suggestions for those with small kitchens for appliances? We have a tiny tiny kitchen with enough closed storage for food, pans and cups. I've purged so that we have the bare minimum but there is still no room for KitchenAid mixer and coffee pot.
😊
You’re one of my favorite UA-camrs❤😊. I do one in one out rule.
I am watching how many times I don't remember. Very very good thank you.

Joshua boa noite.
Perfeito vídeo como SEMPRE e suas dicas são sempre úteis e muito práticas de realizá-las.
Gratidão pelo conteúdo.
Um abraço!
I have most of these mastered except the clean desk! Thanks Joshua 😊
The book CLUTTER’S LAST STAND helped me to minimalism many years ago….Joshua keeps reminding me why I choose it! 😉
As a child of the 1950’s I always had to put my toys away every night; it was the norm then in every home. When did parents become so lax that they no longer train their children to do this? Well said Joshua, for trying to bring back this habit and discipline.
Terrific easy to adapt tips. thank you Joshua!
Loved the humour in this one! Keep it up! Greetings from Greece!
Great video, as always!
Outstanding video. Very easy plan.
Excellent video. Everything you mentioned i will definitely start implementing. Super great ideas. Thanks!
Thank you! We don't have a coat closet. Have you seen some of the flats in London? Small. Can you do a video on small spaces? Thanks so much for the inspiring video.
Watch Do it on a Dime
Thanks Joshua.
I have a question though. I am now a minimalist but I am struggling as to how to declutter my digital space ?
Please include local resale/ thrift stores rather than “goodwill”… thank you, enjoy your presentations!
Thank you for the practical advice

Oops. Wanted to add to my previous post that after cleaning my closet I sat down and watched this video. Now I realize that there are four raincoats in my closet that I need to take to Goodwill. I wasn’t going to get ride of them because they are all great coats but really, how many do I need? Thanks for the video.

I hear you. I have a thing for coats. 🫤
As much as I unsubscribe from email, new ones I never signed up for start appearing. I feel like it’s never ending. Finally getting to the end of the physical things and tackling my paper clutter.
Thank you Joshua.
How come nobody has noticed the new format of the video? Love the gentle pokes 😊
Thanks for the pep talk!
Great advice ❤️
Great advice. Clean. Neat. Doable.
7:25 "Stacks of magazines & papers serve no purpose at all in life but to clutter a room once they've been read [and you'll never read them even if you've not read them yet!]"
I do have unread magazines from 5-7 years ago that occupy my space..
I love being a minimalist. There's nothing that I want bad enough to make me go back to being cluttered.
2:00 Please don't dump your things off to 'Goodwill Industries' please please take them to a local thrift shop that actually helps in your local community. Yes, I am a retired MS art teacher, so I usually have a box of stuff for them monthly. In the summer months I may recycle or take stuff to elder care places that have art/craft activities. If they don’t have one, volunteer to lead one occasionally.
All amazing tips, as always :) I absolutely LOVE your channel/content Joshua :)
Thank you, sooo inspiring. I hope i can do it!
Thank you thank you thank you! Going through coffee mugs today and clearing off my cabinet shelves to store my coffee pot! The only thing that will be left on the counter is my fire extinguisher. LOL
Another good message. Thanks.
Another great and helpful video. Thx Joshua.
It’s amazing what people can and can’t do sometimes all it takes is time ,,we are so in a hurry these day but why !,
We do have a small kitchen with not much space to store.
Thank you
Yes Sir!🙂
agree with most everything, except number 10.
1:47 "If you're typical" well I'm not typical, so I'll just have to do my best!
Very Good
Great, simple ideas! Thank you always!
❤❤❤loved this!
Our recycle bin is kept by the front door - hence the junk mail goes in it before I even step in the house 😊
People who throws clothing on the floor were not raised properly.
Joshua- I'll be happy to declutter those sea salt caramels on the counter for you 😆
Looking forward to seeing you in NE in a couple weeks
Yes, Gretna NE (just outside Omaha) on May 07 at Journey Church. I'm looking forward to it. Be sure to come say hello!
Awesome!
Joshua, Great video! 😊
I have no storage in my kitchen; I have a small home with an open concept-and it severely limits my storage. I cannot imagine having clear countertops.
Back when I received magazines I'd recycle them by passing on to a friend or public library.
