I love how as soon as Lomu gets the ball, the only objective for the Aussies is to stop him at all costs, they are not thinking about any other aspects of defence. what a legend
I landed in Australia for the first time in 2000, on July 15th from New York City to visit family. They greeted my (12 year old) and 10 year old brother with tickets to the Bledisloe Cup. We knew nothing about rugby. I'd love of course this to be the start of a lifelong love affair with the game. As ESPN Australia wrote on the 20th anniversary of this match "The clash would later come to be known as the "Great Test Ever Played" after the 79 earlier minutes had enthralled a crowd of 109,874, a world record for a rugby match, and ensured no one in attendance would forget the incredible spectacle anytime soon."..... except for two preteens from New York City... who were so jetlagged they slept through the whole game.
Loved this game. I went on the spur of the moment. Left Auckland Friday night, Landed went to the hotel checked in, Bumped into other kiwis there for the same game. We headed to the pubs, drank all night, barely slept, headed to the most amazing game ever, the crowd and the roars! Drank all night, hell of a hangover to fly home on Sunday, Still smiling. EPIC Game.
I remember watching this at the time. If I recall correctly, the only Wallaby who never missed a tackle on Lomu was Gregan. 2 of the best rugby matches I've ever watched.
any1 notice jonah doesnt get past gregan on a few occasions, that dude(gregan) always got under my skin as a ab fan. he was one of the best halfbacks ever.
Look at the level of these teams, unfortunately South Africa leaving Super Rugby has weakened the competition, now the Springboks and Pumas are shining through in 2024, hopefully the All Blacks, and the Wallabies can revive these kind of test matches real soon...P.S Great effort by the Wallabies last weekend, keep it up in Wellington 😃👍
Dream game, kudos to NZ to snatch the game at the end. That Australian team was incredible. I loved everything: backs, forwards, coach, jersey colour, game plan. Hope Australian rugby will come back to that level soon!
Jesus Christ, look at that All Blacks squad. Meeuws, Randall, Marshall, Mehrtens, Lomu, Umaga, Cullen. Those 7 blokes would be pretty much an automatic World XV squad selection. And the Wallabies managed to win it. I miss these days as a Wallabies supporter. NZ vs AUS games back in these days were always the greatest spectacles. I miss the days when Australia was good at Rugby.
Rugby back then without Poms, Irish in any good form was and is how rugby should be now really. Jonah, legend, jeessh this game was legendary, I remember it well :).
What a match it was...to kick off the new millenium...very few other games can match it...the 2011 RWC Semi between the same two countries comes close.
But 2011 was very one-sided. For great matches between both I remember Australia's wins in 2010 in Hong Kong and 2011 in tri Nations . And the all blacks win in the last minute in 2017 I believe
@@zephanish NZ was fantastic that game and I can't understand how they just won 20-6 and how they scored only 1 try. But again NZ was a little bit nervous in the knockout stages that world cup. Piri weepu botched several kicks that could have put 30+ past Australia .
This historic match made me become a Rugby Fan.
Greetings from Monterrey Mexico.

Hahahaha, mate. You and your brother missed one of the greatest games of Rugby ever played. Poor buggers
What a game that was. That was a absolute instant classic masterpiece

Yes he was a thorn in our side as was his league counterpart Alan Langer. Both were small but haunted NZ for years in union and league.
@@Rugby-union-and-league spot on
Best rugby match everrr❤
Still the best game ever witnessed
What an exciting game this was. Edge of the seat stuff. Still enjoying it in 2021.

New Zealand and South Africa are well on top, just need Australia to revive themselves and the Southern Hemisphere domination is back.
Waltzing Matilda could've been a great national anthem
I agree, the current national anthem is very boring
a song about a sheep-thief?
Obvious sheparding at 15:00 but iss allgood
the ball was kicked out when the clock was in the 82nd minute but the game didn't end?
The New Zealand Fergie time haha... That was game over lol.
Injury time. It doesn't happen often because they usually stopped the clock.
Wheres the live chat this is no fun

I remember that 2011 Semi, Cory Jane and Dagg were magnificent in the air, and the wallaby fowards got bullied like they usually do
But 2011 was very one-sided. For great matches between both I remember Australia's wins in 2010 in Hong Kong and 2011 in tri Nations . And the all blacks win in the last minute in 2017 I believe
@@qwertyyuyop9347 Yeah, I personally didnt find it very intense. The nz fowards were just so dominant that game
